Crooked Billet

The Crooked Billet (Wimbledon) deserves a huge round of applause for hosting an amazing Christmas dinner for 36 of us. From start to finish, the staff were incredibly helpful, kind, diligent and their attention to detail was second to none. Thanks to Hannah, Keri, Dan, Darcey, Jess and Josh - 36 of us enjoyed a top-notch evening out, with outstanding food and stellar service. They all made our experience the very best it could be, and worked incredibly hard to ensure everyone had a great time. Massive compliments to the chef too … this was quite possibly the best pub food I’ve ever eaten, to the point that I’m scouring my diary, eager to find another date (and good excuse!) to return for another round. The team made the organisation of this event an easy task with their consistent cheer, patience and professionalism. Bravo!

Visited the Crooked Billet in Wimbledon Village with friends today and had an absolutely brilliant experience. We ordered the sharing roast, which was delicious and came out surprisingly quickly despite the pub being extremely busy. Our servers Jess & Josh and Chef Billy were fantastic from start to finish — friendly, attentive, and clearly working hard to keep everything running smoothly. Great food, great service, and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend!

I ordered the haddock fish and chips and was underwhelmed but the plate. There appeared to be more batter than fish and I have had better at local fish and chip shops. The service was great and very attentive.

A last minute lunch with a large group of friends on a Saturday. The staff were all absolutely welcoming with friendly smiles and we didn't feel rushed even when one of our party took forever to discuss the menu with them. It's dog friendly and provided dog snacks and water bowls. The dogs were very happy with their food and we all enjoyed ours having had a large selection from the menu. The dining room is spacious and comfortable with a high end feel about it. Nicely appointed and relaxing.

It was the first xmas eve dinner we had in the pub since we moved to uk. We booked a table for 8 lured in by the festive menu on the website, including a typical xmas turkey and other festive dishes. We turned up to the dinnner and, to our hige surprise, were served a standard pub menu we’ve had multiple times here already. When we asked about the festive menu, we were told that we should have booked that separately weeks ago and there was nothing they could do at that point. I checked the booking confirmation again and there was nothing about booking the menu separately. Nothing at all. I finally found it on the website hid deep under the terms and conditions. Having spoken to other tables around we were not the only ones surprised by that, expecting the festive menu to be just available as a seasonal one. It’s a big shame as we’d invited our family over from abroad to taste a typical british festive dishes. Unfortunately we left well fed but disappointed. All of that could have been avoided by providing a clear comms prior to the dinner and manage expectations clearly.

Vegan options limited, and would have liked more choice (as we plan to hold a monthly meetup there but eating the same vegan dish will be dull) but overall we had a great time and the team were wonderful and attentive. The food portions were a good size and really well presented, hats off to the chef.

My first English pub!! And it was a doozy. The staff were friendly, helpful, and amazing!! Will & Darcy are the best 😉 They know it and they know why. Got me a Wimbledon - light and flavourful. My wife got the Neck Oil IPA. Loved it. Try the pulled beef tacos!!

I can't recommend the Crooked Billet enough! The food was delicious, there were lots of dishes to choose from and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. A big shoutout to the staff, who were very efficient, helpful and kind! And all of this great service during an extremely busy Saturday evening with the surrounding area's fireworks display being on. Thank you so much - we will be back!

Covid or no, this is still one of the most comfortable- and comforting- pubs in London. The interior is dimly-lit and rustic all around, complete with 'Lords' & 'Ladies' restrooms, a toasty fireplace, and cozy nooks to have intimate conversations in. The staff is still among the friendliest I've encountered in London- especially in a pub- and despite the current situation, not much has changed. Most places are now requesting that people pay a not-so-small holding fee (per person) in advance for the table, which one does not get back if cancelling on the same day; not so with this place. Booking was easy and the table was free. Prices were not so low, but more on that later. My one and only reason to eat in a pub, on any given week, is Sunday Roast. If you're new to London and don't know what this is, don't ask questions; just go and order one, already (on a Sunday). The Sunday Roast at the Crooked Billet is in my list of Top 3 Sunday Roasts in all of London. Whatever gravy/ sauce/ Yorkshire-something-or-other they're putting in there, it lends the whole meal the perfect balance of flavor, whether you're eating the veggie version or a meat-laden one. Of that, you have your choice of beef, lamb, or chicken. My personal favorite is the chicken; because you can never go wrong with chicken. As for the drinks menu, you have your usual round of stouts, lagers, ciders, and whatever else you alcoholics enjoy. I can never get away from my love of the sweeter drinks, so I always go for their ciders on tap; it compliments any meal perfectly, in my opinion. Don't judge. I know I said I would never order anything other than Sunday Roast at a pub, but that may have been half a lie. One of my friends can't help herself when it comes to dessert, and I am not one to stop her. As such a great friend, however, I'm not averse to sharing the calories and splitting the bill. So, I can attest to the sheer delicious perfection that is their Salted Caramel Pudding dessert with a scoop of ice cream. The others are great, too, but this one really stands out among the rest. Now, as to the unpleasantness: Given the current situation and all the measures that have been put into place, I feel that prices have gone up everywhere. I can't be sure if that's the case here, but between the 3 of us, my friends and I managed to spend a few quid shy of £100. Not unreasonable given all we ordered, but keep the tab in mind when going for all of those extra drinks; for your wallet's sake. Happy gorging!

