Crocodile camp is an excellent option for safari at Talik gate and the Maasai Mara. Large army style tents right opposite the MM. comfy beds with nets. Private bathrooms. It is a bit rustic, not luxury, so the water does smell metallic, there is the odd power cut and the odd bit of wear and tear. We didn’t mind this at all as the full board meals were delicious, the staff excellent and the location fantastic. Our safari and tribe visit was organised from here. Our guide, Jonathan is a Maasai with 20 years experience and he gave us an exhilarating day to remember on the African plains. We will treasure our memories here forever. Thank you so much to Caleb for everything, particularly organising our onward travel back to Nairobi. You can wing it without organising if you are on a budget here. Highly highly recommend!

It is truly an experience to stay here. The staff is friendly, the food is nice. Go for a bigger tent if you have the choice and watch out for leaky mosquito nets. The water is pretty smelly there, but if you engage in the experience of camping directly next to the Masai Mara (and hippos/crocodiles) you can ignore this…

Do not stay at this camp. We stayed at crocodile camp for a few nights and booked a safari with them for two days. We gave crocodile camp money for the safari’s and they said they would provide us with their guides and car. We had a really bad experience doing the safari where our guide and our driver were fighting about direction for hours driving through the grass nowhere near a road, at this point we were definitely lost. They ended up getting mad at each other and the driver being upset started driving recklessly through a field of big boulders. This broke the car which broke down 2 minutes later. We had to wait for hours before being able to get picked up. This situation was going on for so long that we barely got to see any animals during our day which we paid a lot of money for. The biggest problem was how management dealt with the situation. We told them what happened and they treated us like we were lying. They told us we had to pay for the rescue car out of our own pocket because our guides didn’t call the right person to come rescue us. We felt we shouldn’t have to pay for their mistake. Instead of them dealing with their guides, they made US deal with them. They came in super angry and yelling at us. Meanwhile management was nowhere to be seen. We spent our whole night arguing with different people until we decided to go to bed. The camp never did anything to compensate us for the trouble they put us through and frankly I didn’t feel safe sleeping there that night. We left in the morning making sure we paid for all our accommodation and food. The only thing we didn’t agree on paying is the extra charge for the rescue car. Still can’t believe on how unprofessional management was with us. Truly a nightmare story.

-Vegan friendly -Friendly staff -Great service -Clean -Delicious food Highly recommend this place if you want something clean, next to the Masai Mara National Park, and on a budget. We stayed in a Deluxe Room with a view over the river and on the other side of the river we were able to see the wildlife. Don’t get scared by the hippos making noises in the middle of the night, if you wake up early you will be able to see them. Brian is an excellent host, and he arranged my transportation from Nairobi to Masai Mara, and 2 game drives safaris with a professional tour guide with a 4x4 land cruiser for me and my wife. They were every accommodating to my wife’s dietary needs and she was very impressed by the food. I would recommend to bring portable battery as the electricity in the tent is from 7 PM to 11 PM and from 5 am until sometime in the morning , bugs spray, flashlight as at night it gets very dark and Kenya Shilings as they don’t accept credit card or dollars. There is an ATM 5 min away from the camp. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a budget Safari as some hotels in the area cost hundreds of dollars more. Thank you Brian and your staff for an amazing time.

Welcoming staff, perfect location just outside the Talek gate and on top of a hypo pool. The food is humble but we asked the Chef for something special and got it. Very good value for money. The photo is of the sunrise as watched from the camp.

Jambo travelers! A piece of info about doing MAASAI MARA safari on your own... I want to share this since I thought safari rates were so high for backpacking budget that I wasn't going to be able to do it. But it is totally doable. My boyfriend and I (Argentina/Perú) just came back from there. We took a matatu from Nairobi CBD to Narok (500 Kes) and from there a shared car to Talek (800 Kes). Transport rates are inflated for mzungus but it is what it is.. In Talek we stayed at the Crocodile Camp where you can set up your tent for 1000 Kes per person. Although their military style tents with ensuit bathroom and hot shower are gorgeous and most of them are new. Look for Caleb, he runs the camp. Him, Bryan (whom I first connected with by phone), and their staff are very friendly and highly helpful! To head from Narok to Talek you'll need to cross the park and they would most likely make you pay another entrance fee just to cross. Make sure to contact Bryan or Caleb, they will help you process a special permit so you only pay the park fee on your safari day and not another one at the Sekenani entrance to head to the camp. The safari (12 hr game drive) costs $150 per car (not per person). Also a half day safari for $75 is available but highly suggest doing the full day. Crocodile Camp is right by the Talek entrance and in front of the river - hippos would be your neighbors and you'd have a prime view of the Massai Mara during your stay. We stayed five nights, four days and spent $241 in total (round trip public transport from Nairobi, camp, entrance fee, 12 hr safari, food not included). They have a restaurant. You can buy snacks at the Naivas supermarket in Narok across from the bus station. Good luck and fun travels!!

We stayed at Crocodile camp for an overnight trip to masai mara. It's a very quaint and nice camp to stay at if you are looking for budget options in the Mara. The tents are comfortable with attached bathrooms. The staff is super friendly and helpful.

It's such a good place to rest after a long day by car for SAFARI. At the arrival, some helping guys take all your luggage and bring them to your house. Beds are very very big (king size) and clean, bathroom are big. Towels and soap are provided every day. A little bit expensive but nice place. During the night, you will be able to eat all the animals nearby the camp, it's so amazing. Enjoy your time at Crocodile Camp!
