6 Former Train Stations That Are Now Hotels - AFAR

"Housed in the country’s first union station, with construction of the current building beginning in 1913, this property preserves a barrel-vaulted lobby and a dramatic round window while offering unique lodging: 26 guest rooms located inside 13 restored Pullman railcars installed within the main building (two rooms per car). The railcar rooms retain rows of small windows and a nod to their 1920s origins but feature modern furnishings, individual workstations, and access to contemporary amenities including an indoor pool." - Pat Tompkins

The location of this hotel is really unbeatable, especially if you are in town for a convention or anything on the circle. The staff were amazing, we stayed over christmas eve and christmas day. The breakfast buffet was probably the best I have had at a hotel, shout out to Ashwin he made our breakfast great and he was so nice. He was super helpful and made sure we always had coffee. Crystal made us feel at home as soon as we checked in and gave us a lot of cool information about the hotel. My only issue was the room, if you get the rail car rooms they are very cool and novel, but they are for sure cramped. The rooms are not the most luxurious in the Indy area, but the beds were comfy and the pillows were soft but supportive. The lack of a TV we could stream to was a downside. Otherwise, amazing stay we would absolutely stay again.

3-Star Review: Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station (“All aboard the mixed-experience express!”) We stayed three nights for events at Lucas Oil Stadium, and let me tell you—location-wise, this place is first-class. You can stroll from the lobby to the stadium mostly through climate-controlled tunnels like a VIP heading to the big game. Whoever designed that walkway deserves a raise. The hotel itself is drop-dead gorgeous. It’s a converted train station that still oozes history and character. You half expect to see a conductor shouting “Tickets, please!” in the lobby. As someone once said, “Railroads made America,” and this place keeps that spirit alive. You can almost hear the echoes of 19th-century travelers waiting to board the next great adventure. Now, speaking of trains—there’s at least one still running through the area. Around 6 a.m., we heard one glide by on the elevated tracks. It wasn’t loud enough to wake us, but if you’re the type who jumps at the sound of a passing freight car, consider earplugs. Where this trip hit the brakes was the room. We booked a Two Queen Beds room but ended up with what were definitely Two Full Beds. I measured them myself—yes, with a tape measure like a 19th-century engineer checking track gauge. Two adults on one full-size bed is a tight fit, and when I mentioned it to the front desk, they dug in harder than a steam locomotive on a steep grade. No apology, no acknowledgment, no concessions — just, “Those are queens.” If gaslighting were an Olympic event, they’d medal. The on-site restaurant? Let’s just say it’s “convenient” the way a vending machine is convenient. The food was mediocre at best, but at those prices, I half expected the chef to wheel it out on a silver cart while humming “Chattanooga Choo Choo.” And then there’s parking. Oh, the parking. It’s valet only — if you can get it (fills up often) — and runs a whopping $50 per night. For that price, I was hoping they’d detail the car and top off the gas. I’m handicapped, so the idea of “valet maybe, maybe not” was more stress than I wanted. In short: the hotel is beautiful, full of history, and perfectly located for events at Lucas Oil. But between the bed fiasco, the “we’re always right” customer service, and the expensive parking, this train of thought leads me straight to three stars. As railroad legend Casey Jones might’ve said—it’s a fine ride, but watch out for the curves.

No real wow factor except at 2am on night one when the train rolls through and the building shakes and you jump up thinking its and earth quake! Lobby is boring, rooms are on the smaller side but clean with nice hot water. Service was good but it's a place to sleep and that's pretty much it. Good clean room with 2 trains or so nightly, so if you're a heavy sleeper this is the place for you!

I highly recommend staying in the Pullman Car room! My fourteen year old daughter and I had a blast stepping back in time walking around looking at all of the train cars reading the names of famous people of the past that are painted on the side of the cars and on plaques on the doors to the rooms in them. It was a great lesson in history sparking some very good questions and answers about the people!

Google
The hotel is visually amazing. The room was nice except the bed was way to soft and we found a pair of socks underneath a stool. The parking was a nightmare paying 50 dollars a night was ridiculous. The surrounding area had so much construction doing on and they started work at 6AM. Overall it was a decent stay just not sure if we would stay there again.

My experience with this hotel was deeply disappointing and honestly unacceptable. I booked through Expedia, but a severe weather advisory made it unsafe for me to travel. Expedia stepped in, contacted the hotel directly, and clearly explained the situation. Even then, Crowne Plaza Indianapolis-Dwtn-Union Stn by IHG refused to show any flexibility whatsoever. I fully understand policies exist — but there are moments when safety and basic human decency should matter more than a non-refundable clause. A responsible hotel could have offered something: a refund, a credit for a future stay, a date change, or even partial consideration. Instead, they chose to hide behind policy and keep a mere $97 rather than support a returning customer who has stayed here recently and travels frequently. This experience made it clear that this property prioritizes profit over people. It would have cost them nothing to do the right thing, and it would have earned long-term loyalty. Instead, it sent the message that customer safety and goodwill don’t matter here. The only thing this hotel really had going for it was its proximity. (Though, with current construction, that is not ideal). The property isn’t particularly modern or impressive, and at this point, the lack of customer care seals the deal — we will not be staying here again. Sometimes, the only way to speak up is with our business, and this hotel has lost ours permanently.

