Until we went out to Long Beach, I had no idea that Washington had cranberry bogs! But we do, and this little free museum is happy to tell you the story of our state's cranberry history.
You enter the small museum through the gift shop, and there's also a cranberry bog outside where you can walk around and see the experiments they're working on. I'd recommend going through the museum first, as the bog doesn't look like much until you know what's going on in there. There are also some informational handouts you can grab on your way out to the bog that explain what you're looking at.
There's some scary-looking rigged-up farm equipment, berry pickers and sorters, and other crazy old farm machinery, along with photos, maps, and archival documents. Unless you're a real cranberry enthusiast, you should be in and out in well under an hour, but it's a unique stop if you're in the area.
Oh, and don't forget to check out all the cranberry products in the gift shop! Of course there's cranberry sauce, plus cranberry chocolate, cranberry honey, and more cranberry food products than you ever imagined. They also have home decor, soaps and candles, cookbooks, and some really excellent vintage postcards. If you're visiting on a hot day, try the cranberry ice cream!
