Stayed here for San Diego Comic Con in July of 2025. It was my first time staying at this hotel so I was a little hesitant. While the hotel is a little older, it has been upkept to great condition. The beds are comfortable, rooms are clean. The bathroom actually had a solid door which I feel like is unheard of in new, modern hotels. Even better, there was a fan in the bathroom. My only complaint was that the water pressure was really low. That being said, the temperature got nice and warm very quickly and we never ran out of warm water. The staff was attentive and very kind. I will for sure be booking here again next year.

The room was nice; it seemed to be recently updated. The property as a whole was in mixed condition. The breakfast buffet was the level I would expect to be included with the room at a motel (plain scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, potatoes, dry pasties, boxed cereal, yogurt). I would have just gone to Starbucks instead of paying $100 for my family to eat at the buffet if I had seen the offering first.

While located in a great spot for Downtown San Diego the Crowne Plaza is anything but royalty. The ADA rooms have the most terrible beds, my back felt like I was sleeping on rocks the entire time I was there. Make matters worse when we got to our room. Our air conditioning wasn’t even working. We called the room service right away and they told us they’d have someone up. However, we waited a couple hours before we were heading out to dinner and no one had came we had to call room service again at 11 o’clock at night to have someone come check our hot room and then get them to fix the AC. All they could do was offer a small apology. They didn’t care that our room had been caught for over six hours. Not only that but the hotel nickel and dime you anyway that it can. On-site parking? $25 a day, so a four day stay is $100 just for parking. And don’t forget about the security deposit four days, $400! About the only saving grace to this hotel was the nightly price. I’ll never be staying here again though.

We stayed 5 nights, had a wonderful experience. Staff was friendly, Juan one of the restaurant staff was especially great and made our days! Room was great, patio view was nice, breakfast buffet was $22 so that was extremely expensive but it was real eggs, potatoes, bacon, etc. They incorporated a large koi pond, waterfalls by the breakfast area, grass and rock garden walkways, it was all pretty and we enjoyed walking around the grounds.

Google
Convenient location, clean rooms, beautiful central atrium, nice front desk staff. The rooms could definitely use some TLC. We had our bathroom fixtures coming off of the wall and it was difficult to engage the shower head because of outdated/worn hardware. There was one day where we had no hot water for the showers which was annoying. The walls are thin so you can basically hear your neighbors doing anything. Unfortunately for us, our neighbors loved opening and closing the balcony sliding doors all night long. Also, the $25/night parking fee is annoying and should be reflected in the total price. The vast majority of parking spots were painted with compact vehicles only in mind. Door dings are a guarantee unless you park further away from the building. Also they offer breakfast but it is not complimentary, just a heads up.

This was one of those rare hotels that made me feel completely at home. The staff knew my name by the second day, and they always asked if I needed anything. My room was bright, clean, and full of light during the day. The neighborhood was quiet, but everything I needed was within walking distance. It was a peaceful, easy, and very human experience — something you don’t get in big chain hotels.

Pros: -A good value for the room and proximity to many great San Diego attractions. -Nice central courtyard and pool. The grounds feel like an okay Hawaiian resort, with tropical greenery and some outdoor seating areas. -Everyone in our party slept great all 4 nights we were here. That’s worth a lot! -Great food and beverage staff, especially Juan, Ariane and Danny at breakfast. -Good place to bring kids. They loved the pool, snack shop in the lobby, and the stray cat who hangs around out front, Charley. Cons: -Next to the freeway and the freeway noise is constant, but you get used to it. -We finally figured out on the last day that you can connect to transit via the 88 bus stop out front—so that oversight is our own fault—but otherwise, it feels a little far from fun/walkabilty so I’d recommend staying closer to the coast or in a notable neighborhood like Old Town. -Nice pool but no poolside services. -It’s just a little dingy and dated. I heard it was recently renovated but I can’t tell. It must have been really bad before the renovation. Our room smelled a little funny. -Housekeeping in the public spaces was mediocre and the koi ponds have way too much algae. -The front desk service was hit and miss. Some folks were very friendly, some seemed annoyed to be asked any questions. At one point I needed maintenance and couldn’t get anyone to pick up the phone. Mostly they were helpful, but it was sporadic. Overall, 3 stars. I recommend it if you’re not too picky about cleanliness or being able to walk to restaurants, and you’re looking for a good value with a nice pool.

We stayed here a week ago and came home with bug bites all over our bodies. We did find a bug in our bed and requested all our bedding changed. The housekeeping didn’t change our comforter or pillow cases. There was no microwave. Location was great and close to all attractions, the large pool and hot tub was nice! However, the $25/day fee to park was crazy and the parking sucked. The parking spots were so small. Front desk staff were nice too! But hotel room need updated and cleaned properly and exterminated. We will not stay here again

Yelp
I always thought Crown Plaza was a good hotel brand but this particular hotel was not what I expected. 1. very outdated and old looking You will not see it in the pictures they post, but once you're here, you can see that it needs a lot of renovations in the room and through the property. 2. The hot water in the shower took forever to become hot. I thought I wasn't going to get any not water but finally it came. Although once I got the hot water, the pressure went down! 3. We were waiting for our Lyft ride early morning, and the sliding door in the lobby kept opening and closing, and there was no one around to trigger it! We were sitting in the lobby waiting and we were really cold. 4. Since I'm an IHG member, our night was free because I used some points. And I did get a couple of perks, so that was at least something. They brought in a microwave for us, which we appreciate. And we got bottles of water and a couple snacks. 5. Staying here was just okay, but honestly, I don't think I'll stay here again even if it was free. The location wasn't ideal and the hotel just needed to be updated. 6. The staff/customer service was good though, which we appreciate.

Yelp
For me, three stars is not very positive, perhaps two stars would have been more appropriate but let me break it down, and you decide. First, some background. We were there for three nights, and I had a wonderful time while I was there but not necessarily because of any attributes of the hotel. There were some definite positives, however. They included one of the most beautiful pools I have seen in a hotel, ever. And the interior grounds were pretty and extremely well kept. Service was also a plus as both the front desk and meal servers provided intelligent, warm, and friendly service. But there were also significant drawbacks in the food service area. First, they do not serve lunch, and the breakfast and dinner menus were very limited. But worse, it wasn't just a lack of variety. The meals were for the most part mediocre at best. Very tough breakfast steak, cold coffee served, and bland dinners. I see this place currently as a convention hotel. So why the beautiful pool kids would love? Simple answer, it was there. I'm not even sure they have a children's menu. Will we return? Probably not unless we discover the meal situation was remedied.

