Hands down one of the best moments of my adult life. The rooftop kitchen offered sweeping views of the surrounding foothills and coffee farms, and the entire atmosphere was intoxicating from the moment we arrived.
We booked a private workshop so my vegan husband and I (gluten-free) could both enjoy every dish. I'm sure they would have easily accommodated our dietary needs in a group class as well, but we wanted the full experience. Setting it up was seamless, including roundtrip shuttle service.
Darío was incredible. He's a hilarious storyteller and a deeply knowledgeable cook, and he had us completely enthralled from start to finish. The class was taught in English, but he was generous, patient, and encouraging as we practiced our Spanish along the way, which made it feel even more immersive.
We made three traditional Guatemalan dishes: boxboles (masa dumplings wrapped in greens), vegetable pepián (a spiced stew), and rellenitos (sweet plantains filled with refried beans and cacao). We also prepared a radish salad, a fresh salsa, and hand-pressed tortillas. Every part of it was genuinely special! Engaging, generous, and so well done. Our next visit to Antigua will absolutely include another Cuscun cooking class.