Parking is pricey but it is downtown so it was a matter of choosing valet over the nearby garages which were marginally cheaper. Walking around construction with luggage was a bear and grin experience. I was traveling solo so watch out for the homeless that hang out around the perimeter. I checked in late evening however my room was not ready due to a changeover in the key door lock system. I was given a memo letter that it was in process until 5:30 pm. I checked in after 7 pm. I saw another group unable to get into their room. I was on the third floor if that matters for noise. I could hear it all with their paper thin walls. People in the hallway, doors closing loudly, alarm clocks going off at 6 am, the frequent train passing all moments of the day and night. As I write this, I hear another train passing. It is thunderous and screechy. I am relieved I have a one night stay only. I chose this hotel since it is walking distance to the stadium that I am here for. It is very nostalgic and unique but due to noise, construction and limited parking, I would recommend a different hotel accommodation.

Google
Beautiful hotel, it is inside the old Union Station. It is beautifully decorated in the lobby and old platform area right outside of our room. The staff are plesant, responsive and excellent in customer service. The room was large, beds very comfortable, and the shower was great. They have old train cars that are now rooms, we were sadly unable to stay in one they were all booked. But our stay was great and it's close to everything downtown. Thank you for a wonderful stay, would definitely stay again.

Yelp
Not the best, but it could have been worse... where do I begin? So, there's a lot of construction going on right outside, not theirs, but it's still within feet of the entrance. This makes it rather difficult to get in and out of. One way streets are blocked, there's heavy machinery everywhere. Even with the valet I had to wait about 25 minutes until I could get my car. Honestly, had I known about all of the construction work going on, I definitely would not have booked a room here. I know it's not their fault and I'm sure it's hurting business, but it just added to the stress of traveling. Once inside all of that seemed to disappear. This hotel has character and a story to it and that's exactly why I picked it. It's actually located inside of the first ever Union Station and the history is embedded all throughout. They warned me when I checked in that the station is still used so I might notice trains when they come through because the ground will shake a little. They even have actual train carts set up as rooms you can book. While I opted for just an ordinary room, the carts were right outside my door. Pretty cool to peek into. My room itself was cozy. The bed was comfortable and I slept really well. The only window faced inside to the atrium and it was pretty quiet, which I appreciated knowing what was going on outside. I also liked all of the cool art that I stumbled upon and the fact that they had a small market where I could grab a drink and a snack. I do wish the TV was a little updated as I ended up watching some shows on my computer because there was just basic cable available. All in all, I wouldn't consider staying here again until all the construction is finished. I hate to say it, but it's true.

Yelp
I was recently at the Crowne Plaza for a small conference. It's been years since I've been here. The new renovations are amazing! It was perfect for our event filled with meeting planning professionals and association management executives. The food was terrific. The rooms were comfortable, the meeting space ample, and the staff top notch. Be sure to go on a walking tour to see the train car rooms, sculptures of people throughout the hotel, and historic architecture!

Yelp
A friend and I stayed here overnight while attending the Jessie McCartney concert and we enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and had a lot of room so we were not crammed. They also have a nice bar area where we could have a drink and an appetizer. There is a section where the rooms are in train. We didn't stay in them due to cost but we did take some photos. The only downer was the TV was not working for a few hours during our stay but it was not a big deal. I enjoyed my stay at Crowne Plaza

Yelp
I attended a conference here and the venue was amazing! Having originally trained as an historian prior to my library work, the Sheraton did a phenomenal job honoring this location's history as a train station and the conference presenters wonderfully incorporated that into their programming!

Yelp
Currently under construction, a bit dusty, plastic tarps everywhere. Our room was clean however there was an overwhelming smell of tiling glue emanating thru the windows. We had a room that overlooked an interior "patio" that was being tiled. I didn't mind the construction noises (they stopped working in the evening) but that chemical glue smell was quite overwhelming and headache inducing. Once construction is completed, this could be a 4/5 star place. We stayed around February 21st, 2025. It was very convenient walking distance to Lucas Oil Stadium for the concert we attended. Would stay here again and hopefully construction is done by then.

