I drove all the way from Mass to come test out what I was told is some of the best soul food around. It started off pretty dicey with waitress attitude accommodating a large party and having to wait for a couple of people to party but once the food came out it was like her whole souls shifted and was great! The food itself was amazing. The manager sent over an extra cornbread app due to us waiting which was nice. The cornbread itself is something to write home about except the app was over powered by the cherry juice it was much better on the meals without it. The fish and chickens were well seasoned. The sides were huge and delicious (specifically the Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes). The fish had bones which caught me off guard but didn’t affect the flavor and the portions. At first I was not happy reading the prices on the menu but then the portions came out and made much better sense. I walked away impressed and happy and with left overs which is always a good sign!!

Great food awesome bartender who was our waitress. Corn bread was the best I ever had and a huge portion wife had the salmon said it was the best she ever had. Collard green and cheese grits amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant. Don't miss it

Me & my family came here for lunch & the food was absolutely incredible. The fettuccine Alfredo & chicken tender meal were our favorites. You should come here just for the garlic bread & corn bread! The portions were very large, so you’ll definitely need a to-go box! 😂 The service is great, as well as the atmosphere. The location is decent and easy to get to. Overall I loved my time here and will definitely be back! ❤️

I went on Tuesday (June 3rd) for dinner by myself. The service was impeccable!! From the hostess who gave me the option of booth or bar(thinking the bar I would take up less space) even though I was alone to my waiter/bartender Josh who was attentive and pleasant to the manager who was also attentive. The food and drinks were top notch! Thank you for everything!

My husband ,grandson and I drove 3 hours to dine and enjoy some soul food we both love traveling for food and are senior truck drivers. I was disappointed everything was nasty or tasteless the cornbread was they only thing we actually liked the greens would’ve been good only if it’s wasn’t over salted. My grandson chicken was over cooked and rubbery which is always displeasing. My husband fish had no seasoning at all I found it very suspicious that black folks would sell that kind of food any way.My food was mid grade I had crab cakes salad and yams everything was mid.The lemonade had big seeds causing you to spit. The horrible seating people bumping into constantly it was very annoying.I wanted to like this place but it’s a hard NEVER again for me.

Y’all… words can’t even do this place justice. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for something special. The food? Hands down the best I’ve had in a long time—every bite was a flavor bomb. The service? Spot-on. Friendly, attentive, and just the right amount of laid-back. The vibe was the perfect balance: one side gave “quiet date night” while the other said, “let’s celebrate!” Whether you’re in the mood for romance or a good time with friends, this spot has you covered. Major kudos to the owner, the amazing staff, and most importantly, the Chef Extraordinaire. You can taste the love and creativity in every dish. Solid 10/10. I’ll be back—and bringing everyone I know.

All my love to a classic local Black owned, soul food staple. Reminds me of all the food I grew up on while giving a new twist to some familiar dishes and offering a variety of soul food dishes based outside of southern Virginia. They are not stingy or shy with the portions. When you go on the weekends, ask for Jasmine. She'll get you right, provides great conversation & service, and will make sure you feel right at home

Google
This was my 2nd time here and 1st time for brunch! The food was so disappointing. I had salmon cakes that came out of the can and had no seasonings. Also, im not sure why they are called the Crocker spot and they don't even sell Croaker fish!🤥 The only good thing washout server was very nice and very good at her job. My cousin and I will not be back!

Yelp
I had the best service this year right at Croaker Spot. I came with my mom for a girls night out and we had such a great time. Our server, Josh, was so pleasant and answered all of our questions. I asked for a few recommended dishes and he did not disappoint. Our food was amazing. We ordered the seafood platter and could not eat all of it in one sitting. The scallops and shrimp were so delicious. The fish was fried to perfection. The Mac n cheese was worth the up charge. The greens were tasty. We enjoyed the cornbread. We wanted dessert but were too full to even think about it. This is definitely a southern restaurant with amazing cooks. Oh, the uptown, the half tea and lemonade was amazing!!! We will be back!!

