"For the World's Best Chicken-Fried Steak The historic Crazy Mountain Inn is a great place to stop while cruising through Montana , especially if you arrive with a growling stomach. The Inn's legendary chicken-fried steak will set you right (and put you in the mood for a 10-mile trek, or a fireside nap, depending on your constitution). The Sour Cream Lemon Pie is qually famed, though lighter breakfasts, lunches, and dinners do come out of the kitchen from time to time."

What a cool place! A bit of luck (and rain) helped us find a piece of the old west. Very clean with little thoughtful bits everywhere. Comfy beds and a place to relax downstairs with a cup of coffee. Hang with ranchers and their working dogs at the Mint just across the road for a beer - and the nachos were amazing . You just have to experience it!

When you travel off the beaten path in Montana, you will find spending a night at the Crazy Mountain Inn in Martinsdale is a memory maker. No, it is not a 5 star chain hotel but it is a way to experience some of the vanishing past that makes Montana the last best place. Our room was on the second floor. There was no air conditioning on a 100 degree day, but there was a fan in the window. The furnishings were clean, the bed a little soft, and we did have to share a bathroom in the hall. Somehow, we made it! In the morning we enjoyed a yummy breakfast that was served downstairs. The hotel does not serve alcohol. Across the street from the hotel is the Mint Bar and we found that it was open when it was open. There were no set hours. We were lucky and had a cold one. Plan a night at the Crazy Mountain Inn and experience the past.

Great little place (Crazy Mountain Inn). Was here for a hunting trip recently and really enjoyed the atmosphere at the hotel and restaurant as well as its convenient location to ski resorts and the city of Bozeman. I enjoyed relaxing in the lobby with the wood stove burning and found it super convenient with the restaurant attached (Prairie Smoke Cafe) where you don't even have to take off your slippers to step downstairs and have breakfast, a welcome convenience in these small mountain towns. My room had a simple mountain aesthetic but the bedding and everything looked clean and new. I was worried about being cold at night but I was pleasantly surprised as it was downright hot with the heat/fire stoking at night. The close proximity to Bozeman will have me consider this place in the future especially during busier weeks as the pricing is more reasonable and I can get the mountain experience yet I can go check out the fancy restaurants and stores easily enough especially during the warmer season. Additionally it is close to the one of the bigger ski resorts in the state (Bridger Bowl) as well as the Yellowstone entrance. All in all had a great experience there and will consider it for future trips.

It’s essentially a self serve hostel, but in the best way. Clean, friendly notes scattered around with info about amenities, free pop tarts and treats scattered around, rooms are very very clean, shower head is a little low but who cares, there’s even a bath tub. It’s a solid spot and the mint is a great bar/restaurant across the road, it’s just a cute easy place to stay. If you’re stopping in Montana for a road trip just drive 90 minutes from billing’s through great classic big sky terrain and stay here. We literally had the entire place to ourselves, and you see so much more of this great state.

We came as a family to visit the Bair museum and homestead. You will have lots of choices of room. We were concerned that here is only one bathroom upstair|| ( there is another downstairs) but it was not a problem. We very much enjoyed staying in this tiny town of 50 people. Breakfast and dinner was included. The food was delicious! We asked for pie for breakfast. Excellent. The next morning was cinnamon rolls. They serve good coffee and very good wine. ||||This is an old hotel. You will feel like you are back in time. Some of the mattress are a springy, but there are lots of beds to choose from. You will enjoy your stay if you are just a bit adventurous and don't expect the Hilton.||||The place is clean and has lots of art and antiques. We stayed two nights.

9/2/2017 - My husband and I stumbled on this "Gem" while on a 3 week road trip from AL throughout the West! What an awesome experience! We enjoyed our steaks and wine at dinner, they were wonderful! We stayed the night and what a surprise! We had a room with two double iron beds and just down the hall from the shared bath. There are about 18 (?) rooms upstairs where all share the bath, well there was no worries as there were only a couple of older sisters staying the night besides the two of us, so no wait. It was definitely a step back in time, when things were simpler, perfectly clean and comfortable! If you're looking for an experience for you and the kids as to how things "used to be", then please come here! The food was very good, and the hospitality could not be beat! We are traveling back for round two this summer and can't wait!!

