Review of Crystalbrook Riley, Cairns I recently had the pleasure of staying at Crystalbrook Riley, and overall, it was a delightful experience. The hotel is perfectly situated right on the water, providing stunning views from our room that added a special touch to our stay. Waking up to the beautiful water view was truly refreshing! We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel, which was a fantastic way to start our days. The food was delicious and made for a pleasant dining experience. The pool area was another highlight; it was well-maintained and had a great atmosphere. We appreciated the poolside drink and food service available through QR codes before 5 PM, making it convenient to order refreshments while relaxing by the water. However, I did have a negative experience with a staff member at the pool bar one afternoon.Young male, blonde and approx early 20s was very uninterested in serving us and walked away without saying anything once I ordered. Another couple had the same experience and commented on his service. One other mention is the room and hallway entrance have a strong musty smell, not horrible but notable. Overall, I would recommend Crystalbrook Riley for its prime location, beautiful views, and excellent amenities, but I hope they address the service quality to match the standard of their facilities.

The room is spacious, and quiet. We are just around the corner from the elevator, and would not know it. Unfortunately, the Air Conditioner in the bedroom pumps out humid air, that stinks up the place. There are two vents in the bedroom, and one had some sort of fabric stuffed in it, so we don’t use it. The AC in the main room with the couch etc works fine, and is barely adequate for cooling the two rooms combined. The middle glass pane for the bathroom door is missing. Kind of awkward! The staff are courteous and professional. The pools here are very clean, and well kept. Room service is a little awkward. For example, I wanted to order coffee to the room at 8:00 in the morning, and their online ordering system wouldn’t allow me to order coffee before 11:00. In the end, we reserved this hotel 8-10 months ago, and there is simply zero reason to expect a room in such a poor state of disrepair. We paid for five stars, but did not receive it.

We stayed at the Riley for a family holiday. We booked two rooms. The Rooms were large, well appointed, spotlessly clean with crisp linen and soft beds. There are a fair amount of complementary items in the room including a nespresso maker with four pods, renewed daily. The mini fridge also contains two refillable water bottles, a nice touch in the tropics. The mini bar prices are the same as those at the various hotel bars. The main appeal of the Riley are it's massive swimming pools, with the main pool being approximately 25m long and 1.2m deep. Ideal for laps, assuming it's not crowded with other guests. Cairns is subject to a lot of showers during the day which by no means discourages swimming, however there are no undercover areas near the pools to put towels and clothing. Quite a few times I returned to my deck chair to find a wet towel and t-shirt, despite the beach umbrella. The restaurants are good offering a variety of options for reasonable prices (for a five star hotel). Service is excellent. All wait and bar staff were very professional and courteous. The hotel is immediate across from the Cairns Esplanade boardwalk and a lazy walk to the wharf - the gateway to the Barrier Reef. The boardwalk is a fantastic feature of the Cairns experience and it's proximity to the Riley is a huge feature for the hotel. I intend to stay at the Crystalbrook Riley on my next trip to Cairns. Highly recommended

Such a lovely place to stay. Beautiful, clean and environmentally responsible. All the staff are friendly and hard working - thanks roomies. If you want to see hospitality at its best then this is the place to stay. Clearly great recruiting and training. Special thanks to the chef and kitchen at The Papercrane restaurant - world class cuisine. The delicious food is served by knowledgeable, efficient helpful serving staff. We have just stayed 4 nights at Crystalbrook Riley. Reception staff are nice but they leave you alone mostly. You have to approach them. We wheeled our own bags to room. Room was nice with a balcony and a court yard. Clean and simple as I like it. Booked pool view, which was obscured but you could see the ocean as well and there was a courtyard which we didn't expect. We were on level 1. I liked this. The air conditioning was lovely but I found the panel a little hard to adjust. I got it in the end. House keeping give the place a tidy each day but dont fully reset the room as I would expect. I wasn't too bothered by it as fresh towels were left and are needed in Cairns as nothing dries. The food was a lovely and reasonably priced, similar any other in the area. Drinks were very expensive so I limited those. I did like the pool side service, I signed up to become a member to receive 10% off everything but this would not work when ordering from your deck chairs. Either walk to Paper Crane or pay full price. I walked mostly. Food and drinks came quickly and were enjoyable. The pools were excellent, we had a wonderful time basically hanging there for 4 days. Relaxing. The location is great. You can get goodies from a small supermarket, restaurants, fast food, drinks, pharmacy within walking distance and a short Uber ride brings you to a shopping centre with cinema and everything you could need. You could walk but not us in 90% humidity + wet season heat. The resort staff were all very nice, polite, happy to help and I could not fault them. We had a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying a girls getaway. I would stay at Crystalbrook Riley again. Wonderful experience.

We were very disappointed with our stay, especially given the hotel’s strong reputation and positive reviews. Upon arrival, the room carpet was visibly stained, and one of the beds had dirty sheets. When I called the front desk, I was told that because it was our first night, housekeeping would not come, but that clean sheets could be sent instead. After waiting over 30 minutes, the front desk called back to confirm the request and questioned why we needed the sheets — specifically asking whether it was for a rollaway bed due to an extra person in the room. This felt uncomfortable, as if they were trying to determine whether additional charges could apply. Once I clarified that the request was due to dirty sheets, they apologized and said housekeeping would come up. We then waited another 30+ minutes. The mildew smell in the room was extremely strong and overwhelming. It was so bad that our eyes were burning, and we ultimately had to leave the hotel to purchase a room freshener plug-in just to tolerate being in the room. After experiencing this, we looked more closely at reviews and found that other guests have reported similar mildew or musty odor issues, which made this even more disappointing. We chose this hotel based on its excellent reviews, but the cleanliness, air quality, and delayed service response did not meet expectations for a hotel at this level. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect the quality we were expecting.

Excellent full service hotel. The room was contemporary with interesting modern lighting and amenities. Lots of space. USB ports on both sides of the bed and the desk. Nespresso coffee machine. The lighting had various options and was all interconnected through control panels. It appears that the room turns on the lights automatically when you tap in after being away for awhile which is a fun feature. The available breakfast buffet at the paper craine restaurant was outstanding - see my restaurant review for details. We had an urban view family suite which was really just two connected rooms. It is an excellent option for a family since you end up with two bathrooms. Lovely view from the veranda.

After booking for our 20th anniversary not only did the garage we paid for flood causing us to check our car as after we received the message 10 mins later was sand bagged with no way to get out .y husbands leather boots soaking the elevators stopped working the bed separated meaning sleep was almost non existent to only be offered the 20 dollars back from.parking and 15 mins left of breakfast... The price of $319.00 was not worth it and im devastated that a special anniversary turned out this way. Not impressed at all!

Other hotels in Cairns can be run down but the Crystalbrook Riley is cool and glistening. Location is central but not honky tonk and restaurant is cool. But best trait is the staff-- helped set up trips, dinners and more. . . AND refused to accept tips. A gem with a great staff.

Absolutely adore this hotel! Rooms are roomy and bright. Bathroom however is pretty dim. There is no magnifying mirror. Staff is very friendly and has great recommendations for food and adventures.
