Been going here for years. Love their gear, the artwork, and the store. Please make more Oakland/ Las Vegas Athletics gear. Picked up 4 of these Warriors shirts! Chee!

Google
They clothing designs here are second to none created by local artists. They also host galleries of local artists every month as well. It's a good play to shop and get some culture while you're in Japantown.

Andrew Macias

Google
Support your local artists and business at this one of a kind store. It's constantly changing the art on the walls to get people's names out there and the styles are something you can't find anywhere else

Love Cukui! Their quality of clothing is great and I love the customer service; they are great!

One of the best retail stores and clothing lines out of San Jose. Been a fan for 8+ years, highly recommend.

Cukui is a kickass local streetware shop with a nice selection of Tee's, Tanks, Caps and Hoddies + the staff are amazing!

Yelp
Overall a 4, but I am rounding down to a 3.5 because their sizes are definitely lacking in Men's clothing. I went 1 size up for my clothes because I go for function not fashion, mainly. With that said I had a chance to go by Cu Clo Art and the customer service was pretty good, I mean I can't complain I was the only one in the store. I have heard about this shop in the rotation of post modern art in the Bay Area for a bit. As far as my opinion is concerned their output is definitely genuine, local related and just laid back. Hawaiian, Mexican American, symbols, type fonts and patterns Design is, graphic ranging from name sake and abbreviations, to tributes to San Jose Sharks, and nods to the recent death of MF DOOM, underground eccentric and so on. Overall this is definitely a niche that San Jose is proud of and I want to see them up close and personal once the covid is officially over. Enso forever. +- 2 d name sake stickers w various colors. Nice mens clothing, but some out of stock. Discount clothing for men, women and kids right hand side by the cash register. _"First, have a definite, clear practical ideal; a goal, an objective. Second, have the necessary means to achieve your ends; wisdom, money, materials, and methods. Third, adjust all your means to that end." -Aristotle

Yelp
I am getting the same experience like other reviewers - they do not respond to any emails and took over 10 days to ship a shirt. The size is smaller than expected and I requested a return. There is a lack of communication and customer service so be prepared for that. This is the last time I order from Cukui.

Yelp
I hate to do this but my experience with this location has got to be the worse experience ever. I mean don't get me wrong Cukui apparel and designs are always amazing and definitely will continue to support. My experience was based on the employee that was working the day of Saturday, Feb 29,2020 at 3:30 PM. Me and my sister were in the area so we decided to stop by . As we walk in the sales associate did not greet or even acknowledge us in any way and gives a dirty look. I don't know what the protocol is as far as your hiring process goes but I really think that this needs to be looked into. Hire people that actually love to be there and love what they do not someone that just comes in just for the money. People that employ for the money only and don't use great customer service will definitely ruin a business reputation!! I will never come back to this location unless it's my last resort !!!

Yelp
The 2 stars is for the online experience the past few times I have made purchases. As much as i prefer to online shop, the experience at this shop iis mostly a miss. Most of my online purchases are only partially filled. The latest were 6 items purchases online for Christmas gifts and only 1 item was received. Worst yet is that it takes about 2 wks to receive any word to let you know that fact. While I do like this shop's vibe and art, unless you are willing to go in person and physically purchase the items, you run a small chance your orders will be fully fulfilled and that sh*t sucks.

Yelp
I'd like to preface by saying that this review is solely a rating of my experience at the shop. Like everyone has said, the designs and apparel line is amazing and awesome. However, regardless of how amazing all of that is, the one thing that resonated with me during my last visit at the store was the rude and inattentive worker that my wife and I encountered. Mind you, it was only the two of us at the store. Without getting into details, the rudeness and dismissive attitude the worker had was infuriating. I work in an industry that relies heavily on customer service and making the experience stand out for patrons. I wasn't even involved in the situation, but as an outsider looking in and bystander, the whole interaction with my wife and attendant made me feel so uncomfortable. In short, if your employees don't want to help customers or don't feel it's their job to be somewhat GENUINELY apologetic for someone driving all the way down to the store to find out that the item they purchased online was miraculously unavailable within 15-mins of the online transaction, I feel your hiring standards need to be re-evaluated or major retraining of customer service expectations/practices need to be revisited. Knowing what it's like in the service industry, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say that the gentleman described isn't a true representation of your brand and company. However, I will end by saying, every one of your employees is a representation of your brand and culture, so perhaps it's time to weed out a few.

