11 Haunted Hotels Where You Can Rest in Peace

"Perched high above the village of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the 78-room Crescent Hotel and Spa was built in 1886 as a luxury retreat for those wishing to bathe in the healing springs of the area. Right from the start, however, tragedy seemed built into the  foundation. While under construction, an Irish stonemason identified only as “Michael” fell to his death inside the grand building. Not long after its debut, it became financially unsustainable, and was abandoned and fell into disrepair. In 1908, it was reopened as the Crescent College and Conservatory for Young Women. It was during this time that another tragic death occurred - a young woman fell (or was pushed) to her death from one of the top-story windows. The Conservatory closed in 1924, and again, the Crescent sat abandoned. Over the years, the Crescent was repurposed as a junior college, then a summer hotel once again. Never could any owner make a success of it. Then, in 1937, the Crescent was purchased by Norman Baker, who turned it into a hospital and health resort and painted everything lavender and purple. There Baker, who had no medical training and had been run out of his home state of Iowa, sold cures for cancer and other ailments. Baker, however, was much more than a harmless quack. He would only accept patients with no close family, and upon their acceptance to his sanitarium, would have them sign undated letters declaring themselves much improved and well. Baker’s “cures” ran the spectrum from untested to downright cruel. One “treatment” consisted of drilling holes in patients’ skulls and injecting a cocktail of spring water, cornsilk, carbolic acid and ground-up watermelon seeds. He frequently practiced surgery in the basement. One wing of the building was sealed off and named the “psychiatric ward.” There, patients who were crying out in pain would be sequestered away from prying eyes. Once the poor patients finally succumbed to either their illnesses or Baker’s treatments, he had them spirited away under cover of night (rumor has it he would take the bodies away through a secret tunnel to a local crematorium, but no such tunnel has been found). Meanwhile, he would send the previously signed letters to whatever family the patient had. After a while, he would then send the family a sadly worded notice that their relative had passed away, and requesting a sum of money to take care of the arrangements. Baker pocketed the money, of course. Once word began to trickle out about what was going on inside the Baker Hospital, the townsfolk reported him. After a multi-day standoff with local police and the FBI, he was finally imprisoned for fraud. Eurekans were so incensed by what had happened they broke down the doors and trashed the place, destroying records and even attempting to burn the building down. After the Baker incident, the Crescent sat ownerless and abandoned until 1946. Ten years later, the building nearly burned to the ground. In 1997, the building was purchased by Marty and Elise Roenigk, who oversaw an expensive six-year restoration and renovation of the hotel. In 2009, Marty Roenigk died in a car accident. Visitors over the years have reported witnessing strange goings-on in the halls and rooms of the Crescent. Room 218, where Michael fell to his death, is said to be the most haunted. Today, the hotel gives daily ghost tours. On the tours, guests visit the hotel’s basement, which was once used as the hospital’s morgue and still contains an old autopsy table. In 2017, a 62-year-old man named William Thomas fell to his death from a fourth-story balcony inside the Crescent Hotel. The incident was determined to be an accident. Frequent reports of paranormal sightings—most often involving doctors, nurses, and patients of the former hospital—make this one of the most haunted hotels in the United States. Recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of America’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations, the Crescent features 15 on-site acres of gardens and nature trails. Visitors can also enjoy the more than 100 restored Victorian restaurants, shops, and galleries in the nearby town." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A magical stay—historic charm, friendly staff, and even my dog felt like royalty I recently stayed at the Crescent Hotel and had such a fantastic experience from start to finish. While I didn’t spot any ghosts, the ghost tour was absolutely worth it—fun, informative, and full of spooky charm. It brought the hotel’s rich history to life in the most entertaining way. The guide was fantastic and made it a real highlight of the trip. Every staff member I encountered was incredibly friendly and helpful, from the front desk to housekeeping to the bar staff. It’s rare to feel so genuinely welcomed, and it made the stay feel extra special. The complimentary shuttle to downtown was a huge bonus—super convenient and quick, and the drivers were just as kind and knowledgeable as everyone else. It made exploring Eureka Springs easy and stress-free. And a huge shout-out for being so dog-friendly—my big black dog, Bo, was treated like an honored guest. We explored the gardens, lounged on the lawn, and she got so many pets and compliments along the way. She absolutely loved it! If you’re looking for a place with character, kindness, and a touch of haunted history, the Crescent delivers on all counts. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Great hotel! The rooms were nice and well cleaned. This place has a lot of charm. I didn't see a ghost but I did keep a lamp on because I was a little scared. Staff were all amazing and extremely attentive. Lots of activities to do included in the hotel experience. I enjoyed my stay! My only thing is I would have liked water in the room or somewhere to fill a bottle.

