Four issues here (1) It is sadly Disneyland-esque, even ending with forcing you through a gift shop to leave. (2) You can only go through with a guide, which IS informative, but, when the little tour is over you HAVE to leave, adios! Want to look longer at the crocodiles? Sorry, time to go. Want to spend more time with the parrots, nope, your time is up, tip your guide and get the heck out (via gift shop). The tour was maybe an hour, for some people it is enough I'm sure. (3) The animal habitats are FAR TOO SMALL and it is really sad!! A ton of animals crammed into each enclosure, it was sickening to me. And they rubberband baby crocs mouths shut so tourists can safely hold them. (then they take the band off) (4) I thought is was very expensive for a one hour experience, but, i was also glad to leave because it is depressing. After all, it is 1. a zoo, and 2. a Mexican zoo.
That said, here are the pros (1) it IS a place to see some tropical animals if you have not before, great for kids, though it is not a natural environment, and, (2) they have full time vets and sometimes take in animals that are injured and such, so they are doing some good works.
One reviewer said it is a rescue for crocs and snakes in the area. Not so. They DO sometimes take in animals that need rescue - but - they also BREED crocks. Not good. I was in Puerto Morelos for a month and learned quite a bit talking with the locals. This is not a place that is good to support.
A natural experience of this area's jungle is just down the road for a mere $10 at Yaax Che Jardin Botanico del Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marin (largest botanical gardens in mexico). You won't see crocs, but you'll see lots of other things and it is totally natural.
