Oh, I love the Culloden. Over the last few years I have been to black tie dinners, a wedding reception and have stayed at the hotel several times and have loved every moment.
The interior of the hotel is all about opulence - huge heavy drapes, ornate furniture and giant lamps. There is an air of subdued elegance but you can still really let your hair down or take your children with you. If you're staying at the hotel you'll have the use of the Elysium health spa which is beautiful - a pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna and really luxe changing room.
The rooms in the hotel are top notch - well this is a 5 star joint. Mind you, I do have a story to report about the standard of the rooms. The last time we took the children to stay for the weekend at the Culloden, we were given a room which was just plain disappointing. Nothing major, but in a 5 star hotel with 5 star prices, stained carpets, ripped bed covers and a broken phone just doesn't cut it. The husband cringed while I got straight on the one working phone to reception and made my feelings clear. The result? 5 minutes later the manager escorted us to the biggest suite in the hotel, apologising profusely. The suite was palatial and we had to wait until the staff had left the room to scream in delight and jump on the massive bed. Then the children told us to calm down. Seriously though, a bad start was quickly rectified and we went on to have a fab weekend.
Dinner in the restaurant is always a treat, a is breakfast the next morning when the staff go out of their way to make sure the children have something they like.
The Culloden is everything you expect from a 5 star and a little bit more.
