Crayola + Kids??? You really cannot go wrong here.
This was a verrrry, verrrrrrrry fun experience for our kids. Yes, the Crayola Experience building doesn't really look huge on the outside...and it isn't, but don't underestimate the tons of fun, games and interactive activities packed into the 4 floors here.
We came by on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend at about 10:30 AM (they operate from 10 AM - 6 PM on Saturdays) and luckily got the last parking spot at the South Third Street Parking Lot. For first-timers wondering about parking, unfortunately, the Crayola Experience does not have a private lot, but there is metered street parking right outside of the Crayola Experience. However, the meters right outside are up to 2 hours only, but, I assume you can probably keep refilling the meter with an app - although I couldn't see if or what app was associated with those parking spots. Anyhow, for the South Third Street Parking Lot, which is a short 1.5 blocks away, the meters are up to 4 hours ($1 per hour) and I can attest to the fact that you can refill it, via the ParkMobile app, as many times as you want, only after the time expires. So, for those needing more than 4 hours at the Crayola Experience, which I assume is most visitors, this is your best bet.
Once we got into the building, we had to wait on the line like everyone else, even though we pre-purchased online tickets, but the wait was relatively short. Once through, that's it, your kids are ready to have a BLAST.
Like I said, there are 4 floors to the building, with the Crayola Cafe located on the 1st. My recommendation to experiences like this is to tackle it at the top and work your way down, but COMPLETELY up to you. Each floor has its own activities, which comprise of art activities (e.g. ring or racecar molding, paint art, coloring printouts with crayons), an indoor playground, robot-driven drawings of your face, cartoon printouts of you, being able to name your own crayon, watching a live show about the crayon making process, collect "passport" stamps of different crayon colors in a passport booklet, etc. There is absolutely LOTS to do here and, if it's your first time, you'll easily be here for 4-5 hours.
As for food you might ask because obviously your kids have to eat at some point - so they don't let you bring food in, although the bag checking process is quite minimal so you can try to bring food or snacks at your own risk. With that said, the area is packed with restaurants including the Easton Public Market, which is right across the street. And, best of all, they allow for re-entry as long as you get a stamp on your hand.
We ended up just dining in the Crayola Cafe though for convenience, which as you would expect serves your typical fast foods - pizza, burgers, fries, tenders, etc. It wasn't terrible, but it's not great either. After we had left the building, we actually walked through the Easton Public Market and I so regretted not trying the vendors there because the food looked so much better (e.g. ramen, BBQ, pizza, etc.).
Anyhow, the Crayola Experience was WELL WORTH the 1 hour drive and price of admission for us. You only need 1 day to visit and see and do everything and our kids really enjoyed their time here. It's no amusement park, but there's plenty of fun packed into this building.