Yelp
We stayed there every time we go to San Diego and the last time we went was a horrible experience and the security and the management was rude and they did not handle the problem so never again and I recommend for people with kids do not stay there it's a dangerous place bc no one watching there kids there and mom son was in the stroller sleeping until a kids thru a bottle of water and thank God it misses his stroller it's could have killed my baby and when I told the management he told me there's nothing he can do let security know what happened and they will handle it are u for real that's how they conduct business after charging us $250 a night to stay there

Yelp
The place is ok for a quick stay but nothing special about it. It's a bit expensive for the atmosphere it looks like it needs some remodeling

Yelp
The ship has sailed on this hotel formerly known as the Hanalei. I love the old Tiki vibe and have loved attending Tiki Oasis here the past 6 years. But they were long in the tooth and it was a matter of time before Tiki Oasis found better digs to host their epic event. Bye Crowne Plaza. Thanks for the memories.

Yelp
The hotel is now being used to provide shelter for new immigrants and these guests are unfairly treated. The California State pays this hotel to provide shelter to these guests, however the treatment that they receive is far from "guest like". Staff opens guests' packages and removes any medications and any items at their own discretion. I sent a package for a friend who was staying at the hotel and because the package arrived 1 day after the guest was gone, package was opened and items were distributed among the staff, instead of returning the package to the sender. It is illegal to open any packages addressed to another person. I spoke with one of the members of the staff: Mary Toscano and she said, and I quote "items from the package were discarded". No other hotel does this to my knowledge. These actions are unfair and even illegal.

Yelp
What a dump! This used to be my favorite place to stay when traveling with my dog to San Diego but this last stay will be the last time I stay here! They charge a $75 cleaning fee for having a dog, that's a fair cleaning fee normally however the carpet in my hotel room is so disguising that my dog didn't even want to be on it!! The edges of the carpet are coming up all around the room and it is filthy! (See photos) It's insulting to pay a cleaning fee for this disgusting room. Service is awful too! I called for 5 minutes straight to request a quick room refresh (remove trash and replace towels) to no answer. I finally walked over to the front desk, waited 15 minutes to speak to someone. During that time, I texted the customer service number listed on the wall and that response is still pending (50 minutes now). Dog owners beware, check your dog for fleas. My dog picked up fleas from this stay. As I type this, I'm looking for a different hotel.

Yelp
Checked in on Monday with the Front Desk Supervisor Murtadha. I now know why he has the position he does, he has definitely earned it. Murtadha greeted me as an IHG member right away, was able to check me in and assist me with details I needed clarity on. Following the check in process I noticed that Happy Hour started at 4 PM as I had not eaten all day and was scheduled to do dinner with colleagues around 6:30 PM. So after putting my things in the room I came back down to The Islands bar area to order some Happy Hour food. However, the only items were sushi and the worker at the sushi bar indicated that nobody had made rice for the day so it would be a couple of hours before sushi was ready. At this point I felt misled because that is what I was there for. So I went to my man Murtadha to explain what was going on. He resolved and accommodated all issues perfectly. Upon my return from dinner later that evening he also finished the details on my stay for the night. This guy is going places and if I was this company I would continue to let him grow and flourish as he is saving business. The hotel itself is decent. There is a view of a car parking lot, along with the freeway and a view of the pool on the balcony. The rooms are outdated to include the closets and bathrooms. The buffet breakfast is like most other competitors. They had yogurt parfait with granola and berries that was really solid. Checkout was smooth. Overall if I were to stay here again it would be strictly for the service.

Yelp
I was part of a 2.5 day class for my industry here and while I thought a former class was held in a bad hotel- this definitely was worse. Way worse. Not only is the parking lot ridiculous with having limited in/out even for actual guests, the conference amenities offered were barely passable. The on-site eatery was overpriced and had such limited food options that I'm fairly certain I'd never recommend the place to family unless desperate. This was especially annoying since you can't leave unless you want to pay twice for parking. The sad part is that the place has some cool features but it just appears that the staff (who was also rude to us event guests) just doesn't seem to care. In a town with so many options, you need to do a better job at conferences to attract the business and this just doesn't cut it. ETA: The manager is not entirely right- both eateries had limited choices on the days I was there. There was definitely not that many options- and if there were they were not offered. The express menu options were not as quick as they should have been- and have been at other conferences in the nearby area.

Yelp
Review for their conference rooms. I attended a business meeting here so this review is for those of you planning on having an event / party / business meeting. My meeting was midweek and we seemed to be the only booked event here. That was actually a good thing as we free reign over the bathrooms ( nothing worse that everyone taking a break at the same time and the bathrooms are full). It sucks, but this places has private "Pay" parking lots. Everyone pays here apparently, hotel guests and people renting conference rooms. The room itself was adequate, but I was surprised there wasn't any paper or pens provided by this hotel. Not really business oriented. We were situated next to a kitchen of some sort and we could hear clanging and some type of ice machine. Not a big deal. The lunch boxes ( A staple of business meetings) comprised of roast beef boxes and mystery boxes. Apparently, the boxes without stickers were Turkey, but in reality they were just being lazy by only putting stickers on one of two lunch options. The box consisted of chips, an orange, the sandwich, and a bag of grandma's chocolate chips. The sandwich at first glace looked like vending machine quality, but the reality was that they were pretty good. The bun was large, but they were generous with the meat. So, they are recommended. - Clean bathrooms - Food boxes were good - One of the rooms was being prepped for a wedding reception or something and it looked very nice..

Yelp
Shabby, dirty, outdated decor. Has a weird 70's Tiki vibe which would be cool if they actually did it right and if there wasn't crud all over the glass elevator windows and trash in the strange indoor courtyard. I'm ok with the fact that the building is old, but it needs to be maintained (like painting, fixing broken pieces of the hotel...) The lobby / bar smelled like it needed a good cleaning/bleaching. The elevators don't work properly. Parking is paid. And really anyone can come wander around the hotel guest rooms. The room was ok once inside, but the curtains were stained, the chairs on the patio mis-matched (and from the 70s) and there were burn holes on the table. One of the housekeeping staff took a white dress from my room that was never returned to me. At first I thought it was an honest mistake (thinking it was a towel) but the hotels lack of concern or follow up was frustrating. They just didn't find it. No offer of compensation or even a mention that they would speak with staff to be more careful in the future. This is definitely not what I have come to expect from Crowne Plaza and I am pretty disappointed.

