"Commissioned as a public artwork for the Memorial Park Cemetery, Crystal Shine Grotto is the largest—and perhaps only—man-made quartz cavern in the country. In 1938, Mexican artist Dionicio Rodriguez had a 60-foot-deep cave dug into the hillside in the middle of the cemetery, then set to work creating a magical attraction out of sculpted cement and almost five tons of colorful quartz crystals. He even carved niches in the walls, which were later filled with biblical statues to complete an unusual but heartfelt religious shrine that now draws thousands of visitors each year. Accompanied by a loop of harp music, the Grotto can be a peaceful place to pray, though it’s also eminently Instagrammable and has become a favorite posing spot for special-occasion photos."

Went here based on word of mouth from a friend of my mom. Located within a local cemetery, this place is a hidden attraction of Memphis. The beautiful hand-made crystal walls and holy land dioramas are a sight to behold!

This is a free activity to pause and admire the peaceful and splendid scenery. Before entering, we read a story that profoundly impacted our perception of what we saw. The area could use some cleaning up, but it's still beautiful. It very well could be since it's winter. Stop in, read about it, and enjoy.

Quirky roadside attraction worth the quick stop if passing by. Longtime spot for locals to take pictures.

A little difficult to find but well worth the trip. So peaceful and beauty beyond compare from the outside to the interior. If you are a rock hound this is a must see to experience. One man’s show of love to the love of his life.

It's very pretty for sure. It's very neat to see. It's filled with a bunch of Christian mythology and fables, but if that's your thing, you'll definitely enjoy it. It's got a little donation shrine and a sign in book to leave your name and a little message.

Beautiful place of reflection. It is very Christian, but as a non-Christian I still found this grotto and shrine to be comforting and beautiful. My only feedback is that the Bradford pear should be removed from the grounds. Although it’s a beautiful tree, it is invasive.

This is a pretty interesting place, albeit in the middle of a cemetery. You may need to use GPS to find the structure as there did not seem to be any signs indicating the location. The small pond was quite green as there is little water movement and it did or seem to be cleaned for quite sometime. Interestingly, I did spot a few large koi. The small cave is lined with different scenes from the Bible, mainly from the life of Jesus. I was personally more interested in the crystal structures build, each different for each scene. The cavern ceiling is pretty low at some points so taller people may have to bend. Overall this is a pretty beautiful place worth checking out if you are not off put by its location.
