Came here a few times while I was staying at the hotel. Each time the service was underwhelming. I had drinks spilt in my food with no apology just an “oops”. Food was flavourful but small portioned and very expensive for the serving size you are provided. A few times i would order something but never get it, which was disappointing. Got to experience a lot of different items on the menu. They do the simple things perfectly but I wouldn’t say anything had a “wow” factor. It would be a good place to go for a quiet date dinner or if you’re starving in your hotel. The atmosphere was comfortable and the various seating options were appreciated.

A great hotel bar! Really good cocktails (especially smoked cocktails). Food at happy hour is pretty good. The staff are great! This is my go-to hotel when in San Mateo for work and Craft/Code has never disappointed for an evening drink.

I was just looking at some old photos and saw this image from a few months ago and realized that I had not left a review. Several co-workers and I were working in the area for about a week. As is often the case, sometimes it's just easier to eat at the bar than go out. Fortunately, this is one of the items you'll find on the menu: Seared Ahi Salad. As you can see by the picture, the fish was perfectly done with a flavorful sesame vinaigrette dressing along with a handful of cherry tomatoes and some cucumber slices. A perfect light meal to end your day. So good, some of us had it more than once!

This is a nice space where I feel like I can hang out with my friends and actually hear them. The food is good but the menu is quite small. And the drink menu was somewhat limited. Parking is validated so that's nice.

Amazing atmosphere. Wonderful staff in a chic hotel. A place to have your anniversary, date, or any classy affair. Always giving back to the community, hiring local amazing people.

Just came to grab a drink at the bar. Great vibe and friendly bartender. Highly suggest the “None of Your Beeswax” cocktail (pictured).

So surprised by the great reviews here. The menu looks appetizing, service was great, and the atmosphere is nice. Something about the kitchen must have been off tonight, though. Both the falafel and the tuna tartar that I ordered were just... bad. Really really undersalted, tuna somehow had strong bitter notes, didn't taste like soy or sesame or ginger. Falafel was heavy on mint, light on everything else. It was so weirdly bad it made me wonder if their normal chef was out. One star for the menu, one start for the service, one star for the atmosphere. Sadly, no stars for the kitchen, at least tonight.

Went for breakfast. Buffet was available for $25 (includes coffee) but we chose the a la cart menu which averaged about $22 for food and coffee. Food was good but not good enough for a repeat. Service was excellent! Restaurant and hotel were beautiful. Based on service and atmosphere I would go back to try the buffet or lunch/dinner. Easy parking and they do validate (Don't leave your ticket in the car!) Overall a very nice experience but again ironically the food was the low point.

This has been a great working/ meeting place for us. Right at the lobby of this Marriott. Ton of space but very cozy setting. If you meet someone from business/ work and needs to lay out your computers to get some work done over some delight bites this will be the place for that. Food is actually very good. And very beautifully presented.

We got to the bar kinda late and we were craving French fries. Unfortunately the kitchen had just closed. Chef Gavin, overheard our French fry request so he graciously opened the kitchen and fired up some fries for us. Of course that special treatment made them taste all the better! Once Chef Gavin realized it was my birthday, he showered us with more love! Thanks Chef Gavin, you are the best.

For what it is this ( a hotel bar with food) this is all that you could want. A limited menu certainly, but everything that we tried was delicious and well executed. Ava took very good care of our group of three, brewing a pitcher of iced for us, making a great dessert suggestion ) order the peanut butter, chocolate thing- yumm! My friend's son loved the fries and my burger and Greyhound were delicious. It was the perfect place to catch up with my old friend and her son. There are several seating options and as the Tuesday evening wore on, the bar became lively and louder. We were in our cozy little enclave off to the side of the bar. I took a star off because when I visited years ago, there was an amazing cocktail menu and more inventive food items. They have streamlined and responded to the pandemic smaller staff with fewer offerings and lower( I think) prices. According to Ava the amazing cocktail menu will return. Regardless, business is robust. All in all, a great place for a quick bite, whether or not you are staying at the Marriott.

I can't say enough good things about the food, drinks and phenomenal customer service we received from our bartender Louie!

