Crooked River State Park

We absolutely love Crooked River State Park! This park is such a hidden gem. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful, with gorgeous views everywhere you turn. The trails are well-maintained and perfect for walking, exploring, and enjoying nature at your own pace. The playgrounds are fantastic for kids — clean, fun, and a great place to let them burn off some energy. One of our favorite parts was spotting the gopher tortoises! It was such a neat experience to see them in their natural habitat. The park is very well kept, and everything from the picnic areas to the layout of the grounds makes it easy to spend the whole day there. Whether you're hiking, relaxing, or just soaking in the beautiful surroundings, Crooked River State Park is a wonderful place to visit. We’ll definitely be back!

We stayed at Crooked River State Park from March 9–23, 2025, and had a truly wonderful experience. We were in Site 09, a premium pull-through gravel site with a picnic table and fire ring. The site was very spacious, with plenty of room for our 5th wheel, truck, and car. There was plenty of space to relax without feeling crowded. Crooked River State Park is set in a beautiful coastal forest environment with tall oaks, palmettos, and Spanish moss all around. The campground is well maintained, and the peaceful natural setting made it a perfect place for a longer stay. The park offers a great variety of amenities and activities for the active campers. We enjoyed hiking the trails through forest and marsh, watching wildlife, and just enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. It was also very convenient being close to historic St. Mary’s and the ferry to Cumberland Island. Overall, Crooked River State Park is a beautiful, well-appointed state park with excellent facilities, plenty of activities, and a gorgeous setting on Georgia’s coastal waterways. I would recommend staying here!

We have stayed in a lot of the Georgia State Parks. They have all been good, and we always leave being thankful for the wonderful experiences. But, out of all of the Georgia State Parks we have visited Crooked River State Park is right up there in the top five. We fell in love with this place immediately. There are about 60 campsites in this very spacious campground. There are multiple playgrounds, an outdoor exercise gym, 18 hole putt putt golf course, cabins, pavilions, miles of hiking trails, marina and so much more. Everything here is squeaky clean. The bathhouses sparkle, and I noticed they were being cleaned daily. The workers take a lot of time cleaning them. Spacious room around your campsite. You never feel like you are crowded in. A lot of the sites are pull through, but the backin sites are easy to back in and you have lots of room to maneuver. If you want privacy consider sites 42 and 43. Very secluded from the rest of the campground. There is also a marina with a boat ramp for launching boats and a bait shop onsite. Plenty of parking. The campground is close to St. Mary's and the ferry that takes you to Cumberland Island (highly recommend this sightseeing adventure). We are already making plans to come back here again next year at this time.

This park is super clean and well maintained. The staff and volunteers are very helpful and friendly. This trip was only my husband and I but would love to come back with the grandkids as the hiking trails are very easy and the park area has miniature golf and several play grounds. Restrooms are very clean. You can ride your bike on the paved roads all around the park but there are no areas except on the hiking trails destinated just for bikes. The boardwalk area shown in several pictures is no longer here. It was severally damaged in one of the recent hurricanes. That was our only disappointment. If you like fishing or kayaking this seems to be the place people enjoy for both. Note to be sure if you need a camping site with sewer to carefully choose your site as half the sites do not have sewer hookups. Sites are very spacious if you have a larger RV.

Beautiful State Park for exploring. A good park to take the kids. There are trails for hiking, boating, cottages, playground and miniature golf.

Cabins are great! Check in was easy. Our first time staying in a State Park and definitely do this again. Dog friendly with many trails to wear you and your dog out!!

Big camp site's. Clean showers and rest rooms. There was a fishing tournament going on when we stayed. Only had 2 nights. We didn't get to see everything. Will definitely be going back.

This is a large campground with spacious sites. The bathhouse is well kept and clean. St. Marys Seafood Restaurant and a Walmart Supercenter are within a 15 minute drive. I will definitely come back for an extended stay in 2026.

We've been to Crooked River to walk the trails, to only play at their children's park, and to go to their reptile discovery time. Every time has been a wonderful experience! The Rangers are very nice, sociable, knowledgeable, and great with kids. Seems like it can get crowded during tourist season with campers, however, I haven't necessarily run into that problem. The front desk workers can be very slow and don't really seem to know what programs are happening when so I highly recommend following events on their Facebook page to know what's going on. And of course don't forget you're five dollars for parking and watch out for gopher tortoises crossing the roads!

