We were booked into another hotel for the night but after seeing the room we decided not to stay there so we booked the creebridge house hotel for the night through booking.com. Reviews seemed good and the photos looked nice. We checked in and went to the room, happy that we had found somewhere else to spend the night after a manic search looking for somewhere that took dogs. The room was another disappointment... Two disappointments in one day just our luck! So we bit the bullet and stayed. Walking into the room it was cold and the radiators were off, bearing in mind it was very cold outside but luckily or unlucky there was a little fan heater so that was put on straight away. We looked around the room, as you do, and the bathroom and bedroom were grubby, poor housekeeping and poor maintenance in all areas. Bathroom had dirty marks on bath panel, toilet had urine on it radiator filled with thick dust and mirror needed a good clean in fact all the mirrors needed a good clean! The lampshades in bedroom were thick with dust, the headboard was Very loose, the base of the bed had 2 sheets of plywood screwed to it, the window rattled and it was a good job the curtains were thick to stop the draught. We went down to the bar for a drink but couldn't sit there as there was a large group of non residents in to watch the rugby so we went through to the lounge where there was a lovely fire but there were non residents in there so we tried again and went to the residents lounge which was a very large cold room with no inviting fire lit. We booked a table for dinner and because it was Valentine's Day the earliest was 5.45pm. It had been a long day we were cold and hungry but booked the slot anyway. Newton Stewart is a very short walk so the hotel is in a great location for closeness to local amenities, hunger got the better of us and we ate while out and cancelled our reservation. We got back and still no room in the bar so took a couple of drinks back to the room where we spent the evening. Had a very broken and uncomfortable sleep because of... the hard bed, pillows that need replacing, noise of fan heater which was set on thermostat position and on all night as all the radiators all need bled so fan heater was only source of heat. The fire door had a halo of light around it which would not save anyone if, god forbid, there was a fire. The Hotel says it is dog friendly and yet there is no bin that we could see on the grounds to put the poo bag in.
