We were excited to try Coyote's Mexican Grill after reading so many positive reviews. A heads-up for anyone visiting, the location is a little tucked away and parking is limited, so plan accordingly. The service was a high point – we were seated almost immediately. I ordered the fajitas and my wife got a burrito. The flavors in both dishes were good, but we felt the food wasn't particularly special or unique. We also found the margarita to be disappointing; it was weak and tasted more like a pre-made mix. While nothing was terrible, the overall experience didn't quite match our expectations. It's a decent spot, but we were hoping for a bit more.

We tried different dishes this time. The chicken chilaquiles and 4 enchiladas were delicious. So were the chips and salsa. Best of all there was a breeze out on the patio, and the peach frozen margarita was the best, creamy and tasty. Service team worked together and got it done.

Google
Very mediocre. Definitely not worth the price. Food not hot but put under a broiler. Player shouldn’t be burning hot but food barely hot. Food was brought out sloppy. Cheese was burned on tortilla chips but still served. We went because we always see it packed. They must have good drinks because the food…. No.

Google
The service was fine and the food was okay. Nothing special. Could certainly use more flavor. The worst issue that needs to be immediately cleaned is the dust balls around the booths and overhang. While trying to eat, it’s unappealing. We would have sat outside but wanted to avoid the heat and mosquitoes.

Our Favorite Local Spot – A True Gem! We absolutely love this place. It's hands-down our favorite Mexican restaurant in Decatur—and honestly, maybe all of Atlanta. The food is consistently tasty, the prices are super reasonable, and the frozen margaritas? Easily the best in town. (Seriously, don't skip the Frozen Texas Margarita.) We come here often and are always impressed by how fast the food comes out and how well-run everything is. This is very much a family-owned vibe that makes you feel like a regular even if it’s your first time. Also worth noting: the air conditioning is always blasting, which makes it the perfect reward after a hot summer walk. Whether you’re craving tacos, enchiladas, or just a strong margarita and chips, this spot delivers every single time. Highly recommended. Support this local gem—you won’t regret it!

I had been here countless times for about 10 years and from what I’ve experienced, this place is only good when the owner’s family is around. When the actual owner’s family isn’t there, the staff plays around too much. I took my parents here on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at around 1PM because they were visiting from California and had to fly back that evening, so this was supposed to be the last meal before being dropped off at the airport. We waited almost two hours and no food was delivered to the table. Once the time started getting closer to 3PM and still no food had arrived, I asked the waitress what was going on. She said she had two tables of 20 or something like that. Why would she take another table knowing she and the kitchen staff wouldn’t be able to handle it? Had she told us they were that busy we would’ve chose somewhere else to eat. Somewhere that can actually get some food out to the tables in a timely manner no matter how busy it gets. We paid for our drinks and walked out. After nearly 10 years, I probably won’t be returning.

Google
Food was ok. Not a lot of flavor or toppings on the steak tacos but the sauce on the side was good. Maybe I was supposed to request cheese and other extras. Or maybe that stuff isn’t considered authentic. Either way, i Really liked the margarita and the rice was ok. Service was ok, definitely a noticeable language barrier. Parking was awful this particular day. I circled around for about 20 mins before finding a spot. Even their overflow lot was slammed.

Google
If you’re looking for a very very solid Mexican-American meal, this place is the spot. It’s by no means as some would say “authentic Mexican” food BUT the food is solid, the service is quick and timely. The margaritas are very good and if you like going to restaurants that aren’t ridiculously loud, then this is the spot for you. The food is great, the drinks are phenomenal, the prices are very fair. This is on our restaurant repeat list.

Yelp
This place absolutely exceeded expectations. I went in with pretty low hopes--Yelp reviews usually steer me right, but they definitely missed the mark here in the best way. The atmosphere outside was perfect, especially with the warm weather. Inside felt a little average, so I'd say this is definitely more of a summer/outdoor spot. We started with chips, queso, and the salsa with peppers. The chips were just right--crunchy without being overly greasy. The queso was excellent, especially with the crispy top, and the salsa had a great balance of flavor and spice. My girlfriend ordered the chimichanga, and it was spot on. The shell was perfectly crisp and the meat inside was flavorful and tender. I got the off-menu fajitas with steak and shrimp--absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly, the shrimp was flavorful, and the grilled onions tied it all together. Even the rice on the side impressed me, which doesn't usually happen. We wrapped things up with churros for dessert. They were decent--not a standout, but still a nice finish. All of that for around $50? I was seriously impressed. Great meal, great service, and definitely a spot I'll be coming back to.

