Another stop on my #StationaryStoreDay Crawl. What a gift shop! This place has everything! I love the array of jewelry here... I always say if you are traveling and need a perfect souvenir that says out of town without it being cheesy (and that no one will use) jewelry always is a safe bet. Plenty of sassy and feisty gift items as well but just know that you'll find a children's section, unique culinary items and the service is impeccable! I will say the one consistent thing I realize on my crawl this weekend was that most of these shops offered personal gift wrapping... I am so glad that stores are doing it again. Respectfully Reviewed.

Curious is such a fun and creative place! Their selection of goods is amazing—I especially love their selection of snacks and LGBTQ tea towels -- so fun! The attention to detail in everything they do really stands out. As a vendor, I’ve had an awesome experience working with their team—they’re so friendly and easy to collaborate with. If you’re looking for something unique and personal, this is definitely the shop to check out!

Cute little classic shop on Pier Ave! Fun little trinkets and beach stuff to buy, plus a cool 40+ year old Photo Booth that still works! It uses credit cards and is slow, but it’s fun to get dated photo booth photos for a trip.

Very interesting shop. Great selection of original gifts and the best birthday cards you’ve ever seen. And very friendly staff too

We love this local small business! The owners are kind, affirming, funny, and feel like friends. Their store is at the top of our recommendations list to any neighbors or those visiting the area as a must visit.

Yelp
I stumbled upon curious when I was in the Hermosa Beach area and starting a new pen pal hobby about 2 months ago! I was looking for a fun stationary shop and found this lovely gem! I had a lovely chat the first time with Andrew, one of the owners. (Saw them again this time around, and they remembered me, so talk about customer service!) I learned that most of their items are curated and locally made! You can see the passion for all things stationary and all things fun, quirky, and queer (hello!!! Sign me up for everything!) I just had to come back and get more! If you're to just window shop, you'll also have a lovely time talking with them and may just be tempted to buy at least one thing!!! I mean, how can you not!?! I got a cute "evil plots" memo pad, some fun stickers, and some beautiful cedar wood penicls! Things are a little pricey, but your shopping small, which is, at the end of the day, worth the price, in my opinion! So stop by, have a chat, buy something funky, or just admire the funness!

Yelp
When visiting in Hermosa Beach, we went into this awesome little store on Pier Ave! Took photos in their old-school photo booth with our grandkids! And shopped around looking at their very well stocked shop! Bought a darling little soapstone dotted heart for my stone heart collection. Lots of kids gifts, gifts for mom, gifts for dad, housewarming or host gifts too, and a beautiful candle collection including my favorite brand Voluspa. Oh and fun kitchen accessories. When you make it in, take your time browsing as they have something for everyone! And what I appreciated was something for every budget. Friendly shop owner too!

Yelp
What a curious and crazy collection of unique gift items. Whether you need just the right funny birthday card (raunchy or sweet), silly present, guy stuff (cocktail smoker?), cookbooks, goofy socks, special toy-- whatever, they have it. Reminds me of Spencer's back in the day. I miss the former bookstore, but this is a fun place to shop.

Yelp
Curation is spot on & we found the most perfectly unique hostess gift that nailed the assignment (campy Frankenstein puzzle), plus a free gift wrap with super cute handmade tag. Not to mention a pickle sucker for bestie's obscure love of pickles. Love our local shops!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great place if you're looking for a gift. They have a variety of items from jewelry, interesting books, fun socks, crystals, fun hand towels and oven mitts, candles, local Hermosa Beach gifts and an assortment of fun cool cards and an array of other nice gifts. The people who work there are super nice and helpful. I met one of the owners, I think his name is Andrew. Super cool and nice. They provided gift wrapping for only $1! I found the perfect birthday gift and the funniest birthday card for a dear friend. Curious is located where long time locals would recall Either Or Bookstore used to be. Metered street parking is available in front of the store. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
I love this store, and others like it (there's a similar shop in Washington D.C. - not affiliated.) What? A store with high-quality cards, interesting doo-dads, fun odds-n-ends, funny socks and stuff that says "F*ck" etc. You know, the kind of shop you visit every few months and drop ~$30 or so on things you can't live without! Yesterday, it was greeting cards. The visit before it was socks. Next time it will be the Otto Octopus ceramic tray. As far as I can tell, the only thing missing is a bar. Lol... Love CURIOUS! 5 stars!

Yelp
Such a cute little store with some unique items owned by the nicest people! Would go back to get books and other items.