Yelp
Maybe one star is not fair, but when I really think about the brand, there are ZERO excuses to why this hotel/motel is in desperate need of a makeover. Someone from HGI Corporate needs to step foot in this place, because the level of care is missing. We checked in with a corporate code for a Double Executive room... I did not see anything executive about our room. Curtains were ripped down the middle, room still had trash on the floor and in the drawers, the AC was NOT working, remote missing for the television, and the room had the classic musty motel smell. We requested a new room, but the property was booked up. We could not open the balcony doors because no screens/bug protector were on the balcony doors. Luckily our room code came with parking, because I would be pissed to pay for that awful parking lot. Spaces were so small, you will have to allow passengers out, close the mirrors, and pull in and hope you are skinny enough to squeeze out the door. If its a nice car, you may have dents from other people doors. Some SUVs have to park in two spaces. Common areas were outdated, waterfall fountain needed a cleaning, and the green spaces is poorly maintain. Palm tree leaves cover the side walks and walkways. Elevator was dirty, barely worked, skipped floors, and the staircase was scary. The only good thing about this place was the complimentary breakfast buffet that came with our room code. It was pretty big breakfast buffet and the wait staff was nice. HGI better pull their name off this hotel fast because it is worse than a Budget Inn. In fact, I think Motel 6 would have been a better option. Won't return here again. If you can't replace torn curtains, that shows how much care you have for the hotel. Curtains... a simple fix left for the next guest to check in and see!

Yelp
Got a smoking deal on Expedia for 2 nights for a Marine retirement at nearby Miramar. We arrived at about 11:30 am on Friday. Check in wasn't until 3:00 but they had a room available so they let us check in. One bonus star for that alone. The grounds of the hotel are cheesy 80's Polynesian style but landscaping was manicured, pool sparkling. Entering our room it was very clean and bedding and towels bright white. Complaint, when making a reservation for any hotel they ask for the number of people that will be staying in the room. Please don't only give 2 towels when you book a double. I use 2 towels by myself. Our room was equipped with a microwave, small refrigerator, ironing board, coffee maker and blow dryer. Only 1 chair on the balcony. 2 restaurants downstairs and a small store with snacks and bevs. We had a light dinner in the Islands Lounge. Hoisin wings were cloyingly sweet to the point 3 of us left 4 of the order of 10. Wouldn't recommend. Lava cake was typical mass produced dessert. This restaurant is strictly for convenience and I wouldn't recommend. Overall our stay was wonderful and I would recommend to family and friends. Vending and ice machines on every floor too. Quiet, even though hotel was busy. The main drawback is the charge for daily parking when the lot is huge. If I can use my room key to access the gate I don't think I should have to pay to park my vehicle as a paying hotel guest. And they add $40 a day to your card for incidentals. I will see if they credit the $80.

Yelp
I got a great deal on this hotel!! How, you ask? I waited to book it on the same day I was traveling. Of course I had another room reserved as my primary hotel, but I cancelled it at the last minute once I knew a room at Crowne Plaza was available. Rooms were normally going for $400/night, but I got on with a nice view for $140. I would not recommend paying anymore than $140/night for a room at this hotel!! There was a little bit of a rough crowd at this hotel, esp considering how much they were trying to charge per night. Pros: the hotel grounds are well kept (landscaping, pool, spa, etc). Located close to Old Town San Diego. Private parking lot. Cons: my room seemed old and ran down (check out the pic of the ironing board I left)! Breakfast not included. Room was dirty when I arrived. Overall, the room was okay but I would come back here in the future. If pick a newer and cleaner location for the o

Yelp
Originally booked the room (King Deluxe) for one night. Once there decided to stay another since it was clean and comfortable. We stayed in the quiet zone which really wasn't as quiet as I thought it would be. I didn't request that section but was glad I did since that meant other areas were probably much noisier. I did not like paying for parking - after spending a certain amount of money per night in a hotel I would think they would give you a voucher (at the very least). Ordered room service (cheeseburger with fries) which came very quickly and was delicious. Really liked that they provided a refrigerator, microwave, coffee, iron and ironing board with the room without having to request it. Would definitely stay here again if I returned to San Diego.

Yelp
Ugh - such a horrible experience. I wish I could give no stars - but I do have to say that the staff were friendly and the hotel does offer some perks to "Aloha" club members such as breakfast, dinner, 20% off at the dining establishments, etc. Overall - this is a large hotel with a lot of rooms and a nice big walkway area in the center which is styled like a Hawaii garden or something with greenery and fountains with tiki heads. They have citrus water in the lobby, newspapers delivered to the room daily, and free wifi. That's where the good is going to stop for me though because my experience was bad, bad, bad. I was placed in a room on the top level - 8 - which directly faced the busy interstate and I could hear cars constantly driving by - the rooms aren't very sound-proof. I could hear clicking sounds or something from the people playing board games in the room adjacent to mine (with the shared door) and could hear the doors slamming in the halls all night - I was also just off the elevator and the walls shook whenever nearby doors closed - violently as I was woken up at 4am by a slamming door the first night and couldn't get back to sleep for an hour. The room was moderately clean - at first glance - though a bit worn and in need of a serious update. The carpets are dark and old and worn, in my room (1828) in particular there were stains and spots on the floor that looked like shiny old gum stains. The toilet clogged and had paper in it that wouldn't flush the first night - the far left sink (there were two thank goodness) clogged up and wouldn't drain at all for an entire night. I called to have both issues corrected while I was out at work for the day at NASNI and they had been fixed when I came back late that night around 9pm. My biggest issue, and one that really ruined it for me, was the nasty yellow pee/body fluid stains on the mattress cover. I always take the sheets off the bed and look at the mattress as well as lifting up the mattress to check for bugs. When I took the sheets off I could see a HUGE yellow fluid stain on the mattress cover right on the side of the bed I'd sleep on - the right side by the nightstand. I was so exhausted after 15+ hours of travel - I simply covered it back up and slept on the other side and tried to stay on that side all night without touching or crossing over. I also reported this the next morning and when I came back to the room the following night - it had been fixed and a new cover was put on - but it was on upside down with the sticker for the foot of the bed at the head where my pillows were - so that I was also something I was grossed out by. One of the elevators in the long hall stopped working while I was staying here. I did have the Aloha club breakfast and it was decent - not special - but it was the normal hotel-included breakfast fare. I ate sushi at the sushi bar my first night and was given the 20% off - but it was still REALLY expensive - I think $35 for a seaweed salad and one roll of sushi. The sushi was out fast and my server was kind - but I was taken aback by the prices for a hotel sushi bar.... The location was near the mall and some shopping - close to the interstate and centrally located - but the hotel itself was a place I was deeply unhappy at, felt dirty and nasty by staying in, and did not get a good night's sleep any of the three nights I stayed because I could hear traffic and hallway noises. I would not recommend at all to anyone - ever.

