Cumberland Lorne Resort

Lorne Cumberland continues to be, without question, the absolute best place to stay. Even 35 years on, it still offers not only the best rooms, facilities, and views, but service that truly matches — and exceeds — the quality of the accommodation. Every single time we visit, the staff go above and beyond. I’ve already written two previous reviews praising the wonderful service, and yet somehow they continue to outdo themselves. Nothing is ever too much trouble. The team consistently looks for ways to make our stay exceptional, not just comfortable. Small but meaningful touches make all the difference — like allocating a room with a view whenever possible, even when booked into a garden room. It’s clear they are constantly thinking about how to enhance your experience, not because they have to, but because they genuinely care. This is exactly why I refuse to stay anywhere else. The level of service simply does not compare. We always look forward to dining here as well — it’s all part of the experience. We’ve already booked again for Easter because this is truly the place to be. Lorne Cumberland never disappoints, and we can’t wait to return once again.

I had a wonderful stay at this accommodation. The place was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making it easy to relax and feel at home. The staff were absolutely amazing—friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect throughout the stay. Absolutely loved our apartment in this hotel. We didn't use any of the facilities so can't comment on those, but the sea front apartment was fabulous. So much space and a beautiful view. I sat out on the balcony with a glass of wine and watched the sun go down. Bliss! Check in/out was seamless, parking inspections easy to follow and the location to the shops etc was perfect.

We absolutely loved our stay at Cumberland Resort! The ocean view from our apartment was stunning and made our mornings so relaxing. The swimming pool was clean, warm, and perfect for both adults and kids. Customer service was great friendly, helpful, and always available when we needed something. We also ordered food from The Salty Dog Lorne during our stay, and it was a total hit! Delicious, fresh, and packed with flavour highly recommend pairing your stay with a meal from there. Overall, a wonderful experience. We’ll definitely be back.

We had a nice stay over Melbourne Cup weekend. Great location. Amenities are older but refurbished in good condition. Enjoyed the indoor pool. Reception was helpful with queries. Can't fault it!

The resort itself is beautifully maintained, perfectly located, and offers a peaceful yet luxurious escape surrounded by stunning natural scenery. What truly elevated our experience, however, was the outstanding service we received from Archie and Heath. From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to make us feel genuinely welcome. Their professionalism, friendliness, and attention to detail were second to none, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. It’s rare to encounter staff who are not only incredibly capable but also sincerely care about creating a memorable stay—and Archie and Heath did exactly that. Thanks to them, our time at Cumberland Resort felt effortless, relaxed, and truly special. We wouldn’t hesitate to return and highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Lorne. Great location, rooms were nice and clean very enjoyable stay. Check in was easy as well. Rooms had everything including 2 spa baths, kitchen was fully equipped, very happy family. Thankyou cumberland resort.

We absolutely love staying at Cumberland Resort! We stayed 5 years ago after our Covid wedding and were so well looked after. We decided to return for our 5 year anniversary and loved every minute of it. The staff are so attentive and personalized in their dealings with us. Heath in particular is a rockstar and made us feel so welcome. The rooms are great, the ocean view is fantastic! Couldn’t have asked for a better weekend and we will most certainly be back.

Love to come back. So beautiful because ? It's ski season and it's quiet. We had Lorne to ourselves and half a dozen of tourists. Nice drive, safe drive because the "Great Ocean Roads have had a few upgrades " Friendly Asian staff who was so welcoming on Thursday night when we checked in around 5.30pm. 7.5 out of 10.

The Cumberland is excellently located with friendly staff, great views and nicely maintained grounds. We stayed in an ocean view room which was well kept however probably 20 years old so a slight refurbishment is due. The balcony balustrades are made from brick with a metal railing on top which blocks the view when you sit down. Other nearby, more modern accommodation uses glass balustrades. The kids enjoyed the indoor heated pool instead of the beach on cool weather days. Don't forget to pack your iPod dock (rooms facilities include a CD player).