Yelp
The best gift shop in South Bay, I love this place. Staff is friendly and there are so many cool things to look at. I've bought several unique pieces to decorate my apartment. I could easily spend an hour in there perusing around.

Yelp
I was doing some last minute Christmas shopping and strolled by this awesome store . What a great experience in this cute little shop. The perfect store to grab a last minute gift for anyone ! I will Definitely a customer for life! Bryce was friendly and so was his staff. Love this store you are perfect !

Yelp
I absolutely love curious. Every time I visit Hermosa Beach I stop in there and always find something I love

Yelp
Stopped by the shop for the first time yesterday and it certainly won't be my last visit. They had such a great selection of high quality unique items. I had such a fun time browsing around the shop and loving the quirky items they had for sale. The prices were reasonable too. If anyone is shopping for a gift for me they would definitely find something I would love at this shop. I live in Orange County, but look forward to coming back when I can.

Caitlin G.

Yelp
A shop full of the most unique, funny and curated items you could imagine. Perfect place for gifts, or a gift to yourself. Was in yesterday and the owner brought out wine for all the shoppers, creating an instant joyful little moment for all of us who were there. Framed family photos and thoughtful displays of the store's collections make it feel so personalized and authentically thoughtful. Absolutely love this store!

Yelp
Curious is my go to spot for gift shopping. If you take pride in the gifts you give and haven't been to curious, what are you doing with your life? Curious is a gay owned quirky lil gift shop. Doesn't matter what the occasion is, Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, you name it - curious has you covered. They sell everything from jewelry to puzzles to cookbooks, wind chimes, socks, coffee table books, gag gifts, kids stuff, cards, they have literally everything!! You really can't miss with Curious. They offer to wrap your gifts too so if you're a last minute gift shopper and in a real time crunch this is your spot.

Yelp
If you are looking for a unique gift idea, this is the place to shop. Even if you are not, this is a great store to pop your head into when in the area and look at all the great home decor, books, jewelry, etc the store has to offer. Even the layout of the store is inviting. There are steps that separate the store into multiple areas to slowly browse and appreciate the way the merchandise is artfully displayed. It makes the shopping experience enjoyable. I observed the same in the expressions of the other shoppers in the store. I did not purchase anything on this visit. I will have to remember to come here the next time I am looking for that unique, eclectic gift for a friend. I liked the different Buddhas they had displayed throughout the store.

Yelp
Curious is a novelty shop that offers unique and often times spiritually influenced items that are truly interesting. The shop is located right in the heart of downtown Hermosa Beach on Pier Avenue. So, it is easy to get to and parking is abundant via metered street parking and in the nearby lot. Curious it's a spacious shop that is made up of separate rooms. Each room is fully stocked with an eclectic blend of items. What this shop is great for is finding that unique gift item or purchasing that curiosity piece that you never knew that you needed. Curious is a fun place to shop!

Yelp
I one-of-a-kind!! This place is amazing and the ownership has done an amazing job. The products available are updated fairly regularly to adapt to each season or time of year. This is a great spot for finding obscure, unique, personal gifts!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this shop so much. I loved the way it is decorated and all the products they sell. They have a wide variety of products. These products are either cute, fun, cool, or entertaining. I went the day before mother's day and they offered gift wrapping. They started a stamp card that offers 20% off once you fill it up.
google avatar

Selene P.

Yelp
Extremely unique and charming gift shop with great customer service and a wide range of products, from useful everyday items to gag gifts. I always have to stop by at least every month or so!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this store. I found some unique jewelry. This is not a store who highlights cards from papyrus. Don't get me wrong they are nice cards. But they are going more for support of the community. I noticed some things for the hard to buy. I came back twice in the same day and noticed things I hadn't noticed earlier. Andrew was very informative about the jewelry designers and this is not an over priced shop at all. Just an all around great place to shop and a great experience in this store.
google avatar

Marissa B.

Yelp
Ended up giving the belated bday cards to my co-workers but decided NOT to give them each a mystery balloon just because I am not close to them and don't want to make them feel awkward so I ended up returning them for store credit. I ended up enjoying what I bought for me which was some kick ass pencils with motivational messages for when I write and also some very cool postcards to send to my favorite people. I LOVE coming here to shop for gifts or just for myself and making me happy when I can't seem to make other people happy.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great! I love how easy it is to find unique gifts here. The political humor items are so funny, the jewelry is adorable and lots of novel/unique decor. I never leave this store empty handed, love it!

