Google

Beyond delicious! Seasoned just right! Superb ambience! Service with a smile! Thank you Ms Vernell for this awesome culinary experience! I shall return!

Google
Amazing food and customer service. One of my favorite places to get a great tasting soul food plate lunch. Always leave with a full stomach and a smile. Red gravy meatloaf and a Creole Stuffed Bread is pictured. Can't beat that!

Tyler Tork

Google
It is not a place for vegetarians. Even if you order a vegetable side, you will probably find some meat in it. But everything was tasty and I got a little extra to go.

Chris (Scipio Africanus)

Google
This was my first true experience with the incredible cuisine they refer to as Creole. Aside from my wife's Haitian cooking which is a bit different from the Louisiana interpretation. The Creole Lunch is very unassuming I'm appearance, and easy to miss if you are not looking. Nestled on the side of the road, I noticed the sign and the grassy parking lot. The inside is literally the inside of a house, giving it welcoming appeal. The place is a local, family-owned establishment and it shows in the food and hospitality. Now the matter of the food. It is bleeping epic! Everything I ate, and I ate half my weight in food, was delicious! The Jambalaya was spicy, savory, and teeming with flavor. As was the pork with dirty rice and collard greens. The food was so good, I ordered the Catfish Po Boy as a second entree and ate the whole damn thing. Needless to say it was life-changing. I left here full and sleepy. A meal I will remember for the rest of my life.

Found a gem in the middle of Lafayette. Good ol' home cookin', inexpensive, and friendly folks. Will be going back next time I'm in the area.

Jon Young

Google
Good smothered liver and greens! Definitely worth a stop for lunch!

Yelp
This is a neat little spot with a causal atmosphere. It has a simple lunch line with some Cajun staples - everything I tried was a wonderful representation of the local flavor. Food was served with a smile and you can tell they take pride in what they offer. Don't overlook this one!

Mike R.

Yelp
Awesome red beans !!!!! Very friendly employees very clean restaurant Love the old house is is located at

Yelp
You have to check this place out if you're ever in Lafayette, LA. They're only open during the week until I believe 2pm or so, but it's an absolute must if you're in the area. Their plate lunches are so reasonably priced and they give you a TON of food. This has become one of my favorite local hidden gems. On top of the amazing food (so far I've tried the red beans and the chicken fricasse), they're always so kind and are genuinely happy to see you pop in. The building is actually a little house, which is so fitting because it feels like you're walking into a friend's place for some amazing home cooked food. If you're ever in Lafayette during the week and need some lunch, come here! You will leave needing a food coma nap.

Yelp
Thai is the epitome of a hole in the wall restaurant. The pork chops was tasty and very well seasoned. The peas both sweet and black eyed were awesome. Now for the stuffed bread it was the best thing I ate on this entire trip. The mix of the flavors in the bread is exactly what I want when thinking creole this is the flavor.

Leta P.

Yelp
Delicious and reasonably priced. Vegetables like mom used to cook. The stuffed bread was excellent.

Michael H.

Yelp
Great food and service, well worth the detour off I-10! Small inside, but everyone was friendly, and made room to eat. Food made from scratch, you can see the kitchen from inside!

Bonnie S.

Yelp
This place is great. I'm so glad I don't live in Lafayette because I would go here EVERY day and it doesn't exactly fit my diet. I got the fried pork chop and my husband got the chicken fricasse

Pam M.

Yelp
My sister introduced me to this secret(not so secret) gem. The stuffed breads are the big draw here but their plate lunches are wonderful too and they give you plenty to eat. If you walk away hungry, you left half your foodvuneaten. Creole House is southern home cooking at its best. The people are so friendly, if you've been away for awhile, they greet you like you've been missed while you were away. There isn't much sitting room and you may have to share a table with someone you don't know, but what a great way to make a new friend, over great food. You may have to look for it but once you've found it, you'll never forget. Finding it is WELL WORTH the effort

Belinda S.

Yelp
This place was absolutely worth getting off IH10 on the drive home from New Orleans. We had the fried pork chop and the smothered pork chop and it was delicious. Spinach is tasty and a little spicy. You can get red beans and rice as a small side, just ask. The cornbread is also tasty. Servers were friendly and courteous. This place is a little piece of heaven on earth. Cafeteria style service. Also, they now take credit cards. Yay!