Yelp
What is going on here? The fences and gates with guards make it look like a fortress. We stayed in this hotel when we first moved to San Diego and now it feels unwelcoming and unsafe.

Yelp
Had to stay at this hotel because my business fraternity was hosting their regionals here. Let's start off by their horrible nonexistent WiFi. There WiFi literally does not work so for all the business professionals out there be WARNED! We had a keynote speaker in one of their conference rooms and we couldn't even connect to the WiFi to complete her presentation. Especially if your hotel is catered for business conferences please have legit WiFi and not one that works for 3 mins and then stops working. Now the rooms. TBH the rooms were okay but the bed sheets had stains on them. There was a nice balcony patio area but everyone from the courtyard can see you so there really isn't any privacy. We also had to keep our curtains shut for most of the time because everyone can see what your doing. The layout reminds me of a bootleg version of Hawaii. So I guess that's their theme. The names of their conference rooms are also named after Hawaiian inspired names. If it wasn't for the conference I probably would never choose to stay here. Oh and be warned there's a lot of bugs and spiders lurking around.

Yelp
The most comfortable bed ever! Love that they have coffee pot, refrigerator, and microwave in the room! Such a snob, but these are my lil necessities when we are away from home. How about the Adult Recess time for pool and Happy Hour specials. Only down side its from 4pmto6pm ughhh. Property is very big,had to follow the map. 7th floor is beautiful scenic view overlooking pool area. Although I did face the freeway, the noise was not a problem. I haven't tried room service or the Food here yet. They have a private parking with security, which I dislike paying $13, but way cheaper then other places we stay at. I believe my hubby booked it on his Expedia,so affordable, plus great location. We have access to freeway, easy to Mission Valley shopping mall, and Old Town. Great place for a lil RxR.

Yelp
The Bad: We had an issue w/heater not heating. Called guest services @12:15am to report because the room was cold. They were going to send someone to fix, & bring extra blankets if they couldn't because they were all booked. They never came out & we had a cold and restless night. The Bad: We checked out from our room and headed out. As we were leaving the parking, we didn't have any way to exit as we had left our room key in the room to recycle it's use. We pushed the help button and was told that we would have to walk to the lobby to get a card to exit. Wish the person who checked us out from our room would've mentioned that ESPECIALLY because they knew we had overnight parked due to the charge. Very inconvenient to have to park and walk all the way to lobby and wait in line. The Ugly: I've stayed in a motel that had rooms better than this. There were visible cobwebs and the ceiling looked as if there was mold in the corner. Some of these websites that show ratings are skewed, because I booked via Priceline and was not given the opportunity to rate via the website on things that were rated. There ratings make this place seem better than it is. Hopefully Priceline takes responsibility for this also. I do not recommend this "hotel" that should be a 1 star motel at best. Also, I took some time to read some reviews on other sites, and wonder why the management isn't doing ANYTHING to address these issues. So many things I'd do differently to take pride in managing and bring life to crowne Plaza, especially when the reviews are all saying the same thing.

Yelp
One of the better hotels I've stayed at. Pros: -Sushi restaurant inside and it's pretty decent, pricey during regular hours but they offer happy hours on certain items -Hawaiian theme, great to take photos . Mini waterfall and tiki stuff on the way to my room -Clean pool, towels always available -If you stay for business, they give you a government lounge card which allows you to eat the buffet breakfast/dinner and you get two drink cards. During the weekend you get to order up to $18 worth of food and drink or use 20% discount at the restaurant inside the hotel. -Front desk is friendly -Hotel drivers are nice, they will help you out if they can -Stayed in room with a beautiful view of the pool area -Plenty of elevators around -Hotel is clean and staff is friendly Cons: -Laundry room only uses quarters but there's no quarter change machines inside that room, you have to walk to the front desk and ask for change.... which could be a hassle if you already carried all your clothes downstairs and have a lot. -Cleaning service is mediocre, they actually used one of my store plastic bag to cover the trash can instead of their own. They didn't change my sheets even if they seen how dirty it was (because of my baby boy, he's a messy eater) They threw out a pizza box that still had pizza inside that was left on my bed. (I leave all my trash on the side on the floor) -Parking is a tight squeeze! When they made this parking lot, they wanted to make the most out of the space cause the lines for the parking just perfectly or even barely fits your car! Everyone is tightly squished together and I'm speaking mainly of the back back parking area for hotel guest -Most of the time you have to find a staff member to help you at the store they have inside the hotel, there's not someone always there even when it's open

