One of the most well curated museum I’ve visited. Interactive, informative with a well-mapped visitor journey. Definitely a must a visit in Belfast. Do expect to spend 2-3 hours here as it has a lot of information and videos.

It would have been five stars if the cafe had been open! We spent about 4 hours at the Gaol and had lunch at the distillery next door. The Gaol is definitely worth a visit, to learn about the Victorian view of appropriate penal conditions for men women and children, as well as about the imprisonment of people during the Troubles. The exhibits are well laid out but the individual stories, set in different cells by video, tended to overlap with those in adjacent cells. The video would benefit enormously from subtitles. Nevertheless the overall impression was vivid and authentic.

The Gaol was easy to navigate, friendly staff and plenty to see and hear. There is both a mix of indoor and outdoor to explore and there are some really informative push button videos to explain more history on the Gaol and prisoner's. My only criticism is that some of the TV screens and push buttons weren't working which meant there were certain topics that couldn't be explored. Worth a visit.

Brilliant day out , great value for money. The customer service was top notch and it was really interactive. One of the best places I've visited. The facilities were good and clean. The Cuff bar and grill is worth a visit.

I absolutely loved this tour and would recommend it to anyone ... a very informative experience with plenty of video guides reliving genuine experiences of what it was like to be a resident at her majesties pleasure... The prison itself is great, and it's hard to imagine 500+ inmates being held here... So do yourself a favour and pay this place a visit (£14.50 per adult)..well worth it

An amazingly well presented unaccompanied tour of this famous old gaol with lifesized video guides throughout telling the stories of the lives of historical and more recent prisoners and the officers who locked them up. The artefacts and cell content is authentic and as an interactive experience well worth investing a few hours to enjoy. Two souvenir stores, a cafe and surprisingly well presented restaurant are available .

A very unique experience & worth the visit. Self-tour was the only option when we got there Sunday afternoon, but informative & plenty regardless. It wasn’t very crowded, but just enough people to feel a bit rushed to allow others to step into small areas & read/look. “Troubles” animated video was great, simple info for those that needed a quick understanding. Appreciated the child, male, female perspective on being imprisoned. My main concern on this tour was I was a bit distracted by the amount of trash littered in some exhibits& sprinkled here & there on the tour.

Visited the old Crumlin Jail. Very interesting learning the history of the jail and locals that it housed. Very dark & sinister. Must have a cold place, and obviously in the old days, no electricity. The padded cell was scary to think of that people that have lived in there. Then there was the execution room and burial sites of prisoners in the wall. Was very interesting to see the old vehicles from in the troubles. The way Belfast used to be, I can remember seeing these armoured vehicles on the news, photos or in movies. Great day out and full of history. Would recommend.