The bed slept very good. I have a bad back and this bed kept me asleep and rested when I woke. That being said, the start of our experience was bumpy. The first room we had was so hot, we couldn’t stay in there. Called the front desk, they came up to investigate while we went to eat dinner. But when we returned, it was still hot in the room, so we called the desk again. They then switched us to a different room. This one was much cooler & an upgrade. It had a jacuzzi in the room too.|We were satisfied with this room for the remainder of our stay. |However, the noise in this hotel is awful. I know this is an old hotel but ‘good grief’!! They have these “ghost tours” every single night! With all the stomping up & down the halls, slamming doors, loud talking, and early morning ‘cleaning up’ by throwing beer bottles in the trash can!! There is no rest here, if that’s what you’re coming here to do. I’m pretty sure this will be our last trip here. Wasn’t what we were expecting I guess.

Google
I didn't not actually stay at the hotel but did enjoy the ghost tour. The grounds were beautiful with plenty of activities to do. They had some nice swings out back as well as a "Shooting Range" for Red Ryder BB guns. There was a chess set with huge pieces you would walk around and pick up to move (probably 3ft tall). Kids seemed to be having a great time in the pool. I did get to see inside a room during the tour. They seemed to be nice and nostalgic.

Beautifully manicured and maintained historic hotel with lots of time period decor. Comfortable beds in big rooms with beautiful views. Friendly helpful staff. Loved using the courtesy shuttle for going downtown. History and ghost tour was very informative and entertaining. Loved the live in hotel cats! Will stay here again.

We were celebrating my husband's birthday in Eureka Springs, and as a splurge, we stayed at the Crescent Hotel, and it was a treat! The Crescent surprised us with a third-floor room upgrade that had a balcony! The views from the back of the hotel are STUNNING! We enjoyed drinks and the BEST PIZZA on the 4th floor of the hotel. The grounds of this historic hotel are a pleasure to walk and provide ideal photography. The Saint Elizabeth Church is a short walk down the hill from the hotel and provides a nice tour opportunity. There is also an entrance to Eureka Spring's Harmon Loop Trail from the parking lot of the Crescent Hotel so be sure to bring some sturdy hiking shoes for your visit.

Google
We've been visiting the Crescent Hotel since the 1980s. We've seen it through good times and some pretty rough not so good times. Our recent visit was quite nice. The hotel has never looked better! The staff is friendly and helpful. On site eats and drinks available. Parking is adequate except during peak season or special events. The garden spots are well maintained, but no longer features a large spacious rose garden of years gone by. Views are outstanding. The Crescent, built in the 1880s, is quite historic! It is locally owned; not a chain or corporate lodging. It's well worth your time to visit even if you are not booking a long weekend. A gem of Eureka Springs.

Google
Visited during a road trip celebrating our anniversary. Worst hotel we could have picked. 10/10 would not stay here again. First and foremost the hotel sent a rating/review text at 11:30 PM and again at 2:30 AM WORST SLEEP EVER… The hotel is focused on quantity and not quality. The history is fascinating although the hotel itself was not worth the cost of our one night stay. Unfortunately, our experience at the Crescent Hotel ruined our Eureka Springs trip and we left very early the following morning without exploring anything else. We might as well have stayed in our car overnight and would have had a better experience.

Yelp
We did not stay at this hotel, but we did eat at the sky bar and go on the ghost tour. It was beautiful and eery, although like others said, this is a great hotel if you enjoy historic places. If you are looking for luxury, this is not it (I don't know why you would come to rural arkansas and look for luxury though...) It was so charming to us, and we love our diy ghost hunts!

Yelp
Management is sadly lacking at this property. The guy at the desk set the wrong tone when he kept me waiting for about ten seconds before finally looking up and asking snottily, "Can I help you?" Uh, yeah, checking in. I also had a less than cordial experience with a woman at the pizza bar upstairs. The hotel itself is cool. I randomly was assigned the most haunted room, but I have no ghosts to report. The ghost tour is overpriced at $30. The nearby town is fun, with lots of shops, restaurants, and bars. The free shuttle service is a nice touch. As is the free and large parking lot. Overall, it's a beautiful, interesting old property. But for what they charge, it should be a nicer experience.