Fantastic park. Beautiful scenery and the beaches are the best I have ever seen. Not crowded at all. I will visit again.

Beautiful well maintained safe park. $5 to get in. Nice boat dock. Several well kept cabins. Don't miss the nature center. Great couple in there that love teaching. You will learn so much! Geocache in the park.

This 500+ acre State Park sits along the Atlantic Coast adjacent to the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base at Kingsland, Georgia, not far from St. Mary's (Exits 3 and1 off of I-95 respectively). A public boat ramp is available for those who wish to deploy watercraft. Cottages are available for rent as are hardtop plats for RV's in RV areas of the park. Each are in own areas in the park. The park presents as eye-level green and ground level brown given the presence of pines with yuccas and undergrowth throughout. The setting is quiet and tranquil. A daily parking fee is due for visitors who exit their vehicles. Separate fees are due for cottages and hookups. Registration is at the entrance. Those interested in a look-see are welcome to drive around. If you park your vehicle for a visit, a parking fee is due for the day. This place is worth a visit.

This is a Georgia State Park; from the putt putt golf course, an older state park. It is on Crooked River which leads into the St Mary's River-Kingsbay Naval Submarine Base is here too. It is a lovely park and today they advertised arts/crafts but there were only about 5 crafters set up (it was their 1st). The St. Mary's art guild was out and about the shore line painting; they actually have small cliffs. They have cabins, tent and RV camping as well as bike rentals and as mentioned.....putt/putt. Outside of the park are tabby ruins pre-civil war; I thought we were in Central America or Europe with these cool ruins!

Park is beautiful, everyone so helpful and friendly. Don't miss the Nature Center, small but a lady volunteer was so informative and knowledgeable about the animals in the area. Lots of places to roam around. Very clean and had nice putt putt and playgrounds. Went there to fish but unfortunately only 2 places we could find (far scary trail to rocky beach, or the Pier/Boat Ramp) both were crowded and nothing was biting for anyone. Get there early to fish! Very nice man at Bait Shop which has a small selection but pricey, hit Walmart first! Onto the Cottage we rented. Left a lot to be desired as it was dirty (took down 3 large cobwebs, more bugs in kitchen light than outdoor light, ripped sofa, dusty, needs paint and a lot of ceiling work), I was awoken at 5:30am to a RAT parade going through the wall a foot from my head and through the bathroom walls!! Needless to say we left at 8:00am and received a full refund. Vacation ruined! Obscene they are charging $175 a night for dilapidated cabins. Should be $60 a night. Stay at a Hotel and go here for the day or camp. Never again for us!

Now have approx 12 sites with sewer. For the money I now give them five stars; also because I caught a four pound Flounder there. Big sites with much privacy is the other reason to go to five stars.

I really used to love this park. I've been going here longer than I would like to admit, so we will say decades. It's never had a great boat ramp, but doable. The dock is in desperate need of love. Most of the cleats were broken or just missing, which made things a bit more complicated. The lovely random crab trap left on the dock with rotting fish was a lovely smell in the morning. Not sure why the rangers aren't checking the dock on occasion. Next the parking was a nightmare. Please use some common human courtesy and don't block in a trailer. If you are another boater and do this, shame on you! You especially should know how bad and frustrating that is. Never have I experienced this until this park. Park rangers - why aren't you ticketing or towing these people? After almost an hour and unhitching and beyond frustrated, we were able to get out of the mess that one trailer created by parking crooked, over the line, and partially blocking us in. Thankfully we had experience and patience on our side and were able to get out of that mess. Not the way you want to end your day. At least the view on the water was nice while boating...

A Thanksgiving mini vacation that became tradition. A State Park with cabins and a spot to place your RV. The cabins are big, roomy and clean. I love the quietness of this park. At night you see the stars and during the day you have a nice view on Cumberland Island. There are plenty of trails to discover which defiantly helps to walk of the Thanksgiving turkey, potato and gravy.

This is a beautiful place. There is only a very small dock to fish from... Which you will be sharing with a very busy boat ramp. I was only disappointed because when I googled, it came up as a great local fishing area.

Nice park for easy hiking among pines and saw palmettos. Trails are well marked, good maps, informative trail pamphlets on flora and fauna. Pretty river viens. Sad the visitor center greeter was not welcoming at all while taking my admission fee!

