This is the Motel 6 of "resorts". While the beachfront location is nice and the pool amenities are plentiful, the rooms are tired and mediocre, the beds are terrible, the pool is murky and often crowded, the posted mask policy is 100% ignored and not enforced, the restaurant serves raw chicken, and a man was holding women at gunpoint while we were leaving. We will not be back.
Nickel and Diming from the fine print: your 25% deposit is non-refundable unless you pay for a "VIP plan". Changes are otherwise $25. There is a $10 parking fee per vehicle/night, a daily resort fee, and 2.5% additional credit card fee if you don't pay the balance in advance.
Things they didn't tell us in advance (April 2021). There is NO housekeeping during your stay. If you want anything, you will have to call housekeeping with your needs and they will bring items to your door. The bar in the building is closed. You can't get into the gym. The young kids splash pad area was closed half the week we were there.
The Room: Rooms with kitchenettes are not ADA compliant. We rented an ocean-front, standard, wheelchair accessible room with a shower and 2 queen beds for 6 nights. It is no frills, no comfort and very tight for a wheelchair user. There was a chair, desk, dresser, mini-fridge, and microwave. Expect to have to dump water out of the moldy de-humidifier bucket every other day.
The beds were the most loathsome part of our trip. We couldn't relax. I wish I bought a mattress topper, sheets, and pillows day 1. The mattresses were very old and provided no support, we had trouble sleeping and woek up with sore backs (I slept better as a passenger in the car on the way back). sheets were ill-fitting, paper thin and had black particles on them. Beneath the fitted sheet is protector that is like a puppy pee-pad. It constantly bunches, requiring you to pull the sheet back to reveal the mattress (not pretty!) and adjust it. The mattress is not pretty under there. This was the most disappointing part about not having housekeeping services - every night, dreading having to go under the sheet and touch the stained mattresses. The ultra-thin pillows are 1/2 size. We have never seen such a thing.
The bathroom meets ADA requirements and there was a shower chair present (as requested). The shower head wand has no connection to secure it to the adjustable base. The only option for a seated person to shower is to either be very far from the head in its normal position or to use the wand only. The wall is cracking around the sink and there is no counter to put your things. The towels are cheap and thin.
Amenities: The primary reason we selected this resort was for the (3) pools, lazy river, splash pad, and water slides. Also, the beach is down a few steps. While overall, the pool is nice - the water likely needs to be treated better (it was murky) and there needs to be some safeguards for children. While it is clearly marked that you must attend to your children, most parents blatantly do not. I witnessed small children unsupervised in the water, running, jumping/diving in shallow water etc... The area can easily be overcrowded. With 3 drowning/near drowning incidents over the past few years, I hope the facility will make changes to this.
Wheelchair access is possible outside, some areas are cumbersome to navigate. They put tables with umbrellas out mid-stay, but the umbrellas never came out again (we were told the staff didn't have the key) and there were only a few chairs for the tables.
One of the elevators had a problem getting stuck on floors (would not move up or down). After an ordeal, I told an employee who said, "Yeah, that happens. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't". Wheelchair users can't take the stairs. This is not acceptable.
Dining: The Grab and Go Breakfast Buffet was worthwhile, approx. $12 for adults and $8 for kids 12 and under. It had a fresh omelet and waffle station, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, cereal, sausage and gravity, grits, apples, pastries, juices, tea and coffee. It was all served for you and behind Plexiglass.
We went to the Loco Gecko Restaurant twice. At lunch, our party was overall satisfied with the food though it was expensive. However, in the evening, they missed putting sauces that were ordered with takeout chicken wings and required us to show our receipt to retrieve them, but when we got back we learned both orders of wings were RAW. Dangerous and gross! They were closed at that point.
I honestly couldn't wait to leave.
