Yelp
We had a great stay at Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel (Sun 12/13/15-Thurs 12/17/15). After doing a lot of research both on Yelp and Trip Advisor, it seemed to be the best option for my friend and I for a number of reasons: location, price and service. I'm happy to say that it delivered on all of these and more.
Location: the hotel is walking distance from the ferry (yes even with luggage). Not only that but every day we walked to the taxis which are parked outside of the ferry and went off to a new destination. Super convenient. Taxi rides ranged from $5-7 pp to get to the major beaches. The downtown area is also great to walk to dinner/shopping. Because this is where all of the action is. No need to rent a vehicle if you stay here (or if you want to there are rentals on each side of the hotel).
Price: There are in season and off season prices which for STJ seemed to be very reasonable compared to other resorts of a similar grade level.
Service: Truly outstanding and often the thing that most influences your enjoyment of a vacation. Victoria greeted us and was often at the front desk during our stay. She was enthusiastic about the island and provided outstanding recommendations all of which contributed to our wonderful stay. I saw that she was mentioned in other reviews which makes me happy because she was so sweet and helpful. One day she made us reservation to Extra Virgin Bistro (see that 5 star review) and left a nice handwritten note in my room with all of the details. There are people who go to work and do their jobs and others who go above and beyond. THANK YOU VICTORIA! We also had the pleasure of meeting David the owner and his mom Kathy - both wonderful and welcoming too. On our last day, we left early for a morning swim. When we got back, Kathy had left breakfast/coffee out late for us just in case we wanted something. She was so lovely and sweet.
Other details that might be helpful:
-The rooms are clean and modestly appointed. I found that I had everything I needed/wanted. The decor is simple and modern. Bed was comfortable. There is an A/C unit and TV in the room. Shower head is nice, shower itself is small (which was fine). There is a mini frig that they stock with bottled water (thank you!). There are beach towels in your room and you're given soap along with a small shampoo and conditioner (no tissues, so you may want to bring your own). There is a supply of sunscreen and bug spray for all guests to use located in a common area ( you may want to buy your own of both so that you're covered while at the beach). Breakfast includes some fresh fruit (apples, bananas), oatmeal, coffee cakes, yogurt, coffee/tea.
-WIFI is free
The rooms are small and ideal for one person (unless you're coming as a couple) as there's one double bed. I don't recall if two single beds is an option, you'd have to check their website. There is a penthouse option which holds more people. It was nice because my friend and I got our own rooms. There is a rack to hang clothes as well as a small dresser.
-Hotel is located on second floor so you will bring your suitcases up (and they will help you with that too).
My recommendation is don't bring too much as you don't need much.
If there's something you have forgotten, there is a little mini mart store a short walk up the street.
Finally another thing I loved about staying here was the story of the owners who married on the island and bought the hotel. I enjoyed supporting a resident rather than a big chain.
Long story short, I'm glad we stayed here and appreciate the warm hospitality. STJ is truly a special place with special people.
