It's so nice to find a Korean restaurant that specializes in traditional Korean street food. Finding a restaurant that makes tteokbokki (떡볶이), deep fried kim-mari (김말이튀김), and tteokgochi (떡꼬치) is basically impossible, so I was really excited to try this place.
The restaurant is small, but the dining space was clean and comfortable. There was only one person working the kitchen and also taking the order, but he was very pleasant and also very quick; I ordered three separate dishes, but everything was ready in less than ten minutes. In spite of that, all the food tasted freshly prepared, especially the deep fried kim-mari and the tteokgochi. Deep fried kim-mari is basically glass noodles wrapped in nori that's been covered in batter and deep fried. It goes REALLY well with tteokbokki, which is the spicy savory rice cake dish often served with thin slices of fish cake. Tteokgochi is deep fried rice cake, covered in sweet and spicy sauce.
The batter used for kim-mari was really crispy and light, it reminded me a lot of the beer batter that is sometimes used to make fish and chips. Kim-mari itself was really well prepared, and so were other two dishes. The tteokgochi had the right balance of sweetness, spiciness and umami from the spicy red sauce. Tteokbokki was perfectly cooked; the rice cake itself had the right texture and the sauce itself was delicious and at just the right level of spiciness. All the flavours brought back childhood memories of enjoying street food in South Korea; it's all very authentic, so if you are craving true Korean food, this place will serve you well.
Similar to street food in South Korea, I also found the price to be very reasonable. I left the restaurant as a very satisfied customer, and I will definitely be going back if I ever get a craving for Korean street food again. I'd highly recommend giving this place a try for an authentic Korean dining experience!
