Went for a sunset dinner. The crab samosas are PHENOMENAL. We shared a seafood platter. The seafood was fresh, tasty and perfectly seasoned! The octopus and prawns were the highlight of the platter! Definitely the best seafood I’ve had. Service was also good and the ambiance is relaxed with an amazing view of the sunset on the creek!

Crab Shack is a gem — the sunset views are absolutely breathtaking, and the whole place has a quirky, charming vibe. I had the chili crab and it was delicious — full of flavor and perfectly cooked. It’s a fun, relaxed spot that’s also great for solo travelers. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Watamu. P.s. you need to reserve for the seats by the edge of the deck.

Beautiful setting with entrance through mangrove trees. Lovely for sunset. Food is good enough but not worth expensive cost. Would recommend going here for a drink at sunset and getting food somewhere else.

My friend's husband, who grew up in the Watamu region, recommended the place since we were visiting for their wedding. As thanks he did not receive good words, far from it he was told that out of respect he had to eat after us. In fact he was served only when we had finished and the food was not well cooked. It just doesn't seem fair to me to treat people differently just because of their different ethnicity and to measure wait times by the color of their skin.... I don't understand why local staff treat the same locals so badly. We are a family and we all want to eat together. I hope such behavior will never happen again, it is unacceptable and I will never go there again nor would I recommend it to others. Unless you are a blind tourist and don't see the problems beyond your plate (in fact the lighting at the table was really poor, you almost couldn't see what was on your plate...but maybe it helps, after the sunset in the small candlelight maybe our skin won't look so different anymore). The rather dry fish was not worth it. What a pity.

Nothing can beat walking to your candlelit restaurant across the boardwalks through the mangroves to watch the sunset over the lake whilst eating fresh prawns, crab, and lobster. I didn't get any photos of the food, mainly as it was too good not to eat immediately! In many ways, I want this to stay a hidden gem as it's an amazing find, but they deserve every success as the restaurant is a local community project and does so much good for the local area and habitat. Five stars, amazing!

My family and I went there for my birthday and we had a really bad experience; My sister’s husband, a local, got his food way later than us, and we found out it was because the staff thought we would have appreciated eating before him, and we he finally got his food it was severely undercooked. Such behavior is beyond unacceptable and it’s stunning to me that the staff think we might appreciate this kind of racist thinking. On top of that, the place was poorly illuminated and most of us got our food already coldish. My brother and a friend took the mix grill and the crab was barely a grab, very little portions. I’m unable to recommend this place to anyone, there’s many others nearby that are much better.

Let’s start with the not so great, service was a bit slow for the restaurant not being even half full. We went for lunch on the way to the beach. It was quite a nice walk through the mangroves on a wooden bridge through the water. After about a two minute walk the restaurant greets you and the bay right beyond it. The chicken was excellent. Also, the fish was tasty. There was really good flavors. This is what is meant by “off the beaten path”. Such a great atmosphere, a unique setting.