Yelp
Great menu Food was nice. Free chip and salsa that had a nice kick to it. The food was a 4 but I a in a wheel chair and for a smaller restaurant the bathrooms are huge clean. S they get a bonus point!

Yelp
Food is OK. Service is slowwwww! There is a language barrier, so be patient. Aesthetic could be better. Not in a hurry to return back. Drinks (some) are strongggg.

Yelp
Reasonable prices and friendly good service.............................! WHAT more can I say to post a review so others may read that it is worth checking out this place?
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service, and affordable prices. Plus free parking which isn't abundant in downtown Decatur. I had the chicken chimichanga and a frozen margarita and sat outside on an unseasonably warm Dec afternoon. The ambiance is understated and comfortable.

Yelp
This is our default for a quick, easy meal. I am gluten free, and I love the guacamole, beef tacos, shrimp nachos, and fajitas. It is a hole in the wall, but the food is good! The people that work there are really nice, and it is family owned. There's usually plenty of free parking.

Yelp
I ordered on DoorDash so I don't have a review as far as the service... It was my first time trying the tacos de birria.. They were really good and seasoned well!! They also came with chips and salsa.. I'd give the food 8/10

Yelp
This is based on UberEats orders-I really cannot speak to the service nor ambiance as I never been to this place. So this review is strictly on their food. The California Burrito (steak) is the worse thing to happen to me as it's the perfect version of a burrito to me and now I'm spoiled to liking it anywhere else. My husband and one of my sons goes crazy over the taquitos and orders 2 for themselves each. The thing is I thought it was a fluke or that I was hungry the first time I ordered with them and the second time I confirmed that not only was it not but I will be forced to always think of here when I want a burrito.

Yelp
Health score today was 88 B. Simply put- wish it were higher. Enjoyed our lunch though. Really nice staff too.

Yelp
Simple goodness! I used to come here every now and then when I lived in Decatur. It has been a few years, so when I saw the name pop up on UberEats as I was looking for some Mexican food, I decided to check out the options. Back when I used to come here, the ambiance was super casual with hole in the wall feels, and the service was good albeit a bit challenging due to a slight language barrier. I can't speak on how it is today, but I'm sure it's still good! Everything was packed up cleanly, the portions are nice, prices are decent, and everything tasted great. For my appetizer, I got an order of guacamole tesano, which is chopped avocado with pico de gallo. It tasted fresh and I loved the chunky texture on top of the crunchy tortilla chips. For my entree, I chose the burrito de frijoles (refried beans and queso dip inside). It came with sour cream, lettuce, and tomato on the side. I was surprised to see salsa on top of the burrito. Normally, I'd love this but I was slightly disappointed at first because I had it in my mind that I was expecting a dry burrito I could hold in my hands that was filled with creamy queso dip and warm beans. Regardless, it was flavorful and delicious and after taking a bite I wasn't disappointed anymore but very pleased. My meal also came with chips and salsa! The salsa had a really nice kick of spice to it. I'll definitely be ordering more from here in the future.

Yelp
Delicious Mexican food. I had chicken quesadillas. Can't wait to order them again. Great tasting quacamole. Chips and toppings were good.

Yelp
Great family business!!!! Food is great & fresh all the time I order my food & hot !!! Thank you el coyote ! Keep up the great work !!!! I'll be back for my food & margaritas!!!!!

Yelp
The food was edible. The service was ridiculously abysmal. Table of 6 for lunch. Place only had a few others but we'd had to wait a while to order. Had to ask for everything. Definitely have NO INTEREST in ever going back.

Matt W.

