We chose to do the San Luca sky experience which you purchase a ticket for before entering the church. It's a €5 each to climb the 108 stairs to the top of dome. The view from there is breathtaking and there were only 3 other people up there with us. Stay ad long as you like and take some pictures and then enjoy the church after your climb down. The church is free to enter and quite ornate. Definitely worth the visit to the area. We would recommend walking down through the 666 archways. A great experience.

We walked along the 666 arches of the Portico di San Luca starting from Porta Saragozza. It took a while as we kept pausing to admire the stunning scenery (while catching our breath!). Beautiful views of Bologna and well worth the visit. Recommend bringing water with you, especially if it is a hot day. There is a water fountain at the Dome of San Luca for topping up too.

My biggest tip is to take a taxi up to Sant Luca then walk down through 666 medieval porticoes back down into the city. The chuch is beautiful. We did not pay to go into the crypt for even better views as it was foggy & they were about to close for lunch (at 13.30.) Each porticoe is numbered and there are little shrines along the walk. When we visited parts of the porticoes were being repaired so you had to walk on temporary platforms (these can only take a few people walking on them at any one time. These were also quite slippery when wet so exercise caution. The views are breathtaking, even on a misty day. I believe that on Sundays, pop up cafes serve lasagne but on other days please ensure that you take some water with you, especially if it's hot.

I read some reviews beforehand so my expectation of the 180 degree view was managed, but I didn’t expect to be charged TWICE on my card since the staff didn’t confirm the first payment actually went through and asked me to pay again. I only find out after I left the sanctuary that I paid twice. The mistake is likely just bad luck and the money is for charity. Still, can’t help but feeling a little bit bummed.

Beautiful Dome view at Santuario Madonna di San Luca. The dome access closes at 1800 so make sure you get there in time.

Incredible church in an amazing city. We went to confession there and it was an incredibly grace filled and holy experience that I will never forget. Thank you Lord for giving us this beautiful church!

It is always amazing to know about different religions and their system of thoughts. in the end, it helps you see people as humans they are. This a beautiful place on top of the hill and you can have a great sight of the city. The structure itself is beautiful, and the stairways that you take to reach there is also magnificent.