Yelp
Horrible Hostess: Saturday july 13, at approximately  1:15pm.  I had a party of 5 and was told it would be a 45 min wait to be seated. So i asked if we could break up the party and be seated separately because I have a 99 yr elderly lady that we were celebrating her turning 99 at your restaurant could not stand for 45 mins. I asked the hostess if we could have a booth in which 3 were available at the time and was told no because if we separated us it would be 2 at one table and 3 at the other which we agreed to. The Hostess said she could not seat us at a  booth due to there being only 3 people but when you first walked in the door there was a  booth that only had three people sitting at it. Then she told me if I was not comfortable I could go to the Petersburg location.  I traveled from Raleigh NC to take out the Matriarch of our family that has lived 9 decades and you going to tell me to go to your other location in this heat, that is 26 miles away:  I told her if i wanted that location i would have went there:  She will not dictate to me where to spend my money plus she is not aware of my circumstances.  She has a nice nasty attitude. I could have been a food critic, your food could be the best in the world but the service sucks. That is like giving me food on a dirty trash can.  Which is unacceptable. Businesses should try to accommodate their customers  but you do not have to worry about that anymore, that's $250 + Tips  your hostess cost your establishment. Your staff should be taught when they're talking about your customers, do so in a manner that the customer does not know that they're the topic of conversation.  The only pleasant person was the waitress that tried to serve us at the table of 3: To the Owner: The hostess offered the chance to speak to the manager but stated she was going to tell me the same thing. The  reason for the request for the booth was for my elderly Aunt being  uncomfortable in open spaces, so we just wanted her to be comfortable and to enjoy the food. I could have cared less where we sat. I feel like I was basically ordered by your hostess where we were going to sit, and if you don't like it, leave, so I left. I refused to be disrespected as soon as I walked in the door. That is not good customer service.  You might want to change the face of your business.

Yelp
My wife & I tried this restaurant, for the first time yesterday, for lunch and it was great!!! I had the Ultimate Feast & my wife had the Shrimp & Grits & boy was it tasty & plentiful! The service was great too! Many thanks to Jamela! The overall atmosphere was comfortable & inviting, no lines or crowds, even at lunch time. Also do not leave without looking at the variety of dessert cakes they have too!

Yelp
UPDATE.... I have not received a verbal or written correspondence but I did leave a message on the corporate voicemail. They refunded the difference. Thank you for the learning experience. As I am traveling and I did not follow my usual protocol usi g a specific credit card and writing tip on table on my receipt. Most of all thank you for valuing your customers to remedy an issue. Be blessed.

Yelp
The restaurant it's self is comfy and cozy. We sat at the bar and had plenty of room to eat and enjoy ourselves. Our seafood was cooked to order so it took a little time to get to us. The salmon was amazing and the catfish was fried to perfection. The sides weren't that great but the entree made up for it.

Yelp
Went here once when I was in VA for a concert and have been wanting to go on a lil trip just to get this food n eat it in a park n explore was literally so good omg. Food service and ambiance were all *GREAT*. It was pretty empty for me because I went at a weird hour so the waitress was able to stop and talk and she was so nice! I had fried fish and corn bread and something else and it was all cooked and seasoned perfectly like bro I wish I could eat it rn. Sometimes I just b thinking about it....

Yelp
Today we had Croakers spot come to my work with their food truck. I have never been to their actual location before so I figured I would try it today! I got a fish and shrimp platter with collard greens and steamed cabbage. The entire thing was delicious and the 3 people who came to work the truck today were awesome. They also gave me a sweet peach tea with mint leaves and lemon and it was the BEST sweet tea I have ever had. Loved the entire thing. Everything was seasoned great and had flavor. I hope they come back!

Yelp
Everything was delicious. The bartender, I think her name was Iliza made the best Arnold Palmer I have ever had, their version is called an uptown, and superb customer service. I will definitely be a returning customer.

Yelp
Keshawna was our waitress at the Richmond location; she took great care of us. The food is always AMAZING- generous portions. I am a repeat customer, I will visit again and again and again. I brought family with me. It's been two days since our visit and they are already asking me when we can go to Croaker Spot again

Larry T.