Yelp
Came here for the first time and it was amazing! Food was great and parking way easier than the square. Also very large menu and great deals. Would recommend!
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Low key spot in Decatur with great chips and salsa. In general, I think their food and drinks are just ok. I've had much better margaritas. The house seemed watered down. I did really enjoy the grouper enchiladas. They were delicious!!
google avatar

Yelp
I went to this place on Saturday. There is nothing spectacular about this place. The food is okay. I will say for the prices, you get a nice-sized portion of food. The drinks were weak. Would have been better if I ordered just juice. Salsa was not very good, might've been missing something. The only good thing about my experience was our server. He was great!

Lotinza C.

Yelp
This is great and the food is consistently delicious!!! Actually going here tonight for dinner !!!

Yelp
Seeing these reviews makes me question people sometimes because I literally always have the best time at coyotes :) thanks guys for the best service.

Yelp
Everything was going well. Our server was a nice, young man, until he disappeared after taking our order for almost an hour. It seemed like he closed out all of his tabs and did not communicate to other staff concerning us. We come out of our way to come to this Mexican restaurant for the vibes and the food. After 30 minutes, we decided to ask another server a question about our food and he said "one second" and did not look at us. After that, we were done. We politely go up to the front to pay for our drinks and dip, some woman with the word "fuck" written on her sweatshirt said, rudely, "so you don't want your food?" It seemed like the whole staff knew about the extra long wait for our food, but us. Communication is not a strong suit of this business. We will not be back, which is upsetting.

Yelp
Oh we like!!! It's black Friday and my son and I decided not to shop but to go get food( i didn't cook for Thanksgiving-no leftovers). We were actually headed to Fellini's across the street but decided to check out this place and I am so happy that we did. The food was great the drinks were delicious and the service was really good. I was a little surprised that no one was really there, one would think that everything would be crowded because of Black Friday, but no one was there.. we were able to get in and out without any fuss! I could see parking being a problem if there was a crowd. I'm excited about this place, we love Mexican food and its not to far from home and the lunch menu is very reasonable! We will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
I had the birria tacos which were amazing and very well proportioned for the price. The consume that comes with it is also very tasty. After having only 2 tacos I was stuffed but it was delicious. Definitely recommend coming here. Service was good too they were very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of.
google avatar

Victoria E.

Yelp
Unfortunately, this place is just is just meh. The beef tacos weren't good, the blackberry margarita is just OK. The best thing here is the chips and the steak in the fajitas. With that being said I won't be back.
google avatar

Joshua V.

Yelp
The Fajitas were cooked perfectly, Mezcal was really good, service was great! Get Fajitas Texas and some Mezcal, u won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Delicious food! Drinks had me feeling lovely. The service was awesome too. I love a low key neighborhood find. I tried enchiladas and beef tacos. 8.5/10

Yelp
A good friend of mine who lives in the neighborhood took me here once and we have been coming here ever since. I do agree with other reviewers that customer service could be greatly approved as there are moments where it does take a while for a server to come to the table, but to be completely honest it has been like this in most restaurants for the past 1.5 years due to employee shortage, so I'll give them that. We just came here recently for my birthday dinner with my family and friend. Overall the food here is consistent. My kids of course like the Queso Dip (go figure) and their corn chips always do appear to be fresh. Their guacamole dip is good here as well. Usually, I will get either their grilled sliced mesquite sirloin steak (Carne Asada) or the Fajitas al Carbon. Now, my previous three visits overall went great. However, I will say my birthday visit could have been better. Our server was an older gentleman who barely spoke any English. I know some Spanish and did my best, clearly asked him for grilled chicken (Pollo a la parrilla) for my kids, but for some reason, he brought them Chimichanga's goosing in cheese, which they would absolutely not eat, and he became upset when I said that was not what I ordered. Coming out here is a good 30-minute drive too, so hopefully, our next visit is better. If only the Fellini's on Commerce drive had a La Fonda. [Review #641]  (13th Review of 2021)

Yelp
First off can I say please don't go here. The cheese dip was microwaved and hardened within minutes, the nachos were also microwaved and inedible. The chips were soggy. I ordered a soda in the middle of the meal, and it never came. At the end of the meal we had to track down the server to split our checks, and then we had to find him again to pay because he rarely checked on us. Please go to La Parrila instead, same price, better food, better service.

