The Best Japanese Curry In SF

"The giant plates of Japanese curry at Curry Hyuga in the Mission are large enough to keep you full for the rest of the day, and they arrive so steaming that we’re almost certain they could start a hot air balloon. Once your plate of pork or chicken katsu arrives, direct your attention to the six dried pepper flakes sitting on a carousel at your table. From jalapeño to orange habanero, these crushed flakes let you tune your spice level to just the right spot, taking this plate from good to great. " - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez

Curry Hyuga - Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The Japanese curry from Curry Hyuga in the Mission pulls us in when we want a filling, comforting, and affordable meal, but we also love their creamy corn potage soup for its super sweet corn flavor that lingers on your tongue. There are six curry rice plates to choose from, like the signature katsu curry with pork loin or chicken cutlet and the double menchi curry with minced pork fried to an ASMR-inducing crisp. Each plate can be customized almost limitlessly, with six pepper shakers on each table and the option to add additional karaage, vegetables, cheese, pickles, and even an egg. But don’t let all the toppings distract you from the main event: the rich curry and crunchy katsu—you can get extra of both of those too (and you should)." - Ricky Rodriguez

Rating: 4.6/5 [dine in] Service was great, and the food came out quickly. The restaurant itself is a bit run-down and could use some repairs, but the food more than makes up for it. Note that they do charge a 4% SF Healthy Mandate fee, and some of the menu prices don't match up with what they charge. We definitely over-ordered and had plenty of leftovers, but we left super satisfied! Beef Hayashi Om-Rice ($17): Thinly sliced beef simmered in a European-style gravy sauce, served over egg and white rice. This was delicious—especially the gravy. Teppanji Chicken ($8.50): Sizzling chicken with onion-infused namban sauce. Wow—this was one of the best fried chicken dishes I've had in a long time. Huge, flavorful pieces fried to perfection. I actually enjoyed this more than the tonkatsu. Tonkatsu Pork À La Carte ($6): Their tonkatsu paired perfectly with the curry sauce. The pork slices are thick, with a nicely crisp breaded coating. Note the price on the menu doesn't match ($5). Menchi Katsu À La Carte ($4): Minced pork cutlet with the same breading as the tonkatsu. Simple but good. Note the price on the menu doesn't match ($3.50). Curry Sauce on the Side ($4.50): Fire! Tasted homemade and distinctly different from the curry cubes you'd find at the supermarket. Matcha Nigori Bottle ($10.50): So good and worth it! Tasty and enough for 2–3 people to share.

Ordered the Classic Pork Katsu-Don set. This is served with rice, tori-jiru chicken miso soup, and sunomono salad. This is a pretty large portion so it’s great if you’ve got a big appetite; if you have a smaller to regular appetite, you may end up with leftovers or you may want to share the main pork tonkatsu. The miso soup was very warming for your body and the salad which consisted of cucumbers, shrimp, and seaweed had a crisp taste. The pork tonkatsu was delicious, the pork outer layer maintained its crispiness and it was firm and savory. The pickled radish on the side was also crisp and sweet to break through the fattiness of the pork. The omelet-style egg and grilled onions were very good too. Service was fast and the crowd picks up during the dinner rush, there were a lot of food delivery pickup orders so it seems this spot is very popular too. This was a pleasant place to check out and is definitely great for those craving a hot Japanese comfort meal.

12/17/2024* We tried their katsu curry udon, which is surprisingly good! Highly recommend it. I ordered their Karaage Curry Rice Entree, which features caramelized onion curry served with shredded cabbage, creamy potato salad, and Fukujin pickles. We also tried their Teppanji, sizzling chicken with onion-infused namban sauce, which was really flavorful and tender. 6/24/2024 I ordered their Karaage Curry Rice Entree, which features caramelized onion curry served with shredded cabbage, creamy potato salad, and Fukujin pickles. For those who love spice, Curry Hyuga offers five different options: Bird's eye, serrano pepper, jalapeno pepper, pequin pepper, and wiri wiri pepper. Personally, I found the wiri wiri pepper and bird's eye powder to be exceptional choices. Their spiciness elevates the curry to a whole new level, enhanced by the unique fragrance of the peppers!