Yelp
The wait time was an 1/12.The food was horrible, The chicken was dry,The Mac and cheese tasted like dog food. The only good thing is the cornbread.

Yelp
I didn't experience the "magic" that prompted the 4-star reviews. I arrived to find only the takeaway area open but shook my surprise off and ordered quickly. My shrimp po boy was ready in about 15 minutes but turned to mush while waiting an additional 30 minutes for fish and grits. Meanwhile the staff chattered among themselves nonstop and at top volume about nonsense. At $40 for a takeout lunch, this was too homespun for me. I prefer more efficiency, speed, professionalism, courtesy and customer service awareness. I won't be back and I don't recommend.

Yelp
Food was really good as usual! Wonderful service!! Love the look of the building! Drinks on point!!!

Yelp
Amazing!!! If you're looking for a hardy meal in Richmond this is the restaurant!!! The food was served HOT and flavorful! The collard greens were very tasty! On the menu you can get grilled on blackened salmon. I chose to get blackened. It was very good. Well seasoned. Not to salty. I also loved the corn bread. There is more than enough good to have left overs. I also had a sweet tea (not pictured). The service was also very good. The waiter knew the menu and recommended food items that accommodated every guest.

Yelp
I was taken to Croaker's spot for lunch prior to heading to the airport. This was a highly recommended soul food restaurant, so I definitely wanted to give it a try. The restaurant is located in a interesting area that I probably wouldn't want to be in after dark, but parking was available close to the restaurant, so there was no issues there. Upon entering, it was not busy hostess status immediately, and gave us menus to review, before ordering, I did look around the restaurant and really admired the architecture of the building. It was a very old lifestyle, but the wood frame was beautiful. after reviewing the menu, I decided to get the fried chicken meal, which everything was tasteful aside from the macaroni and cheese, which was greasy and lower quality cheese causing it to stick to the noodles. Food did come out fairly quickly and fresh. Menu is more on the pricey side but serving size definitely makes up for it.

Yelp
Yum! I enjoyed trying Croakers Spot! It was so hard to decide what to get because there were so many appealing options on the menu. Food - Mac and cheese ($9 for a large side): Not my favorite. It's decent but has a gritty texture and didn't wow me. Also not a huge serving for $9. Fried oysters ($17.50): We got 1/2 dozen fried oysters. These came served with more than 6 pieces so I'm assuming the oysters were cut up into smaller pieces then fried. Came with coleslaw and horseradish sauce. The oysters were alright but I found that they were breaded and fried so heavily that I didn't get to enjoy the actual oysters inside very much. I liked the horseradish sauce and the coleslaw was delicious! Fried seafood platter ($35.50): Comes with fried fish, 4 fried butterfly shrimp, 2 crab cake medallions, peppers/onions, cabbage, cornbread, cheesy grits, "special sauce" (which I'm pretty sure was just tartar sauce), and cocktail sauce. We opted for catfish as the fried fish ($3 upcharge - which we were not informed of but not a big deal) over the whiting fish. The fried catfish was DELICIOUS! Seasoned nicely and cooked to perfection. It was very fresh tasting and soft - not dried out at all. The butterfly shrimp, similarly to the oysters, were breaded too much for my taste. Doesn't allow you to actually enjoy the shrimp as much. Crab cake medallions were good but somewhat dry, maybe over cooked a bit. Peppers and onions served for the fish were yummy. The cabbage was not my favorite. Grits were pretty good except the cheddar on top tasted like pre-shredded grocery store cheese. The cornbread was AWESOME! Service/ambiance: Everyone who worked there was friendly, and although we came for a very late lunch it did get quite busy while we were there. At times it was loud enough that I couldn't hear our server very well. There was also a mildew-y smell in the corner we were sitting in. However I also enjoyed looking around and enjoying all the beautiful art in the restaurant. The bathroom was clean, and there were two gender neutral restrooms. I'll be back to try more of their menu offerings in the future.