Yelp
Very good. Family owned, always busy. Be patient if they're busy because they're kind and the food is delicious. Drinks are ok. The staff are sweet. Thank you.

Yelp
Carpe Diem was the restaurant here prior, sister to Apres Diem. Carpe Diem means seize the day, which Coyote does not do. It was a dark and rainy night. We went in to escape the weather. Should have stayed out in the rain. Texas Fajita was bland. No seasoning on the chicken or shrimp or steak. The enchilada with tomatillo sauce was adequate. The salsa came out of like Pace or something, definitely not fresh or made in house. I did like the Mexican Mule with mescal, ginger beer and lime. Service was, well, there. This place looked really nice back in the day. It's like a bad tenant who doesn't take of the rental. Patio would be cool in the summer. I remember when Coyote was in Avondale and didn't care for it then. Not much now.
google avatar

Toni M.

Yelp
Food is awesome, nice to sit outside and enjoy your dinner. Ordered Texas Margaritas for 2 people, really watered down so drink somewhere else. Overall I have been coming here since they were downtown Avondale and it's my go to place for Mexican. Best hidden secret.

Yelp
As most have mentioned this is a great family restaurant. The food was really delicious and very authentic. Even the charro beans were the best I've ever had! The salsa was really good, and so was the rice. The portions were also good When you walk in you feel welcomed. Mario was wonderful and the food was brought out quick and hot. This was a day that hardly anyone was in the restaurant, so no complaints here about service as many on here have mentioned. I ordered a large margarita. It was good, but I've had better. The Friday night entertainment could have also been better. There was a one-man show and the guy looked like he was about 80 years old, and and I'm not sure what kind of depressing music he was trying to play. Otherwise, this is a great establishment. I will be back to try other dishes.

Yelp
Great food and drinks. Large portions. Deck is great to sit outside when ifs warm. Our go to Mexican.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were looking for a late night spot to have dinner since I get off work at 8:30pm. Thankfully, Coyote's was open! It was a very slow night when we visited, so the service was speedy and the server was very nice. The restaurant has a cozy feel and is located beneath an apartment complex (lucky them!). I was impressed with the quality of the food. I am a huge enchiladas fan, so I had to try their suiza enchiladas. The grilled chicken was cooked to perfection and the suiza sauce tasted delicious. I'll keep this restaurant in mind whenever I'm craving Mexican food after work!

Toni T.

Yelp
Amazing service very nice vibe and good food. I don't even live here but I want to come back just for this restaurant. Only this restaurant and no other reason

Yelp
My boyfriend and I used to enjoy this place when we wanted to just have some chips and margs or dinner but the service last time was extremely lacking and extremely slow and decided to leave this review as a warning to others. This place seemed off when we walked in - no lights seemed to be on, yet I realized there was power in the restaurant because the fridge for jarritos was on with a light. Tables were left dirty and not wiped down either. We were there for almost 2 hrs just trying to have lunch because there was maybe only 2 servers (maybe because the kids/middle schooler or high schooler that works there was in school during the lunch hours). We even tried to cancel our order but by the time I was trying to flag down someone, they brought our entrees. Our usual choriqueso app seemed lackluster and looked like it had been zapped in the microwave before coming to us as the cheese had that warm skin film on the top. The temp was not uniform throughout either. No one bothered to refill my water either. They seem to have nice lunch specials but to be honest the chicken in the lunch fajitas seemed premade and not grilled in house. The carne asada was nothing to write home about either - did not even ask what temperature I wanted for my steak to be cooked. To be honest none of the food looked too fresh and they gave small portions of rice/beans and guacamole on our lunch plates. The rice and beans were room temp which makes me think our plates were waiting a while to be taken to our table... There are far better Mexican places in the area and if you're really craving better queso and margs hit up raging burrito (even if it's more gringo style). I would definitely not recommend this place for lunch (or any time) and the fact that we didn't get food poisoning from this poor lunch experience seems short of a miracle.