Generous portions of flavorful Japanese curry with lots of customization options. For those who like spice, the table has shakers of different types of dried chili peppers at varying scoville levels.

Google
Probably the best Japanese curry I've had, perfect on a chilly evening. Beer served in an ice cold glass. Perfect plate with salad and pickled veg. Meat crisp and juicy. Truly a faultless meal. The only disappointment was that the spice level in the curry was so perfect that I had no need to try the half-dozen or so types of chili on the table, arranged by heat level.

Thrilled to have a new Japanese curry spot practically in my backyard! This cute little gem, just a short walk from my house, is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The cozy space, however, has limited seating which could mean a wait at times, but luckily we were seated right away. We started with some bites of karrage and a delicious corn potage soup, both of which I’d order again. Then I dove into the pork katsu-don. The portion was incredibly generous, with a perfectly crispy panko-crusted pork cutlet nestled in a rich, flavorful curry. The accompanying sides - a refreshing sunomono salad and a steaming bowl of miso soup - great complements to the meal. The only thing keeping this dish from a perfect score was the pork itself, which leaned a touch dry. A bit more juiciness in the meat would have sent it over the top. My partner had the tonkatsu pork curry and agreed with my sentiments. Overall, this new spot is a winner. Friendly service, delicious curry, and generous portions (I barely ate half my meal, it was huge!) make it a must-try, especially for those evenings when you crave a comforting, flavorful meal close to home. Pro-tip, ask for the spices. You’ll get a selection of heat from levels 1-6. Level 5 was my fav!

In a cold rainy night, Japanese curry will be a perfect food to warm ourselves. If you want an authentic Japanese curry, this is the place. I used to go to the one in Burlingame, but it always had lines of people waiting. Luck me that they have one in SFO. Last Friday was cold and raining hard and I wanted to have Japanese curry for dinner. I wanted to order to go, but I knew the quality will not be the same as fresh off the kitchen. I made an effort to come here by take a bus. I was right to come in person to have this amazing curry fried pork with rice. The portion of the pork was relatively big and nicely fried. I also had fried potato and corn soup as well. Crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. Same as fried potato. The night was cold, I should have asked to make the soup hotter. They also have little bottles of different levels of hot pepper spices on tables. Each bottle has a label telling you the level (1-5) of the hotness. Ghost pepper needs to be requested because that's the hottest. My suggestion is to try a little bit first before you decide you go crazy on it like I did with ghost pepper for the first time. I totally underestimated it. I sweated like a dog. I learned my lesson. Parking could be difficult especially at nights. It's close to an entrance of a freeway, so traffic can be expected. The services were great and I enjoyed talking to a guy whose in charge of that place. One thing I learned about this business was that the majority of food except rice, lettuce, sliced carrots, was prepped in a same place where all the food and curry are delivered to SFO, Burlingame, and Cupertino. That's why the quality of the curry and food are very consistent. Yes. It could be more money spent on the business, but to me as a former business owner, I would do the same to keep the good quality consistent. I definitely will come back to have some more. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Yes it's hard to find parking, but we gotta put some effort in order to have some good quality of Japanese curry. If you live in SFO, take a bus. If you drive, go a bit farther for parking.

Hands down best curry spot in SF, reminds me most of what you’ll get in Japan for a reasonable price.

Yelp
Sooo yummy. They're moving down to somewhere in Mission on July 12! Plenty if seating Friday at 6pm. We seated immediately for 4 people. I love pairing the curry katsu with beer because it adds a nice bitterness depth to the meal. Also, the cold contrasts the warmth of the curry well. Of course, I liked the spices, especially the bird eye which adds some kick. It was nice to share a large edamame with the group - they provide a little side plate for your empty pods. The katsu pork was so crisp and juicy. One of my favorite comfort meals in the city.