Yelp
Loved this place, the quirky cards, gifts, and jewelry till the girl at the register made a dumb Asian joke. I can take jokes but c'mon. Perhaps be aware of the shit you say? Bye. Thank god Lundeen's in Culver City is on my way home from work.

Yelp
I was curious.......so I stopped in this shop last night. http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/jvC0zNFo3c6_20YDUiicOg/l As it turns out, I am the 4th reviewer to award five stars. They've been open about 8 months, I was told, and the proprietor was on site to give me the guided tour of their vintage glassware selections. There are two blenko glass vessels, huge ones, that knocked my socks off. The prices knocked my socks off, too.....haha......but extreme coolness does not come cheap. I was also enamored with a vintage footstool in perfect condition. The $95 price tag on that seemed fair. Lori did a great job describing the rest of the shop's inventory, so I won't repeat it. Suffice to say this shop is a fabulous spot to find a gift......for yourself as well as anyone else. curious?

Yelp
This is my new favorite shop in Hermosa Beach. They sell custom made tables and bookshelves that have a clean retro look and feel to them. I covet them every time I'm in there. They're always painted in the crispest colors. I think if Aiden from Sex and The City had been from Silverlake he would have been making furniture that looked like these pieces. This store also carries entertaining books, off beat greeting cards, random housewares, gifts and jewelery. I recently purchased a great pair of earrings here, which reminds me I need to dash over to see if they have something similar in silver!

Yelp
It turns out, I AM curious...... because I love this store! After a yummy lunch at New Orleans Cajun & Creole Cuisine a few doors up the hill, we walked into this store to browse. The adorable painted wood, pillow-lined dog beds outside made me want to get a doggie, the buddha heads Zenned me all out, the racy Christmas cards made me laugh, and I could NOT leave without taking home a multiple outlet plug that looked like a man for $23.50 (arms and legs are plug extensions!). The friendly guy there even told us the story of Oscar, the wee birdie who was named so before they found out HE was a SHE : ). Apparently, she flew right onto the shoulder of the store's owner when he was standing outside someplace. Sounds like it was meant to be! I love that this is a local small business, and that they have so many fun things to look at. I could get lots of people crossed off my Christmas list by coming back to this store, so I think I'll be shopping here again soon!

Had exactly what I wanted.... Finger puppets! Thanks!!!

Yelp
Such a cute little store with tons of gifts to get for yourself or for friends! Kind of pricey, but so many cute thangs. Went inside to get some birthday gifts for friends, and found really cute jewelry for them. The owner? I assume was very nice during checkout, and she even wrapped the gifts individually for me! The bags were made out of newspaper (but so cute), and stamped it with the letters of their names. Love the little details!!

Yelp
South Bay born and raised. We make a trip home every Thanksgiving to do some shopping. We park at the parking garage and walk the Pier then up Pier Ave hitting all the shops. Ive purchased from this store the last 3 years. Never again will I step foot in this place. They have books with titles like "Trump is a Jackass" and a shirt with "Sorry about our President" in multiple languages. Really bad taste, unless your shop happens to be in Russia, Venezuela or Iran, but in America? It's the nationwide left wing temper tantrum for the past 3 years that's going to get you 4 more years of him. Now that's something I can raise a toast to and give your shop a wink when I walk by next year. ;)
google avatar

Liz And Ryan H.

Yelp
We often find ourselves in the South Bay, and Curious is amongst our must-visit locations when we are there. Bryce and his crew are truly the friendliest and funniest folks you could possibly meet. I love that he has a knack for the off-beat, inappropriate and hilarious. You will find something for everyone there - whether it is appropriate or not, that's up to you. Moreover, Bryce is a wonderful craftsman. He custom made a mirror for our home and did a lovely job. I have since contacted him about doing some work for a job I was working on and he was honest about what he could and couldn't do. I will continue to keep him in mind for design jobs that I come across and of course, for projects within our own home. Curious is a gem in Hermosa!

Yelp
This place is awesome. I came in one day with some family and decided to come back because there was so much to look at. When I came back in the next day I had a nice chat with the staff and found a birthday gift for my mom. They wrapped it beautifully. It was awesome to see a shop with such a wide range of items. They had some really nice stationary and cards, and awesome jewelry section, and some gag gifts and little trinkets. I know every time I come to Hermosa Beach I will be coming here. I can't wait to see what they have next time I'm there!
google avatar

Natalye R.