Yelp
From the $20 per day Resort Fee, that seems to cover the non functioning elevator and non working ice machine, to the 18% Service Fee in the Restaurants Bar these people will nickel and dime you to death. Our waiter let us know that the 18% fee was a "Gratuity" split between all workers but we could add an additional 20% if we thought his service was adequate. The maintenance on the Hotel is non existent. Our door stuck due to a loose hinge, two burned out bulbs in the chandelier, squeaky floors and did I mention the elevator that wouldn't let you out on the first floor. Then there was the 60 minute massage that lasted just over 45 minutes. Needless to say I do not recommend and I will not return. Such waste potential on what could be a beautiful resort.

Yelp
We had a ball on our tour with EMF! He did a great job keeping us engaged and interested. The tour started on the fourth floor with a brief history of the hotel and city-tying them together nicely. As we went to each floor we were told of one ghost story or another. Since it is a real, operating hotel we did not expect to go into any rooms as some other reviews mentioned their disappointment in. If you do want something more hands on, they do offer a seance style tour. However, I would stick with EMF, he's great! The tour ends in the morgue with some really neat artifacts from the hotel-definitely check this one out!

Yelp
The food in both restaurants was great loved the breakfast and Hawaiian pizza, staff was friendly service was good I don't really have anything to complain about its a beautiful hotel.

Yelp
You will love it if you want to stay there because you like staying at historic hotels. You will not love it if you like staying at luxury hotels. The good: Beautiful lobby, very historic feel. Our room was pretty and had a neat skylight. The pizza was yum. Ghost tour was entertaining. The bad: Everything is overpriced, even in the off season. Our room was not worth what we paid. The shower was awful- hot and cold blasts, low pressure. Lots of noise from the hallway and bar (if we opened the curtain people sitting at the bar balcony could look right into our room). The bed was not comfortable. The ghost tour was fun but again, not worth what we paid. There's some crazy fee attached to the restaurant bill that is 18% but not a tip and doesn't go directly to your server. I guess you're supposed to feel bad for the owners having to pay their employees a living wage, so instead of just raising the price on the meal they tack on an extra 18% that you're not expecting and then you feel like you still need to tip. After one meal I refused to eat any more onsite because of this. The ugly: We went to the bar on the 4th floor. The prep area was very dirty looking and our overpriced drinks were terrible- neither of us could even finish them.

Happy P.

Yelp
i went there for my uncle's wedding and it was absolutely beautiful. the food was amazing, the views from the top floor are incredible (especially at night), and they have a ton of fun activities to do.

Stacey K.

Yelp
Stayed for a long weekend. Let's start with the good: the food was fantastic!! The Stuffed French Toast was amazing. Eat it every day you are there, I swear, you will see Jesus!! The pizza was really good too. The shower was also notable, great water pressure, and it got nice and hot very quickly. The beds were comfortable and we slept great while we were there. The Ghost Tour was informative and enjoyable, loved ending in the morgue, nice touch. We had lovely interactions with all of the staff. Had a few treatments at the spa which were also great. Now, the not so good. The entire place looks a little tired and dirty. The windows and the plastic lining on the balcony in Skybar were dirty. Absolutely filthy. And if what we can see is dirty, what about what we can't see???.... The scuffed paint was a downer too. The lighting throughout the property is also really bad, almost like it's still 1880 and I didn't like that I could see dead bugs in the ceiling fan in our room. The holiday decorations looked old and tired, there was no cohesive theme and it looked thrown together. It's a shame, given this property's rich history and sadly fading grandeur. Glad I had the opportunity to stay here but I would love to see some improvements before I chose to return.

Yelp
Must see in the area Really legit old hotel Said to be haunted Great pizza at Skytop Bar Definitely a must do Great service

Yelp
The hotel is lovely and every encounter we had with staff was so pleasant. We live this hotel and look forward to going back. The breakfast was great.

Yelp
I stopped in and visited the upstairs bar, view was absolutely gorgeous! Staff was very friendly and answered so many historical questions I had.

Yelp
Pasta is below average. Dessert wasn't baked, tried to send it back but they argued about it. Won't be back

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights which included Christmas Day. We Had a minor hiccup with our room which was promptly resolved by Manager on duty WITHOUT us saying anything-the staff reported the issue. Highly impressed! Staff very friendly, service exemplary. It is an older hotel which in spite of updating maintains the charm of era wherein it was built. You must visit the spa for massages as well! Can't say enough good things about this place. Definitely going back in the spring'nn

Yelp
1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa: I really appreciate how dog-friendly (and dog-owner-friendly) the Crescent Hotel is. We came off of a 12+ hour drive and it was easy to get in with my pup (who doesn't like being around people). It was easy for me to get food and drinks and room service is available too. There was also plentiful green space and trails for walking dogs. We stayed in the South Penthouse and I really enjoyed the room and view, especially the orange harvest full moon rising alongside the fireworks on the 4th. Very memorable Tip: The hotel was crowded on the holiday weekend, so be prepared for that.