Yelp
We came here for dinner and both ordered the signature katsu curry. I hadn't had much to eat the whole day, so I also ordered an ajitama egg with my curry. Our curries came quickly, and they were piping hot! The curry was super flavorful with tons of umami, and it was the perfect consistency--not too runny and not too thick. Meanwhile, the katsu was fresh and crispy, which provided a great textural contrast. I got the chicken katsu while my friend asked for pork, and there surprisingly wasn't a big difference between them. On each plate, there is also shredded cabbage, fukujin pickles, and potato salad. I loved the pickles and potato salad and found them super refreshing in between bites of the curry. There are also sets of spices on every table that range from level 1 (jalapeno) to 6 (habanero). I love spicy food, and sprinkled a good amount of level 6 spice into my curry. It definitely became pretty spicy, so watch out if you're sensitive! Overall, I would highly recommend this spot for a warm and comforting meal! The service is incredibly quick, and there is also a button at the table that you can press whenever you need anything.

Yelp
Service was really good 10/10. We came with a group of 9 and was able to get seated right away around 7pm on a Saturday. We got a table for 8 at first and then ended up having to add another person and the staff was very welcoming and pulled up an extra chair for us. Also, I came later than the rest of the group and they were able to put in their order first. But then my food came out right at the same time as them (which was right away). There was one mishap where we accidentally got a wrong table's food delivered (and we started eating it unknowingly). After the staff figured out the mistake we still got the original dish delivered even though we were willing to just cancel it. Thanks!! Note the pasta dishes took much longer to come out than the rice dieshes. I got the chicken katsu but I tried my friend's pork katsu and preferred that one. I liked how crunchy the katsu was. The ratio of curry to rice was decent. Maybe 1 dollop more curry would have been perfect but I made it out okay. You can only split your check 2 ways so plan accordingly!

Yelp
Nice Japanese curry! The outside of the store looks really big and nice, especially when the outdoor lights are turned off at night! The staff are super friendly and greet you when you enter and when you leave. Staff answers questions from you even if the questions seem basic Inside is nicely renovated and clean. Portions are pretty good. Taste is ok, not bad. Overall a nice Japanese curry place!

Yelp
My daughter found this place on her phone, so we gandered near the freeway entrance on Market Street and found Curry Hyuga. The chicken katsu curry was flavorful, crunchy and juicy. I ordered Shiso Mentaiko Cream pasta, which has layers of flavor profiles w/ quite an outstanding Al dente spaghetti. The yuzu lemonade was a miss for us - it could be more flavorful/ lemony. Really tasty, reasonably priced Japanese dishes here, with an extremely hardworking waiter, who deserves a good tip. The ambiance is simple clean and welcoming!

Yelp
Wow--Japanese curry has always been a comfort food for me, but this place made me crave it on a whole new level. I didn't even know corn soup was a thing, but the moment I tasted the corn potage soup, I knew everything else was going to hit. Creamy, slightly sweet, and surprisingly satisfying for such a simple starter. The chicken karaage was generously portioned and fried to perfection--crisp on the outside, juicy inside. I ordered the curry pork katsu, which came with a smoky, savory sauce and a nicely breaded, tender cutlet. My boyfriend got the beef hayashi om-rice, and while the demiglace was velvety and rich, I personally preferred the boldness of the curry. I also really enjoyed the two roasted red bell pepper slices that came with the beef om-rice, as well as the cabbage and potato salad sides. I can see why Curry Hyuga has been mentioned on Yelp's top 100 places to eat. The food is comforting, deeply flavorful, and reasonably priced--definitely a spot I'll be coming back to.

Yelp
Excellent quality, good price, large quantity Staff was very friendly, spacious spot on a Saturday, not packed at home. One of my top spots for Japanese curry!