Jonita F.

Yelp
Just had lunch here!! The food and hospitality was amazing! We even got stuffed breads to go!! Thank You for a very filling meal and gracious experience!

Margaret M.

Yelp
One of the most humble and loving places around. Food is most comforting and seasoned perfectly- well spiced but not hot. The service was excellent and staff was very friendly. We felt right at home.

Michele C.

Yelp
Tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood on the outskirts of town, you wouldn't know the spring green colored cottage on the corner is the Creole Lunch house save for the small sign in the front and the unmarked gravel parking lot on the side. As you enter the tiny cottage you smell a little grease, seasoning and food cooked with love. Five or so tables are along the right wall across from the main counter and a couple in the front. Seating for about 15 or so people is available inside and there is a plastic table and a few chairs on the front porch in case anyone would want to eat outside. Open for lunch only, Monday- Friday 11:00am-2pm each day features five or six standard plates and, of course, their famous creole stuffed bread is always available. From liver, chicken fricassée, meatballs and red beans and rice on Mondays to fried catfish, shrimp, fried pork chop, catfish coubillion on Friday this is honest food at honest prices.

Taylor R.

Yelp
One of the best plate lunches in town. They also sell the best stuff bread in town. I would highly recommend this place for anyone

Timmy W.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. It's tucked away in a neighborhood. It's definitely a hole in the wall but it's good ole home cookin'. I got the fried catfish and it was perfectly cooked. My mouth is salivating just thinking about the catfish. I also got two sides: red beans and greens. Both were very tasty. My wife got the chicken fricassee and loved it. I would definitely go back in a heartbeat. The only negative was they didn't have sweet tea. They do have sweetener but it's not the same to me. Besides that, this place is 5 stars without a doubt.

Justin T.

Yelp
If I could leave no stars I would. I am from the area and has always supported and loved there food including the stuffed bread. Recently I went and ordered turkey wings and red beans. The rice felt like rocks. The gravy was definitely made with brown gravy mix and the red beans were sweet which is really weird. And to top it all off, the lady at the window had a very nasty attitude. Will never return.

Creed P.

Yelp
Had the fried pork chop for $9.75 with rice and gravy, black eye peas and lima beans yesterday. The pork chop was greasy and all the coating fell off, lima beans were not cooked , blackeyes were just that. A lot of people had great reviews of this place which leads me 2 think ya'll can' t cook well either. Staff was ok. Never again.

Justin M.

Yelp
Yes 5 stars for the fried pork chop and cornbread!! Just finished it and sitting here half tempted to go into gluttony to order another one so I can get the best sleep ever after haha. Just great southern soul food and real nice staff. The place feels as old as its been around. Like stepping into your grandmas house. Yes it's on the north side of town but does not matter. I'm pretty sure all their stuff is great but there is no way I can come here and not order the chop! I've had there stuffed bread and it's good as well. But you bes order dat chop sha! The cornbread is very buttery and just as fantastic as the chop. It's cash only so don't forget your money and very reasonably priced for great food. Time for my nap now

Meka B.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed the fried pork chop. I have been craving a chop for years and finally got what I was looking for. Meat was seasoned and cooked just right! The sides were delicious, too. My mom had the red beans and rice and said they were yummy. We'll definitely be back!!!

Randy R.

Yelp
Don't let the location fool you, you should stop by. Home style cooking, large portions, and friendly owners. Recommend the stuffed bread.

Linda S.

Yelp
The food was great . The inside of the house and restroom needs a facelift badly. I gave it 4 stars because the food was very good. They have a drive thru I believe. Its small inside maybe 15 people could sit down and eat. I think with some TLC it would attract more people to try the amazing food

James L.

Yelp
I had the Chicken Fricassee with yams and sweet cornbread. But before I ate any of this I had the stuffed bread. I've got just one word for it DELICIOUS. Chicken Fricassee was very good, just the right amount of seasoning. I'd put it up against the one I had at Pearls Kitchen in Opelousas,La. I know this has been said before, but this place is one of the gems in this city. Great food, service and prices you can't beat. I will definitely come here again.