Angel Z.

Yelp
Why do you have an online store if you're NOT going to properly fulfill the orders placed?? Even worse, you DON'T/WON'T respond to emails at your orders@cukui.com address!! Worst customer service I've experienced ever, SMDH.

Yelp
After writing my review from 2019, Jason had sent me a message on yelp and told me to give him a call. I responded on yelp and text message and he appeared to be very apologetic about our negative experience in the shop. He had even responded to my review in the same tone and also mentioned that he will be handling the situation and be letting a few people go. In addition, Jason asked for my address and said he would be sending a little care package as a good gesture. However, weeks had passed and no package. Initially, I thought wow that was a very thoughtful gesture because I honestly wasn't even expecting a response more or less a package. I thought he was very professional in the way he handled the situation as well. But of course I was wrong. I was intending on letting the whole thing go because I understand running a small business isn't easy. Nevertheless, when I came back to my review I noticed Jason completely removed and replaced his response with a very generic comment. Furthermore, reading through newer comments for example Len from SF, I can see that more than 5 months later, that nothing was resolved Some advice for the future, you should not tell people one thing and then do another.

Yelp
Service (4/5): The gentleman who helped us wasn't the most enthusiastic person. He just had a chill vibe to him. Very knowledgeable about the items they have. Clothing (4/5): There's not much variety and their never make the same shirt twice. Once they're sold out they're sold out. Ambiance (5/5): The aesthetic inside the store stays true to it's brand and style. Price (4/5): IMO, it's on the higher side (~$35 a shirt). Their Black Friday sale was pretty good though!

Yelp
I have really enjoyed their Bay inspired clothing for years with a aloha feel ! Be patient currently with their online ordering you will get your gear and be very happy or just take time out to visit the shop. Also men and women buy one size larger that way it will last through the washer through the years and keep its length from when you originally bought it, trust me I'm a San Ho local.

Yelp
I stopped by last weekend when I was in town. I really like the layout of this shop because I always look at Cukuis website, and when you're inside, everything is physically organized the same. I bought the Golden State Natives hoody which is officially my new favorite hoody. The clothing lines design work here is impressive. Oh, and the pokemon artwork on the wall is pretty dope! QUICK TIP: The clothing here runs a little big, (I'm a M who should we S in cukui stuff) so if you're physically in the shop, you should try it on first.

Yelp
This a super fain locally owned urban fashion shop. It's located right on the main drag of japantown, and while the parking is street only, there is usually a spot close by. In case of emergency, there's a city owned surface lot not quite a block away. The store is on the smaller side, but manages to feel cozy rather then claustrophobic. The focus is on hawaiian/latino fusion fashion, and well, it rocks. There is a selection of both mens and womens stuff. This is an urban fashion shop so the focus is on hoodies, ballcaps, t shirts and suchlike, but the unique artistry of these items is outstanding. The staff I've interacted with are calm, and professional. They speak quietly but know everything there is to know about the product. Pricing seems to start at about 40 dollars for anything and goes up from there. Hoodies, shirts etc start at about 70. This may seem high, but this are one of a kind, unique fashion and art clothing. I'm not saying all my stuff come from here, but I do have a small, growing collection for when I need to be sharp. They also do special events/art shows every now and then. That makes for a perfect excuse to go check stuff out, socialize, and just in general embrace the awesomeness that is japan town.

Yelp
Located in Japantown, Cukui sells amazing apparel with a Hawaiian/Polynesian flare. Their designs are amazing and they're always creating new ones, so you have to keep stopping by to see what they've got. I like that they represent the Bay Area's sports teams. Way to represent!! My faves are their designs of The Dubs, Sharks and A's. Very creative designs that look awesome. Staff are always friendly and helpful too. If you have some time while you're in Japantown, stop-in and check them out.

