⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cradle Mountain is absolutely stunning! The views around Dove Lake are breathtaking, and the walks are well marked and suitable for all fitness levels. Peaceful, wild, and unforgettable. We even spotted wombats! A must-see when visiting Tasmania.

Even if the weather isn’t perfect, Cradle Mountain in Tasmania is still worth visiting—wombats are the highlight! Though I’m sure it’d look even more stunning under a blue sky.

It’s an unmissable destination for nature lovers. The dramatic scenery of rugged mountains mirrored in the still waters of Dove Lake is absolutely breathtaking, especially on a clear day. The park is home to many rare and precious species of flora and fauna, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. If you have the time and stamina, a 2-4 day hiking trip through the area offers an unforgettable immersive experience. The journey from Launceston can be quite challenging, particularly in rainy or snowy weather, so joining a guided tour is highly recommended for safety. Even on cloudy or misty days, Cradle Mountain has a completely different charm — the moody atmosphere creates a sense of mystery and wonder, almost like you’ve reached the edge of the world. If you come here, you’ll truly feel the magic and beauty of nature — it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression on every visitor.

It's not over-hyped. But if you don't pick a good day, you won't see the peaks. Be prepared for lots of steps, strong 🥶 winds, good footwear if you circle the lake

Absolutely love this place, just so serene and a landscape unlike no other. Gorgeous scenes throughout our day hike which I strongly recommend doing. Every second was postcard worthy

The long drive from Hobart to Cradle Mountain is well worth it. You can spot much of Tasmania’s wildlife here, though I didn’t see any wombats on my hike. It was a clear day, but icy roads meant no park shuttles were running, despite seeing some vehicles on the main road to Ronny Creek (wonder how they managed to drive in!). This left me short on time, so I couldn’t hike to Marion’s Lookout - what a shame.

My favourite trail ( if you have time ) would be going left at dove lake, Hansens peak, continuing along the ridgeline towards cradle, passed Kitchen Hut, Down to Marion’s Lookout, Past Crater Lake and down to Ronnie Creek. Roughly 15kms, very easy for anyone to do this walk just takes some time. Marion’s and Hansens Peak, there is a steep park but there is chains provided to help pull yourself up if needed.

Around 2 hours from Launceston. A must visit when you’re in Tasmania. A huge and beautiful national park. Well managed. There are many options to walk here, start from beginner level just 10-15 mins to multi day hiking.
