My husband and I had brunch at this place and I was blown away by the food quality and how appetizing it is. Service was impeccable, the staff were truly lovey. We paid 25,50€ each for the brunch. I did not take pictures of the main course because I was so mesmerized by the smell I just ate before taking pictures lol

A super stunning experience. The quality of the food was good and it was served with the little bit introduction from the staff about the food they are serving to us. The staff were nice and accommodating. Overall experience was super. This Restaurant makes us really feel that we are on vacation. Good Job.

I had one of the best best South Indian food last night in Vienna here and I am spellbound . The people are amazing , the food is top notch and authentic . The service is super kind and friendly . The amazing Cook from whom we were lucky to get served last night recommended so many lovely dishes from the menu and everything was soooo delicious . I see many reviews complaining they were not hospitable , I disagree, even when they were understaffed , they were kind , attentive and we saw everyone were treated so well and we felt so warmly welcomed . The food is comforting so were the people. Highly recommend their Masala dosa , string hoppers with stew , kadalai vadai , Medhu vadai , Parota . The chutney and sambar were delicious too. So glad to have visited this place and can’t wait to try their weekend brunch .

Food was awesome. Service was slow. It was written that above 25€, card is allowed. But while paying they mentioned 10% extra need to pay or pay as cash.

Was very excited to find a Sri Lankan restaurant close to our hotel. Was looking forward to eating the spicy, flavorful Sri Lankan food one knows and is accustomed to! However, the experience was utterly disappointing. The restaurant was relatively empty - tables had stained table cloths, we chose one that was least stained! Were waited upon by one lady who was by herself running around serving all tables. Ordered Kadale Vada, Masala Tea, and Citron Soda, followed by Sri Lankan Saadam Thali ( Rice, 3 veggies, a meat curry), and Vegetarian Saadam Thali (Rice and 5 veggies). The Vada was tasty and that gave us hope. The mains however were atrocious - extremely small portions nestled in the midst of a bed of rice - all dishes were utterly tasteless and flavorless; scary when the Raitha becomes the tastiest dish on the plate! Service after the initial attention was non-existent. The lady never returned to enquire about us, no care whatsoever, just busy running around attending to a bunch of locals. Felt completely neglected, finished the meal hurriedly, paid at the counter, and departed as quickly as we could. The entire experience set us back a fat 42 EUR - a complete waste of money. A low-budget operation that surprisingly has 4.4 stars; really needs to buck up a lot so as not to continue to be an insult to the marvelous cuisine from that beautiful island! A pity…

There was insufficient staff available to properly serve the customers, and the food quality was disappointing with notably small portions. The chef had to decline my request for a biriyani—despite it being listed on the menu—due to being too busy, which was quite unexpected. This is, unfortunately, the worst Sri Lankan restaurant I have visited in Europe. I spent €48 for 2 dishes (string hoppers & Thosa) and it was absolutely not worth the price for anyone seeking an authentic Sri Lankan dining experience. The dishes did not reflect true Sri Lankan flavours at all.

The outdoor sitting was really cosy and the service was good. The food was disappointing, the dosa was good and that's about it. The chilly chicken was horrible. I said it can be spicy as I love spicy food, but this was just chilly powder water, I couldn't taste anything else. Porotta was old and tasteless.

If you want to try authentic Sri Lankan and South Indian tasty cuisine do not hesitate to come to Curry Insel. I love this place.

Curry Insel is a very popular Sri Lankan restaurant on a charming street in the Josefstadt neighborhood in Vienna. It's Running Curry weekend brunches are always filled but dinner during the week is also best attempted with a reservation. What to eat here always requires a lot of choice - one reason being that the menu is so large. Sometimes I think every possible Sri Lankan food is on this menu. At a recent mid-week meal, I reverted to the familiar and started with a quite tasty string hoppers soup. This chicken soup with the plentiful Sri Lankan string hoppers was perfect for a chilly December evening. My main course of Saadam also filled the bill. The chili chicken curry was very, very spicy which is how I ordered it and the usual three veggie accompaniment with a papadam and cooling yoghurt salad made for a hearty dinner. For my beverage I went with a flavorful cooling drink - Guava Lassi - and was glad I did. Service was excellent and friendly. Curry Insel is def a top-notch Sri Lankan restaurant in Vienna!

One of my favorite restaurants in Vienna. I've been a regular here for years and I love the flavors. I usually order "Saadam", which is a plate of either 3 vegetable curries and 1 meat curry or 4 vegetable curries. The veggies used are always seasonal and there's always dhal (lentils). I can recommend the Masala Chai (tea) which is usually drunk with milk and sugar. The waitress is a lovely woman from Sri Lanka. If the place is packed, expect to wait a while for your food, but it's worth waiting as everything is made fresh.

well well the curry insel , I don't know if the name fit actually I was invited there for dinner so I didn't chose the restaurant; I was so existed as I am a real fun of all curry & Co food. The atmosphere was nice and very heavy with oil smell: I trust they should rethink about the aeration system. You can have direct view at the kitchen and the small bar when you sit in the main room; the decoration is interesting (if you like eating while being stared by huge painting of faces like Bollywood poster than you are well served! saw it only in one wall , weren't in the other room) Now the food, the taste wasn't bad but I was not impressed at all by the quality of even the decoration how the food is served, the service was ok. So all in all I believe I won't be back there before a long time.

We went in for the weekend brunch because it sounded really good, and it wasn't bad at all, but the description on the net (on their website) was completely different from what we finally ate, so be prepared for that. The reason this isn't a 5-star review was because there was very little about this meal that struck me as sri lankan, or even as south indian, as opposed to just standard indian restaurant food. There were a couple of really yummy things that were served, the coconut roti with the onion curry, the sambar and the coconut rice. But the vada and the idli were the smallest I've ever seen, about the seize of a large coin, I honestly don't remember what they tasted like, they were so small. The upma was dry, there was only one meat curry (and it was ok, but not good) and a daal. The daal was actually quite good, but I'm not sure what place a not very authentic yellow lentil daal has on their brunch menu, it was a quite out of place. Their menu looks like it has more authentically sri lankan/south indian fare off their a la carte menu and I will definitely be returning to try that, but personally, I won't be eating their brunch again.