Yelp
Clothing and designs are always fantastic and very creative. A SJ based small business I will continue to support till I die. Staff are very friendly and helpful as well.

Yelp
Great staff and wonderful artistic pieces hanging on wall. Different artwork displayed every time i visit. Picked up a few shirts and poly masks today and will definitely continue supporting Orly and his ohana

Yelp
Nice spot good looking spot. Not too into their clothing, because it just isn't my style... but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the artwork. My boyfriend is digging it though. Love the aesthetics of the store... Very simple and organic... Boulder jutting out of the wood desk. Water fall streaming behind the cashier made of what looks like a scrap slab of mesh metal. And the raw wood bench and grass in the middle of the store. Very nice. Came for the grand opening, super exciting stuff for Japantown. I love the buzz of the upcoming stores in this neighborhood-makes me want to live here even more. Treatbot was here to add more noise along with Adoboman? serving up adobo sliders. Price point is reasonable, and designs are pretty nice. Saw some Clout hats. I believe Orly owns this shop.
google avatar

Yelp
Great shirts! Always wanting to support the local businesses and Cukui puts out quality shirts! I also like how some of the stuff is limited so if you really want it, you better get it when it drops! Sales are great too... sometimes you can find some deals! And Staff is always friendly!

Yelp
LOVED the art work in this shop! As the Bf shopped I looked at the gallery on the wall and the painted bottles... The gal in here today was super friendly! The BF was cold so he ended up getting a beanie. Shop local!

Yelp
Cukui was one of the first boutiques that I stepped into since moving to San Jose and just mindlessly walking around Japantown. I think the idea that picking a brand that nobody's really heard of much at the time to me was exciting. Plus, we should always be giving back to our local communities by support local brands and shops. I stop by maybe twice a year and usually pick up a freshly designed tshirt or some accessories. The shop is small amongst the many boutiques that's opened up on this strip but still my favorite. It's not fancy decorated with bright lights and obnoxious art. But rather, subtly art and a clean selection to choose from. I appreciate the simplicity yet the art behind their gear. The stayrooted plate frame is legit and one of my favorite purchases. With Colin Kap being so popularly associated with the cukui and 49ers, they have a lot more niners design. I came in looking for a gift the other day and they didn't have quite what I was looking for and I needed a small size. Just my luck, the employee (I wish I caught his name) told me to wait a second, and he came back with the perfect tee! It was part of their LA showcase, only 1 of 10 of this cukui design made and in the correct size. He sold it to me there on the spot, I didn't even think about it twice. It was like one of those I'm so rich or so in love, a la carte no prices needed splurge of the moment, TAKE ALL MY MONEY feelings. It was truly one of a kind and a definite gem here in SJ Japantown if you're looking to dress to impress or support your local business. Plus the artwork inside is a plus!

Yelp
I have seen evidence of Cukui out and about all over the place. They also have a pretty awesome website that they have been hocking their merchandise from. From what I can see these guys are a collaborative of urban artists that are bringing their stuff to the discerning consumer via clothing. The items I have seen are provocative and bold, which is pretty impressive in the emerging urban art genre. You can see their history on their website and take a look at the online shop. I'm so excited that they have a brick and mortar store here in San Jose. I think these guys have worked hard enough and have earned that right. There is a list of vendors that sell their clothing on the website as well: from LA, to the Bay Area, Japan, and the UK. They have a grand opening of their flagship store on Friday the 13th of August, 2010 at 1900 hrs.

Yelp
I love coming to Cukui. It's got a very welcoming feeling to break bread with the workers, folks shopping in the store and old friends I haven't seen in years. Everyones interests are spoken out in the open and you get this great feeling of not being forced to buy anything. I hate going to stores where folks try to kick knowledge on why their gear is the best and why u should buy it. The apparel at Cukui speaks for itself. It's dope stuff thats a brand of their own. Friendly staff, quality product and a great location... consider me a regular.
google avatar

Ryan J.

