Pictou is a very charming, but quite small town today. It’s remarkable to think how much trade they must have been doing back in the 19th century to require such a grand customs building, with neighboring train station. Fortunately, travelers today can still enjoy the architecture by staying at the inn. We had room 1C, with views out to the water, 14 foot ceilings, huge arched windows, and a remarkable old fireplace. The room was very large and airy, with quite a big bathroom as well. Breakfast is more than sufficient to start your day, with toast, cereal, and yogurt, although there is no hot food. The Inn is located on the water, within a few blocks of all the sights and restaurants in town. One caveat if you have mobility issues: you can request a room on the ground floor to avoid the long flight of stairs to the second floor. However, the breakfast area is in the basement.