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel from 6/16-6/19 for an educational conference. The conference was being held at several of the hotels on Hotel Circle, and this was one of them. Last year, my accommodations were made for me at the Handlery; this year, I was more pleased with my stay in San Diego, at least insofar as lodging was concerned. I arrived late-- 12:45 in the morning-- and the gentleman working the desk was cheerful and polite. Elevators were convenient, and the lobby had a comfortable sitting by area. The restaurant and pool areas were also nice. As for the rooms, I was booked in a double queen room. Upon entry, the room appeared clean, with a desk area, a flatscreen TV with HBO and other cable channels, coffee pot, and a small fridge. The fridge never really got cold. When I took a shower, I found a crusty washcloth on top of the curtain rod that I guess housekeeping missed... Slightly gross, but not a big deal. The carpet had a big dark stain, but mostly I just slept in the bed and went to my conference, so no biggie there either. A few minor drawbacks with parking-- I drive a big truck, so the parking structure didn't accommodate me. The only other option is to park in the oversized lot behind the parking structure... Only problem there, is that there are about 15 spots and all of them seem better suited for a compact vehicle. It was almost comical watching guys like me trying to get in and out of their vans and trucks with the doors less than a foot apart from each other. The price of the hotel is pretty high, but you're really paying for location. On top of that, overnight parking is a whopping $18 a day. It probably would have been cheaper to take the train down and then use Uber to get around... Which we did anyway. Compared to last year, I was generally pleased. I brought my bike to travel between hotels for different sessions of the conference, and the hotel staff did not bat an eye when I rolled my two wheeler through their lobby several times. Besides, there was not really anywhere to park and lock a bicycle outside. I don't think I would stay here with my family, or choose this hotel over other prettier locations. But if I have to return to Hotel Circle for work, this is one of the better options.

Yelp
I recently stayed for the 2nd time and and reminded why I enjoy it so much. 1. The front desk staff didn't look at my like I was crazy when I asked why they didn't have the NASA channel. 2. The bartender helped me out with making a wine bottle purchase look fantastic so I could give it as a gift. 3. The room was quiet and I appreciated the balcony with the golf course view. 4. All of the trees and greenery. When you use the elevator and descend from above to below the trees in the courtyard, a sense of relaxation comes over you. Clearly my new favorite property in SD.

Yelp
0 stars!!!!!!! Came to this hotel for the Fourth of July, and also for my 2 year anniversary. Was told we would get 2 beds, and a great room, got the smallest room and it got even worse. July 5th was when my girlfriend and I got up and just left. Three other rooms, including ours, was starting to smell like PAINT or SHARPIE. A family under us, who is from Tucson, Arizona, was fighting with one of the workers to get another room. The only answer this man gave us "we are sold out of rooms" so like what the heck are we supposed to do? The family ended up packing their stuff and leaving, hopefully to somewhere safe. My girlfriend and I left as well, gave us a FULL REFUND, and then went to her aunts house for the rest of the weekend. Staff there is nice. Other than this, would not recommend. Horrible experience and plays too much.

Yelp
In response to the business owner, Tom, the rooms may be checked with canines trained to sniff out bed bugs, but the efficacy of that has been denied by scientific articles. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/26470083/

Yelp
I had no idea a sushi bar would ever be inside a hotel which was awesome. The chef was very knowledgeable on the menu. They have about 10 different rolls which was not a lot but can't complain for it being inside a hotel.

Yelp
Stayed here for comic-con 2017, picked this hotel because it was one of the hotels in the comic-con block, and the price was reasonable for comic-con weekend. The negatives Hotels in San Diego are difficult to find during Comic-Con and the prices are usually significantly higher than other times of the year, the Crown Plaza was not exception, the rates were higher than other times of the year but only by about $40.00 per night, many hotels will double or triple their rates for major events. The hotel has a Hawaiian theme, if you don't like Hawaiian themes you may not like the hotel, if you do or are indifferent then you will love this hotel. Now the stuff you really want to know, The Staff - During our 4 day stay I don't think there was a single time that a staff member did not great me with a cheerful "hello sir, or good morning/evening sir", everyone was friendly and personable. From the front desk, to the maintenance people and the restaurant staff. Breakfast Buffet - Included in our room rate, Overall it was a decent buffet, hot and cold cereal, Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Fruit Toast, Muffins, etc. The eggs were generally cooked well but did have a few watery spots, not bad for bulk eggs at a buffet, the meats and potatoes were good, selection of fruit was nice but not overdone. Didn't have a chance to eat at the hotel restaurant for lunch or dinner, but the prices were in line with prices at other hotel restaurants. Front Desk - Top Shelf staff, on top of everything, quick and easy check in and check out. There is an text messaging service that they advertise in the elevator, if you need anything just text, used it twice, once to fix the TV remote that was not working, and once to order towels from housekeeping. Both times, responses back from the front desk within a minute or two of my initial text and then the requested item was replaced or delivered to the room in very short order. Extra bonus points for the text service and how well it works. Rooms - Average size with a small fridge and microwave, beds were very comfortable, not too hard not too soft, Noise level - The hotel is right next to the freeway and a busy road, however the rooms and the property in general are very quite, Pool and Hot Tub - Located in a beautiful courtyard they are both heated and relaxing, Interior Atrium has a Koi pond and waterfall, (waterfall is turned off at night) some bridges and tables to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet Bottom line, the Crown Plaza works hard to earn your business, and on this trip they did an exceptional Job, everyone in our party was impressed with the room and service, not the cheapest hotel in town, but up there with some of more expensive properties for service and atmosphere. Without the bonus points for the Staff and text messaging to resolve issues I would give this hotel 4 stars, however when the staff cares it shows, so I'm giving an extra star because of the staff - Management take notice and let all of your staff know they are doing an exceptional job! Highly Recommended - Would stay here again

Yelp
I am so disappointed in this hotel. I used to love to bring my clients here for sushi. However, since they hired a new security staff, I have been completely disappointed. I came to drop off food for my boyfriend while he was quarantined for Covid. Not only did they let my care package melt, they also detained me. So here's the long story short. They told me to make a u turn, yet the u turn was blocked with cones. So I did my best to make a u turn. I was met with chain linked boundaries. So I did my best to turn around and leave the hotel. I came across a couple of men and peoples yelling at me. I then tried to leave. I was then met by a very angry woman who stood in front of my car while demanding me to park. I asked her politely to please move so I could do what she asked of me. She adamantly refused. So I backed up and parked my car. She insisted that I was a drunk driver and that I was "incoherent". All because I was unable to follow their shitty directions. She was so biased that I was a white woman (even though I'm Latina) that it took me to say "my last name is Romero" while a guy was on the phone calling me a "white woman". I couldn't believe it! Finally someone with some sort of sense came around and yelled at everyone for their cone placement. I said "thank you!" Out loud and left the parking space! All of this over dropping off a care packed to my boyfriend and our pup! I also called the hotel after all of this to make sure my boyfriends care package was delivered and they have put my number on hold and have hung up on me. I will NEVER bring my business clients here and I do not suggest this place to EVER do business. I will be informing my clients of how I was treated here. I suggest you do the same.