CRAFT/Code kitchen & cocktails offered a place to convene to have nibs and sips. We stayed at the Marriotts San Mateo, were needing a place to meet and the hotel was ready. Understandably, we did this the day the bistro was really short-handed: 1 waitress while we were there (6pm). Food: their menu, while short, had offerings to select from. We had a couple of orders each of Hummus with pita wedges and potato chips with yummy dip. The bar order was faster us stepping up to order them ourselves. Food: slower service was much slower. We cannot complain about the quality of the food. OMG! Those potato chips were exactly the uniqueness we needed. Simple bay spice dusted. Not oily. Crispy! Hummus as delicate and tasty. The pita wedges were ... were... pillowy. Pleasantly different. Service: they did their possible best.

I had a complimentary breakfast meal at the San Mateo Marriott San Francisco airport hotel, otherwise I probably wouldn't have thought to eat here. The restaurant is open and at the back section of the main floor. You just walk in and choose a seat and get the food you want. There's several things to choose from including customizing your own omelette. This was tasty and I love doing this because I always ask for extra of certain items. They had a nice variety of food and beverages to choose from. The staff came by to ask for my payment (which was in the form of a voucher) and then at the end she came back to give me the check/receipt. My other experience here was during the same trip but during one of the evenings at the bar with two female friends. We were catching up. The bartender was accommodating because my friend wanted items that weren't on the menu, but made good suggestions. He didn't even mind that I wasn't drinking and only asked for water, just so I could hang out with my friends.

2.5 stars, but since I can't give an official half star, I am boosting my rating to 3 stars for the cleanliness and great service. This is another restaurant that lured us to their place from photos posted here on yelp. I actually did not realize that the venue is located at the San Mateo Marriott...which is where my bridal party and I stayed on the eve of my wedding several years ago. The hotel has evidently been remodeled since I got married and I believe that CRAFT/CODE is one of its new installations. If not, they have successfully maintained its cleanliness and new, modern look throughout the years. Presentation of the dishes is just as impressive as the well kept decor. It's all aesthetics, though - the food looks better than it tastes, unfortunately (Well, most of the food *looks* impressive; the SUNFED FARMS GRASS FED BURGER did not look appetizing to me, but my son approved of it). In fact, we sent a side order of the TRUFFLE POTATO FRIES back to the kitchen TWICE due to lack of flavour. Additionally, my younger son was extremely disappointed by the GRILLED CHICKEN & POBLANO QUESADILLA as it was overwhelmingly stuffed with peppers. Mom ordered the SUSTAINABLE SALMON FILET and I had the STOUT BRAISED SHORT RIB, both of which were just OK, but the latter also suffered from a flavour deficit. Prices are inflated for the caliber of the food. They are probably charging high prices to pay for the remodel - the hotel looks completely different now. Service was definitely accommodating and very friendly. Our waitress always wore a smile on her face and willingly offered to have the kitchen fix any food items that we did not feel were up to par. Mom and I decided that we will not return. My younger son's experience was so unenjoyable that he has stated that he no longer wants to dine at hotel restaurants anymore. Ouch.

Delicious food and a friendly people. We took an Uber from about 15 miles away to come eat at this place. We get here in the kitchen is closed. The kitchen actually closes at 9:30 even though yelp says it's open until one. So be aware if you want to eat to get here earlier than 930. However, we arrived close to 10 o'clock and we were still served after them finding out that we Uber here. Julio and the staff were more than happy to get us fed and not have to catch another ride somewhere else. Our server/bartender Zaareb was top notch with kindness and great service. Thanks again to everyone here.

New favorite brunch spot! Got there early as we all know brunch places fill up quick. To my surprise, it was empty! But we loved having the place to ourselves. Nice decors and amazing bottomless mimosas! Service was great. We ordered the loco moco which was surprisingly good. Would have been amazing if eggs and meat wasn't slightly over cooked. But flavor was there.

It's a hotel bar. Granted, there is space to spread out, plenty of seating spaces... but it's still a hotel bar.