Yelp
This place is definitely one of my favorite spots to visit whenever I am in Japantown! They always come out with super sick designs especially when it comes to making clothes based off of local teams. Go Dubs! I almost always buy a tank whenever I visit this location assuming they have my size. Some of the designs are limited in quantity so get them while you can because they run out quick due to super high demand. Also the people who work here are very friendly and super helpful. They don't rush you and they're really chill. Ask them for anything and they're happy to help. If you're not trying to buy anything, it's always nice to just browse at the artwork because it's really one of a kind. If you want something unique, this place definitely has it! I'll for sure be visiting again in the near future!

Yelp
Story: I remember when they came out with their design on the San Jose Sharks and it was just a work of beauty. After that, you would think they would be a one hit wonder, but no; innovation just kept on coming. Ambiance: * Parking | Generally street parking is available. Japantown is fairly small thus there is limited parking. I would recommend to visit during non-busy times (weekends/lunch/dinner) * Feels | A very calm environment and friendly workers. It must be the pretty cool water fall they have their or the simple display of art and fashion. A simple boutique with it's unique feel. Products: Their style is one of a kind. Topped with the local sports mix, it is simply beautiful. A Hawaiian tribal-esque feel connected with the Bay Area feel makes the art that even closer. Customer Service: Simply friendly, nothing spectacular just the simple basics of respectful customer service Overall: 5 Stars | Their designs make me feel proud why I am part of the Bay Area. Kudos to Cukui. Stay humble! Advice: * Sometimes I get disappointed when I visit because they quickly sell out of the apparels I am looking for. Subscribe to see their latest gear!

Yelp
Being one of my favorite brands, Cukui is located in the Japantown of San Jose. Their style and store is simple and beautiful. Parking isn't too bad since street parking is usually available. The workers were nice and always available to assist us as we shopped. Their products have a unique Hawaiian tribal design and feel that appeals to me. The only thing you gotta watch out for are their new designs and deals since they run out pretty fast. Subscribe to them so you can get their latest deals. Can't wait to see what they have in store for next time!
google avatar

Renee R.

Yelp
Dopeness. You gotta go here. It's all about the experience. What this place represents and how they're moving towards that. It's like a museum with a tour guide. The manager, RJ, is super friendly and has lots of stories to tell... Especially about the ambiance and the phsyical space. I got the last "The Natives" girl shirt and I love it. I've gotten a million compliments from bay folks about the cuteness of it. Unique shirts with the loveliness of local and intentional art. Duh, this place is it. I love how my shirt is not going to be reprinted, so it makes the shirt so worth it. I don't normally buy t-shirts for $35, but I did with this one and I'm getting a lot of swag points for it. So worth coming here. Even to just see their amazing counter made of a real rock that took several strong Samoan men to move it in. It's kinna beautiful. Oh, there's also like a waterfall in the back of the cashier area. Hella cuties. Local clothing line with a cultural twist to bring you closer to home. Local gal with a local heart, Renee from the Bay

Yelp
Review #500! Love this brand and what they stand for. Their designs are awesome and have a really wide range of designs and styles to fit your preferences. It's great to see a brand that's so in touch with the community and even does collabs with other companies. It's great to see that their really devoted to the Brazilian jiu jitsu community as well cranking out gi's and rash guards. Really hope to see more of this in the future! The people behind the store are great guys too, really helpful and are really caring for their customers. Keep up the great work!
google avatar

Jaime G.

Yelp
I love coming into this store! Every time I come in here there is something that catches my eye; whether it is a cool shirt or the art pieces they have hung up on their wall. The customer service is great, and they do hound you in trying to make a sale. Their apparel sells itself. They also have art shows! I just went in this past week and it was great. They had free food and drinks. I also took my younger cousins making it a great event for the family.
google avatar

Cat V.