Nice park, a bit pricey. This is the only state park I have seen with some full hookup sites. Although they charge like an extra $10 for that. It's a small park but it's very well maintained and the rv spots are large and pretty level. They also have a boat ramp if you have a boat but there really isn't much access to the river itself. There's one small trail that leads to the river but it's small and rocky, only saw some people fishing there. Cell reception at least on T-Mobile was very spotty here, no WiFi. Still a nice park. If it was a bit more affordable and/or had better WiFi/cell access would be 5 stars.

This is our go to place. Nice campground and wonderful bike riding area. Don't miss "Charlie", the alligator, who lives in the pond by the campground entrance.

Hidden gem! I'm giving this place a 5 for its beauty and location. It's easy to get to and I can't believe I've been in Jax so many years without visiting this park! At only $5 per carload it's an inexpensive way to have a fun day trip. You can see by the photos there is a lot of beauty and lots to see. The tall pine hammock is beautiful. We took the Simpervirens Trail because the Park Ranger said it was the shadiest. Not to far into the trail the ecology changed into a wetlands area. For a mushroom enthusiast it was AWEsome...but for anyone who doesn't like mosquitoes...it's a nightmare! I've been to the Everglades and don't remember so many mosquitoes. I'm serious. Take. Bug. Spray. There are several trails for hiking, a boating area, a mini golf course, camping and it's all near water. I definitely recommend Crooked River!

Love this campground! Clean spot. They sell wood at office. Close to Kingsland where Publix and other amenities are located. Really enjoyed tent camping here! The bathroom, shower units are private, new and exceptional.

I just love camping at State Parks! Crooked River stands out with the large lots and well manicured landscaping. Fortunately I found a spot here that was kind of last minute through Reserve America. When I called the office I found out the gate is open until 10pm which is wonderful for me. Check in and check out are at 1pm and I like that as well. No surprises. Check in is easy and in a gift shop with reasonable prices on camping amenities such as fire wood and ice. The park is located along the water (crooked river) and has great views of the salt marsh across the way. Saint Mary's is a short drive away. Crooked River State Park isFull of nature trails and exciting bird watching areas. It's peaceful and dog friendly. They offer classes and fun activities so check their calendar for your dates. Each campsite has a paved area, electricity, water and fire ring. The bath houses have showers and laundry facilities. I highly recommend this State Park for a fun camping experience.

Went here last weekend and it was amazing. Very private spot I could hear the neighbors ac on their camper but not see them. We stayed in spot 52. The bathrooms near there were brand new and private shower and toilet. The other bathroom were dated but clean. Overall a great place to stay a while. Rangers were super friendly and nice. Wish the state would invest more money into such wonderful gems. Nice playground and miles of bike and walking trails. We will be back

So beautiful and well maintained. We loved this park so much I made a reservation for another week while we were driving out. Fishing is amazing!

The park is very nice, well maintained, and quiet. The only reason for the two stars is there is not a lot to do there. You have to drive and hour to get to the beach, there is water but you can't swim in it, there is no pool, or laundry. Other than that the park is wonderful if you are just wanting to get away for a quiet weekend. I don't think this would be a good place to try and keep children busy.

I lived near here almost all my childhood, been to crooked river state park which is lovely, but I never been to the camp ground. This is my first official camping experience and I truly enjoyed myself. I got to pick my own spot, it was not crowded and outside of kid riding their bikes and playing, it was very peaceful. I was reluctant to go there due to the horrible knats in the area but I hardly got bit. I think when people use the fire pit it, the smoke from it confuses the bugs and they can't smell you as easily. They have dump area, restrooms, showers, laundry area, and electronic hook ups at each site, which is a must have for me because I need my fan. I will definitely be back.

We love this park!!! Clean, lots of things ti do including outside exercise equipment. Beautiful. Great boat landing.

Great park. Lots of nice attractions and a cool place to walk and just be outside. I love the workout area and the cabins are adorable.

Huge campsites, lovely views, great hiking and views. Bathrooms are nice and clean and all staff was really friendly. No wi-fi at campsites, but our friends and a campfire were all we needed.

Beautiful park with very clean facilities and picnic pavilions. Several very nice walking trails.

Best place EVER. I've been coming to it for years. Worth the 1000 mile drive every time.