Yelp
Great experience. Feels like I am eating a good country meal at grandmas . Portions ate large, food is flavored well. The fish bowl I ordered was covered in cheese. It was good, but the fish was bonefish. It wasn't clear in the description that there were going to be bones. The description said fillet. The sides were delicious. We had cabbage, greens and Mac and cheese. The waitress brought out an impressive tray of yummy desserts. Will definitely be back to try other items.

Yelp
Every time we come here, the food is always on point! I always order a limeade for my drink. And I always get me some type of dessert to leave. I've never had a bad experience with any of the staff, they are always so helpful and friendly.the ambience is OK I normally sit in a booth, but sometimes we do sit at a table and either one is fine. We have gone here for casual dining, and also date night and have never been let down!

Lindella J.

Yelp
Service is great the food is delicious. We was having our family reunion on July 20. Richmond and we decided to take some of the family members to your restaurant. Croaker's were very nice putting together the tables and cleaning up and sweeping up around the tables and making everything all nice and perfect for us. The service was amazing. The food tasted so excellent great food. The manager walked over the floor and came as she did talk to us to make sure that we were OK and asked us if we needed anything. Please let her know and the dessert was so delicious all the food was you got more than enough cornbread, especially Taste just like cake. I would definitely go back again to this restaurant. They give great service. Great service table manners excellent service and great delicious food.. I will give this restaurant A+.

Koutnei B.

Yelp
When I say Jamela was an amazing server! I really have no words for how amazing the service was - and the food was beyond amazing! Very inexpensive and the portion sizes said opposite! The atmosphere was amazing! Very welcoming and friendly! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! And ask for Jamela , you won't be dissatisfied Kourt from Florida referred you!

Yelp
My coworkers this was a must try for a seafood lover like me! Not only was the food delicious but the service was phenomenal! When in Richmond, I will definitely be back! I only ordered the 2 pieced fried fish and it was massive. I couldn't finish it. The tartar sauce and cornbread were bomb and the fish was seasoned just right and delicious.

Yelp
Croaker spot never disappoints I took my bf here for a birthday dinner because he asked for seafood and instantly, I thought of Croaker Spot. Normally, there's a long wait but this time, we were seated right as we walked in, and that was perfect time. We ordered fish boats with fried potatoes, peppers and a hunk of the sweetest, moist and delicious cornbread. I could literally go just have a piece of that because its like a big old piece of cake. My daughter tried the mango lemonade, and let me tell you something.. THIS drink it so darn good, I mean, you just cant stop yourself from drinking it fast - and that is not a good idea because they are NOT free refills. $4 for this drink, but it is worth it, you just may want to go slow if you don't want to pay for a second one. My bf ordered a catfish dinner, and I was shocked to see how large the catfish portions were, most places give such small pieces but Croaker spot gave a generous amount of everything which made the expensive price less hard on my wallet. They gave me so much food, I was able to save half and eat it for lunch the following day.

Cierra L.

Yelp
First time here and I enjoyed my experience. I wish I could remember the waitresses name but she was very sweet and took good care of us. The fish looks just like the picture, perfectly brown and taste even better, the only reason why it's a 4 is because of the Mac and cheese. I was disappointed but the greens were good and so was the cabbage. I will be back the next time I'm in Richmond!

Angela D.

Yelp
I have no words for how delicious, fresh, wonderful food and experience! Everything was fantastic! Dessert was so so so good. This was my first visit to Croaker Spot in Richmond, VA and it was worth it! Our server, China was wonderful! She was professional, kind, and very attentive.
google avatar

Gerry M.

Yelp
Food was good and the portions were huge! I love my catfish! It's been awhile since I went down there and I need to go!
google avatar

Ike Isaac W.