My first time here and I must say that the experience is wonderful, I'm at the bar watching the game and the service is terrific. Ordered a beer and had a salad for a light lunch, just relaxing and enjoying a break from the normal hustle and bustle of the weekend.

I live locally in this area and saw the Marriot had renovated their bar and restaurant. I've been here a couple times since the renovation and it's been a great new addition to the neighborhood to grab drinks or food- especially because they're open late! But restaurant does close earlier around 10pm I believe. It's also nice that parking is a breeze. The lounge is really clean, comfortable and stylish. Bar is decked out and I love how you can have access to the full restaurant menu in the cocktail lounge where I can still watch the NBA game. My server, Jomar, was very friendly and attentive. He was knowledgeable on the wine and even let me have a couple of samples before choosing my glass. And as a vegetarian he guided me to pick my entree. Onwards to the food and drinks! Food is definitely pricy compared to average dining. I mean it's a nice place. It's no Denny's. I ordered the house made corn nuts and glass of red. Nice tasty start. Then moved to the Cauliflower steak with lentil quinoa pilaf. Its definitely tasty and the coconut curry sauce is really good. I asked for extra sauce and the server kindly grabbed me more. Since the dish consist of all vegetables I definitely had room to get the dessert. The chocolate lava cake with homemade vanilla gelato. It was good but I wish there was a bigger scoop of gelato! Also no lava was in the middle so it came off as more of a soufflé. Would've liked the lava but it tasted great nonetheless! Definitely will be coming back. OH and you can get your parking validated when you dine in so parking is practically free after that.

Located in the lobby of the Courtyard, this is not a bad place to eat at all. The burger is ok, mine was a little on the dry side but still pretty good and the sides were fresh and tasty with a very fresh bun. It is not cheap though.

First time checking this place out and so glad that I did. Marriott San Mateo has been around for a really long time and it's gone through some recent remodel. It looks fantastic and their restaurant & bar look great. Decided to check out the restaurant since their menu looked promising. Made it at the end of happy hour but was able to try their quesadilla appetizer which was light but filling. For the main dish I tried the seafood linguini and it was good, but not amazing. I think the shrimp was a bit over cooked and the pasta was undercooked. Truffles fries were a hit. I'd definitely come back here just try something

Great atmosphere, Gary at the bar is awesome, good food and fun drinks. It is pricey because it's a hotel restaurant bar but still a great place to hang out and eat/drink. Amazing that this is actually part of the Marriot Hotel - the front desk validates parking.

Unsuspecting great ambiance Worth checking out if you're local, want a sip of something yummy to you and just don't like to be bothered:) Good place to meet friends, solid selection, great service!!

Elegant place in the Marriott Hotel, with an impressive variety of wines, cocktails, and beers. The food menu for Happy Hour was good too and better than the average fried foods. You can hear each other talk here too. Good friendly service. On the pricey side but then again this is inside a hotel so. It surprising. At least the food and drink are good. I happened to get free parking because the gate area was up and the parking machine wasn't operating. But otherwise does that mean I would have to pay for parking to come here to eat and drink? Tasty foods we had: ahi tuna tartare, quesadillas, sweet potato fries, fried cauliflower, and guacamole which the chef made especially for us as it's not on the menu. However, avocados are expensive and he used 5 of them to make the guacamole. The server did let us know in advance that The guacamole would cost $20. Expensive but at least it was fresh and good.

Drinks were not made well however the bartender did let me change my aweful bloody mary to another drink. He did me a great favor and made the other drink very well. However he completely ruin my day by not letting me know they had a restaurant. He just simply reply the bar kitchen is closed when I was there. Ended up not eating for 2 days almost just because of my flights and business meetings. Bummer.

The service at this restaurant was so very poor. Only myself and another customer. Three waiters, no smile, no greeting, food was served cool, No follow up by the waiter to see how things were going, Didn't even come by to refill my glass of water. Staff needs to be retrained. The cost of the meal was $30.00 for their braised beef. You would be totally surprised at the portion. The Swiss Onion soup was very salty Would never come back to this restaurant. Poor reflection on the Marriott Bonvoy experience. I mentioned the service to two waiters. I thought maybe they would mention it to their manager who would come by to apologize. Naddah They had a chance for redemption and blew it.