I love this place. Spots are large and level, folks are friendly. Looking forward to returning. However cold snap there the people responsible for shower/comfort station did not close windows or turn on heater. Window cranks and heater missing cranks and knobs to do it myself. Also ran out of paper products. It was not fun using the facility in 39 weather. I would think that one of the three camping hosts would have caught this.

This is a nice park, just not really much onsite activities other than some small walking trails and bike rentals. The campsite area has some trees around, but the sites are all still very open feeling. If you are looking for a relaxing low key place to camp, this is a good place for you to check out.

Great ambiance, great park, and a great boat ramp. The bluffs are beautiful to see and walk by. The fishing is great. The cabins are air conditioned and well maintained. Anyone who calls a functioning, clean state park "underwhelming" isn't the type of reviewer to understand what makes a state park great in the first place.

We loved this campground because the sites are huge, nicely spaced and we had a good amount of privacy between neighbors. It was also nice to have full hookups at a state park, but that also made the park a lot more expensive than most state parks. We visited the nature center while we were there which was worth a visit. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile worked great there.

We loved this park and hope to return one day. We spent a week there and it was great. The park is clean and open. Great for biking. They have an outdoor weight circuit, a nature center, miniature golf and a very nice ramp for fishing and boating. Enjoyed gorgeous sunsets across the river and resting in my hammock among the beautiful trees. The staff was courteous and I felt very safe with the number of rangers on site plus campground hosts. Close to St Mary and Amelia Island.

We had a bridal shower yesterday , and just had a very bad experience.. paid $250 for one day.. Couldn't get in and start setting up until 10am. Every car also had to pay an additional $5 per car for parking ? No one was aware and we just paid $250 to rent the place ? Why are we paying for parking?? Had a whole check list that needed to be done before we left. Literally had to vacuum and mop after paying $250 for just a few hours ??? My older family members had trouble getting in the broken door... We had to give a $200 deposit just in case something happened , and the Ranger tried to say us ladies who were there for not even 5 hours messed the paint up on the BROKEN door... honestly we were celebrating the bride not walking in and out the door.. ALSO the checklist said no cigarettes butts and thankfully non of us ladies smoked, but we had to walk outside and pick up OLD cigarette butts to make sure we got our deposit back... They need to clean up the place before trying to take peoples money for others problems.. VERY DISSATISFIED. Non of the family will be returning and I'll make sure everyone knows how rude these people are!!! Ranger said the $5 parking goes towards the Maintenance and upkeep... well how about you fix the paint on the door and fix the door so people can actually OPEN it. If you want a stress free venue for a party DONT BOOK THIS PLACE. If I could rate this place a 0 star I would!

Very clean. Helpful rangers and campground hosts the bathrooms are in very good condition. There are lots of things for the kids to do and see the hiking trails are also really great.

It's a nice state park but I didn't encounter anything that would make it stand out to me. It was very underwhelming. Don't get me wrong it's clean and beautiful. A nice place to go for a walk. It's just like other parks minus the wildlife. I encounter more wildlife if Pennypack Park in the middle of a big city.

Great park! Beautiful area right on the river when you can fish, hike, bike, and wonderful employees that keep the facility beautiful and clean.

The park is in a nice area and is clean and well managed. There were a few trails and plenty of space for bike riding. There were many good sized cabins available for rent and several play areas for kids. Friendly staff, a nice gift shop and a bait shop. There was also a public boat ramp with a nice parking lot. We went to the park for a guided, 3 hour sunset kayak tour that promised sights of dolphins and manatees. What they didn't tell us in the description posted online is that the tour was obviously for children or beginning kayakers. The trip was maybe a mile and a half round trip, with a 30 min stop in the middle. A distance that would normally be covered in 30 mins? There was no wildlife other than a few birds and the scenery was bleak at best. Industrial building crowded the horizon. Worst of all was the quality of the kayaks!!!! I can't say enough about how cheap and of poor quality their kayaks were! My husband and I are experiences boaters and were completely defeated with their kayaks. They. Were. Horrible. Sad to say that all in all, we drove an hour to get there and were trapped on a "tour" for 3 hours in a completely incompetent kayak. We left right away feeling a little jipped of our $45... Be advised that there are many other wonderful places to visit and kayak nearby. Laura Walker State Park, Okefenokee Wildlife Adventures, Kayak Amelia... Just don't pay to use their kayaks and don't take a tour!
