The Magpie Makings of Amanda Brooks’s New Cotswolds Shop
"Six years ago, Amanda Brooks resigned as the fashion director of Barney’s New York to move to a farmhouse in the Cotswolds, and began to think about what to do next. She was doing a lot already—raising her young family while writing two memoirs in the garden shed—but as Brooks describes it, she started to feel restless. 'I’d learned to make jam, I’d been horse riding…but I felt like just living the country lifestyle wouldn’t be my future,' she said. When the elegant octogenarian owner of Brooks's local greengrocer mentioned that she was looking for a tenant to share the 16th-century retail space, 'things just started falling into place,' says Brooks. It took a year to negotiate the lease, and a further five months to renovate Cutter Brooks, which involved restoring the weathered oak beams in the ceiling and covering the walls with shell-pink plaster. While the paint dried, Brooks took to the road and filled suitcases with hand-painted crockery from Seville and feather-light Parisian lingerie. Though the inspiration for Cutter Brooks is English country life, the inventory is largely from continental Europe and the United States—a deliberate choice in order to offer British customers products they won’t find elsewhere."
Beautiful shop that puts one in the festive spirit. Bought a little stocking stuffer that was wrapped and put in a bag as if it were something much more. Went back a second time for some Christmas ornaments at 30% off. Good value. Pleasant browsing experience both times.

I visited here after waiting a long time to do so. The shop is one of the most beautiful independent shops I’ve visited in England. It has been so exquisitely curated. Kim who is based in the shop is the loveliest, most helpful lady and was such a joy to meet. I bought a beautiful dress in the sale which I love. Yes it is expensive, but the products are beautifully made and designed and of wonderful quality. I also just telephoned to query a product online and the lady on the phone was so helpful that she even tried the item on for me for help with size. Wonderful customer service, beautiful products and lovely people.

Love Cutter Brooks and their gorgeous selection of tableware & home goods. Adore their collection of beautiful items that you will not find elsewhere in the Cotswolds. While I’m not a big spender, the staff has always been exemplary, warm, welcoming, and accommodating. Time has always been taken, even with small items/purchases, to wrap up beautifully as a gift, for myself, or on occasion, someone else! They go the extra mile to make it all feel so special.

What a lovely shop! I’ve always wanted to visit Cutterbrooks and it didn’t disappoint. As you enter the shop, past the beautifully planted up storefront and walk into the sophisticated scents of their Astier de Villatte candles, you’re transported immediately into some kind of chic fairytale.
I couldn’t leave without the prettiest juice glasses you’ve ever seen and a pack of incense. The staff was so welcoming and helpful, like shopping with your bestie 😂

Beautifully presented shop, with some really unusual items. The table linen & accessories are really special. You expect to pay high prices for this level of quality. Nothing is mass produced, everything is handmade by artisans. The collection has been curated with much thought and love. A delightful visit & a complete contrast to all the mass produced options seen so frequently.

I went out of my way to visit this amazing shop. Amanda has incredible taste and sells beautifully made things. I honestly don't understand why people say things are expensive? The items are mostly hand made by artisans who love their work and put alot of energy into making them. Astier de Villette for example is unique and made in Paris. The prices are in accord with the items sold. The customer service is amazing. Keep up the great job!
