"Criterion, Downtown Durham. Around the office, we don’t call it Criterion. Affectionately, it’s “Cheers,” where everybody knows your name. We love the vibe of this place. Why? Because it’s a classic bar. No frills. Great bar tenders that literally know us by name. Dark wood flooring, booths to sit in with your buds, and a great beer list. When the weather is nice and it’s not 97 million degrees in Durham, camp out at a picnic table near the street."
Had a drink here before Dave Chappelle's show at the Carolina Theatre. Has a nice, old school "dark" bar atmosphere with good beers and service. Very laid back.

Nice bar with a cool look with old style booths you'd see in an Irish or British pub. Beers were good and not too expensive and the barman friendly. Not much more I need from a bar. The wall of bottles is also a cool design touch.

Great place and even better 3$ beer special. Bartender was very cool. Great place to spend some time drinking and relaxing.

I brought two friends to this bar and had a great experience. The bar was pretty busy and there wasn't a whole lot of seating. Once we finally got a booth to sit at, the evening was much more enjoyable. I really enjoyed the beer that I ordered and the atmosphere. My friend and I sat for several hours just chatting and were not approached by anyone the entire evening (this is preferred!!)

Great looking bar! But the bartender was emotionless and snooty. Great looking speakeasy feel.

Always an interesting beer selection with a cool, laid back vibe. Fair prices, good beer selection, and outdoor seating when the weather is good. Check out upstairs if it's open.
Extra positivity for Jeff. Jeff is a great bartender, he remembers customers, and is pretty cool. He will help you pick a drink with no pressure and plays good music. I like Jeff. You'll like Jeff. If you don't like Jeff, I don't like you.

Nice bar right downtown in Durham. The wood paneled ceiling and high topped booths make for a sort of "old world" charm and remind me of the British pubs I frequented when I lived in London. The free to play pool table makes for good entertainment on a quiet weeknight. Only one TV which is a plus in my mind, but not great if you're a sports fan. One downside is that the beer selection was not terribly diverse. There was a with a long list of IPAs and stout, but little else. I could easily see this bar getting quite crowded and the extra kegs laying around in the back near the pool table didn't help make the most of the narrow space. Overall a good bar and worth a stop if you want somewhere to have a casual pint and catch up with friends.

It has a lovely look, and a good beer menu on tap but no mixed drink menus to speak of. The bar tender was extremely slow to even acknowledge two new people at the bar, and it wasn't even busy. If they couldn't get to us right away that's fine, but passing by four times without even glancing is... not the sign of an attentive bartender.
With the general feel of the place, one would hope for a more satisfying experience.
They're relatively new, so I'll give them another try or two but it was a poor first experience, unfortunately.