Yelp
I'm struggling with the stars here friends. The facility itself was beautiful! Bed was super comfy and clean. My room was spacious, not much to the bathroom but it's a bathroom, I'd rather have a spacious seating area so I can work. It's a renovated train station, so that's interesting, but there are no windows to the outside, which is jarring. Like, no sunlight. And if you want any kind of light, aside from the kind of yellowish hotel lighting, you have to open the blinds out to the common space and anyone walking by can see in. I was here for a conference so I didn't select the hotel but if I were on the selection committee, that alone would have had me looking elsewhere. And then there is the parking. The area is under construction right now and there is no obvious public parking for several blocks. And I'm a solo traveler who has never been to this city so I'm cautious about where I park because I don't know what I will have to walk through to get to my car. The street is literally blocked off into a one way pass by in front of the hotel. So, ok, I'll valet. $40/night? Seriously? No discount for basically being forced to use valet for hotel guests? Mkay. BUT when I checked out, the charge on my bill was $50! So I called it out and they told me it was "surge pricing". I'm sorry; your hotel is BUSY so you're going to charge me more for something I pretty much have to use? Way to end my stay on an icky note. But the staff was friendly and helpful, I had a weird air conditioner noise that kept me up my first night and the front desk person arranged for maintenance to visit and adjust something for a more restful night on day 2. Overall, I appreciated the staff and facility but the money grab was greasy. But yeah, the no sunlight thing would have had me elsewhere. My circadians were out of whack.

Yelp
We stayed at Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Union Station recently. While there were a few positives, our overall experience was mixed. The location is excellent--perfect for exploring downtown and attending big events--and the banquet facilities are impressive. Our room was quiet, and the bed was comfortable enough, which made for decent sleep quality. However, there were several issues. The first room we were given had clearly been smoked in, which was disappointing. Thankfully, we were moved to a new room, though it was not one of the train car rooms, it still felt very small. The biggest issue was the tiny bathroom--it had low ceilings with old ceiling tiles, poor water pressure, and no hot water on our first day. We weren't the only ones in our group to experience this. After calling the front desk, we were told to wait in the room for maintenance who were on their way up immediately. More than an hour later, I called back only to be told the issue had been resolved without anyone entering the room. The front desk agent insisted she had called to tell me--but I was sitting right next to the phone the entire time and it never rang. In short: great location, nice event space, but the room comfort and customer service left much to be desired. I'm not sure I'd choose to stay here again.

Yelp
Came to town to visit my son and decided to stay at this hotel. This hotel is centrally located to downtown, Lucas Oil Field and Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The rooms are good size - they have a frig in the room, a Keurig Coffee Maker, and the beds are pretty comfortable. Currently going through some renovations. They are converting the old Train Barn at Union Station into this hotel. You can even book to stay in a few of the old train cars that have been converted into rooms. Looks pretty cool from the outside. They do have a restaurant on site although we did not try it. There is also an indoor pool and a small workout area.

Yelp
Had a great stay at Crowne Plaza for a wedding. Thank you to Kimaya P. for being so helpful on such a busy weekend. We appreciate your time and patience with all our questions.

Yelp
I booked my hotel room with Crowne Plaza through Airbnb. It was such a simple process to book my hotel stay. I had questions about the stay beforehand and messaged the host. They responded right away and answered all of my questions. The room was beautiful and clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. The service was great and the staff were kind. The hotel had a skywalk to the convention center, which was so convenient to walk to my conference without being exposed to the outdoors. For a woman traveling alone on business, I felt safe there. I highly recommend this hotel! Enjoy!

John M.

Yelp
Would give 0 stars if I could. The least helpful staff I have ever been around. I was double charged for a room and received 0 help. Stay anywhere else in Indy besides here.

Yelp
For a less than 24 hr visit to Indy my overnight stay at the Crowne Plaza was ideal. The overnight attendant was wonderful, I did not check in until 11:30pm she was extremely kind, and yielded superb customer service. I appreciated the convenient walkway to the convention center for a conference I was attending. The hotel is historic, I enjoyed seeing the trains throughout the hotel.

Yelp
We had such a great time staying here in the winter when we were visiting from being stationed in Hawaii. My kids had not seen snow before, so it was very exciting. We rented a train car and it was whimsical and delightful. My kids also really enjoyed All of the "ghosts." The food quality in the restaurant was very good; However, I wish they were open for more than dinner. Another time we had a family Vaca at a nearby hotel, and when our pool was broken, they allowed us to use theirs. That was extremely generous and probably saved the vacation for my two young boys. Thx for the awesome service!! Parking is plentiful with a nearby garage and the location is superb. There's lots of places to eat and the mall is across the street.

Yelp
We were in town for a concert and decided to try out the Crowne Plaza. My IHG membership allows me to use a free night at basically almost any of their properties once a year, so you bet I was going to use it on the boujee-ist one I could! I was immediately impressed with it upon arrival. The location is fantastic - walking distance from the convention center, many restaurants/bars, and has garage parking right out front. It was $28 for 24 hours, but I found it worth it. They do have valet for $45 as well. The staff here were incredibly friendly and helpful. I noticed a lot of people mentioning the noisiness of the trains, which the front desk told us about too, however we never heard anything. Our room was right in the middle of the first floor, so it probably depends on that. They also have rooms that are inside of train cars, which I think is a really cool concept. I already want to come back to stay in one! I really enjoyed their 'self-checkout' marketplace, which made it easy to get snacks and drinks outside of our room. There is also a connected bar and restaurant. We had a great time here and I would easily stay here again.

