This was my first rodeo, and I was thrilled, amazed, and moved by the show that Cowtown Coliseum put on. We were there on a Friday night, and there was so much to see: bull riding, barrel racing, roping, and bronco riding. The show opened with a thirteen-year-old girl who sang an awe-inspiring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and also sang Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (RIP, Toby Keith -- you are much loved and missed).
I was moved by the fact that the introduction to the rodeo included prayer for a safe and joyful event.
These horses are animals of valor and strength. They stole the show. Without them, there would be NO show. Their speed, their agility, their willingness to work so closely with their riders -- I was riveted to their beauty.
Patriotic, skilled, talented. These people, both men and women, are in a class of their own, with bravery and abilities that deserve the highest caliber of respect.
The rodeo clowns kept riders safe -- what a job! I was on the edge of my seat watching them.
The adorable 9-year-old boy whose job it was to get the crowd going did just that. What a great kid.
The Cowtown Coliseum embodies everything I love about Texas and country: strength, skill, American pride, faith, teamwork, bravery, and a can-do attitude. Hats off to the people who gave so much thrill to the crowd at this rodeo.