Yelp
Plain and simple, a Japanese curry place which certainly hits the spot every time. I usually get the karaage curry but there are also other options, of course with katsu. The plate is large though deceptively looks menial due to the ocean of curry compared to the small island of rice. However this is no walk in the park, very filling. I'd advise trying the spices on the table, a level 5 spice added a small kick without being painful. Solid place.
google avatar

Stacy L.

Yelp
Amazing curry! I usually get the signature katsu curry, but today I tried the beef hayashi om-rice. It was tasty and different - very flavorful. I think I still prefer the katsu curry but it was certainly worth trying! I love the pickles too! My partner asks for his rice to come with the egg when he orders the katsu curry. Might cost extra (I can't remember) but it's worth it!

Yelp
I met up with some friends in South Bay over the weekend and got the chance to try this out. We got there about 12:15PM and had 10+ parties ahead of us. In total I think we waited about an hour. Their system is really nice though; you will get a text when it's close to your turn and that you should return to the store. I ended up getting a pork curry katsu and corn potage soup. The katsu comes with rice, cabbage, potato salad, and pickled radish. The pork katsu was a good size, nicely fried, and had a crispy exterior. The pork was not dry at all. The sauce was different from what I'm used to, in a good way, and was slightly acidic. I really liked the potato salad, as it was super creamy and well-balanced. The corn potage soup was delicious. Creamy while not being heavy, with really good corn flavor. Some croutons for texture and I just couldn't get enough of the soup! Staff was really nice and efficient. Dishes are brought out quickly and tables cleaned well too. Bathroom is clean. I enjoyed the food but may go for takeout next time to avoid the long lines.
google avatar

Talaya S.

Yelp
Delicious! I don't know how else to describe it! The service was great because there was a button you could press at the table so you don't have to awkwardly wave down someone when you need help. There was a good amount of space and did not feel cramp.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid chicken katsu curry spot! Great service, generous portions, and the chicken katsu was nice and crispy. The curry had good flavor, though I've had other places with a bit more spice and more memorable sides.

Yelp
Curry Hyuga is now one of our go-to's for Japanese Curry in the city as the food has always been solid every time we've been. For the past couple times we've been here we just did walk-in and we were able to get seating very easily with no wait. The interior is clean and modern, with ample tables for groups to sit in. I've gotten the Pork Katsu curry along with the Corn Potage soup, which both are great dishes! The katsu here is really crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, while the curry has a lot of flavor in it. They also have an interesting spice rack with various levels of spiciness so you can customize your own dish if you want it to have more of a kick. If you're looking for Japanese Curry in SF, this is another great spot to check out!

Yelp
Solid spot for some Japanese curry! The katsu was crunchy and chicken was not dry. The curry flavor was balanced and I like the potato salad that they give on the side. Everything is reasonably priced. Server was chill and food came out pretty quickly. Ambiance is casual and very clean.

Yelp
Visited on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30pm with a friend, the restaurant had a few other guest but plenty of open seats., so no wait. Service is order at the counter and they bring out the dishes for you when they are ready. Food: Signature Katsu Curry - ordered with chicken katsu, really tasty, katsu was hot and fresh with a nice crispy breading without being oil, the curry had great depth of flavor and a nice spice level. This was served with rice, shaved cabbage, pickled ginger, and potato salad. Portion size was hearty and paired well with a sprinkle of the thai birds eye chili to add a little bit more heat. Katsu Curry Udon - tried one bite of my friends and enjoyed this as well, the pork katsu was also well prepared, curry was thin and soupy but with a nice viscosity to coat the noodles, Flavor of the curry was a little lighter but still very good. Personally preferred the signature but nice to see a little variety of offerings on the menu. Service was good, really quick and efficient. They brought out a carafe of water once we were seated which was great to help cut some of the heat. Overall enjoyed the hearty and warming katsu curry, worth a visit if you want a stick to your ribs meal on a cold evening in SF.