Yelp
Tried Coyote's for the first time tonight. The two male servers were very grumpy and rude. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas and they looked and tasted odd and were very weak. The food was just OK. Sadly, we will not be going back. It's a shame b/c Decatur could really use a good Mexican restaurant. :(
google avatar

Yelp
After receiving greasy slop yesterday from Monterrey Mexican Restaurant (Lavista Road) yesterday, I decided to visit Coyote's Mexican Grill today. Ordered my usual, taquitos and choriqueso. Both were delicious. I always get the beef taquitos. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Renee J.

Yelp
This is my favorite neighborhood authentic Mexican spot. The service is great, I've haven't had anything off the menu I don't like. They even have a patio for my dog!
google avatar

Gia V.

Yelp
12 year old kids running the joint. Food was so hot like it just came out of the microwave. Chips were so broken and tiny. No prices on the drink menu which I thought was so strange. I was literally there for three hours, and I saw the waiter twice.
google avatar

Kayla K.

Yelp
This place is trash. The food is trash. The ambiance is trash. The drinks are trash. The service...trash. Find somewhere else if you want Mexican food.

Jill C.

Yelp
Came here 3 yrs ago,Sat outside and saw rats. Thought we'd see if things had changed. Very run down , torn dirty seats, dirty tables, menus & floors. Refrigerated products sitting out. The food was a 2. Definitely can see the owners don't care.
google avatar

Yelp
We are visiting ATL from out of town and wanted to check out Decatur & came across this gorgeous spot for lunch. The outside of the restaurant is so welcoming. It was down pouring when we parked and the young lady who was our server met us at the door and offered to take my umbrella. She was so sweet & the food was delicious. I also got a strawberry frozen margarita. Yum!

Noah G.

Yelp
ambience, great. service, phenomenal. food, yum yum yum. veggie quesadilla? sloppy, messy, had to eat with a fork and knife. so good though
google avatar

Crystal B.

Yelp
Pretty good. This spot is off in the cut and near Downtown Decatur. They were very slow but I'm sure it's because of location. The patio area is nice to sit outside because it's cold as hell on the inside. I love a low key spot where the food is good. My server is ok. I'm not impressed. The prices are good. Lol. I'll come back.
google avatar

Ayala B.

Yelp
Ok...there is a serious lack of good Mexican food in Decatur and this happens to be one of the slim picking options. The food is actually decent (it's definitely more Tex mex than authentic Mexican food), but nonetheless, it's pretty good. That's what gives this place 2 stars... THE SERVICE: could possibly be the worst restaurant service I have EVER received in my life. I say that with a heavy heart. I wanted to make sure that I came here a few times before making a sweeping judgement about their terrible service and that it wasn't a one time fluke. At this point, I have been here SEVERAL times and each time the service is inexcusable. I have no idea who the service manager is, but they need to do something ASAP about this.
google avatar

Ming H.

Yelp
Good, authentic Mexican food, but slow service. The food is really good and seems authentic compared to your typical Mexican restaurants. Margaritas are great too. I love they have a large outdoor patio as the inside can be crowded and tight at times. There is a bar area on the inside. The reason for 3 stars? Service is always slow. You can tell all the servers are hard working and try their best, but the 3 or 4 times we have been here, they have always been short staffed. Parking is also very limited, even street parking. But the food and drinks are good enough to keep us coming back.

Yolanda R.

Yelp
I love this place it's my birthday weekend and Diego was the best waiter he was prompt and quick food was fast and delicious very friendly and always smile I will b back !! Carne Asada was awesome

Dream M.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite quiet little dip off spots but the take out is even better. You get a bang for your buck with food and drinks! The service is always speedy and take out orders are ready when they say. Don't forget to ask about take home beverages!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good but the atmosphere was bad The server was very confused, very inexperience, he just didn't belong in a restaurant - I almost ate food I didn't want because he was so confused I ended up having the cheese enchiladas and dos Equis - the food was good, not much flair, just quality Mexican food The restaurant had booths and tables in the middle with buckets to catch the leading water There were a lot of regulars here, so this place must be used to its repeat customers Stop here if you need a Mexican food fix, keep going if you are looking to try a hot New Mexican spot ... The bad service isn't worth the trip