Malia H.

Yelp
Going through withdrawal already! I look forward to those stuffed breads every year for Jazz Fest (N.O.). Thank you for such goodness.

Anna W.

Yelp
Great food! Cozy location. We tried the stuffed bread. Very good. We were very impressed with staff. Even got a free sample of the catfish courtbouillon. It was amazing!

Darrell S.

Yelp
OMG, can I eat here again tomorrow? Stopped in on trip to NOLA, from Houston. RBR great, pork chop and rice amazing!! Thank you yelp for the suggestion and thank you Creole Lunch House for being even better than expected!! Great food and great service!!

Derril A.

Yelp
You know I ate here several times a week back in the nineties and it was always amazing. I came home to visit and took my daughter there to experience it. She and I were happy to find that it's exactly the same. Great homemade soul food and very friendly staff. Feels like eating with family every time. Delicious!

Blanca B.

Yelp
Literally a good southern atmosphere food was on point prices were a lil high but overall good

C S.

Yelp
Read about their famous stuffed buns and had to try one. Did not disappoint! The red beans and sausage were perfection, the greens were worth the drive from California!

Joey F.

Yelp
Best Creole food I've eaten in years! I just wish I had enough room to try it all! The stuffed bread is awesome. The food is spicy!

Brittney C.

Yelp
My my my, after tasting this food, I don't think I'll ever want to leave Lafayette! Here for business purposes and I am determined to try all of the local hot spots. This place exceeded my expectations. The best red beans and rice I have ever eaten and also spinach!! Yum yum yum. I also ordered the ever famous creole stuffed bread. It was delicious but I actually enjoyed my sides much more. Will be coming back for those smothered chops and to taste the other dishes!

Tony B.

Yelp
Very good home cooked food. Stuffed bread was amazing. Very good vegetables and sides. Great for lunch. Don't let the exterior fool you. Serious cooking inside that building

Micheal P.

Yelp
For the most part, this place stands up to plate lunch standards in Lafayette. What I mean is this place is really good, and if I found it in any other US town, I'd probably be giving it higher marks. Of course, this is South Louisiana we're talking about, so competition is really stiff. One thing about this restaurant gets 5 stars: the stuffed bread. It's like a soft pillowy pocket of delicious ground meat. Just stop reading and go buy it.

Karen M.

Yelp
The food is down home creole cooking!! The pork chop is divine. The stuffed bread is as good and unique as I read and the red beans and rice as as good as you ever dream them to be. This place is a definite most do stop. Do not forget to take a bottle of hot sauce home.

Eureeka S.

Yelp
Cheap, addictive & completely unhealthy with a friendly, "ya-mom-an'-'em" atmosphere. This is the dive to visit if you are feeling decadent & want a good ole' artery-clogging lunch. I haven't been here in a while, but dear lord, I can still taste that stuffed bread & that side of beans. Mmmmm. Go. Now.

Stacy L.

Yelp
Call in your order then pick it up at the drive up window. Everything I have tried has been the best ever! Friendly guy runs the place well. Very consistent and delish!

John A.

Yelp
Outstanding home cooked goodness! I had the Creole Sausage with Red Beans and Rice. It was excellent and with a drink, was ~$8. The staff was very friendly and courteous. After my meal, they said I still looked hungry and gave me a second plate of rice and ribs (also excellent) on the house. When I was leaving, I mentioned how good it was and they gave me a free stuffed bread. Such nice people.

Jill S.

Yelp
This place was fabulous. Folks were friendly. As one customer told us when we asked what the stuffed bread was stuffed with, "Heaven." Greens were great.

Mel W.

Yelp
If you go to the Jazz Fest, be sure to go have the Creole Lunch House's Creole Stuffed Bread. It is absolutely delicious. Their booth is located in Food Area II. It is one of my favorites and I look forward to it every time I go.

James P.

Yelp
The best creole lunch in town for a reasonable price. Not quite a secret, but not that well known. A small white-clapboard place in a black neighborhood in Lafayette, the Creole Lunch House offers the typical buffet-style plate lunches with three to four entrees plus sides. Comfortable for groups of three or four, it would be crowded for more.