Yelp
My daughter said it's the best curry she ever had -- and I kinda agree!! Their Japanese style curry dishes are full of flavors but not too spicy or greasy. We ordered 2 curry dishes and 1 Om-rice. All good! My favorite is the ginger park curry - big chucks of tender and tasty pork! If you like lots of protein in your meal this one just might hit the spot for you! Service is super nice, polite (has that Japanese formality) and attentive. Small place but clean, elegant, and a nice relaxing vibe. Very reasonable prices given the amount of food you get. No hesitation for me to give them 5 stars!

Yelp
Curry Huga is absolutely flavorful and delicious! The Pork Katsu curry is amazing as the katsu is perfectly crispy on the outside while the meat is moist and airy on the inside. The curry sauce is also rich and pairs lovely with the katsu making it a perfectly balanced dish. One of the cool things at Curry Huga is that you can also customize the spice of the curry with their basket of spicy seasonings that allows you to choose the heat level of 1-6 to add the spice atop the curry. I personally loved the level 6 spice. Another great menu item is the creamy potato soup which is packed with velvety flavor and a great appetizer to start the meal. If you are a Japanese curry lover, Curry Huga is a must-try spot!

Yelp
This gem in the mission is a great place for good filling meal. The curry is great and I'm a fan of the original chicken katsu. The corn porridge is a must have! Service is great, the team there are very welcoming and endearing. Your time there doesn't feel like a restaurant. I like this location a little bit more than Burlingame since it's a slightly bigger.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Casual, straightforward place for some good Japanese curry. They also serve the beer in a chilled glass :) I ordered the pork katsu meal which came with soup and noodles and my friend ordered the double Menchi curry. Both were delicious, but if I were to come here again I would get a curry.
google avatar

Jenny W.

Yelp
Still such a great, casual, affordable spot. Tried the chicken katsu don, which I don't think was quite as good as the pork tonkatsu don. Also, for some reason, this time my dish unfortunately was more spicy (I suspect just more generous use of togarashi). But if you're craving chicken, try the teppanji - super tender, juicy chicken with a crispy exterior. Might be my new favorite dish here. Also got a side of the potato croquette, which I didn't love the texture (super creamy) + flavor of (might just be my personal taste).

Yelp
Craving a filling and comfort meal on a cold day in sf? Curry Hyuga is theeee place with its rich curries and crunchy protein options, packed with flavor and portion aka get ready for that to go box. This is honestly the best japanese curry place in SF, having tried some other popular curry spots around the city and such a good value since portion size is huge! I usually order a signature katsu curry and occasionally order a menchi (pork+veggie patty) as a side. The curry comes with cabbage, potato salad, and pickled ginger which are all perfect accompaniments with their creamy + acid + texture to cut through the rich curry. They also have spice powders (with different levels) for you to choose and customize ur curry spice level on the side. The servers are friendly - greeting you when u arrive and leave the restaurant (very japanese which is sweet). The restaurant isn't too big on Market street, clean but parking can sometimes be difficult so bus over or plan accordingly! Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Value 5/5

Yelp
The best curry spot in SF. Katsu curry (with udon) 5/5 Katsu don 5/5 Customer service 5/5 You best believe there were no crumbs in our bowls after we demolished our dinner. It is sooooo delicious. Nothing is more comforting than a bowl of curry. This place is so adorable. When you first walk in, you are immediately greeted with the friendliest "Irasshaimase! (Welcome!)" and "Arigatō! (Thank you!)" when you leave. The waitress was so sweet, always refilling our water cups and asking how our meal was. Plenty of tables and parking is easy to find nearby.

Yelp
Came here a few times with friends and it never disappoints! I've gotten both the pork katsu and the chicken katsu and both are really good! I like the pork a bit more because it's fattier, but both are solid! The service here is also already so good, the servers are always super sweet and attentive. One of my favorite fast casual spots in sf, definitely recommend this place for a quick bite with friends!