Karen W.

Yelp
Didn't tell us they took out pool. Took 45 minutes to get our car from valet. Stayed in train car, was spotless housekeeping staff very courteous beds very comfortable bathroom door sticked hard to open and the toilet leaked and kept filling up. The restaurant manager Kendal was extremely rude. The rest of staff were very pleasant.

Yelp
We stayed here a few years ago and when looking to be downtown for a night, we thought this would be a good choice. The historic charms add to the overall experience. The location is good, however, there are a lot.more homeless people wandering around than I recall from the last time. I know crime in the area is up too. We woke up the next morning to a story about 2 people being shot just a block or two from here. This is a no frills hotel and it was clean and the staff was courteous, professional, and friendly. We thought it would be cool to sleep in one of the ten train cars that they have and it was. The layout is neat and different. The three stars is because of the noise. The drawback to sleeping in a train car that is on old tracks is that there are still active tracks next to you. Some reviews said it added to the ambience and I get it. It was not pleasant having trains rumble by and shake the entire room every 20-30 minutes all night long. Some reviews say if you stay in the interior of the hotel you don't hear/feel the trains. I am not sure. The location was decent I just believe I would stay in a hotel farther away from the train tracks next time.
google avatar

Yelp
The hotel is conveniently attached (via walkway) to the Convention Center. It is also easily walkable to Pacers and Colts games. There are actually rooms inside an old train, though we had the traditional room. Everything was comfortable and the staff at the restaurants and bar were friendly. We were slightly disappointed we couldn't get a late checkout (I have IHG status that allows it), citing a "mass departure and needing to get all rooms cleaned", but it didn't ruin the stay. Clean room, hot shower, comfortable bed...all good.

Yelp
Five star location for downtown, Lucas Oil, Convention Center, etc. Literally connected to most of these venues, walking distance to great food and sites as well. The rooms are spacious, clean and easy to find. They have a nice breakfast buffet and many other amenities like business center, meeting spaces and a bar. If you are a fan of trains, book a train car room - it's unique and nostalgic. Feels just like a private rail car, complete with king sized bed, bath and sitting area. My only complaint was that the hotel is connected to the actual rail line and several trains rolled through quite loudly at 11pm and 545am. Not the end of the world but surprising for sure. Will definitely away here again.

Yelp
We recently stayed at this hotel while attending a motocross event at Lucas oil Stadium. Very convenient walk to the convention center and stadium as they are connected. There are plenty of places within walking distance to eat. Our favorite was st elmo! Valet was nice but it filled up fast and I noticed that some people had to use the parking garage across the street. We were one of the lucky ones to be able to keep our car there. The front desk was extremely helpful and our room was very clean and spacious. The kids really enjoyed the pool. It was the perfect size and very clean. Bathrooms are small but we had everything we needed.

Yelp
If you're looking for something different, or are just in the area and in need of a place to rest your head, the Crowne Plaza is the place to go! Generally speaking, as far as a hotel goes, this place checks all the boxes you could want: clean, comfortable rooms, on-site parking (not included, but right next to the building), a pool, and proximity to what downtown Indy has to offer. For something special, however, this place takes the cake! You can stay on a train car! How cool is that?! We went the exciting route and stayed on one of the train cars. It was really neat and something I'd highly recommend doing! That being said, I have some tips: try to ask for either the green or the red train cars. Those are the ones that are on the other side of the building, away from the active train tracks... (the blue train cars are on that side). Make sure you explore the building too, lots of history and the grand hall is spectacular! Oh, and don't get creeped out by the mannequins that are around the building, they're harmless! Now, full disclosure, the train rooms are a bit pricey. As is parking. But stay just a night or two for fun and I promise you won't regret it. Plus, you are walking distance from restaurants/bars/breakfast spots. It's really a great location. We will remember this spot next time we find ourselves in Indianapolis because it's just too unique to pass up!