Yelp
How do I only have a Quick Tip and not a review up for Cukui? Blasphemy! Let's just say that most of my family wears Cukui...including my really close friends - both the females and males. They are usually donned in their gear as they accommodate just about anybody and everybody. They have a bunch of products all creatively crafted and tastefully thought out. The artwork is not your ordinary either. It's accompanied by that old-school world flava that you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. The shop is located in Japantown and isn't hard to find at all...parking may be a little sparse but there is a lot adjacent to the building. Make it a point to stop in here when you're in the area. Bookmark it. You'll thank yourself you did.

Yelp
As I walked through the door of this boutique (small but warm), I was greeted was a friendly hello. This is their flagship store and all t-shirt designs ($28 each) are original. Their designs revolves around the east meets west theme. It is very indicative of San Jose (Vietnamese, Mexican, Japanese, Pacific Island, Northern California culture.) The store design is simple and elegant, nevertheless retaining a nature element to its environment. Simple isn't that simple as a designer would put it. Beware: J-town San Jose is sleepy and parking is ample but make sure to coin the meter. The regulators are relentless and will not hesitate in issuing a citation.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
Cool local spot. The gear is well crafted and uniquely designed. It is a small shop but they have a nice selection of art, accessories, and apparel, I plan on stopping by again soon.
google avatar

Noel A.

Yelp
Went to the store for the first time and i was quite impressed. Although the shop may be small, most of the clothing designs are clean. Layout of the store is simple yet appealing. Once you pass by the windows, you would immediately walk in to see what they have inside. Prices for the clothing line is reasonable. I really hope to see the new and up coming designs in the near future, I will definately come back to the store soon.
google avatar

Roger L.

Yelp
Owned and run by true artists. In fact the shop itself is a work of art. Shirt designs are simple yet intricate. Opened just a month or so ago, so their line will be expanding. Right in the heart of Japantown, it is in a prime, hip location and often DJ when there are street festivals. Highly recommend that people at least stop by and just enjoy the ambience of the shop. Staff is very laid back and friendly.
google avatar

Richard G.

Yelp
Cukui is legit! They have some serious talent making their shirts and I am a fan. The designs are so unique and different who wouldn't wanna a shirt from them? One plus in my book is that they have kids shirts. My son is laced with Cukui shirts and he loves the designs! I plan on coming back and supporting this local company for the people. Don't sleep San Jo!
google avatar

Michio F.

Yelp
Not much more needs to be said than "this place is legit". ....but if you insist, this spot rocks a clean minimalist layout with ever-changing artwork. Always good people, chill hip-hop, and fresh gear. It takes heart to do what these folks are up to. And they do it damn well.
google avatar

Aya T.

Yelp
There isn't a reason I can think of to dock any stars from this place. Of course, I could be extremely biased because some friends of mine work here and it's strongly affiliated with a tattoo shop I used to frequent. lol But really. If you're in the San Jose Japantown area, give this place a visit. They carry tshirts, hoodies, hats, beanies, bracelets, and a lot of great great artwork-- it's a small shop, but it holds a lot of local pride. Not to mention a ton of island love, too!
google avatar

Duane G.

Yelp
I have purchased about five shirts from Cukui Clothing Company. They are located in Japantown in San Jose, and definitely add a positive vibe for the area. I had tattoo work by Orly which is incredible, and I believe that he is behind the artwork on the clothing they sell. If you want some cool original artwork but not permanent on your skin, I would definitely check this place out. The ambience is relaxing, the products are good quality, and the artwork is great. Definately go check this place out! By the way, If you are on Facebook, request them to be a friend to be kept up on their art events!!
google avatar

Neil B.

Yelp
'Love this spot! Orly and the gang are a talented bunch; you can really see it in their designs. I copped me a few shirts while I was there... The store has a very welcoming vibe to it. I just wish they're closer to the Peninsula; it's a trek every time I try to get to the store.