Yelp
The food here is phenomenal. You better come with a hearty appetite because the portions are huge. The cornbread is to die for--it is like the very best birthday cake you have ever eaten. The staff is kind, engaging, and professional. They attend to your every need. If you don't leave here feeling like your stomach and soul have been sated, then you didn't order enough to eat!!
google avatar

Yelp
We went to Croaker spot last month expecting really good things, our expectations were not met. It took over an hour for us to get our food which was served lukewarm. My friend got oysters which were okay according to her, I got a fried fish platter that was really really bad, very oily, and flavorless. The fish was tough / chewy. Our waiter was extremely nice and apologetic for the long long wait, he tried to make up for the quality of the food but that did not help. Croaker spot has a very attractive environment for dining however the food is sub-par
google avatar

Shakira W.

Yelp
This. Is. It. This is the place. I visited this place a few years ago and decided to stop by again on my way down 95 south. It is still one of the best places I have eaten at for soul food. Period. The portions are very generous. The service is amazing. And the restaurant itself is a very warm and reminds me of the 50s era. The cornbread was a huge block and they have this glaze that you could drizzle over it. The catfish and shrimp were perfectly fried, not greasy and boasted with flavor. The greens melted in my mouth. The Mac and cheese was oh so good, not dry and cheesy how I like it. And the yams. Oh the yams....speechless. I walked out completely satisfied and of course, with to-go plates because there was plenty leftover from the meal. And don't forget to ask about their tartar and cocktail sauce that is their recipe only. You all HAVE to try this place. I can't come through Richmond and NOT stop by here if I have time.
google avatar

Nylah K.

Yelp
Every time I've been here I've had a great experience. The service is awesome and they definitely make you feel at home. They are very attentive and helpful while you dine. The music is great and they have old and new songs playing. The catfish was so good as well as the cabbage. This particular night I wasn't feeling the mac n cheese because it wasn't seasoned to my liking and the cheese was crumbly whereas I'm used to a baked macaroni or a roux. Everything else was delicious though. This is a must stop anytime I'm in Richmond.

Lisa M.

Yelp
We were in town for the day and this was recommended as a great spot for lunch. And he was right! Food was amazing (buffalo fish boat with a side of collard greens) and service was great. Crab cake starter was no fillers, all crab and yum! All the ladies did amazing job with our large group. And yes the food may take a few extra minutes but it's fresh and worth it! And I'm So excited to eat my leftovers.

Rhonda S.

Yelp
While visiting my sister we toured Richmond breathe taking views of the city when we were finish, we google places to eat even the tour guide gave us some places we came across Croker Spot we were very impressed with the food and the service very good portions and homemade lemonade and corn bread to top it off I had the shrimp alfredo with mushroom delicious. go to try them you will be glad you did. we were visiting from South Carolina.

Karen B.

Yelp
Service was amazing. Food was really good. The catfish was so juicy. I didn't care for the cabbage much by itself but i mixed it together with the greens and it was so good.
google avatar

Todd W.

Yelp
Hospitality off the charts! Hostess took me on a tour to artist studio whose art is displayed in the restaurant and directed me to several murals on buildings on the way. Brought me back to the restaurant with suggestions of what to order at the restaurant and to go. Wonderful experience away from home, but at home. The food was great too. Warning do not order the Ultimate Feast unless you're serious about eating. I tapped out with plenty of leftovers.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
I had a party of 4 and was provided a wait time of an hour. I did not have to wait long at all to be seated which was a plus. After being seated everything took extremely long including the drinks. After realizing what was taking place my party ordered immediately (as soon as the waitress came back). I enjoyed watching other parties arrive for their reservations or enter the restaurant, order, eat, and leave before I received my food. The overall service was basic at best. After waiting for and hour and a half I thought seafood platter would be fresh and hot and it was not. The freshest item on the plate was the cornbread. Granted the food does have good flavor which is why I still give them 3 stars.
google avatar

Ashleigh F.

Yelp
We came to this restaurant on a Saturday evening and had to wait about a hour for a table. We were texted when our table was ready. Once we were seated our server came over a short time later. There are several tables, booths and a bar inside of the business. Our server was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the fish boat with mac and cheese. There was a $2.50 up-charge to get the Mac and cheese instead of the mashed potatoes. The meal also comes with a huge block of cornbread. The fish that came in the fish boat was good but had tiny bones in it. The corn bread and Mac and cheese were good. Onions and peppers are served on the fish but I got them on the side. They were good and had a sweet taste as if there was a tomato sauce or something similar that they were cooked in. I did not eat them with my fish. There was a large portion of fish served with the meal.