Yelp
I love historical buildings and places. The Crescent is a really cool hotel built in 1886. They have done a good job restoring it to its past glory. The grounds are well kept. They have a free shuttle to take you into town and back so you can leave your car in the ample parking lot instead of trying to park in town. They offer a breakfast from 8-11 in a great restaurant. You can do buffet or order off the menu. Strange that they don't offer lunch or dinner. Maybe they don't want to compete with the restaurants in town. They do have a pizzeria on the top floor. We ate there our first night. The pizza was great. They only offer one size - way more than 2 people can eat. My only complaint is the bed in our room. It may be original from 1886. IT SUCKED! The mattress was hard as the floor. The mattress sounded like and felt like the springs collapsed or something. The pillows were hard as rocks. I may have gotten 2 hours of sleep a night. I did get a short nap after my wife and I spent the day walking around downtown. Not sure I would recommend people stay here unless they have rooms with better mattresses. Definitely a place to come see even if you don't stay here.

Yelp
Larry was pissed we didn't stay here. The rooms are all unique and each one has a story. You can tell The Cresent was a masterpiece in its heyday. It's hard to deny this place is well appointed. It sits atop one of the highest points in Eureka Springs so views of the area are amazing from the upper levels. We really enjoyed the ghost tour. The hotel is old and scary and even though I'm not a huge believer in the paranormal this place/tour had me thinking there might be ghosts in our presence. The tour took us all over the hotel/grounds so we got a good taste for what we missed out on. If you are going to Eureka Springs stay at The Cresent. This is the coolest place in the area.

Kathy P.

Yelp
Don't recommend coming on a Saturday The restaurant that they advertise is closed if they're having an event which they don't tell you until you're here we can always make reservations and have pizza if they're having an events who wants pizza on vacation? unfortunately, they told us it was sold out this weekend so we couldn't switch rooms. We were put on the first floor right next to where the wedding party was celebrating they said quiet time was 10 but I guess that's just for the guests not the people partying. if you feel like staying up listening to people partying all night this is the place but if you want to go to bed anytime before midnight, I say stay somewhere else I really wish i wasnt stuck here ghost tour ok most of staff excellent it's so loud in my room that even with the TV on I can hear the music from the wedding. I just feel like crying maybe they will give me a blanket so i can sleep in my car

Yelp
What a beautiful hotel. The staff was great. Nice ice cream in the afternoon. The bell service was excellent. Gavin took care of us when we arrived and departed. What a great young man. He represented the Crescent perfectly. Can wait to come back.

Yelp
Husband and I had our honey moon here in 2009. Back then the hotel had been really ran down, stank on room carpet, there is and always will be that alcohol odor in the rooms on the floors. The floors were and are constantly dirty. Fast forward: Finally, now today, they have raised the banister due to having past accidents. The stairwell railing have always been too low until they raised them. So be careful!! The stairs are a mess... and they need better support! Each hotel room floor staircase has a slant which makes it very hard to walk up or down... I have had problems walking these -and no I was not inebriated. The hotel altogether has a musty odor.. walls chipping paint, and less than stellar service. The reason I know this, because I took a ghost tour, for $28 plus extra fees.. for myself, husband and older daughter.. they charged me full price for my 11 year old son, tickets sell out quick for children 5-12 and still charge you full price for the child at ADULT admission. I miss the man who used to be a tour guide here. He was authentic and personal due to his grandma once worked there way back when. He was a sensitive and truly cared about giving the "ghost walk tours." The charm has worn out.

Yelp
We had a reservation here for a stop on our way home from a longer vacation. We had an accident on the vacation and had to drive straight through to go home and cancel the reservation. They refused to return the money despite our situation. Additionally, we had reserved it at full price, yet they were sending us email deals for the same date for about half price. They kept it all. I understand this could boil down to business practice but it just left a bad taste in our mouth. As a result of this practice, we are likely done with Eureka Springs as a whole.

Yelp
My son and me had a great time here we stayed in one of the haunted rooms besides, our bags getting moved to the door and it getting really cold in the room. My son was convinced the room was haunted which I'm skeptic of but we had a great time and it's such a beautiful hotel.

