We had a delightful stay in this magnificent and historic building in October/24. We were on the trail of my husband’s Scottish family and the owner knew all the people in his family or who knew them. It was mesmerizing and I picked the perfect location for information! It was good because the Museum is not open on the weekends, unfortunate knowing so many tourists must visit there on those days. We are Haligonians originally but came up to follow our leads from Ancestry.com. And the weather during our stay was atrocious once we hit Cape Breton. Be aware it has its own weather up that northern end of our province. But our start in Pictou was excellent thanks to the Customs House owner.

We had a wonderful overnight stay. Very clean and very spacious room. The inn is walkable to the waterfront restaurants and shops. Lots of history in the area. We definitely recommend and would stay there again.

Cute place. Something came up with the owner and they were not around for our check in or check out, but they were very communicative about it, and we still got access to our room easily. Rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. Great location too - we were able to walk along the pier to all the restaurants and shops. We were very happy with our stay.

Very clean and spacious rooms in old government building with lots of character. Beautiful wood finishing, wide doors, lots of windows, on the harbour. Has a small kitchenette, stove top, fridge. The inn is within walking distance to restaurants and a short 5 minute drive to the ferry. I would stay here again!

An incredible old building with a great history that has been converted to a deluxe hotel with modern rooms that retain the charm of the building while providing all the comforts we are used to. Very clean and well kept. It's located right on the waterfront and the town of Pictou is super walkable...even for old folks like us. What could it use? And ice machine and some picnic tables to enjoy the outdoors and the incredible views a bit more. All in all...if we are ever back...this would be my first choice.

My wife and I, along with another couple, stayed here. What a lovely spot! I love repurposed historic properties like this, especially when they are taken care of. The rooms are large, well appointed, nicely furnished, and extremely clean. The washrooms are updated and ours had a jacuzzi tub. You couldn’t be more central to local businesses. There was a nice local breakfast spot across the street. We also purchased Grohman knives and some nice crafts. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. It’s comfortable and unique, and in my opinion, extremely reasonable. Don’t pass this by.

Very disappointing. Advertised as an inn with delicious breakfasr and friendly staff, was nothing but a room with no onsite staff. When we arrived there was an envelope on the door with our name. Inside was a room key and a note saying they weren't doing breakfast and made a small adjustment to the price charged. The adjustment didn't even cover breakfast at a fast food restaurant. Very deceptive advertising. Avoid. There are lots of other B&B's and inns in the area.

I'll echo all the positive reviews, though I did read the negative, (don't let them put you off.) Our Custom's House Inn room was clean (not a speck of dust or grit on the lovely hardwood floors), warm for the cool time of year, roomy, including its spacious, clean bathroom with large modern tub/shower. We arrived late in the evening and late in the tourist season to a note/key on the reception desk door -- terrific; a no-hassle check-in! A very quiet overnight stay (we may have been the only guests?), and breakfast as was described by the owner - basic. No surprises, a good value, comfortable sleep. We'd stay longer and stay again if the chance came.

Yelp
High ceiling, original brick wall, original crown moldings, updated bathroom with jetted tub, comfy bed, very quiet room on the first floor. A responsive and friendly inn keeper, Doug. A diamond in the rough. A return trip for sure.

Yelp
Big rooms with hard wood floors, nice views on the water side, cable TV, high speed internet and a refrigerator/microwave area. Breakfast is included. It is toast, cereal and fruit. The location is very quiet and right at the end of the downtown walkway. Stay here if you are looking for a small motel feel as opposed to warm bed-and-breakfast-y feel with inn keepers that want to chat and give recommendations. The inn keeper Doug is a friendly guy but is not around much.

Yelp
We stayed overnight at this beautiful Inn this past weekend. Love the look of hardwood floors and railings. Very clean, spacious room with all you need to have a great place to come to for a night or longer. Would recommend staying at this wonderful old building if you want a quiet, pleasant place with free conational breakfast like we had. If we ever have to come to back we certainly will be coming here to stay again. Thank you for a wonderful stay at your amazing place. Leslie Anne V. Halifax. Nova Scotia.

Yelp
We've stayed at the Custom's House five times so it must be good. Spacious rooms, some with wee galleys, all with a mini-fridge. Great location at the edge of the waterfront "stroll". Very quiet, even during Lobster Fest when the Bill Lynch rides are right next door. Breakfast is simple--toast, cereal and fruit--and the coffee is good. Doug--your innkeeper--is a hoot. Free WiFi & cable.

Yelp
Very quiet location. CLEAN. Nice bathroom and very large room. Free wifi. The innkeeper was polite and helpful and not at all overbearing. Comfortable bed. Lots of areas to put your clothes. The windows are huge, so it is very light and airy. Also has a microwave, frig and a little stove if needed. A great place to stay.