Needed a room for one night. Found this gem at a great price. Called and left a voice mail and was quick to get a call back. Arrived around 9pm. Was greeted by a friendly worker who got us settled. Room was upstairs with two double beds. There was a bathroom across the hall from us. Just had to time it right to use the bathroom and take showers. Was told there was another bathroom on main floor but we did not check it out. We checked out around 7am. Do not recall if they had breakfast or not as we wanted to get on the road. It was a great stay and wish we were not in a hurry to our destination.

My husband and I stopped in Martinsdale for lunch after visiting the Bair museum. It was a long ways to our next stop and were delighted with the menu, food and service given in this out of the way spot. My husband had a hamburger with chips but I settled for an order of chicken strips from the "child's" menu. I was given three large pieces of crispy but very tender strips of very hot from the fryer chicken along with an order of fries (which both of us devoured). When desert came we decided to "split" a piece of rhubarb a la mode. Absolutely delicious! The whole experience was one of the best things that happened on our trip to Great Falls and back. The sleepy little town also has a terrific Farmers Market across the street from the diner. They announce it with a sign attached to a back hoe parked in the middle of the very wide main street! I greatly recommend going out of the way for this dining, as well as artistic, experience.

Yelp
We stopped in for beers and dessert and loved this place. Very friendly, excellent food and a fantastic building. Our one regret is that we didn't eat dinner here - their chicken fried steak is supposedly famous. Highly recommend!

Yelp
What?!?! A hotel in a ghost town? And you thought Butte was abandoned. Martinsdale, Montana has this hotel/restaurant and a bar, and that's it as to commercial. You can visit the site of the forlorn Mercantile, but the doors are shuttered. The woman who runs the bar lives 35 miles east of town and kinda sorta comes in whenever the mood moves her as I understand it. The hotel is rickety and way past it's best days. One bathroom for 13 rooms and you can't lock your room door when you leave. No one around to steal your stuff anyway, so that's not an issue really. The door to our room had a 2"-3" gap at the top and, truth be told, wouldn't even stay shut without pushing clothes or a chair up against it. When people arrive late (midnight one night we were there) you hear every word they say as they shuffle in. All the rooms are down a single hall on the upper floor. Noisy I tell ya. The owners are warm and accommodating. The food is average at best, but as it's the only place to sleep or eat within 30 miles ... I have back packed through parts of Eastern Europe and stayed in a few places that are rough and tumble. Crazy Mountain Inn could be one of them. Still, all in all, a fun little place with happy folks all around.

Yelp
Bicycling cross-country, I was wondering if I might even find water in Martinsdale - short of knocking on someone's door. To my surprise, not only was there water, but a wonderful restaurant - serving delicious food and scrumptious pies. A perfect lunch on a perfect riding day. Thanks!

Yelp
We stopped at this place for lunch before an afternoon of horseback riding. The waitress came over to us immediately and made some good recommendations. My husband went with the chile burger- the burger was cooked well and had a lot of flavor and was tender. I got the turkey and bacon club on French bread, which was toasted and the right consistency. My friend got the country fried steak- the breading was light and flaky and was served on a piece of toast with gravy. The gravy was a great consistency and completed the meal. Service was great and good was awesome. Great spot in Martinsdale, MT!

Yelp
I stayed here during my Tour de Crazies, having bicycled up from Big Timber, MT via Harlotown. The proprieter, Amy fixed a delicious dinner for me. The room was comfy and the ghosts in this old brothel friendly. The clear, starry skies alone warrant five stars. If you want to see the real Montana, spend the night here and have a beer for me across the street at the Mint bar.

Yelp
Are you seriously kidding me no one has had a review on this place!!! Fantastic food. The pies are to die for. Call to check on times sometimes they go fishing.

Yelp
an inn with character that will transport you into the past, some how spartan but as authentic as it gets, situated in a small town out of a western film. good food, home cooking, all fresh ingredients, reasonable prices. everybody working there is charming, good bar across the street. three stars and a half

Yelp
we were there for mothers day. The place is quaint and charming inside and the food was fantastic. Great prime rib and potato, salad and rolls. The desserts are to die for!! Esp the rhubarb and sour cream lemon pie!!