Yelp
the hotel is grand. Beautiful woodwork in the lobby and the staff are helpful. we stayed in the south penthouse (501) and it is a glorified attic. it has no distinct architectural style or decor but worse is that it is rundown and unkempt. the fabric on the couch is dirty and the vent in the ceiling is covered In a dark dust. the tv's in the room were haphazardly installed and the microwave and fridge are in the bathroom. the wallpaper in the stairs is ripped and so dated . it doesn't seem that they are concerned. the staff is nice and the view is beautiful

Yelp
Love the Crescent for its rich history! Staff there have always been amazing, friendly and willing to help you with whatever you need. Definitely try the pizza at the top of the hotel. Fantastic! And the adult beverages are great too. Try to get a seat on the balcony, the view is awesome.

Yelp
What happened to this town? We visited 15 years ago and Eureka Springs was a vibrant community. Not anymore! The ghost tour at the Crescent was one of the most authentic experiences we'd had (as far as ghost tours go). This time around it was a HUGE letdown! They decked out the morgue with cheesy Halloween decorations and there was no mention of the many ghost hunting shows that have visited. They are now allowing very young kids on the tour and they allow them to run around with annoying beeping EMF readers. For roughly $30 PP for an hour's tour (we had seven in our party) I felt as though this was a big rip-off. This wasn't scary in the least. We won't be back. So sad.

Yelp
A wonderful place highly recommended, everyone's so helpful and friendly they found out that we accidentally got tickets for the wrong ghost tour the one downtown they hooked us up with a free tour and having drinks while we wait

Yelp
We called this morning 11/2/2023 for a couples massage. We were told to be there 15 minutes early for a 4:30pm couples 1 hour massage. We arrived at 4:05pm. We live locally. Both massage therapists arrived at 4:35pm. When we were shown to our massage room my lady asked me how I liked my massage. I said I like a "Deep Tissue" massage. My massage person said that it would be an up charge for the "Deep Tissue". I said that a regular massage would be fine! The massage therapist then began the massage by barely touching my feet. I have never had a massage that begins with your feet. After about 12 minutes of barely touching my feet I sat up and said this was not a massage! I will never go back to get a massage from this place!

Yelp
Neat place but overpriced and noisy - "ghost tours" outside our room every night from about 6:00pm until after 10:30. The rooms "feel" a little dirty, the fridge was sitting on the floor. I can say I've stayed here but I won't again.

Yelp
Definitely THE iconic hotel in Eureka Springs with stunning views of the Arkansas Ozarks. We went just before Halloween for the "haunted" experience (including the ghost tour) and the fall foliage was just stunning. As for the hotel, I will state the obvious. It's old...very old. So think dark, one old elevator, 4 flights of stairs, very small rooms unless you purposely book one of the fancier suites. Even with updates as the hotel can modernize, there is only so much space to work with. We booked a two bedroom with a balcony and quite enjoyed the balcony to sit on (although not private as your neighbors are separated only by a divider. The fireplace in the lobby is delightful on cold nights. If you prefer a firm mattress and pillows that's what you'll get. If you're into big fluffy comfy pillows and beds, you will not sleep well in this hotel. Staying at the Crescent is more about the experience than comfort. If you're looking for comfort, you'll want to find something more modern in Eureka. We did the Ghost Tour since it was Halloween season and that was fun. Be prepared to tip at the end, they are not bashful about asking. There is also an envelope to tip housekeeping in your room, and not related to the review but a musician at a restaurant was also asking for tips so by the end of the stay in Eureka I gathered it is local culture that tourists tip for any service, even one you didn't ask for (like the music at the Balcony Restaurant I didn't care for). I also enjoyed some spa services while staying at the Crescent but that's a different review. A Eureka favorite restaurant, Ermelio's, is also within walking distance which is nice because parking in Eureka is a challenge to put it mildly.

Yelp
The history of this place speaks for itself and they've done a great job of preserving it in time. We staying in an annex jacuzzi room on the 2nd floor. Initially I had booked south penthouse but, when we checked in we were given a different room. Luckily for us the annex was actually better in our opinion than the penthouse room looked online. Just a heads up because there are a somewhat limited amount of rooms in the hotel and based on reviews this happens a bit. (It appeared during our exploring that they were making repairs to the south penthouse so fair enough) The other thing to take note of is the museum like atmosphere of the hotel. If you stay there expect people to be walking through the hotel looking around or doing ghost tours until the curfew sets. It didn't bother us but just a heads up! We actually stayed here the night before our wedding and they were so helpful and accommodating of our needs with transportation and late check out. It was a super cool experience and I'm glad we checked it out. Overall it was one of the coolest places we've ever stayed and the customer service was on point! The lights flickered in our room once but other than that we were ghost free.