Yelp
* date visited: 08.30.2024 * ordered: chicken katsu curry and pork katsu curry * overall: the curry was yummy well and the consistency wasn't too runny or too thick. also not too salty the real star of the show is the katsu in my opinion, the portion is big, meat juicy. the breading sticks well and is nice and crispy, and i really enjoy that they drizzles the katsu sauce on it. cabbage slaw, fukujinzuke, and potato salad are all a nice refreshing addition to an otherwise very heavy dish lol the seasonings included at the table are so FUN and really let you customize to your spice liking! i really enjoyed this! and would definitely come again and try their other dishes. the service was fantastic and quick and they were really attentive.

Yelp
My partner named it his favorite Japanese curry katsu in the city! The flavors of the curry and quality & crispiness of the pork katsu is chef's kiss. The service is so sweet and friendly, and I love the casual vibe of this place. Everything's clean, and they're quick with your order. Place can fill up, but tables also rotate quickly so I wouldn't be worried about finding a spot. Highly recommend you get a beer when you're here because they keep the glasses super cold, and the way they foam the beer just makes it sooo satisfying.

Yelp
Best Japanese Curry restaurant in the bay area, especially for the price (amazingly cheap). 10/10 would recommend checking out if you are visiting the bay area. Here are some pictures of some food I ordered there. Portion size (especially for the price) is great.

Yelp
Japanese curry is a category of its own. My husband really likes Japanese curry. We came to Curry Hyuga because we were in the area and I'm really glad I discovered it. Too bad it's not walkable from our house. I got the corn potage and the hayashi omelette rice. I really love a good hayashi rice. Both were good. The hayashi sauce was a little too well seasoned but the flavor was good. Friendly and fast service.
google avatar

Yelp
First time at Curry Hyuga after hearing great reviews, and decided to family style so we could try everything We got the corn potage soup, signature katsu curry, beef hayashi omurice, and shiso mentaiko cream pasta. The pasta was probably my favorite menu item, along with the corn potage soup. We didn't wait long at all to get seated, despite it being a Friday night. Such a yummy dinner catching up with friends!
google avatar

Alice S.

Yelp
The curry here is great! I ordered the signature pork katsu curry and really enjoyed my meal. The curry was very flavorful, while the katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and didn't taste too oily. Even the rice was tasty and had a great texture. There were also six different types of seasonings you can add to your curry, varying from not so spicy to very spicy. I tried level 6, which was the spiciest. It definitely adds a kick to the curry but wasn't too painfully spicy. Service was friendly, and the ordering system was seamless as well.

Yelp
Curry Hyuga is located next to the highway entrance near mission. It's not the cutest location but the interior is decorated nicely and feels roomy and welcoming. We came on a weekday night and it wasn't crowded at all, so we were seated immediately. You order by buzzing a button on the table to call a waiter over. We got the signature chicken katsu curry. I liked that it came with some potato salad! The chicken was cooked well and I loved the crisp of it. The curry itself was ok, it tasted a bit more sour than I would have liked. I kinda wish the amount of curry was proportional to everything else in the dish, so more chicken, rice and cabbage would have been nice. The curry ended up being super filling so I was able to bring leftovers home! Overall the food here is solid but not sure if I would make the trek out here again.

We tried their katsu curry udon, which is surprisingly good!

Yelp
Curry Hyuga - If you're looking for top-tier Japanese curry in LA, Curry Hyuga is the spot! This place serves some of the best katsu curry I've had--rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. We ordered: Chicken Katsu Curry - The pork cutlet was incredibly crispy on the outside, yet juicy and tender inside. The curry was thick, fragrant, and packed with deep umami flavors. The shredded cabbage and pickled radish on the side added a nice contrast. Veggie Katsu Curry - The vegetarian katsu was equally delicious, with a soft, flavorful filling that paired beautifully with the curry. The curry sauce here is the star--rich, slightly sweet, with just the right amount of spice. Portions are generous, and every bite is pure comfort food. The plating was neat, and the drizzle of tonkatsu sauce on top added an extra layer of flavor. Service was quick and friendly, and the cozy atmosphere made for a great dining experience. If you love Japanese curry, Curry Hyuga is a must-visit! Must-try: chicken katsu curry Perfect for: Comfort food lovers, quick casual dining Will definitely be back for another round of katsu curry!