Yelp
Let me begin with this: I WANT TO BUY EVERYTHING IN THIS STORE! I was walking down to the Strand, exploring the area while I was in town this past weekend, when I happened upon this cute little boutique-ish looking store. Upon entering, I fell in love with pretty much every single item inside, from the furniture to the books and down to accessories and jewelry. Everything is interesting and unique and super vintage with a modern edge, but not in the overdone kitschy kind of way that you can find anywhere. The store owner is also a friendly and personable guy, and his employee working made great and genuine conversation. I would be hard-pressed not to support a place like this, and I hope it does well!
google avatar

Colleen V.

Yelp
If curiosity killed the cat, I may as well drop dead because I love this store and can never stop [window] shopping here. The perfect place to find a unique gift for a birthday, christmas, or maybe even for yourself but it's can definitely be hit or miss (with a majority of hits). I love browsing through the tight spaces filled with the owner Bryce's handcrafted and refurbished furniture: everything from coffee tables, bookshelves, nightstands, mirrors, and he also customizes names & words/phrases into nautical wood carvings. Bryce also makes store brand soaps, lotions, and shampoo which all smell fantastic! I especially love the coconut and vanilla scents. A bar of soap is about $4, so a bit pricey but it is handmade.. Other random assortment of trinkets you can find at Curious are: eclectic jewelry (there's always a sale rack!), coffee table books and greeting cards (most of which are hilarious), and a ton of other trinkets you'll just have to go and see for yourself!

Yelp
I visited Curious late last week with my husband and mom in tow. While I didn't purchase anything, I easily could splurge at least once a month on jewelry, cards, and home decor for myself and as gifts for other people here. Too bad I don't live in Hermosa Beach! The prices are... meh, I thought reasonable for most things and a little high for others. But it's a locally owned store, I believe, and I'm a fan of those types of places. The staff is exceptionally nice. Can we say unique gift items? There is nothing more disappointing than going to a "ma & pop" shop and finding items that were in a different shop just up the street. This isn't the case for "Curious"--at least not that I'm aware of. And there are items every single place you turn. I had to go through the store numerous times and don't think I saw everything still. It's not a real "touristy" store, in my opinion. My mom, who is from Texas, wanted a few "souvenirs," but I knew this before taking her in here. She didn't find the typical boring "I love Cali" stuff, but cuter stuff instead! There were some pretty hilarious children's books in the back. I regret not picking at least one of them up. Oh, how I will visit this shop every time I'm anywhere near HB... Review #161

Yelp
Amazing little shop! Weirdest knick knacks and cool games. The cards had me and my guy laughing our butts off. And the staff were super friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Love, love, LOVE this shop! My go-to for any gifts, or decorating needs, or retail therapy, or if I just need a laugh (a lot of their items are really hysterical). Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and their gift-wrapping is complimentary and always really beautifully done. I cannot walk down Pier Ave without stopping in "just to look" . . .
google avatar

Jon E.

Yelp
Very interesting place. Lots of items here you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. I came here for something pretty standard: a wedding card. I was in the area and couldn't find another stationary store. Curious did not disappoint! Although if you don't have a targeted search, you can get lost here -- there is so much going on. Reminds me of a quirkier Kitson. Things here are priced at a premium too. Some of my favorites here are the bar soaps that are labeled. I also like the "grow a pair" in a jar. If you check out this place, check out the cashier...you'll know what I'm talking about.

Yelp
On a weekend road trip my friend stopped her as it is her favorite shop. I really enjoyed it. They have a variety of cute gift items. Something for everyone. I took lots of pictures and my friend bought a bracelet as a birthday gift for another friend.

Yelp
I have ordered a few times from Curious since March. They have absolutely the best customer service in all of the Southbay. They also have the most unique and fun things in their store - from adults to kids. First time I ordered during lockdown, the shop was closed but they were doing store shopping via Instagram and I selected a few items and picked it up curbside. One of the items I got was some blocks for my two year old and let me tell you those have saved us! We have built so many castles and towers. Another time was the other night - I needed to get a couple things for stocking stuffers (and a puzzle for myself). I ordered online but was going to pick up curbside because we're in El Segundo and I felt bad asking them to deliver that far. Andrew text me a little while later saying he was going to be in the area and it would be no problem to delivery. The kindest, most thoughtful gesture. I'm 8 mo pregnant and reducing my contact is a high priority, Andrew knew none of this and still reached out to offer to drop it off at my door. The items were so thoughtfully packaged, with a sweet note and a few fun surprises! It's these small acts that make a difference. I try to shop there as much as possible, especially for my daughter because they have hands down the best kids selection! But everything they have is so wonderful and unique. Thank you Curious for being so amazing during these crazy times - and thank you Andrew for your thoughtfulness!