Yelp
We went to lunch in the Pizza parlor/bar on the fourth floor. When we were seated, no menu was offered. We waited for some time. A gentleman walked in. The waitress hustled in to wait of him. When she finished taking his order, she came to our table and then had to go get menus. We finally got to order--and then we waited, and waited,. The gentleman received his order, finished his meal and left. We waited. Another party, 2 men and a women came in. The waitress appeared and took their order. We waited. Their order came out. We then finally received our order. There was a large group of women having a birthday party. I observed them twice go hunt down the waitress when they needed drinks refilled or something. This is the S.O.P at this restaurant. Women, if you go there, prepare for long waits or be sure to be accompanied by a man.

Yelp
The grounds are absolutely stunning - great views and beautiful landscaping. The staff is very friendly, especially in the Crystal Dining Room. And the on-site activities and free shuttle to downtown were a nice perk. Unfortunately, most of our other experiences and observations did not meet expectations. The hotel is known as a haunted hotel, so ghost tours are offered. Unfortunately for us, the ghost tours stopped right outside of our room. So for 4 solid hours each night, we would hear the stories and laughter from the groups right outside our door (and there is no noise buffer with this old hotel). We took the tour ourselves one night and found it very boring. The majority of the tour consisted of the guide showing us blurry photos other guests had taken. I had hoped for interesting history and stories, but what little of that existed in the tour was told in a lackluster fashion. In addition to the noise from the tours, our room on the third floor sounded as if there was a bowling alley above us. All night, we heard tremendously loud noises and crashes. The kitchen to the Skybar may have been above us accounting for the noise. It quickly made sense why a seemingly random box fan was left in the room. Using that each night was the only way we were able to get any sleep. There are on-site dining options, but none of them were terribly impressive. The breakfast in the Crystal Dining room was absolutely disgusting. Dinner there is okay, but way overpriced. If there's a wedding (which there was during our stay), they close down the Crystal Dining room. The Skybar had decent food, but terrible service and a long wait if you wanted to be seated out on their balcony instead of in the grimy bar area. The rooms are equipped with miniature fridges, but no microwave. There is a communal microwave on the first floor. Our fridge froze and then thawed, seeping tons of water all over the carpet and soiling a pair of shoes. This went unresolved and left a foul odor in our room the entire stay. There is only one elevator and it is extremely slow. One night, it broke. I went to the front desk to alert them, but the staff did nothing - no sign, no action - nothing. The most disappointing aspect, however, was just how little care the interior of the hotel was given. Many have noted it is run down and that is accurate. I was expecting the charm of a historic site, but this place is gross and extremely poorly kept. Simple paint touch ups, reupholstering, and carpet cleaning would have made the aesthetic feel much improved. Instead, it seemed in disrepair and many elements were unclean. Cleanliness should never be an issue! At check-in, they asked if we wanted room refreshes (basic housekeeping expected during a hotel stay) and we said yes. I saw the staff mark it down on their sheet, even. But during our 3 night stay, no one ever came to refresh our room.

Yelp
We had a fun stay in this once-grand hotel (could now use a little upkeep and TLC) with a sordid history, and a variety of activities that they host out on the grounds. But the only activity we partook of were a fun little wine tasting, and the ghost tour. (Well, I got the ghost tour... my wife got the ghost!) This hotel is known as "the most haunted hotel in America" and, quite frankly, has a crazy, fascinating, and sordid history even if you DON'T count the paranormal. It starts as a retreat for those seeking the therapeutic waters of the natural springs, followed by a stint as a girls' college, then a particularly creepy era as a quack cancer cure "hospital" and asylum. Given the rich history and many ghost stories of the area, I decided to take a ghost tour (why not?), but my wife declined, saying she knew it was just going to be a bunch of cheesy jokes and made-up stories. So she stays in the room (322), watching TV. At 9:02 pm, I receive a text from her: "Well, I think I just saw a ghost and now feel creeped out." When I get back to the room, eager to share the stories I had heard, Sarah looks.. well... like she had seen a ghost. I ask her what she saw. She says "A woman. In a white dress. I saw her in the window... she seemed to be walking past the room, so I thought nothing of it... until I remembered we are on the 3rd floor and there is nothing to walk on outside." The hairs on my arms stood on end. One of the stories I had been told on the tour was of a honeymoon couple that had stayed in the room in that wing (near ours -- in what used to be the asylum) who refused to stay the night after waking her husband up and claiming there was a woman in the room. A "woman in white."

Yelp
This is a very unique and beautiful old and historic hotel. The grounds are beautiful! The ghost tour was very fun and interesting with a well versed guide. The Balcony restaurant has a beautiful view!! And great pizza!!