Yelp
Did you know that Indianapolis has a hotel where you can sleep in a real train car? Yes, it's true, and it's probably the most unique hotel room my family and I have ever booked. These train hotel rooms are at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Union Station in downtown Indianapolis, which was the first Union Station in the United States (and it continues to be a real working station today). Crowne Plaza also has regular hotel rooms, but if you want the train experience, ask for the Pullman Train Rooms. Thirteen real train cars have been converted into hotel rooms, and the train cars even sit on a real train track. All cars are named after famous early- to mid-20th century people, including Charlie Chaplin, Jean Harlow, Winston Churchill and Amelia Earhart, to name a few. Our family was given a room on the green line, and our hotel room was named after P.T. Barnum, the American showman who founded Barnum & Bailey Circus. Inside the train car is a cozy and streamlined hotel room. Because the room is inside a real train car, the room is more rectangular than a typical hotel room, with several windows lining one wall. You can request a train room with either two double beds or a room with one king bed. Union Station is a real working train station, so when we checked in, the attendant told us we might feel the vibrations of trains passing by. And we did! It wasn't disruptive at all, and honestly, if we weren't trying to notice it, we might not have. But the gentle rumbling that happened every so often just added to the ambiance of sleeping in a real train car. The Crowne Plaza Hotel has a pool inside the hotel, but when our family visited, the pool was closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, we trekked around the hotel in search of the "ghosts" that were located throughout all three stories of the hotel: 28 life-sized, white statues that pay homage to the history of the hotel and Union Station. We spotted flapper girls, nuns, shoe-shiners and even a trio of boys trying to hitch a ride on a train. We also walked around Union Station and learned a bit about its long and storied history. It was fun reading the plaques that told about the history of the hotel, and glimpsing the beautiful architecture all around us. Sleeping in a real train hotel room was a fun and unique experience for my family -- one that we'll never forget!

Yelp
This was definitely not the best hotel experience I've ever had, but also not the worst. The staff gets 5 stars but the hotel itself deserves 3. The good: check in was easy, the bed was comfortable, my room was away from the train noise, the hotel bar has great TVs and helpful bartenders. The room for improvement: the bathroom was comically bad. Multiple people on our trip had toilets that wouldn't flush, my toilet bowl leaked water on the floor, and my sink faucet handles also oozed water all over the counters. My AC was broken, which was a bummer when it was 99° outside, but still mostly bearable inside even without it. The quality is not what I'd expect from a crowne plaza but it makes sense since it's a historic building.

Yelp
I was alarmed when I turned off the room air conditioning and the panel covering the air return duct popped open. The attached picture is what I saw. Filthy beyond belief. The filter was dated 2021. Over 2 years old It was late and I had to sleep the night with the heater running. I complained to the front desk and they responded quickly to disinfect the unit and replace the filter. But why wasn't it being done on a regular basis. Shame on them!

Yelp
You have 2 choices. Pay $50 a night to valet, or walk 3 blocks in the middle of the street dragging all your belongings. That's the first problem. I just wouldn't have stayed here if I would have been warned. The parking garage right next to the hotel has been deduced to rubble. None of the ice machines have any ice. So I walked my ice bucket to the front desk & asked if someone at the bar could please fill it up. A very rude woman directed me to the only working ice machine in the hotel, that was REALLY far from our room. The hotel was sold out of double rooms, so we got a king room & requested a cot. I am aware they cots do not have a reputation for comfort, but this one feels like it's filled with rocks. Oh, & also the bathroom has mold on the ceiling. Won't be staying here again. Like, ever. Not even close to being worth $300 per night!!!!! Holy cow.

Yelp
Unfortunately one of the worst hotels I have stayed it due to the trains. Due to the location of this hotel, the south side rooms are DIRECTLY next to the rails. Now, obviously, the hotel had no control over when the trains run, but they could upgrade their windows and walls to help prevent the noise. I'm not talking about a little noise either. If it was only the SHAKING of the room, I could handle it but the trains screech unbearably loud and high pitched due to them trying to slow down. You know the, the noise of metal scrapping metal. ALL NIGHT. It happens ALL night long too. I'm talking about 3-4 trains from 11pm until 7am and then it's regular throughout the day. Unfortunately, we complained to the staff but the hotel was entirely booked up and their solution was to provide us earplugs. Aside from that, the rooms are okay. They have no microwaves (you have to go down to the lobby to use their microwave) and the rooms are a bit dingy. Decent beds and decent pillows though. I highly recommend another hotel as last resort because you're going to get broken sleep if you're near the tracks. Do not get the south side near the tracks.

Yelp
We were here for a convention and We LOVED the vibe of this hotel. The train cars and train station vibe was so cool. The service was amazing and the rooms were great. Our room was right by the room we had the convention in which was super convenient. It is in a great location to explore Downtown Indianapolis. The only downsides were there is no hot tub, we were really looking forward to a hot tub every night. And unfortunately our bed was very hard and uncomfortable. But besides that, we had a great experience and would definitely stay again!

Yelp
I picked this hotel through Expedia based on location and other reviews. The hotel is lovely and historic and the location is great but there are some flaws. There is a train station that runs right next to this hotel and it literally shook our room and made loud noise until about 1:30 a.m. It felt like an Earthquake but it wasn't. We were worried this would last all night and we wouldn't be able to sleep but luckily it ended and we enjoyed quiet time from around 2-10 the next morning. There is a cute lobby bar and the manager on duty gave me two free drink tickets. Very nice! However, the bartender was a very grumpy old man. Not only did he seem to hate his job, but we witnessed him giving some Ohio State fans who were in town to attend the IU/Ohio State football game, a very hard time. Pros- beautiful hotel, great location in downtown Indy, comfy beds, clean, bar and restaurant on site, pool and gym Cons: noisy trains that rattle the rooms, a bit outdated, grumpy bartender.

