On the Grid : Crumbs of Portobello

"This unassuming food wagon is not to be missed. Christof and his team at Crumbs are a force to be reckoned with on the Porty promenade. A handmade crepe and a cup of their freshly-brewed coffee (in a compostable paper cup) is all you need for a stroll along the beachfront on just about any kind of day. Whether you are passing by on a bright morning walk, or need something to warm you as you explore the local surroundings on a dreich Scottish day, there will likely be a small queue for you to join. But I promise that queuing is definitely worth it. Four-legged friends are well-catered with Crumbs homemade liver cake for dogs. The recipe has been passed down through generations and proves to be a hit as it’s wolfed down each time." - Sarah Wardlaw

A bit disappointed with the service. We ordered 2 hot chocolates and a Nutella crepe. Both the hot chocolates were not hot at all, they were cold chocolates but the crepe was good. They offered to replace hot chocolates or give us refunds, and we happily accepted the refund. That was nice about them. They have a Nutella hot chocolate option which comes with whipped cream topped with Nutella and marshmallows. The whipped cream with Nutella was really really tasty, leading to a ‘cold chocolate’ inside, but that’s alright. Their prices are pretty reasonable. £3.5 for a large Hot Chocolate and £6 for a Nutella crepe. It’s by the Portobello beach, so the location is the best part about it. They have an open seating area right in front of it and also a closed cozy seating area right beside their van. The staff was pretty polite and kind.

Lovely spot for a lighter meal. The sandwich was amazing, as well as the view. HOWEVER, I did not appreciate the many birds flying around my neck, I felt like a snack. Otherwise good, would recommend!

Terrible service by the blond plus size person. We have been using Crumbs since the day it opened and it's the first time we were treated disrespectfully. The staff are usually super friendly and amazing. Sadly we won't be returning because of that one aggressive staff member.

Excellent beach front food outlet. Great wee place for excellent crepes. The biscoff and banana crepes is a delightful treat. The savory one is worth it as well. Big portions too. Very helpful and friendly staff. Coffee is a bit weak though. Overall great value for money and would highly recommend. #CrumbsofPortobello

Unbelievable. Here this tiny little beach restaurant prepared an amazing sandwich. Not just any sandwich. Chipotle chicken ciabatta. Made with chicken from a local butcher.crispy bacon, tomato, red onion, spinach, with chipotle mayo. The amazing chef makes it in front of you on portobello beach boardwalk. Sat at a table on the boardwalk looking at the North Sea.amazing bus #26 from old or new town to Portobello beach.

Great little place. Tried it for the first time today on a week day as was walking on the Portobello promenade with my baby. Had a coconut iced latte and a veggie gluten free roll and it was all really tasty. Love that they had gluten free rolls! Sat at one of their outdoor tables to soak in the sea view and air, it was really lovely. The staff was also really kind and friendly. Will definitely go back 👍

Crumbs is in our eyes the perfect place to sweeten up your trip to Porty beach. We love to come here for the incredible Crepes, that are really well filled, and cheaper than Crepes at the Christmas market for example. Their breakfast rolls smell amazing and have a decent selection of toppings but sell out rather quickly usually. There is some seating placed at the promenade and as the waiting times can be long, there is typically a table available at some stage during your wait. Everyone is really friendly. Do listen out for your order number, as the gulls can be somewhat loud. Food is picked up at the truck, however, if you are struggling to get your food (wheelchair, walking aids and such), we did see them bring food to people on occasion. During the week the wait is short at most times, however, weekend mornings and really sunny days can lead to very long waits - which are definitely worth it. Our personal recommendation is the Banana and Biscoff Crepe, although a classic Nutella crepe will certainly fill your Nutella needs here. If you plan a whole morning in Porty, but don’t feel like a proper breakfast restaurant, we recommend starting your day with breakfast at Crumbs, enjoying the promenade with a long walk and then heading to Civerinos for a lunch time pizza. If you have a dog with you, Crumbs sell a type of liver cake that our future dog will certainly get to indulge in. So far they always had crepe dough left when we came, no matter when we have visited. We’ll be back again! The only question remains: biscoff or Nutella crepe?

Americano was good, cappuccino a little weak. Fried egg and potato cake roll and a sausage and egg roll were both ruined due to no butter, dry as sticks. As we were leaving in the car we saw a man delivering, among other things, Lurpak to them!

Yelp
Lovely van serving good coffee, pastries, crepes, as well as a snack for your dog friends! It is important to support local, independent businesses like Crumbs of Portobello!

Yelp
My favourite spot to get hot chocolates and bacon rolls for my chilly adventures to Portobello beach! This is a cracking wee outdoor booth cafe at the end of Portobello's promenade. It's got seats right by the beach so you can enjoy your food and drinks with a great view and zero sand in your mouth. It's got a totally amazing selection of food and drinks available and it's not expensive for the quality you get which is always a bonus in my books! They sell everything from porridge and crepes to filled rolls and various delicious baked goods, all of which are made daily and busting with flavour. I think the most expensive thing on the menu costs £4 so you can order all the things and not feel bad about it! The staff here are crazy friendly, they play great music (Smashing Pumpkins are a great to listen to by the ocean!). There's pretty much no complaints to have with a place like this!
