Literally my favourite cafe in Wellington. Lovely staff, beautiful spot where you can either share the big table, get a corner seat or the comfy couch at the back. Wifi available. Their coffee is always on point, and their toasts are a treat. I’m a huge fan of their avocado toast, egg toast and love their cold brew with naughty milk on warmer days. Finish off with a Portuguese tart 🤤

On my first trip to New Zealand in July 2023, I asked someone at the Spark Store while getting my E-SIM for some good coffee recs (I'm from Melbourne, bit of a snob when it comes to coffee!) Among the list of favourites, Customs was the most highly recommended. Wasn't hard to understand why when I went the next morning for coffee and a pastry. Ever since, I've gone every time I've been in the city (multiple visits over 3 trips) on most days I've had a chance! Service is friendly, there's a great little range for light food (pastries, muffins, donuts) and some other breakfast options like toast and eggs. And it is, so far, the best coffee I've found in the country on my well-rounded and vast Aotearoa travels. Even got a British lad I was travelling with (a non-coffee drinker) hooked. My favourite spot in the city, and will always come back.

Very popular spot. Excellent coffee, donuts and more and it’s Furry-People Friendly 🐶🐩🦮🐕‍🦺🐾 Staff is awesome and makes sure everyone is well taken care of and satisfied. Highly Recommended!

Best Coffee (consistently) in my opinion in Wellington. If you want a bite, the Toast is a must and depending on your tastebuds the topping choices of Banana w Caramelised butter/Egg Salad/Avo are all gangsta!

Google
Beautifully presented coffee and a nice outdoor area which was great on a sunny day. But if you’re not used to kiwi coffee, you might feel a bit out of place here. As a type 1 diabetic, I had asked for a sugar-free drink and ended up ordering a cappuccino. It unfortunately came with sweetened cocoa powder on top; the waiter did kindly replace it for one without the sugar coating. It was just the reply of ‘this is how we do coffee in NZ’ that made me feel a bit sad.

Way too popular. Because it's good. Great coffee, service, and banana toast (try it!)!

This is a fantastic cafe with excellent food and coffee. The long black was top quality, slightly short on the pour and full of flavour... yum! The avo on toast was great too. They have a range of little goodies to nibble on too, including their top shelf almond croissants. I love the atmosphere of this place too, the interior design is awesome, and it's popular... there's been people waiting outside at 730am waiting for the door to open the last two days - I've been there too 😄 This place is a keeper.

Great coffee. Wish the little Portuguese tart was warmed.

Yelp
The best coffee house in Wellington. That's how you do it. Amazing and professionally made.

Yelp
If you are after a clean and tidy look with a simple but quality filled menu then this is a great spot to check out. The fact that it's away from the major foot traffic of Cuba and Courtney - Customs shares its community block with other similar themed cafes (which I did not have the time or coffee space for unfortunately). I thought they had a great interior design and feel though it prob gets a bit cramp on busier days but also had a good amount of outdoor seating. Staff were very friendly and really attracted creative clientele (there's an art gallery next door and close to some performing arts schools). Would definitely go back for food but def a winner.

Yelp
As you know, Wellington is the coffee capital of New Zealand and lives up to its name! Customs is a wonderful coffee shop. It's small, cute, friendly, good coffee. Tables are quite small. Definitely more of a one-on-one socializing place instead of a "get work done" kinda coffee shop. I feel like they want you in and out within an hour or so.

Yelp
What a beautiful spot. Love when all the elements come together in the art of coffee. Engaging staff, beautiful coffee and great barista skills. A fun retro space for a coffee. We had a pour-over of a Rwandan coffee, fruity, chocolatey, served in tactile raw ceramic cups. I probably don't need to recommend it, since the place seems so popular, but definitely worth going if you are looking for a first class coffee experience in central Wellington.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Hands down. Sometimes things can go strangely awry with a soy flat white. There's some seriously talented baristas behind the machine at Customs with a keen knowledge of different blends. I tend to ask specifically what works well with soy and they gave me this super tasty origin blend with rich jammy flavours. Beans are available for home and I think I spied a few sandwiches for sale, but all you need from here is the coffee. It's that good.

Yelp
This is a great little place to stop in and get fantastic coffee. It has a lovely setting, gets good sunlight, in the summertime that pours into the whole place. They also have some outdoor seating. This was the most real coffee experience I've ever had and I was THRILLED to have found it. For fun, ask for their box of essence oil samples and test out your scent identifying skills to guess what each of the various vials are! You'll be surprised to see what some of the scents actually are :-) It was a fun little activity to do while I was visiting with my sister and her boyfriend.

Yelp
Well this was a find, just walking thru back streets. A beautiful feel and fresh air. Bunch of us wanted to eat and rest- we ended up laughing and trying all the new wine and great coffee.

Yelp
This is by far the best espresso I had in my visit to New Zealand. The coffeeshop is also well decorated and has a good selection of magazines and papers. Food is also very good. I particularly liked the labneh and avocado sandwich.

Yelp
First place I've tried in New Zealand (that would be 15+ coffee shops) that has the "right" temperature of milk. Mostly it's too hot, similar to the States. Nicely prepared flat white here and good beans as well.

Yelp
Magic coffee and always tasty. Very cool decor... apparently award winning! Funky, friendly and happy to right any wrongs (which has only occurred once in the few years I've been frequenting). Nice work!

Yelp
Probably the best and most serious coffee place in Wellington. A wide selection of of coffees and brewing types are available according to a whiteboard listing country and plantation names. I enjoyed a Costa Rican filter brew.

Yelp
Nice coffee and used to be the best, but the latte art today is not that good. Hope it will be better next time.