Yelp
The train car suites were so cool. The breakfast buffet was good. The restaurants are not open all the time and we ate at one of the places couple blocks away for late lunch. The parking is very expensive $45 a night. But the train car suites were so unique! The space is small and narrow but fit two double beds still. The childrens museum is just a couple miles away. There are a lot of restaurants within walking distance and the stadium is connected by a skybridge.

Yelp
The hotel concept is rather cool, the train station integration is unusual. The hotel was under heavy construction when l was visiting for a conference and the passage to my room was like a maze of torn up carpet, lynoleum and workers making it rather hard to get to. After l got to the room, changed clothes and attempted to go the conference area l discovered they the only passage back to the elevator was not completely impassable with lynoleum fully torn up, the floor covered in thick white paint and workers blocking paths. There was no signage to indicate danger or hazard and this l attempted to slowly and carefully navigate the passage. Halfway down l slipped and fell, badly spraining my hamstring and ankle, hitting my hip and ruining my business suit and shoes. I managed to get up and go back to my room, change into basic clean clothes and as the workers saw this they managed to create a narrow passage way for me. I told the front desk what happened, and after a long conversation they agreed to clean my clothes without any interest in or regard for my injuries. I reported the situation to IHG and then the hotel management begrudgingly reached out to me and offered 10k points, which after me pointing out that the situation where l was endangered and physically harmed due to lack of signage, extreme negligence and indifference, disturbing lack of care and is an event that absolutely exposes them to legal liability in an act of what they thought to be insane generosity they offered 20k points. They further suggested that if l was able to provide pictures and doctors report they would pass it on to their insurance, but as l was there to work l did not take the time to document the incident, and thus this was the end of it. At no time did they offer the bare basic courtesy of comping my stay, offering any other assistance or being helpful in any way. Stay at your own risk, understand that the management is not helpful, sympathetic or reasonable and if you get injured or harmed in any way due to their explicit actions and negligence expect to get nothing.

Yelp
This is an OLD building with A LOT of real history. Do not expect the bells and whistles of a 5-star resort, be real about your expectations. The train cars are amazing-I still can't believe they were real operational at one point. The staff was very welcoming and kind. The $47 for parking was ridiculous and took away from us being able to spend that money at a local restaurant or souvenir shop. The reason I'm giving a 5-star rating is because I specifically went to stay at a train-car hotel. The space was clean, accommodating and met my expectations for a visit. Room for improvements? Cuts that parking cost or sneak it in the hotel cost so I don't have sticker shock upon arrival. Please host a host history tour-don't charge, encourage tips only. Also, it was in a great location, close to lots of cool places to eat and things to do and the express way.

Yelp
Isabel and Krista at the front desk are treasures! Excellent, above and beyond customer service from both. The breakfast buffet was worse than bad. Meats, fruits, and cheeses that had been out for over 3 hours, at least! Meats, like the bacon, were ice cold and jerky like texture, cheeses like warm bricks, and fruit had lost all color and juice. They were all just sitting on the bar on serving plates. The cold had no way of being kept cold, and the warm no way of being kept warm. They're renovating the lobby so not sure if that plays into the poor care of the food, but...Had to pay $15 for that "buffet", and pretty sure food poisoning is in my future, or for the next patron who eats it However, the server, who I think was Asa (?) was fantastic!! The train car room was pretty cool and very comfortable! Another let down was there is no longer a pool. The major reasons we chose this hotel was its location to everything downtown, and the cool pool it shows on the website. That pool is gone and will not be replaced, but the hotel lobby and website still say it exists...We checked out a day early because there just didn't seem to be any incentive to stay. Great location, pretty cool train station theme, cool statues inside, bad breakfast, no luxuries or real amenities, overall good customer service.

Yelp
This isn't a five star hotel, but for the type of hotel it is (Older, a bit shabby, but still very nice...like a movie star past her prime but still retaining the elegance and charm of yesteryear) we enjoyed it very much. The check in people were so nice and welcoming. In fact, every employee we interacted with seemed like it was their goal to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Not a grouch to be found! I had my service dog with me and had read that this hotel doesn't accept dogs (Except of course service dogs are allowed everywhere.) when checking in, no one even mentioned her, nor asked me any questions. There was a big gun show in town at the time, so maybe they were worried that some of their guests were on edge? :) The room itself was nice enough, with a cute red couch and a nice writing desk. The bed was comfortable and the pillows serviceable. (We had brought a couple from home as well.) The tub drained verrrrry slowly, but it didn't really bother us. I wish they had updated the electrical outlets in the room to have some to plug your electronics in directly, but luckily we had brought a couple of the square plug in adapters. Speaking of which, even the regular sockets were installed onto the lights at an odd angle, making it difficult to keep laptops with large plugs properly inserted. The first night I woke up terrified because I thought there was some sort of storm or something wrong with the building. It turns out they are very near a train route and the trains coming through are loud (And scary if you don't know what they are.) When I inquired at the front desk the following day they told me about the train station and that they used to tell people checking in, but now they don't. I highly recommend they begin again. Just outside the hotel, and in various public areas there are adorable white statues of people involved in train side activities, such as a man getting his shoes shined, a boy selling newspapers, and a conductor doing conductor stuff. *lol* The buffet was ok, but the service was awesome. They did have the WORST TONGS EVER in the buffet which made it difficult to get the food we wanted. We estimated they save about 15% just on frustration alone. We would stay here again.

