Crab Shack Dabaso, Mida Creek

Nothing can beat walking to your candlelit restaurant across the boardwalks through the mangroves to watch the sunset over the lake whilst eating fresh prawns, crab, and lobster. I didn't get any photos of the food, mainly as it was too good not to eat immediately! In many ways, I want this to stay a hidden gem as it's an amazing find, but they deserve every success as the restaurant is a local community project and does so much good for the local area and habitat. Five stars, amazing!

...Sunsets at The Crab Shack Dabaso Watamu ... The Mda Creek based restaurant had views to die for! Sunset views and hues that magically combined! After the mangrove forest canoe ride, we went up to the restaurant for a sundowner. Access to the restaurant is via a 200 metre boardwalk, which gives guests a unique opportunity to absorb the beauty and magical atmosphere of the mangrove forest and Creek channels. The restaurant looks out to stunning views of Kirepwe Island and also provides a good spot for bird watching. The entry fee is redeemable with Shack's signature crab samosas. I had vegetable samosa instead. They also have soft drinks, beers, wines and cocktails. Guests can also pay a small fee for a guided tour of the boardwalk without having a meal.

Amazing food, found the sun setting, amazing view, good service, they call a tuktuk if you do not have a personal vehicle. Would definitely come back. Hidden gem in Watamu.

Let’s start with the not so great, service was a bit slow for the restaurant not being even half full. We went for lunch on the way to the beach. It was quite a nice walk through the mangroves on a wooden bridge through the water. After about a two minute walk the restaurant greets you and the bay right beyond it. The chicken was excellent. Also, the fish was tasty. There was really good flavors. This is what is meant by “off the beaten path”. Such a great atmosphere, a unique setting.

Fantastic food and fantastic staff!! One of the best grilled seafood I’ve eaten in my life!!! Highly recommend the seafood platter and the crab samosas. We had a beautiful view too :) just wish there was a way to install a fan as it was quite hot when we went.

Special experience sitting inside the mangrove and fantastic crab meat. Ran by the local community, support them and enjoy. Try also the creek canoe tour...relaxing beautiful and really good value for money!

Nice restaurant with a great view on the sunset. You may want to book in advance to get a good spot! The seafood spaghetti was absolutely delicious, but the ceviche would probably make anyone from south America very mad.