Yelp
What is it about Japanese curry that makes me turn into a kid in my mom's kitchen when she made it with Golden Curry, carrots, potatoes, and pearl onions and ladled it over her rice? That's a vivid memory from my childhood and one that makes me compare everybody else's with hers. In that respect, Curry Hyuga measures up pretty well. I was looking forward to trying this spot because it looked quite popular with a young Asian crowd. Why not put a little faith into these aspiring tastemakers? Well, I walked in around 6PM when they had just a handful of customers. The menu offered six different curries, each one providing its own unique appeal. I chose the $16 Karaage Curry. It takes six hours to make their caramelized onion-based curry sauce. It's poured into a pool on a platter accompanied by shredded cabbage, creamy potato salad, fukujin pickles, rice (kinda skimpy), and of course, karaage (photo: https://yelp.to/hxiNl38tf9). I didn't realize it was a garlic soy chicken because it was honestly tasty, especially the housemade crust. I'll come back and try the others. My mom might've approved. FOOD - 4 stars...velvety curry coupled with vegan chicken, needs more rice AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...contemporary modern SERVICE - 4 stars...polite as you'd expect TOTAL - 4 stars...curry like my Japanese mom never made RELATED - Exploring Hayes Valley? Yelp
This restaurant is solid for their price point and taste. We door dash'd and it still hit the spot. Definitely will dine in at some point!

Yelp
Food 3.5/5 - The curry was pretty good standard Japanese curry. My chicken cutlet however had a lot of breading, which made it not as appetizing to eat later in the meal. It was also cut not that well maybe because the breading was so thick. Service 5/5 - The waiters greet you right as you walk in with a big smile on their face. So kind! Ambiance 5/5 - The restaurant was very clean. There is one section where we sat where the tables were really close together due to the cramped space, but other than that, it was nice.

Yelp
Hands down the best curry I've tried in SF! I've been back multiple times and it is always reliably delicious. HIGHLY recommend the kaarage, it is so incredibly fresh and crispy. The servers are always very kind and food comes out quickly. This is a great restaurant for groups of all sizes, it's a must try!

Yelp
I got the pork tonkatsu curry and it was delicious. The portion was pretty sizable and the curry was very flavorful with deep nuance. The cutlet was pretty large and a little thick but juicy. The breading was great. I loved the pickles too. You can't choose spice levels but you can add spice powders from level 1-6. I enjoyed the level 5 Wiri Wiri Pepper and the Level 2 one. The level 6 has a good kick to it. カレーはとてもおいしかった!Wish they had some carrots and potatoes. Think Nippon Curry is a little better. The service was quick and wasn't too busy around 1pm. Nice small ish interior with a decent amount of seating.

Yelp
One of my favorite comfort meals in the city. For 17 bucks you get a hefty serving of rice curry and your choice of chicken or tonkatsu. Go here if you're craving Japanese curry!

Yelp
After eating at Curry Hyuga, I was raving about it to anyone who would listen for about a week! I went with my coworkers for a Wednesday lunch and we all got curry plates. I got the chicken katsu curry and it was delicious. I loved the caramelized onion-based curry, the depth of flavor is sooo good! The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly with the crispy panko outside with juicy chicken inside. Definitely come early for lunch because the place fills up!

Yelp
Curry Hyuga is a great spot to get your curry fix! Parking is extremely difficult so you may need to park a few blocks away in order to eat here. The servers were quick to greet us and seated us promptly upon arrival. I ordered the chicken karage omurice curry and the dish itself was extremely filling. The meat to rice to curry ratio was perfect and each bite was well balanced. The egg was silky and coated the rice beautifully. The chicken was juicy and delectable but the chicken got soggy quite fast. I really enjoyed the spices on the side that can be added onto the curry. Curry Hyuga is very clean and service is great. Cant wait to come back to try their other items.