Yelp
If you're looking for a clean room, comfortable mattress, a good night sleep, this is not the place. If you're looking for a place with great activities to keep the family (including dog(s) busy, heated pool, live music, outdoor games, indoor games, walking trails, free shuttle anywhere in town, wonderful lobby with great fireplace and comfy couches for good conversations, history tour, ghost tour, spa, outdoor hot tub, rooftop bar with great drinks and pizza, great ballroom with delicious meals, candle making, then this is the perfect place. We did not know that this hotel is considered the most haunted house in America. With that said, if that's your thing, this is your place. We had room 409 (no ghosts). Walls are dark green, dust is thick, carpet is sticky (bring house shoes), old-timey antique coil-spring mattress squeaks with every move. The antique claw foot tub is peeling paint. It wasn't easy to control the temperature. We had a mini fridge, one chair, TV, large dresser drawer, no balcony but very very spacious room. The hallway to the room was a bit spooky...dark, dreary. There was only one extension cord, so we had unplug it from the lamp to use it for the c-pap. Staff is super friendly and helpful. We came for Thanksgiving and the buffet feast was good. This place would get 5 stars if it were clean.

Yelp
I really enjoyed our stay here. The fam and I went to merely tour the hotel as I'm a big chicken. Upon arriving the staff was very gracious and accommodating. We went up to their terrace to have lunch and all was delicious and we had a great view of the Christ of the Ozarks too! Then as we were about to leave we decided to see about getting a room and then the trip got REAL good! The rooms had the old school skeleton key! The rooms were definitely set to the time frame yet comfy. The bathrooms had the BEST shampoo and conditioner! I went down to the spa to try and purchase some but they didn't carry the same ones. Our kids ordered room service for breakfast but my hubby and I went down to their dining area and LOVED our breakfast it was delicious. This hotel reminded me of the one in the shining lol. There's so much to love about this hotel. If you like historical and haunted places this is a must if not stay away! If you want to add to the fun read this story prior to staying here: http://www.scaryforkids.com/keyhole/ Because of this story I didn't sleep a wink!!!

Yelp
The Crescent made me feel like I had stepped back into an entirely different era. This hotel has been on my short list of places to visit for quite some time. The grounds were beautifully kept. The staff was incredibly friendly. The spa was nice. And the ghost tour was interesting. The town of Eureka Springs itself is the perfect setting for the Crescent. Built on the side of a mountain, all roads lead to the top, which is were the Crescent is situated, like a beacon, overlooking all of the beautiful Ozarks. There is a resident kitty (plus one ghost kitty), a spa, a restaurant, and daily scheduled activities. Someone told me there are more weddings here than anywhere else. (That part I could do without- I'm glad I was here during the middle of the week and didn't have to see any obnoxious wedding guests). If you are interested in reading my ghost tour review, check out phantommemorandum.com for my full account. It was well organized, and there are quite a few tours that operate each night. They have a well-greased machine, and the tours are done in an organized fashion with knowledgeable guides. Also, as an added bonus, if you check in on yelp, you get a small discount off of your room if you are there during a weekday. I thoroughly enjoyed my two nights here, and would highly recommend the Crescent to everyone wanting a unique, historic, and fun experience.

Yelp
Such a fun stay. I went on the ghost tour and booked a room. There is so much history in this building, it is absolutely beautiful. And the story behind the building, the ghosts and the architecture is an experience I truly enjoyed. I will definitely be back, gonna bring my brother with me to ghost hunt next time!

Yelp
This was 3rd I've been in town. Last two times was for Bikes Blues & BBQ.Never really knew it was there. You just don't run across hotels or town like this very often. Well worth seeing if your in the area. People we talked to did ghost tour at night & said it was very intense.

Yelp
My husband and I spent a weekend there. The lobby displayed all of the gorgeous architecture you would expect for an historic hotel. But the quality of our room was horrible. Dark paint with dark wood made it very dark. The overhead light with a burned out bulb didn't help. Bathroom floor tile was cracked and covered with glue. There was no counter space. The reading lamp as broken. The charge station for electronics didn't work. One of the drapes was off the rod. Major chunks of paint were peeling off the woodwork. Lead paint? I paid extra for a balcony and had a view of the parking lot. food options were limited. And forget using the internet in the room. It didn't work. And whatever happened to housekeeping service? We will never go back.

Yelp
We heard about this historic old hotel and the Ghost Tours they have so we had to stop and see it. It's not fancy, but, it's an old cool historic hotel. You can go in and get all the information on the tours from the front desk. Stroll around the lobby and see the old photos and artifacts. You can also see the dining Room, where Willie Nelson played, on one end and a beautiful Conservatory on the other. If you have time you can have a drink at the bar or go out on the back porch and sit in the rockers. We were not able to stay this time but, we hope to return soon and we will book a room there for sure.