Competently executed, classic American menu with great ambiance. For me, that means: chic mid-century modern decor, great service, soft surfaces so not super loud, and overall comfortable. Went with wife and had NY steak and the bucatini; no complaints. If you previewed the menu and gave a middling review because you expected to have your mind blown "at these prices" ... you might need to peer inwards. The drinks are the real star; well made with quality ingredients, and where they've chosen to express some inventiveness. Really hope they gain popularity as a San Mateo spot. For us it's a good, local, semi-fancy, quarterly night out.

I had cocktails there with a friend last week, and they were probably the best ones I ever had! We ordered the Tamarindo Cooler and the Super Splash Brothers. Both cocktails were incredible, but the Tamarindo Cooler was my favorite! They served it with tamarind syrup that was delish! Definitely Instagram-worthy and it'll make your taste buds explode! We also shared some Smoked Duck Quesadilla that didn't just look but tasted amazing (unlike anything I ever had) - worth ordering! And just because great service always makes a big difference to me, it's worth mentioning that the guy who served us was super friendly and a big help when it came to choosing our drinks! Honestly recommend going there!

Always a great meal and drink. The rooms are also 4star Staff is always very friendly and ensure you are well taken care of throughout your entire stay. Parking is also very safe.

My new favorite spot in town! Brought my sister in for dinner last night and can't wait to go back. I love a good cocktail, but if you know me, you know that I loooove a good glass of wine too. This place has it all. A mix of traditional and handcrafted cocktails along with a good variety of beer and wine. I ordered the Smoking Carriage cocktail (A MUST!), while my sister got the CA Honey Bee - highly recommend them both, as they were delicious! The food is fantastic. We ordered the tuna tartare, risotto with mushrooms (AMAZING!), grass fed burger, kale quinoa salad and salmon fillet. Everything was delicious. My sister said the burger is THE BEST burger she's had since moving to California! Great ambiance, fantastic cocktails, incredible food and outstanding service. We highly recommend!

Disappointed that nothing here says the restaurant is closed due to staff shortage. Ambiance and decor is nice; the place was totally redone from last time I was here. But no one wants to work. Sheesh.

The food and service were amazing! I had dinner here last night and or server, Amber, did not steer us wrongs on recommending the salmon entree! This was the tastiest heart healthy meal I've had at any local restaurant! The tuna tartar appetizer was slightly smokey and actually tasted like tuna instead of all sorts of tangential flavors like other places pack on. We also really enjoyed the onion soup, drinks and short ribs. But best of all was the attentive service from Amber and the manager Louie who helped us out. It was a great date night!

This is inside of a Marriott hotel. The food was room temperature and not good at all. Tasted like it had just been heated up from frozen in the microwave. We got the tomato bisque, cauliflower, sliders and pork Bao. Come for a drink but don't bother with food

Had a very nice lunch here with a coworker while in a business trip. The food, drinks, and service were great. Why the 3 star? I actually expect a restaurant/bar in a major city Marriot to have this level of eatery, so it's not a slight. If you are staying there, you will not be disappointed.

Amazing drinks and food, Kiernan took great care of myself and my family at the bar and Gary in the restaurant. My whiskey mules were on point, loves\d the food, from the Bucatini to the cauliflower steak, everyone had something they really liked. Thanks for the great experience.

Great food and service... I had the cauliflower, wings and salmon at this restaurant and also the bread pudding. The Salmon was my favorite, followed by cauliflower and wings. The Salmon had crispy skin on it and was cooked right, with an asian broth and mushrooms. Service is great and friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I hosted a Birthday party for my mother. We had the private room. It was perfect for our group. We had three small children and three adults in wheelchairs. The food was delicious and the service superb. The big favorite was the Guinness Braised Short Ribs. The only thing that fell short was bar service was slow.

This review is long overdue but I've been busy with work and the holidays. Better late than never! I met Gary when he was bartending a few weeks ago at the Marriott, I forgot what day it was but he said he's the only Gary there that looks like him. I just want to share the experience I had with him. He was very personable, funny, and made my drinks very well; I'm very picky with my drinks and he made them to perfection! If you're ever in the area I would highly recommend coming by this Marriott in San Mateo.