Phil M.

Yelp
This place is such a nice breath of fresh air in Hermosa. The people there are always friendly and there are always lots of unique gifts you can find for family and friends. I am especially fond of their card section which always gets a good laugh from anyone I've given a card to. Oh and if you order a card online you can write what you want and they will actually compose the card and mail it out themselves! How convenient is that?!
google avatar

Rebecca D.

Yelp
I could spend hours AND all my money in this shop, easy. I love the layout of this store. It's not cookie-cutter straight, with perfectly straight rows of racks and shelves...booooooring. Things are stacked. Sideways. Diagonal. On the walls, on the ceiling, on top of each other. It's like a little maze of magic. Odds and ends you wouldn't even know where to find elsewhere. It reminds me of a shop you might see in Diagon Alley. I'm in LOVE with the white ceramic owls they have for sale ($22) and the various Buddha statues ranging from tiny to big. The vintage vanities are beautiful and the assortment of seashell decorations are adorable. I wish I could buy everything but my boyfriend forbids it.

Racheal W.

Yelp
I live less than 50ft. from this store and I'm ashamed that I've never written a review for them before! I literally have not shopped for gifts (for any occasion) anywhere else in years. Today was a 'thank you' gift, last week was a birthday gift, and so on..... The assortment is amazing! Handmade furniture (small items as well), cards for every occasion, candles, jewelry, clothing, glassware, etc, And here's my favorite part.......they always gift wrap for free (time-permitting, but it hasn't failed me yet)! I go in, it takes me 10 minutes to pick out a few cute items, they wrap them up, and I'm on my way. The wrapping is very unique with a beach feel, it definitely stands out. I will continue to do all of my gift shopping here!

Yelp
This was my first trip to curious. I have been looking forward to visiting it for awhile. It definitely did not disappoint! This store has everything!!!! One of a kind furniture, jewelry, home accessories, cards and many gift items!!! This place is a gem. And on top of the great selection- the people who work here are just as great!!' We were greeted warmly as we walked in. We encountered a few different employees while inside- and everyone said hello and asked if they could help. We had our 2 yr old with us and, believe me, there are many stores that just prefer you don't bring in your kids. We get "the look" and are often avoided like the plague. (We are fortunate to have a very well behaved child- this is why we are comfortable bringing him shopping ) The people that worked here were great!!! They interacted with our son and joked with him. He loved it! We will definitely be returning!!!! I see new furniture in our future;)

Yelp
Pros: Cuteness will overwhelm you as you enter this store. I love the selections of gimmicky gifts, greeting cards, and candles. I found the most obscene Christmas card this year and sent it to my less-than-classy friends and they loved it. People are so nice too! Cons: None.
google avatar

Amara S.

Yelp
I absolutely adore this store. Met the owners while walking around and the lady (excuse me for forgetting your name) but she was super sweet and helpful. They have such an array of items from home decor to quirky little things then handcrafted jewelry. Their jewelry selection is so pretty. I definitely want to go back and buy some rings and necklaces. They even have stationary if you're into that, too!
google avatar

Michele P.

Yelp
Cannot say enough GREAT things about this cute, little beachy shop. They have such great decor and jewelry, especially if you're looking for something trendy or beachy. A few of the items are a little pricey but overall, I'm pleased with the price point on most things, especially the jewelry. Last but not least, their customer service & attention to detail is AMAZING! I was trying to make it there after work to grab a gift and they were closing up shop when I arrived. I told the gentleman putting items back in the store that I just wanted to grab a quick gift and without hesitation, he said "Come on in!". After purchasing the gift, he put it in a simple gift box with a stamp of her first initial and a seashell tied around it.

Yelp
I LOVE this store! I can always find unique gifts and all kinds of fun things, many made by local artists. You can easily spend an hour in there just looking at all the cool/crazy things! Do yourself a favor and DO NOT miss the card section! Unique and funny, never found anything as incredible! Also, if you get something as a gift, spend the very minimal amount to have it gift wrapped, its adorable!!

Yelp
Very cool window shopping and great designs. It's an arm and leg for pricing but that doesn't stop manhattan beach house wives slumming it in Hermosa for a little home decor shopping. Great shop and had pretty awesome birthday cards that are a bit quirky and sometimes funny. Love the beach feel and style they have and I probably go in here once a week because I'm just...curious ; )