Yelp
Most haunted hotel in America, now that's a claim to fame (haunted tour cost $29 BTW) We stayed here one night and it reminded me of a shabby Palmer hotel in Chicago, lots of old world patina but with varyingly successful degrees of renovation over the decades. This place has a long and interesting history and the place shows it. Some points about the stay; the rooms are large, but the A/C / Heater is a window unite and somewhat noisy in my room, it all seemed clean enough, my mattress and bedding only ok but there is no shortage of flocked wallpaper, history and sense of time gone by. There is also a car service to drive you downtown or to a local restaurant for free. Our driver referred to the place as a wedding factory and you can see that, its all geared toward that experience. The pool is fairly modern and the grounds very nicely kept. There is a very nice breakfast service you can buy into as well that we all enjoyed. A family could have a good experience here I think as there is lots to do in town and on the grounds.

Yelp
Arrived at the Crescent and checking in wasn't so bad. The lady that checked my family in was helpful and nice. But as the day went on, and we got into our room. We noticed the temperature in the room and it was suffocating in there. Wasn't sure if turning the temp up or down did anything and it didn't. So my family went down to make a complaint and they made it seem as if it was our fault that the room temp was hot. It wasn't. Their AC didn't work and they started suggesting a fan. $350 for a room for one night and your A/C doesn't work? It's some bullshit that's what it is. About 3 hours go by in our room, and the air kept getting hotter. Got my money back finally but I won't be staying again. I'll admit it was pretty and the hotel was nice but their a/c was bullshit and how they treated us about the temp was bullshit too.

Yelp
I really tried to be positive during this trip. It started out as a 5 and slid into a 2 by the time we left. I have a more detailed review on trip advisor. Long story short, keep in mind that the rooms are small and not the Ritz. The restaurants and room service are a solid 3. The views, parking (the fact there is), and shuttle service into town are a 5. Throw in a little nostalgia and you have a great weekend. Unfortunately, our ceiling leaked during a rainy day and we came back to find water running out of the TV power button (the remote would not turn it on so I tried the button), And my wife's luggage full of clothes was so wet you would have thought someone threw it in the pool. We were moved to a smaller room, promised a 20% credit for our entire bill (because they charge you for the entire stay at check-in), and told there was a laundry mat in town out of the shuttles range.... We still tried to be positive but have not seen the promised credit.

Yelp
Overall a very unique experience. A lot to do on site, including eating, fun activities, and beverages in the crystal ballroom. Check in was quick and easy, arrived at 2:30 and they had our room ready for us so we got in early. The downfall for me was the sound that could be heard from the hallways. People in the hallways could be heard easily, I know there's not much you can do to fix that in an extremely old building. The beds were really springy. I'm not sure I really truly slept all night and woke up really sore. We did do the ghost tour, which was fun and informative. The waiter at breakfast did seem surprised that I didn't sleep well, so I'm not sure if I had an old bed or something. But if you plan on getting a good nights sleep in room 228, you won't.

Yelp
Italian resturant in hotel I would recommend to skip this restaurant altogether. If you like canned spaghetti then you will love this restaurant however. The portions are generous.

Yelp
Due to the condition it's not a hotel I would ever stay in. For the ghost tour we had a few intense and terrifying experiences. Reba was our tour guide. She has been leading tours for less than a year, but was very knowledgeable on the 7 ghosts and history. Room 419 we visited earlier in the day and had weird feelings and my wife got goosebumps. The selfie we took at the door showed a weird blue haze above our heads. After the sun set we took the tour. We had a crazy experience at room 218. The ghost here is Michael, a 17 year old kid who fell to his death and hit a beam under the room. A couple on the tour were actually staying the room. They had the window in their room open once, then they closed and locked them only to have them open again. Before the tour they closed them. The couple claimed to know nothing about Michael. They volunteered to let the tour see their room and we all witnessed the window open again. And the most intense experience was in the meat locker in the morgue. My wife was much more brave than me and volunteered with 4 other people to stay in the locker with the doors closed. All 5 of the people saw multiple orbs- a few white and one green. They also felt something brush against their shoulders. They had photos to prove the story of the orbs. I have always been a skeptic about ghosts and spirits. I believe there is a scientific explanation for all this (EMF, Gravity, Pressure, poor construction, etc), but several people on the tour experienced the same things as us. This place is a hard one to "debunk."