Yelp
My wife and I just stayed two nights here. we went to an Indiana Fever game and we absolutely loved it. Tbe front desk were amazing. Crystal Danika and Leykita were amazing. The hotel itself is gorgeous and perfect if you're enjoying downtown Indianapolis. I can't say enough how welcoming the front desk was! Five stars in our book. Thank you for making my wife's birthday special!

Yelp
Parking was horrible, valet took 60 +minutes on Saturday night. Hotel needs some major maintenance and updates! Staff was awesome!

Yelp
DISGUSTING! Toilet wasn't cleaned. Tub dirty with hairs left in it. Filthy vent. Toilet barely flushes. Lights besides bed do not work. Also, if you park yourself you pay event parking ($30) only good for 12 hours plus normal rates after that. Not the $28 a night rate as advertised.

Yelp
I was in a bind for last-minute hotel reservations for my upcoming DCI trip. As with most people, I booked the Crowne site unseen - it was between Crowne or Holiday Inn and the Crowne Plaza had a slightly cheaper rate. I knew nothing about the hotel until I spoke with a friend who was familiar with the place. It was after speaking with him that I learned this is a real working train depot! They have renovated train cars on their original tracks that have been converted into rooms that guests can reserve. Had I known that, I would have reserved a car! Instead, I reserved a regular room with a king size bed. Let's start from the beginning. I arrived via Lyft around 2:00pm. There was no valet or bellhop in sight - and again, after reading previous reviews, I did not know that there was supposed to be someone there to welcome its guests. So I moseyed on in with my two suitcases and backpack. Thankfully, the doors were automatic; however, there are only stairs closest to the entrances. There is a ramp but I opted just to carry my luggage myself up the stairs as it would have taken me twice as long to weave around the ramp. I was aware check-in was at 4pm. I had called the day prior to inquire about early check-in. The man I spoke with recommended I call the day of my reservation to see if my room would be ready. I walked up to the front desk and a very friendly, welcoming lady (I am horrible with names and regret that I do not remember hers) greeted me warmly. I told her that I knew I was early but wanted to see if my room was ready. After a quick check, she informed me that it was! As I walked towards the elevators, that's when the whole scene opened up: the rails, bars, columns, what have you from the actual train depot! When I got to the second floor, I looked to my left and looked to my right - both sides had the trains with rooms, on their original tracks!!! Made it to my room - not too shabby. A nice king size bed all to myself, work space (I recorded my first vlog there!), mini fridge, the normal amenities. There is also a little snack shop around the corner from the front desk. Or you can be like me and order Amazon Prime same day delivery - a luxury I like to utilize when I visit the mainland. For those who may be wondering, I did not frequent their bar or restaurant so I can't really attest to either. But both seem to be doing really well! A little tip: you can easily (and joyously) get around Indy by renting an inexpensive motorized scooter...They're everywhere! Plus, the hotel is uber conveniently connected to the Convention Center which drops you right at Lucas Oil Stadium. I'll spare the long story, but my flight back home got canceled so I called the front desk and asked if I could possibly get another night...and they said it was no problem! This was a lifesaver as I knew the Colts had a home game that weekend, drum corps, no telling what else was going on that could have prevented me from getting a room anywhere! For that, I am extremely grateful to the Crowne Plaza for their graciousness accommodating my last-minute change. Overall, I actually really loved this quaint hotel and can't wait to make it back to Indy and rent a train car!!!

Yelp
Decent hotel. Front desk was pleasant and easy tonwork with. I stayed in one of the train cars, and here's my experience: Pros: The room was clean and well maintained. I was staying with 3 other people, and at least one of us was in the room when the maids came to clean. They did a decent job despite having someone in the way. Cons: the rooms are very narrow. Not big at all. And the walls are thin as well. Also, since the hotel is right next to Union Station, you can hear and feel the trains as they move past. Staying in these rooms are more for bragging than for actual comfort. Overall, its a good hotel. I was here during GenCon50, so there was a lot going on. Cool train station feel.