Yelp
I haven't given a review in awhile. But, felt it was important to give these guys a shout out!! From customer service to quality of products. I really don't shop many other places when I'm looking for that one of a kind custom look and feel. I have been a customer for several years, and always look forward to what they are coming out with next:) The only negative is that when something runs out in your size, it's no longer available. Custom pieces!! Stop by a take a look. They will take great care of you.
google avatar

Joe N.

Yelp
Cukui is not just a clothing company, but more of a cultural movement. Orly, his team, and their collabs have been killing it since they've opened their doors in SJ Japantown in 2010. Orly has been my tattoo artist for almost 15 years! When HBTat2 was originally on Santa Clara St., my boy Robin and I would kick it at the shop. One day, Robin came up on a very limited HBTat2 poly designed T-shirt by Orly. Obviously, I missed out and was very jealous! Robin would wear it around me all the time to piss me off! I would bug Orly all the time to make more . . . Fast forward 10 years later and he's making shirts for everybody to enjoy! From art shows to block parties, his union of art and streetwear have made an impact! Who can forget Kaepernick's "Against All Odds" release after the QB put on a show against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game? Remember the Warriors Playoff run? We Believe and so did Cukui when they released the "Golden State Natives" tees and tanks! Besides clothes, I've bought earrings for the wife, cell-phone cases and a wallet. Their designs are original, urban, and fresh to death! Cukui Mayne!!!
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
A beautiful place to shop and appreciate art! They have unique designs and a friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Irene Z.

Yelp
Great little store in Japantown. Really hip and unique designed apparel. Purchased a t-shirt for my son here and all of his friends were sooooo jealous. They also gave my son some free stickers that were very cool.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Keep it local! Keep it original, keep it fresh. That's the theme of all the great Japan town shops so I'll start all the reviews the same. So this is probably my favorite shop. Mainly because I dig all of their creations. I may not wear them all, but I like that their styles are diverse enough to remain interesting and relevant. Diverse selection in style, products, and even materials on products (some interesting hats). Real fresh stuff, I'm not an Islander but if I was I think I'd own their whole collection. Must stop in.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
I love this shop! I only get to come in once every few months, but when I do, they always have new designs for shirts and sweaters in stock. The shop is also an art gallery so even if you aren't shopping, it's nice to check out what they have on the walls. The staff is super friendly and nice. Cukui Mayne!
google avatar

Roberto M.

Yelp
I've been shopping at Cukui for a while now and the clothing never disappoints great quality and great original designs. Love how the combine cultures to make great designs. The art on the wall is from local artist. The store is well set up always clean. The owner is a super cool dude. Stay Rooted
google avatar

Langiie D.

Yelp
Great vibe walking in with a welcoming greet. I try to always stop by because it's my bf favorite spot to get original designs. And I always try to find something for myself. Women's selects are limited but all the little items that are on the rack for women I want!! It's nice they have a selection for men women and kids. Misc items like hats, beanies, phone cases, key chains. All these cool things. I would definitely recommend cukui for original Bay Area cultural items.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
I have been buying Cukui gear for the past four years. Great designs, the quality is very good, and to be able to rock sick tees priceless. keep up the great work
google avatar

Paul V.

Yelp
Support locals. Original and solid designs. Nice variety of colors used in their designs whether you're looking for something simple or unique. Shirts are made with good material printed with quality screen printing. Good location with plenty of parking in SJ Japantown. Plenty of meter parking so don't forget to bring quarters. Very friendly and helpful staff. They always treated me very good. I am a big fan and supporter of this brand since 2011. Cukui has great sales on various occasions. Cukui does solid collaborations with other local bands. Also, Cukui will host art shows and have evening events. As an added bonus you never know who may drop by such as athletes or artist like BJ Penn of J Boog.
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
Nice place! First time at Orly's store. Been to his tattoo shop many times though. But came to check out the art show today. It was great! Also loved the complimentary made to order sushi bar just for the event! Love the area it's in.... Japantown. Also, saw a few pieces of clothing my hubby and I liked as well. Items are pricey but quality of the material seems good. I posted my favorite pieces of artwork.