Yelp
It's a little aged, but it's a nice hotel in a good location. It has a pleasant atmosphere. The theme seems to be a mix of Polynesian and some kind of Asian. I'd only give it three stars because the room A/C was not working properly, but the pool is pleasantly unheated, which is unusual for a pool in an area like this, so 4 stars. The hotel staff was nice.

Yelp
Front desk was a terrible experience. Receptionist was rude, disrespectful, and didn't provide any information regarding the room, hotel, or our breakfast passes that I paid extra for. She insinuated it was my fault for not knowing parking costs $13/night because I booked on a 3rd party site that didn't include that information. Pet fee was $75+tax, which she tried charging for my service dog. Spoke later to a manager regarding this fee, which he waved. He also had to bring our breakfast passes to the room as the receptionist failed to provide those. There were spiders and spider webs literally everywhere. In the room, the atriums, the restaurant... take that as you will regarding cleanliness. The hotel is gorgeous. It could use some TLC, but otherwise the location itself is great and the hotel is such a cool experience... if you try your hardest to forget about the above commentary.

Yelp
We recently stayed here for 3 nights and were really disappointed with most of the experience. We mentioned the issues at check out and they gave us 2 nights of parking free ($13 night x 2 nights = $26 off), which we appreciated, but still did not feel that this was enough to make up for all of the issues we experienced. We had the following problems: Room: - The water pressure in the shower didn't work well at all. The faucet was leaking in the shower a lot and the knob to pull up to switch from shower to bath was really stiff. Altogether it clearly needed some maintenance. - There was a splatter mark of food on the wall next to the bed that spanned across the painting hung on the wall as well. Eww. - On the balcony there was a high table, but with only 1 chair. From the pool area we could see that everyone else had 2 chairs with their table. Facility: - There were a ton of broken light bulbs on the exterior of the elevators. It didn't hurt the functionality of them, but they look really sharp and not well maintained. - We used the hot tub for about an hour and several times about half of the jets stopped working. We tried restarting the timer, thinking that might be the issue, but they still shut off frequently. Service: - We called in and ordered room service one evening. We waited 1.5 hours and nothing came. They called us and said there was a mix up and they thought it was for pick up. The food had been sitting for a while. They said they would make it all again and deliver in 15 minutes, which they did. They also gave us a 50% discount, which was appreciated. - They didn't clean our room the whole day one of the days when we took the Do Not Disturb sign off around 8:50am. I wouldn't come back here and I wouldn't recommend others stay here. Even for a 3 star hotel, this was pretty bad. Clearly the hotel is in need of some serious maintenance and cleaning.

Yelp
I've stayed with the Crowne for extended periods of time(3 months each) while working in San Diego. The rooms are clean and comfortable. There are two very good restaurants on site. One is a buffet style breakfast and American restaurant that overlooks the pool, the other is an award winning sushi restaurant. The staff has always been very accommodating and knowledgeable. The salt water pool and large (16 person) hot tube are very relaxing. There are many different banquet rooms through out the sprawling hotel grounds along with a palm tree lined courtyard with a gazebo that is a popular place for weddings. My preferred rooms are on the back side of the hotel overlooking the golf course. The corner rooms seem bigger than the other rooms and feature L shaped balconies.

Yelp
Here for notary training which is usually in a crap hotel in Mission Valley & this is no exception. Went to use the restroom & it was a complete disaster. No paper towels, no toilet paper, trash all over the floor. To give them a little love someone was in there cleaning it but how did it get that bad? I have been into gas station restrooms in way better shape that this one. Went to go eat at restaurant in hotel & they were overwhelmed by this small little notary class in which they should of been prepared since they know they have classes going on.

Yelp
We went here for the Doctor who conference and found the hotel to be nice and accommodating. We were surprised to find that breakfast was not included in our stay. Which is fine but I'm used to breakfast being included maybe that's only at smaller hotels. That didn't affect my view of the hotel just something I wanted to note in my review. The rooms are nice and we enjoyed our balcony. The restaurant had delicious food and the room service was very good as well. I had the caesar salad one night with chicken and the burger another day. Both were delicious and I would get again. The only note I would make about the restaurant is the wait times were long at times. The ambience of the hotel screams "Hawaii". It was very nice and I enjoyed it. The staff were helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Sketchy internet, uncomfortable beds, unresponsive muddled desk staff, shabby and aging property. From Crowne Plaza and as a Spire elite (IHG top tier) I expected more. # ridiculous forced-paid daily parking # guard shack with doors closed, no greeting/welcoming, no smile. I'm just a credit card. :/ # "suite" with large living and dining area offers only a lumpy and springy Murphy bed. No thanks. # laundry pickup took 4 days and 7 phone calls. # no ownership of a guest request, it's always "you need to call..." # housekeeping ignores the DND card and knocks anyway at 9am!! # room service trays left all day and overnight in the walkways # requested a "golf" view (facing away from the highway) but for my 10-day stay was given a "side" room with a view at the neighbor hotel and of the highway. # repeated "maybe-you-could-check-back-tomorrow-to-see-if-we-have-one" no idea how a 24/7 hotel operation should work beyond their own shift. After 4 days I give up. # no hotel staff should ever offer to shake a guest's hand. What are we, in business together?! + fabulous 70's "tiki" vibe and brick buildings atop (cracking) concrete slabs. Embrace your inner Mr. and/or Mrs. Howell! + strong and cold room A/C + usual Crowne Plaza coffee and Templespa amenities + consistently plush towels and soft bed linens and pillows + plain, large and visible card for placing on the bed to request new sheets instead of the usual BS about how they're saving the environment # but lumpy and springy, aging mattresses even in standard room Breakfast buffet. * standard hotel buffet (and that's not a good thing) * eggs made to order instead of the dry and aging ones on the buffet sterno, but they're somehow swimming in grease. # dishes left unwashed for hours; it's why there's lipstick on coffee cups and food on utensils -- the dishwashing machines can't melt them off when they're left to harden!! Yuck!