Yelp
I will give this hotel 5 stars. I've stayed in many many hotels on this side of the globe and have enjoyed staying here more than anywhere. So many reasons: *It is unique... pleasing to the eye The trains in the hallways are not something one usually sees... and you can stay in them as well! *It is pretty quiet... no people talking in the hallways that you can hear. And speaking of hallways they are bright and don't Make me feel claustrophobic * staff is great... friendly, nonsnobbish, well informed, not in your face yet at hand to help, kind * clean... did I mention this hotel is very clean? *tv's are easy to use, unlike some places that you need to call the desk to find out how to find anything *the place doesn't shake in the slightest breeze. You feel like you are on solid ground even on the upper floors. And I could go on. The restaurant Taggarts is in the hotel and that's another 5 star report.

Yelp
Great place to stay. Walking distance to the mall, several restaurants and other things to do. Parking is convenient but expensive. Staff are friendly. The bar is nice but the bar tender could be friendlier. The room was clean. The pool was kind of cold.

Yelp
I'm not one to leave reviews- but feel I should after our experience. We enjoyed a great stay at this hotel in June for a family vacation to some zoos and museums. We were traveling with a 4 year old, 6 year old, and 6 month old baby. After one night, we ditched our plans to get a different hotel in Cincinnati when we visited their zoo, opting instead to drive the hour and a half back to the Crown Plaza and extend our stay. I actually made and error in how many extra nights I asked for (said 1 but should've been 2 extra nights), but the front desk was helpful on making the change and ensuring we could even stay in the same room, which was a huge help with not having to repack and move kids around! We used the overnight valet service and they were very helpful! Each night when we parked, we told them about what time we were leaving the next day and the had our vehicle pulled up, ready to go. We also had a lot of packing / unpacking to day each time, but they never made us feel rushed. I also want to compliment the housekeeping service. With 2 kids (who love their snacks) and a baby (lots of diapers), we requested daily housekeeping on the first day. We always came back to a fresh room and they even set all of their stuffies up in a cute arrangement on the bed- the kids were so excited to see that when they came back! All of this customer service was great to top off what's already an awesome, historical stay. While having a room next to the pool could get loud, we were so exhausted at the end of each day, it didn't keep us up. Beds were comfy and soft, no issues with sleeping for anyone. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with our stay, the service, and the staff at this location and will stay again if we are ever back in the area.

Yelp
This was not my best hotel experience and I would never go again. Problems I had: 1. When checked in at midnight nobody was manning the front desk. 2. They gave me a 2 queen room instead of the King I ordered. 3. The room's window opened up to the floor level indoor waiting room, something like you'd see in a motel rather than a hotel. It made me have to draw the shades 24/7 which made me feel like I was in that horror movie hotel room that you could never get out of. 4. No room service at all. 5. The area surrounding the hotel is a little dodgy. 6. They would not grant me a late check out. Not a huge deal, but I felt the answer was canned and I felt like the desk person just didn't want to be bothered. 7. Possibly Stolen items from my room. I'll let you decide based on the facts, but I left my phone and laptop chargers in the room. Since I was forced to check out early I had time to go back and ask them for them and after going back to the room which was wide open and a bag with towels was by the front door, presumably being cleaned, I noticed the cords were gone. I waited about 15 minutes for guest services to call around and 3 people and one guy came back and said he had only found my fire stick remote, but no cords. This leads me to believe that someone from the staff went into the room and stole them otherwise why wouldn't it have been immediately put into a designated lost and found box. If it was stolen this seems like a stupid thing to steal and lose public credibility and trust over.

Yelp
We reserved a 2 room suite for my birthday. It would have been my husband, 3 kids, and me. Short story...they gave it to someone else. So, 5 of us in a regular room. It wasn't horrible and they did give us a roll away bed. In addition, I had to find security at 1:50am because a group of people was having a good time in the seating area right outside of our room. Security immediately handled it, but I shouldn't have had to go get them. Everyone was very nice, but I wouldn't recommend this place.

Yelp
Rooms were up to date. Complimentary infused water. Small snack bar. Somewhat pricey breakfast bar. VERY EXPENSIVE parking, with no alternative option. Loved the uniqueness with the old train cars.

Yelp
This is a great hotel in downtown Indy. It's right downtown and within walking distance of a lot of things.

Yelp
This place was a last minute booking on our travels. It was clean and pretty cool. It's the first union station in the United States. They have old train cars you can sleep in as well. Justify machines with a variety of coffee to choose from. It's downtown Indianapolis so well within walking distance of restaurants and Bars.

Yelp
The Crowne Plaza is a clean and comfortable hotel, located next to the convention center in Indianapolis. Our room was pleasant and tidy. Service was good at the front desk and in the 123 West lounge. The hotel is in a converted train station, which gives it a unique atmosphere. You can even stay in a room in a train car, if you wish. I had one odd complaint, and I'll admit this is just a matter of personal taste. The hotel is filled with white lifesize statues of old-fashioned people, and they're meant to evoke the train station's past. I'm sure many people love them, but I found them cheesy and a little creepy. You turn a corner and run face to face into a ghostly white apparition of a nun, child or conductor. I'm not a believer in ghosts and I wasn't spooked, but I found the effect of these pale, spectral, inert phantoms unpleasant.
