Yelp
I've stayed here for a total of 7 weeks in the past year. Overall I'd rate it 'good'. They are renovating the rooms so I'd expect some improvement there, but not for quite a while.
PROS: Location - central downtown. View - the back faces the pretty St John river and the front the beautiful legislature. Staff- very good. The building - old and classic, attractive lobby area and staircase. Rooms - clean and large, albeit bland and aging. The bar - good food, and very impressive collection of local beers, knowledgeable staff, welcoming interior, just the right amount of TV's for sports if you want to watch them. Pool and exercise room - good size pool and well-equipped exercise room.
CONS: Really disappointed in the overpriced and underqualitied breakfast - limited selection, lousy bread, lumpy room-temperature oatmeal, mixed fruit had a scary chemical flavour and there was no other whole fruit like bananas to substitute for something safe, so-so orange juice and poor coffee. Beds- too soft and sagging. I'm glad my last room had two beds because the first was basically concave. The second was just tolerable. Clock radio - all three I've had were old and cheap and the time was hard to read. One's alarm, though set to off, went off randomly. No music player, nor microwave, and most rooms don't have a mini-fridge. TV good and large but had limited channels. Last summer I asked why the Blue Jays games weren't on my room's tv and was told that the cable company wouldn't give them a better package. Yet the games were playing on the hotel's bar's TV; so I think the correct answer was 'we don't want to pay for an upgrade'. Staff - I know I said 'very good' above but have to add under cons that while most staff were great, more times than I liked my complaints were met with shrugs rather than help, from some of them.