Yelp
0 STARS!!! 00000000000000000000 Stars!! DO NOT STAY HERE! Trust me DO NOT STAT HERE. Requested a ADA room 10 months ago. And our room door won't lock. So we Got in at 9pm and the door was hard to open and close. But we just used arm power. But when we came back around 12am and the door would not close at all. My fiance called the front dest and there is no Manager. He was talking to the front desk and they was giving him the run around. So I walked over. NO MANAGER ON DUTY. And with that in the front desk there is a sign that says manager on duty Tom Van Winkle. But no manager. No maintenance to fix the door. Front desk was offering us 2 rooms but it was not ADA accessible. They told us they can keep the accessible room open for when we need to go bathroom. So check this: they want us to go to room 1117 everything we need to go bathroom. When we are staying in room 2126........ problem yes! Horrible horrible Horrible. Photos to be up loaded soon. Just want to warn everyone looking at this hotel to STOP AND THINK AGAIN. Edit review. We got there at 10pm. The problem started at 12pm when we came back from dinner. The 2 girls who worked in the front desk gave me the run around. And to find out... they could have helped me sooner. We got placed in another hotel room 10 mins away. Checked in at 508am. 5 hours! We waiting 5 hours! What a waste of day right!! But we gotten taken care of from the general manager Leo. Edit again. I must say Leo and George has taking good care of us. Leo assured me that the night girl Rachel was talked too. Sad that this had to happen. To have a girl that supposed to be In charged; but claimed not to be. And was more worried about the money of switching to a sister hotel then making sure we were okay and safe and satisfied. Thank you Leo and George for fixing the problem

Yelp
Came here this second time as it is the Tiki Oasis venue and I gotta say, i'm somewhat happy about the hotel. Overall the hotel is very accommodating to the theme, old school Tiki culture. With it's little fountains here and there, the old school look of the hotel, glass elevators, I am happy with it. Not blown away but it serves it's purpose. Every year Tiki Oasis is held here for about 4 days and in that time the hotel gets put through the wringer and comes out shining. The staff works very hard to keep the patrons happy and I appreciate that. These men and women are practically running here and there taking care of everything. This event is huge and sells out so you can imagine how much work there is to be done. Tiki O has been held here about 15 or 16 years. Here's what goes on - big party in the pool. Bands and D.J.s playing on a deck over looking the pool area. A Cabana Boy/(man) fashion show and a Miss Tiki Oasis parade around the pool, the conference rooms are used for numerous Symposiums and other vendor sales booths. You like Tiki mugs maybe? Well, here's your place to buy those limited works of art. You like vintage Hawaiian clothes and accessories, they got that. How about a car show? Yep. Maybe a giant tiki statue bar with smoke billowing out the lighted red eyes. Okay, how about a stage in the common grounds with a bunch of killer bands. Room parties, and on and on. I guess I am reviewing Tiki Oasis and Crown Plaza. I think it's okay to do that. It's held here exclusively and the hotel bends over backward to support it so I guess it's a fair review. I had a blast again this year and hope to make it next year as well.

Yelp
I just left this hotel and am writing this from the comfort of the Hampton Inn down the street. I decided it was better to leave and take it up with IHG and my credit card company than stay the night in this hotel. Except now my credit card is missing too. Still trying to wrap my head around what just happened. I usually like Crowne Plaza Hotels and walking into the nice lobby I was expecting the usual slightly upgraded Holiday Inn. Front desk staff were actually nice. It's not their fault this place is so awful. I do hope Angel actually does refund my credit card like he promised. Actually I really wish they had just given my credit card back to me. ‍ My teenage daughter and I were directed to the back of the hotel to find an elevator to take us to the 8th floor. Let's just say there were people who made me nervous hanging out in that parking lot smoking cigarettes. The "executive" room was disgusting. Filthy carpets, balcony facing a wall, noisy air condition and it smelled bad. I would hate to see what a standard room looks like. The filthy glass elevator stopped wherever it wanted to, just usually not on the correct floor. The girl delivering pizza said it's been like that a long time. I was told the other elevators were really service elevators and that's why they were so beat up. My elevator phobic kid was ready to climb 8 flights of stairs it was that bad. But the stairs were in the back where the smoking party was happening so I said no. Going back to the desk to ask for a more acceptable room I passed several other smokers, a girl so high she ran over me with her dog, and numerous other oddities. I was offered a better room, which still smelled but not as bad. But at that point both of us were done with the "night of the living dead" and the possessed elevator and wanted nothing more than to get out of there.

Yelp
My stay here was pleasant. The employees really want to make their guests happy and will make their stay more enjoyable as much as possible. The hotel itself is decent..the rooms are well furnished with towels, plenty of closet space, and all rooms have a balcony. There are small complaints I have about the place though. 1. The room was opposite the check in area so we had to drive all the way around the hotel to get to the room. That could suck depending where your room is. 2. Narrow parking spaces. So at night, it may be difficult to find a spot to park especially when one car takes up two spaces. 3. In the bathroom, I unfolded a towel and a hair fell out of it that wasn't mine. 4. The bed was not typical of what I'm used to while staying at a hotel b/c it wasn't too comfy. When I was at the front desk (both check in & check out) the employees were always warm and welcoming with a smile. They offer shuttles to the mall, Sea World, pretty much where ever you want with in a reasonable distance. Over all, I would stay here again while staying in San Diego.

Yelp
This property doesn't speak well for the Crowne Plaza brand. Won't stay here again. Stayed here for 3 nights on a recent business trip and was glad that I chose to change hotels for the other nights of my trip. The dated tiki decor that escaped from the 80s is actually kitsch and kinda cute - but everywhere the property is just kind of run down and need just basic updating and maintenance. Paint peeling, good scrubbing needed particularly around those baseboards and corners where you think people won't see a cut corner. But what really sent me over the edge was someone had unplugged the powerstrip for the tv/microwave/ refrigerator causing the fridge to defrost SOAKING the entire carpet. How do you not notice that? How to you service a room for a new guest and NOT notice that none of the electric amenities even work? Worse yet - the whole room was dank. I actually slept in workout wear that I'd brought because every night the sheets felt damp. Buffet breakfast was included in my room rate - but I wouldn't have paid the way overpriced $16 for it if it wasn't. Much better quality to be had in the complimentary breakfast provided at budget motels. The fresh cut fruit was the one shining bright spot. Hotel does provide shuttle service to 2 nearby trolley stops and the staff was friendly and helpful. But overall Crowne Plaza I just expect more from you.