I was really impressed with this place for being a hotel restaurant/bar. Good, creative cocktails and tasty food. I hate pickles but I demolished the sliders with "quick pickles"...and wanted more.

Unique craft cocktails and high quality food. Their seared crispy salmon is probably the best I've had. Hidden gem in the Marriott by the freeway. Louie the bartender is the friendliest bartender ever!!!

Inventive menu, creative but comfortable atmosphere, and exceptional service. Our server was Amber, couldn't ask for a more friendly and accommodating person. Go out of your way if you must, but EAT HERE FOLKS, you won't be disappointed. Yea, I know, I know, it is located in a hotel but really, this is something different.

Had a wonderful experience there because I am gluten-free and the chef was so accommodating. They have a garden behind the restaurant and use fresh herbs from it so the experience was quite a treat.

Fantastic service. I was "that guy" who came in 15 minutes before closing time. My server Adam was attentive and super happy to be of service. Greatly appreciated after a late flight. Recommend the French onion soup and tuna salad.

Super salt food, risotto was too salty, braised beef was dry and salty, drinks no good.

Took my large family there during the holidays. Excellent service and food was delicious. I had the onion soup and the short ribs. Both were fantastic. I highly recommend this place. Cheers

This place is great. Food is solid and drinks are great (mixed drinks are amazing, good wine list and solid beer selection). Over my weeks stay, I think I tried just about the entire food menu and everything was great!! My last night, I decided at the last minute to get the tiramisu and wow!! The one bartender (guy with the sweet mustache) is really good. You tell he truly cares about his craft and make perfect cocktails! I will have to say as for food, the short rib was probably my favorite. Keep up the great work guys!! If I come back to San Fran, you will find me here!!!

I love this place! Was really impressed with the quality of the food, the wine selection, cocktails and service--all were in a totally different category than your standard hotel restaurant. My favorite things I ate were the risotto and the falafel. The Smoking Carriage cocktail is also delicious! Not something I would have typically ordered but was easily one of the best drinks I've had in recent memory. Highly recommend!!

I recently began driving to SF from where I live in Redwood City on a fairly regular basis. On a recent trip up the Peninsula, a friend was over from across the Bay where they live in Berkeley. I selected the San Mateo Marriott as a meeting point given it's just off 92/San Mateo Bridge and would be convenient for their return to the other side. We sat in the outside area of CRAFT/CODE and had amazing Bloody Mary's made with the Japanese whiskey Kikori. I am not a Bloody fan, but this is exceptional. Since that experience, I've made several visits back for a few sips and a snacks. The food is delightfully created and purely delicious. However, the most impressive thing about CRAFT/CODE has been the service. The staff are fabulously attentive, and squarely invested in their roles. It's an impressive collaboration to witness. On my third visit, I asked to talk to a manager hoping to share my experience feedback. Of course not only did one manager arrive, two managers arrived. Ali and Maegan work together to keep this (rather hidden) gem of an establishment flowing like a hawk gliding on heat thermals above the Pacific shores of Monterrey. Thank you all for consistently making the experience excellent. I'll be back soon!

Bar apps are fantastic. Had the quesadilla and the sliders. Great local beat selection as well. Bar tender was awesome. Super helpful and engaging. Better experience than you might expect from a hotel bar.

I don't understand what all the good reviews are talking about. It was overpriced and the best thing I can say about dinner was the waitress was nice. We ordered the shortrib (yes rib, not ribs), ceaser salad, tomato soup, and bread pudding, and the best thing I ate all night was the home made bread. For $100 I expect more.

I had a pork belly appetizer special and a ahi tuna salad. They were both wonderful beyond my expectations! Not only did they taste great, but the presentation was beautiful. Service was super nice and efficient! I will definitely go there every time I am in San Mateo.

Very disappointed with Sunday Brunch. It's advertised from 11-1, we arrived at 11 and they said it was over and they were closing it.