I was in the area and based on the reviews I decided to give it a try. I really don't know what I was thinking when I ordered the fish and chips vegan option. I should have just went with the halloumi option instead. The non fish filet was made of tofu (I am a big fan of tofu), this dish was just not good. The first bite wasn't bad but the second one was just so bitter as if the tofu were spoiled. I had the chips and called it a day. Service was fine deco is very bright and colorful.

What a great place! Met friends on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised that this pub was *just* out of the way enough to be quietish on a Friday night. We got seats, but it did get busier later, presumably once the work crowds made it as far as the Common. But it never got so busy that we couldnt hear each other. We were able to play board games and enjoy a decent beer or two - a good rotation of beer on offer. Oh and I had a burger and it was simply delicious! It is a roomy bar which seems to keep on going past an already spacious dining area, and has a freshly decorated look to it, whilst keeping that Commonside pub charm. Only bad point for me was the really rude group of older guys who seem to be in any way sorry for barging through us to sit down, shoving us with their chairs, and generally scoffing at our presence. But that's not a reflection on the Crooked Billet, whise staff were friendly and service was speedy throughout the evening. If you happen by the area, give it a shot! Lovely spot for a relaxing pint.

Lovely little pub - cosy but modern decor, great food and staff. Try Lou's New Pub Quiz on a Monday night, good selection of rounds for broad general knowledge abilities : )

Excellent Young's house, just a short walk from the Common. Has the feel of a cosy, country pub. Delicious food and fine ales in tip-top condition. Has a tendency to resemble a creche some days which is a sign of the times, I suppose. Booking for Sunday lunch is essential.

I joined the Wimbledon Windmilers Running club who mainly run in the common and very often end up in the Crooked Billet afterwards on a Tuesday or Thursday evening. The grass area outside is shared with the pub next door but you can take your drinks out there, they will bring your food out and they have picnic blankets available. They have a great selection of beers, ales and wines and have had a revamp lately. The prices have gone up but its worth it as the decor and feel of the place is very cosy and homely. The food is excellent and I can highly recommend the Sunday Roast.

I really enjoy this pub, cozy, charming, and with a superb little restaurant in the back. They've got a beautiful open fire place that's amazing in the winter. And they allow dogs. What's not to like? Also try the Hand in Hand next doors - while it isn't as quaint as the crooked billet it's just as cozy. I sometimes prefer the atmosphere over at the Hand in Hand, but the food is much better at the Crooked Billet.

One of the best place to gather a lot of people and party hard! I love it, its spacious, it has nice decoration and a lot more to offer. There's a nice menu with wide variety of drinks and dishes on a reasonable price. Staff are welcoming and polite. Highly recommended!

Excellent Roast accompanied by a pint of foaming real ale, a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

What can I say it's my dogs local. She likes nothing better than meeting her friends here for a nice drink and a complimentary doggie snack after a long walk. The humans like it too. The prices are in line with this well to do area of London but the relaxed family and dog friendly atmosphere of this old style local pub make it worth it. The only negative thing I have to say it the introduction of the pack man machine and televisions I find annoying other than that it would have been 5 stars.

Great little pub tucked away just outside of Wimbledon but feels like a world away out in the countryside - very good food also , well worth a visit!

The climb up the hill from Wimbledon station reminds me of the entrenchment of the British class system. The houses and cars get bigger and the schools become more posh and exclusive. All the wealthy people live at the top of the hill near all the trees and open space and the less wealthy at the bottom have to contend with traffic fumes and noise. The feudal folk who live on the hill also have the best pubs. This pub and its location, particularly in the summer, feel quintessentially English: the thwack of leather against willow on the edge of the common, great beer (Youngs) and Pimms on tap. As long as you can ignore the omnipresent rugger types, gossiping wimbledon wives and marauding Wombles, it's a place where you can enjoy lazy afternoons in the sunshine, forgetting your worries and getting pleasantly merry. It also does food and is open until midnight on fridays and saturdays.

This is our welcoming, homely and very busy local which is even more enticing during the winter months, with the real fires roaring, than the summer months with the buzz of people spilling out onto the Crooked Billet Green. We recently had a steak and burger which was a little disappointing, however their homemade steak & ale pie is a firm favourite of ours. Yet to try Sunday lunch 'tho we've heard it's very good. Great atmosphere and suitable for all ages.

The crooked billet is one of those classic youngs pubs that do excellent food, good beer and are a step away from the common.

I love this pub. It is a really traditional, old style pub complete with log fire. Their Sunday lunch is really good - to eat both in the pub and their adjoining restaurant. The restaurant is very atmospheric and has a very good range of well cooked dishes. It's right on Wimbledon Common, so you can walk off your lunch afterwards!

Quaint little pub with a traditional feel, great Sunday roast of lamb, giant Yorkshire pud and lots of veggies. Good pint of youngs complimented it really well.

I thought The Crooked Billet was great. Went with my boyfriend and we both had a lovely experience. The food was awesome and at a reasonable price. The manu seemed too good - it took ages to decide as to what to eat. The service was quick, efficient and friendly and the kitchen is open which is a nice. I like to watch people cooking my food. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

Nice to find a good old traditional English pub in Wimbledon. Good range of food and great to see it being prepped. I had the Sunday roast although little bit of a wait as the place was so busy! One to book ahead for. Good atmosphere whiled away the afternoon gossiping with mates. Love it!

We love our local pub, especially since their recent renovation (Summer 2014) - great staff, wonderful selection of beers, ciders + wines and their food is very good, too.

The best Sunday Lunch in Wimbledon but get there early or you will not get a table. You can't fail to fall on love with this place. Roaring fire, good food, great choice of beers and next to the common. Perfect