Yelp
The food and atmosphere were amazing! Jamela provided phenomenal customer service and made our visit one to remember.

Fredricka S.

Yelp
Visited here for the 1st time and found the place to be nice and quaint. There is street parking. My family enjoyed their food. I found mine to be just ok which is why I took off 1 star. I would probably visit again.

Yelp
This was our first date night in our new city. The atmosphere was very nice. The music played in the background just loud enough that you could still have a conversation and not have to scream over it. Our server Yasmine was super sweat. The service was great, and even though it took a while, our food was delicious. Everything was cooked fresh, and you could tell. It all came to the table hot. We will be back.

Destiny A.

Yelp
Fantastic food! The mac n cheese was a religious experience and the corn bread was the best I've ever had, personally. Highly recommend!

Michael B.

Yelp
On the advice of our waitress, we got a sampler plate for $45. Yasmine gave us good advice and great service -- she could not have been sweeter. My wife is quite particular about crab cakes and she gave these a thumb's up. She knows, and makes good crab cakes. I focuses on the shrimp and scallops and whitting and all was fried well and tasty, especially the shrimp and scallops. The sides were all good too, with the collard greens and cole slaw standing out. It's a nice place with good food.

Yelp
Nice hearty soul food. Friendly staff. Quick Service. Family style intimacy. You should definitely stop by if you're in the area!

Micala P.

Yelp
Food & Service was great ! 10/10 . The servers and hostess were so welcoming and kind per usual !

Yelp
Food was GENUINE Southern soul food. A must to stop by and have take out. Rival for Savannah's Mrs. Wilk's Boarding house.

Saundra T.

Yelp
I usually go to the other location in Petersburg when I visit my uncle and the food is always delicious and plenty each time. I can't wait to go in a couple of weeks.

Yasmine R.

Yelp
This is the best seafood restaurant in Virginia. Everything' is made to order from scratch. They also don't sell beef or pork.
google avatar

Zenitta A.

Yelp
Food is always a winner. I had the fried catfish, collard greens, candid yams and of course, the corn bread. OMG. Delicious. We had take our but past experiences with service and seating are always pleasant.
google avatar

Teddy B.

Yelp
Everything was delicious as always and the server was super as well but the dessert menu options were slim... Please keep red velvet cake Year round
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from here tonight and it was not worth the $50 we paid. This was my shrimp salad... I literally had only 6 pieces. The rest was shredded lettuce. I wouldn't recommend a salad from here. The shrimp and fish were both just okay.

Nay W.

Yelp
Visited Croaker spot for lunch with my husband and needed to check emails. Pulled out my laptop and was told no wifi and no computer usage allowed!! This policy needs to change, Croakers doesn't carry a young crowd. No one wants to take videos or selfies, I needed to check something important for work. Ironically we're about to spend at least $100 on lunch yet I have to strain my eyes and check email on my phone. Will select somewhere else going forward. Otherwise Bartender, wait staff and service are amazing - 5 stars for the Bartender

Yelp
I finally made it! I've been wanting to visit Richmond for a while to check out Croaker's Spot and I finally got the chance. I went with a friend for lunch on Saturday. When we arrived, there was a 20 minute wait so they took my name and number down. They gave me a call when our table was ready. After being seated, our waitress came to take our drink order. I ended up getting the Uptown which is half lemonade and half sweet tea. One thing for certain, their sweet tea is super sweet. I love sweet tea but this was just a little too sweet for me. For my meal, I ordered the crab stuffed salmon which came with rice, cabbage, and a piece of cornbread. I got to try some of my friend's mac n cheese as well. The portions were huge and the food was delicious. My friend enjoyed their food as well and we would definitely go back. I don't have any complaints about the service. Our server was attentive and even topped off our glasses with more iced tea even though refills weren't free. Everything was great except I'd choose a different drink next time.
