"After the U.A.E. gained independence from the U.K. in 1971, its then-ruler, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, ordered that an entire block of the middle of the federal capital, Abu Dhabi, be spared skyscrapers and instead be made into a park and cultural center. The building, completed in 1981, is a work of art in itself, with Brutalist concrete columns offset with geometric tiles in a mid-century palette of mustard and cerulean blue. The Bauhaus-meets–Middle East style is the result of a global competition held to choose a lead architect. The winner was the Architects Collaborative, one of whose cofounders was the influential Modernist Walter Gropius." - John Arlidge

The Cultural Foundation is a beautiful space in the heart of Abu Dhabi, offering exhibitions, workshops, and family-friendly activities. I visited during a Malaysian art show and was impressed by both the quality of the work and how open and peaceful the space felt. It’s great for kids, with a dedicated Children’s Art Centre, and you can also join art workshops with professional artists for around 100 AED. Some exhibitions and workshops are free to drop into, so it’s worth checking their app for what’s on. A perfect spot for a creative afternoon, whether solo or with family.

An amazing place with so much happening all the time. There's a Malaysia art exhibit ongoing now and they are about to start the Jazz Month can't wait Even the building and it's ambiance both are amazing, the architects have incorporated local elements, wall panels, skylights and more ro create a venue befitting the cultural foundation

The place is exquisite and aesthetic. It’s free to enter unless some event is going on. The fountain area and the courtyard are huge and suitable for performances. (Experienced to attend Abudhabi Young Orchestra performance) There is huge gallery which host a lot of art exhibitions. The auditorium is also very well organized with good acoustics. The children library and art department is there. There are a couple of water and chips vending machines. The cafeteria outside is nice but with limited food options.

Went to check the art galleries and to discover this cultural gem. The access is easy with plenty of parking spaces in an underground parking. So enriching with exhibits of different artists. There is kids play area very nice from the outside but didn’t enter since I didn’t have this age group with me. Highly recommend it if you are into art and culture

Qasr Al Hosn & Cultural Foundation: A Journey Through Time and Creativity ✨ Qasr Al Hosn is one of Abu Dhabi’s most iconic cultural landmarks, standing as a testament to the emirate’s rich history. Originally built as a watchtower in the 18th century, it later evolved into a fortress and the residence of the ruling Al Nahyan family. Today, it is a beautifully restored museum that narrates Abu Dhabi’s transformation from a small fishing village to a global metropolis.👍 ⭐️Adjacent to Qasr Al Hosn is the Cultural Foundation, a hub for artistic expression and learning. The foundation offers a variety of workshops and exhibitions that celebrate art in its many forms. Visitors can participate in oil painting, acrylic and watercolor classes, painting on silk, sculpture, ceramics, photography, jewelry-making, sewing, and Arabic calligraphy. These workshops cater to both beginners and seasoned artists, making it a perfect place for anyone looking to explore their creativity. 📚The Study Lounge provides a peaceful environment for reading, research, and self-improvement, while the Theatre and Music programs bring performances that range from traditional Arabic shows to contemporary international productions. The venue itself is a masterpiece of modern architecture blended with Emirati heritage, offering an inspiring setting for learning and cultural appreciation. Convenient parking ensures an easy visit for all guests. Another Cultural Gem: House of Artisans 🎨 For those interested in exploring the traditional crafts of the UAE, the House of Artisans is a must-visit destination. Located near Qasr Al Hosn, this cultural center is dedicated to preserving and promoting Emirati craftsmanship. The House of Artisans is not just a place to observe but also to engage with skilled artisans who keep these traditions alive. The experience offers a deeper appreciation of the UAE’s cultural heritage while providing an opportunity to create unique handmade souvenirs. With its interactive experiences and rich storytelling, the House of Artisans is an excellent complement to a visit to Qasr Al Hosn, making for a well-rounded cultural journey through Abu Dhabi’s past and present.