Yelp
I have been to their Burlingame location before and this location is just as awesome. I ordered the pork katsu curry and portion is big like always. Flavor is great and does not disappoint. I full recommend!

Yelp
I am a sucker for Japanese curry! I keep boxes of Golden Curry at home, but the Japanese flavors just hit different when fresh from the restaurant for this kind of comfort food. A Japanese fast casual spot with a wide selection of curry entrees. Each table has a call button to alert the server which is convenient. I loved the Signature Chicken Katsu Curry Rice entree, which was perfectly breaded and fried, with a deep and robust Japanese curry "gravy". The katsu cutlet sits on a bed of shredded cabbage and there's a side of delicious tsukemono pickles. I would get this again and again. A second time I dined here, I got the Double Menchi Katsu Classic Teishoku Rice Plate (no picture, sorry!). I really liked the Double Menchi Katsu, two breaded ground meat patties that tasted like fancy fried meatballs. The sauce was non-curry, but pretty tasty. What threw me off was the side of what looked and tasted like spaghetti, which I could have done without. Bottom line: a no frills Japanese curry spot that hits the spot!

Yelp
Came here on a Friday evening for a dinner with a friend. Left incredibly satisfied and full! Each table is equipped with a ringer to call a server if needed. However they were pretty diligent in swinging by our table to check in and refill our water. My friend and I shared the Teppanji appetizer. It was basically chicken karaage with sauce. But wow it was super flavorful and tender. I was not given a knife but my spoon was plenty to cut the chicken. The fried outside stayed nice and crispy as the sauce was on the bottom of the plate- I wish I realized sooner since the first piece I had barely had any sauce on it! But it was honestly delicious with and without the sauce. For my main, I got the Signature Katsu Curry (Chicken). I was blown away. I got a fairly large dish with curry on the bottom, then rice on one half of the plate. Above the rice was some shaved cabbage, followed by the chicken Katsu. The Chicken Katsu was extraordinary, a perfect balance of crunchy exterior and tender and juicy meat inside. The shaved cabbage was a great idea as it kept the chicken from getting soggy from the rice. The curry itself had so much flavor- I find it hard to fully explain, but I'm still thinking about how great the taste was. Especially when you mix it was some rice, cabbage, and the chicken katsu. Finally, I got an add-on egg. That egg was soft boiled and added an extra creamy texture to the curry! Would definitely say it's worth the $1.5 extra. On the table, there is a set of spice powders, labeled from 1 to 10 on hotness scale. The label also states the type of spice. For example, I added 8 - Orange Habanero to my curry. It added this excellent sweet heat that I always enjoy. I will definitely be returning and I wouldn't be surprised if this starts to be part of my regular rotation of restaurants. Look forward to their liquor license!

Yelp
This place was introduced to me by my friend. She took me here and recommended the first item that was on the menu, either pork cutlet or chicken katsu curry, but I usually like karaage more so I chose that. However.... it wasn't the best. The chicken portions are enormous, but the texture kinda threw me off. Perfect crunchines on the outside, but felt like it could've been cooked longer. Same for the chicken side that we got. It started with a T. The edamame is amazing and so was the egg done!! Curry was not too salty either. Great customer service. Other than that, if I ever come here I'm getting the chicken katsu only!

Yelp
Really cute spot with the most amazing host/waitress possible. She ran the front of the house like the navy and was so kind, getting everyone who walks in and out. This restaurant is super cozy and comfortable inside, and the food was great. I had the Teishoku rice place and shared the Teppanji. The rice plate was great, full of flavors, and came with lots of exciting sides. The Teppanji was also great, and was a huge portion for being an appetizer. Overall this is definitely a gem of a restaurant and the perfect spot if you're craving curry.