Heather H.

Yelp
It's like eating at grandma's. The food is simple southern (mustard greens, corn bread, etc.) But oh so delicious! I have made my own greens for years, but they have never come close to as good as the creole lunch house's. Fried catfish and the fried pork chop are both great. The stuffed bread was certainly good, but didn't totally live up to all the hype of the other commenters... but I'm not against giving it another try ;) overall, delicious food, good price, and friendly, engaging staff. They've earned a frequent customer!

Jen T.

Yelp
We tried to eat here. Showed up on Saturday at noon and they were closed. No hours posted -- at least non that we could find.

Shytishia F.

Yelp
If you're looking for a good plate lunch in a trusted kitchen, then this is the place. Delicious food and stuffed breads. Eat in, carry out and drive through. Get there early though or you will miss out!!

Steve W.

Yelp
Great little lunch place! We were passing through and decided to stop based on Yelp reviews. REAL Cajun food, the way its supposed to be. Red beans and rice were excellent, and the meatball Fricasee had a nice kick to it. We'll be back the next time through Lafayette!

Matthew C.

Yelp
Yes, I am proud to say that I utilized Yelp to find this place on my recent trip to the Lafayette, LA area and so glad I did! At first approach, the small, run-down house/restaurant had all the makings of an incredible lunch experience (restaurant tucked back in a neighborhood, limited hours of operation, cash only). All of the food is "cafeteria style" - meaning you order at the counter and pick amongst the glorious steam trays. The menu looks like it changes pretty regularly - it is written on a white board behind the counter. One thing that doesn't change is this beautiful creation called Stuffed Bread. It is an oversized roll that is crammed with spiced meat and sausage - very delicious and I would look past this on your first visit! To accompany my Stuffed Bread, I opted with double starch. The Red Beans and Rice w/ Sausage was good (although with more sausage it would have been better - I think the sausage added more salt to the equation). However, the show stopper side was the Lima Beans. Yes, that's right - you know the kind where you start with dry bean and cook them to death with Ham Hock. Yes, there was not a bean in there that was not partially pulverized (just the way I prefer). Next time you are looking for a quick lunch spot in Lafayette, give Creole Lunch House a try. Just remember, cash or check only. Embarrassing, but I actually had to write a $6.97 check because I only had $5 in my wallet. Sad...

Traci W.

Yelp
Mmmmmm, stuffed bread.... OK, I'm back.....I was having a moment. :) Went to the Creole Lunch House for a great dinner....hahahaha, just kidding. A coworker and I went nice and early so we could taste whatever fresh, piping hot creole yummies they were serving. The stuffed bread is the BUSINESS! And what is stuffed bread you ask...because that is what I DID ask....A delicious roll stuffed with beef, sausage and cheese (sigh) Seriously, they are like delectable creole empanadas...but they're not deep fried. +1 for the diet :) pssshhh, you can throw healthiness out the window when you arrive at a place like this! Alongside my stuffed bread was a hearty portion of Red Beans & Sausage over rice, which after being blessed by their homeade hot sauce was enough to send me back to work on full.....until nap time, that is. Would I go back? Yes, yes I would...with friends...but not too many friends. :D

John D.

Yelp
After checking in to my hotel, I fired up the Yelp app and this place popped up. Nice find, Yelp. The specialty is the stuffed bread, and it's amazing. It's dough stuffed with tasty sausage and other meats, served with red beans and rice. Prices are dirt cheap, and the food is fantastic. I'd come back to Lafayette just to eat here.

Gabriella H.

Yelp
Stuffed Bread awesomeness. Quiet little place always neat and clean. Country style meals.

Anthony B.

Yelp
Stopped in on a cross country trip from California. Fantastic home cooked creole comfort food, generous portions and warm friendly welcome!!

Gavin D.

Yelp
The fried pork chop is perfect. 2 Fridays in a row for a take out work order. Words aren't good enough, this place is a must try.

Angela B.

Yelp
It doesn't get more authentic than this. Menu changes daily and they are only open for lunch. Cafeteria style but don't let that fool you. Everything is full of flavor! The gentleman let us get a little taste of everything. What a hidden gem!!
