Very central and we had a twin room in the annexe. It was comfortable and superficially clean. The staff are helpful and friendly. The swimming pool is small but pleasant. Too much chlorine in it for me! The bathroom urgently needs a deep clean. It's noisy at 7am when the bins are emptied but quiet at night. I think it's quite expensive for the standard of room .

We stay at the Crown & Mitre once or twice a year over the last 10 years to catch up with our family. The location is perfect & could not be more central. There is onsite parking (first come, first served). This visit though, we felt the hotel has really upped its game and it was our best stay. Breakfast - always good - was excellent. The staff were great - very helpful & friendly & on the ball. Although we didn't have dinner at the hotel, we did have sandwiches on Sunday night, and they were delicious. We'll definitely be back (again).

We spent a splendid 3 nights with a group of eleven friends on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at this hotel from 16th- 19th September. The whole experience was very enjoyable. The dinner and breakfast were both delicious and served piping hot! Often an inclusive deal doesn't give much choice for dinner but there was an excellent choice. Although being a party of eleven we were given prompt attention by the very helpful staff. We are all in our late 70s early 80s but felt very at home at this hotel. Next time I would upgrade to a room with a walk in shower as being elderly climbing into a bath was a little dodgy! This was the only downside! |Carlisle is a wonderful destination and this hotel is near the train station and bus station for trips around the local area.

We stayed here for 1 night for a catch up with friends from different areas of the uk and scotland. |we weren’t actually in the main building you had to go outside to your room in a separate bit, we were room 107. |On this side of the building be prepared to be woken up at 6.30am when deliveries are arriving and trolleys are scraping and rolling across the pavement.|our friends were in the same building but being on the opposite side did not hear any of this. |On our arrival it was difficult to find the back of the hotel for the car park so had to ring. we did manage to get a space in there but it was extremely busy as there were bands also there for the blues weekend. |Our room was nice though with a comfortable bed. tea and coffee making facilities and all that we needed for 1 night. We enjoyed a drink in the hotel bar at the end of the night. |Very central for a nice meal out in Alexandros greek restaurant and a few drinks round carlisle with friends

Visiting Carlisle & popped in for light snack in the bar area. Bar lady very friendly & helpful. We ordered drinks & scones which were fabulous served with jam & cream. The bar area looked a little ‘tired’ & in need of a makeover but the staff & scones made up for it. Will definitely visit again.

So much potential but ultimately disappointing. We booked a superior room which was clean with a comfy bed however it desperately needs renovation. ||The car park is tiny so no chance of parking. We didn’t see a single space all visit. Pay and Display is available locally at £8 for 24 hours.||Looking at the sign in sheet the pool is rarely used but was a good temperature and pleasant. The changing rooms were filthy however.||Breakfast was what you’d expect but the staff were overwhelmed and systems were not in place to ensure slick service. Our coffee/toast took thirty minutes to arrive on the fourth time of asking - fortunately a kind couple shared theirs with us.||With a decent renovation, a good clean and some staff training this could be a great hotel. As it is it is geared up for coach tours and I wouldn’t recommend.

The location of the hotel is perfect. It’s in the city centre next to everything you need. The room’s furniture is old. Bed mattress is too soft, pillow is too low. The furniture needs an upgrade. No safety box in the room. The shower was difficult to manage as the water level is strong. Our room was next to the housekeeping storage so there was loads of noice in the corridor starting at 7am. Overall the hotel is good. I will give it 3 stars.

The hotel has mixed reviews and obviously was previously a large prominent hotel. Parts of the hotel have been sold off or being used for retail.|Reception and bar area are nice although area where breakfast is served was once a function room. Breakfast was very average.|Dinner served in a downstairs room was just about ok although you feel you are not sitting in a restaurant. Young staff were not great at service.||Pool was warm and very welcome.|No air con in rooms so ask for fan. Room was a decent size.

Yelp
This was our second visit and what a difference from the first. We had a superior room which was gorgeous and spacious. The decor was lovely and the bathroom was great. The small touches were lovely e.g. slippers and dressing gown. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Staff were so helpful and attentive. I'm looking forward to the next stay.

Yelp
This hotel in one word: charming. An old school building, likely a hotel long, long ago that has been updated and maintained quite nicely by a professional hotel management group in the UK. An easy walk from the main rail station, it has a staggering amount of history in the city centre making it an ideal holiday getaway to my mind. If you're looking for charming pubs serving hardy country fare to haute cuisine it's not difficult to find. Breakfast this morning was buffet and consisted of about everything you expect at small inns (ie., too much food) with "black puddin'" being the exception. I'll get my fill of that later on this trip. Gorgeous restaurant contained within that a nearby coffee shop and bar spoke highly of and a nice looking bar that had a lot of appeal as a nice place to spend some quality time, though I didn't, but only because I had other matters to attend to. Priced right in my opinion, though I opted only for one of the smallest rooms as this was nothing more than an overnight stay before heading to my next destination. A wonderful place to stay, I made a good choice.

Yelp
Right in the heart of the shopping thoroughfare. Reception area lovely and well marked out to support social distancing. The room although in need of decoration and modernisation, is clean and comfy. Staff are pleasant and helpful.