Yelp
Tiki Oasis at Crown plaza. We had so much fun! The only thing I will remember for next year is to bring our own meals or go offsite. The food is sub standard because the are trying to feed the large crowds and trying to streamline. I will say the outside grill was good we had a carni Assad burrito and it was yummy. The staff did a great job keeping the grounds clean with this crazy crowd of people.

Yelp
I should've read the reviews before I booked this hotel. This was my fault. I usually do my research before hand but decided to let my wife book it. From the outside you wouldn't think that this hotel is bad at all. But in this case looks are deceiving. Upon entering our room I could immediately tell that our AC was not working properly. Keep in mind that it's mid July and San Diego was expecting a heat wave. I set the temp to 60 degrees upon first entering the hotel. I gave it a full day. We went to San Diego Zoo for the whole day. Keep in mind that it was a very long and hot day. When we came back to our room the AC was the same as when we first arrived!!! We called the front desk and they sent someone to look at it. The guy looked at it and "adjusted the temp" to 63 degrees and said he fixed it. He didn't . The temp got a little better after that but only by a few degrees. I immediately looked on yelp for reviews and found out that the AC problem is a common one at this hotel. Our hotel room floor was filthy! You can tell that it's full of dirt and needs to be replaced! Not cleaned but replaced! To give you an example. After showering and walking around the hotel room for about 10 minutes I go to the shower to clean my feet and there's nothing but brown water... Beds were horrible. Not soft at all and the linens were so hard. Almost towel like feel. Not soft at all. Not to mention the stains on the sheets!!! Bathroom smelt like very bad body odor and just seemed dirty. Walls were peeling and fixtures are very dated. If you do not choose to use the main elevator and use the ones meant for the "staff" you will get bad looks from the staff. Even though these elevators are closer to you they don't like you using them for some reason. Parking! What a pain! The stalls are so small you can expect your car to be dented at some point in time. Not to mention that absolutely no one knows how to park in their lines . Trash was left in our night stand like they didn't even check to clean it. Corners and sides of fixture were filthy! Full of misc dirt and tiny rubbish. Overall room just felt so disgusting to be in. Would I stay here again? Absolutely not. Not even if it was free.

TJ Y.

Yelp
For the price point this place was okay, but I can't say I'd stay again unless they renovate. The room had a strange smell, and the facilities are clearly deteriorated and didn't feel clean. Except for the bedding - that was clean and smelled fresh. They charge a parking fee per day in an uncovered lot. There's an attendant at the entrance most of the time, but you really just have to scan your room key which we never had any trouble with. The parking spaces are very small so many people park diagonally in two spaces at a time which meant we had to park farther from our entrance. Check in/out was smooth and the staff we encountered were friendly. The coffee in room was very decent, and we had a little fridge which was handy. I'd looked forward to relaxing on the balcony, but everything was old and rusty which heavily detracted from the ambiance.

Yelp
Right from the moment I arrived you could tell this was going to be a headache of a stay. When I arrived I gave them my information on an already registered and paid for room. As I am being helped the customer service rep says one moment please with a weird look on his face he picks up the phone and calls and he was calling the room that I was staying in and tells me there's somebody already in your room. I informed him yes my roommate most likely already checked in. They asked me for a credit card to pay for the rooms and he's like oh no I need to get an override. What was supposed to be a quick 5-minute checking ended up taking almost 60 minutes. Then in the room that I am in for the weekend the air conditioner does not work at all and they have an elevator that has a mind of its own and when you select to go to a certain floor it totally skips it and leaves you on a different floor then the one that was chosen. For the price that guests pay at this location there is no excuse for these problems. And to top it off parking ($12) lot has very small parking slots and you have to find one really fast away from your room just so your car doesn't get banged up by someone parking next to you. Those hotel is in a strong need of a remodel.

Yelp
This is a great property based on my observations/experience. This is a safe, clean, well-managed property close to everything. Great location and they strive to make you feel valued. The check in was fast and gracious. They are happy to answer questions and are truly helpful. They let me check in a bit early which was nice after driving from Thousand Oaks to San Diego on a busy Saturday. They have complimentary shuttles to take you to Old Town and some other locations. I lucked out and got Jeff as a driver. He gave me a lot of information about where to go and where to eat. Super helpful. The guest rooms are very clean, very nicely decorated with a fridge and microwave. Good selection of cable TV channels. High end linens, comfy beds. Good A/C. My room had a balcony and pool view. Super nice! The property is well cared for and every employee you walk by or encounter has a ready smile. Nice. There is a little store on site - I didn't use it. There is a restaurant and a bar. Both were good. Ample on-site parking. Complimentary breakfast has everything - cereal, fruit, muffins, yogurt, bacon, sausage, eggs and more - they bring you hot coffee and juice and offer "to go" cups if needed. The pool is large and clean with lots of fresh towels right there - you can order food and drinks at the pool also. Housekeeping staff was great. I highly recommend this hotel. They care and it shows.

Yelp
Disgusting and gross! We booked it for our family vacation and it completely spoiled the whole mood. The hotel is worn out and so old! Zero maintenance and extremely dirty. As soon as we checked in we found bugs inside the drawers so we never unpacked feeling so grossed out. Second thing in the room were dead spiders inside the bath tub, ONE soap and extremely thrifty with the lotions and soaps. The curtains in our room had holes in them and allowed sun light to get in the room early! The elevator was extremely dirty to a point it had mildew and mold! The buttons were broken that I couldn't even press it! The service in the breakfast buffet was ok, but we caught the food rotten and old. Overall don't go! And I am pretty sure if there were any good reviews (which originally enticed us to book there) they are old with a different management. This one was an absolute rip off!

Yelp
Absolute worst hotel I have ever stayed in!! Room smelled like an ashtray when I opened the door and basically reminded me of a motel 6 because it was so run down. Sheets were dirty and bugs in the bathroom. I requested another room because the smell was so bad and the second room was no different. All you hear is doors slamming throughout the day and ppl screaming at the pool so forget about getting a good nights rest while you're there. Housekeeping also skipped cleaning my room twice and they ended up having to clean it at 7pm after I spoke to the manager. The elevators are very unreliable and stop on random floors when no one is there or sometimes don't work at all. Do yourself a favor and just stay at a motel 6 and save $100 a might
