This Coyo Taco location is in Barrio Alto/Principe Real. They also have another location near Cais do Sodre which is where we went. We started out with a few Coyo Margaritas which were excellent. I don't know if it was because I hadn't had a Margarita in such a long time, or if they were really just that good, but in any case, the Margaritas were fantastic €7.00 each. We also had some guacamole. (7€ for what amounted to about 3/4 of a cup and a small bag of chips. The guacamole was also excellent. Note that all taco orders come in pairs, and in total we ordered 5 pairs. Shrimp 12.50€, Al Pastor €7.50, Cochinita Pibil €7.50, Tempura Fish €16.00, Carne Asada €8.00. So let's break this down with one example. The Fish Tempura at €16.00. Current exchange rates price a pair of fish tacos here at Coyo Taco at $19.00. That's $9.50 per taco. Pretty much the most expensive taco's I've ever had. . None of the tacos we had were blow the top of your head off good, but there was nothing wrong with them, they were really nice, but not $9.50 per taco nice. There was a bit of a problem with the flavors. For example, I had the Al Pastor and the Cochinita Pibil tacos, and the flavor difference was almost indistinguishable. Cochinita Pibil originates in the Yucatan, and it is virtually impossible to re-create this dish at a restaurant in Lisbon, as I'm sure they're not burying a pot in the backyard overnight. The flavor was good, but the flavor of the Al Pastor was almost the same. Again almost indistinguishable. So the bottom line is not the food quality, the quality is there, but the problem is the price. Really, really expensive for what you get. The bill totaled €84.50 for 10 tacos, guacamole, two fizzy waters and 3 margaritas. Drum roll..... that's over $100.00 at current exchange rates. Comedian Ron White does a bit about tacos, and how he eats the baby duck pussy lip tacos that you get at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills on Sunday. Well, I can't imagine how much those fictional tacos would cost at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, but I suspect they'd be nearly as expensive as the fish tacos at Coyo Taco. Whatever the price bar rates at Coyo Taco, just raise it up two steps. Again, really nice, but not worth the price.
