"Those of you who remember the romantic rowing scene from The Notebook, or the haunting swamp hideout for Revolutionary hero Francis Marion in Mel Gibson’s The Patriot, have already previewed this singular locale. Hollywood location scouts choose Cypress Gardens for its wildly picturesque blackwater swamp, but also for its well-managed accessibility. For $5, you can let a local guide do the paddling for you as he points out wildlife and historical trivia in a wonderfully thick southern accent. Or you can opt to paddle yourself; just follow the little white arrows that suggest a route around the vast bog. Don’t worry if your boat bounces off a cypress tree or two (it’s hard to steer clear of them all). Duck as you pass under two walking bridges, and keep your eyes out for seasonal birds, alligators, and turtles who have crawled out to sun themselves. Before or after you boat, you should walk at least part of the 3.5-miles of trails encircling the water. It’s beautiful any time of year—each month features different fascinations: camellia blooms and bald eagles in winter, azaleas and wild violets in spring, lily pads and booming frog choruses and droning cicadas in summer, rust-colored foliage and screech owls in fall, plus the egrets and otters." - Allston McCrady

"Let’s start big picture. What’s the vibe here?    Those of you who remember the romantic rowing scene from The Notebook , or the haunting swamp hideout for Revolutionary hero Francis Marion in Mel Gibson’s The Patriot , have already previewed this singular locale. Hollywood location scouts choose Cypress Gardens for its wildly picturesque blackwater swamp, but also for its well-managed accessibility. Vertical bald cypress and tupelo trees drip with lacy veils of Spanish moss, reflecting perfectly in the mirrored waters. Walking paths and blooming gardens skirt the knobby cypress knees. When the Kittredge family planted azaleas and camellias here a century ago, Mrs. Kittredge crafted her own perfumes using dwarf daphne blossoms. The 170-acre parcel is a 30-mile drive north of Charleston . Admission is only $10 (less for seniors and children), which grants you access to miles of trails, reptile exhibits, and a dreamy butterfly house. Any standout features or must-sees?      Most visitors come here to hop in a boat and paddle slowly through the wooded wetlands. For $5, you can let a local guide do the paddling for you as he points out wildlife and historical trivia in a wonderfully thick southern accent. Or you can opt to paddle yourself. Just follow the little white arrows that suggest a route around the vast bog. Don’t worry if your boat bounces off a cypress tree or two (it’s hard to steer clear of them all). Duck as you pass under two walking bridges, and keep your eyes out for seasonal birds, alligators, and turtles who have crawled out to sun themselves. Best of all, there’s no hurry, so if you find a dazzling spot or a beautiful egret to photograph, just pause the boat, drift a little, and take it all in. Was it easy to get around? Before or after you boat, you should walk at least part of the 3.5-miles of trails encircling the water. It’s beautiful any time of year—each month features different fascinations: camellia blooms and bald eagles in winter, azaleas and wild violets in spring, lily pads and booming frog choruses and droning cicadas in summer, rust-colored foliage and screech owls in fall, egrets and otters, and on and on. That’s why so many locals make Cypress Gardens their regular walking spot. Late March and April is a peak time to visit, for blooming dogwoods and tulip trees, frisky hummingbirds, and all the migratory Monarchs fluttering around the “Butterfly House.” Walking paths are smooth and well-maintained, with benches and gazebos here and there, and clear signage to keep you from getting lost. All said and done, what—and who—is this best for? Bring your camera. If possible, go early or late to avoid the crowds and catch the good light. Cypress Gardens is many things to many people, a photographer’s dream, and a romantic place, too (I’ve seen couples giggling as they recreate The Notebook scene, or strolling through the gardens hand in hand). It’s family-friendly, especially for children who want to visit the on-site Swamparium, a small aquarium housing spooky giant catfish and exotic long nose gars, plus well-fed snakes to make you shudder (behind glass, of course). Most of all, it’s for nature lovers who seek the peculiar mystique of a blackwater cypress bog and all that thrives in its ecosystem." - Allston McCrady

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed a Sunday afternoon out here! Entry was $10/person. They have special rates on certain days for Berkeley county residents. There's a self-guided boat tour included in the price, guided tour may be extra, not sure. Staff at the boat docks were friendly and helpful! They also have animal exhibits with different reptiles and birds and a beautiful peacock. The parrot said hello once haha. There is an exhibit with a massive gator in it as well! Playground for the kids beside a picnic area with ceiling fans. Nice place for a date or with family/friends. I would definitely return!

Marie S.

Yelp
4.5 stars A wonderful way to spend a morning. They gave us both the $6.50 rate (with my dad having the military ID). Unfortunately, it wasn't too quiet with groups of children having just arrived for a field trip. They had parrots, inside "swamparium", canoes that you could ride in (free, although there was a bit of a wait as this was where the boat scene in the Notebook was filmed), and trails to walk. Flowers were in bloom and the landscape was beautiful with park benches and gazebos. Watch out for gators 2024 #11

Yelp
I still love Cypress Gardens. I found more trails this time and saw a 10-foot alligator! It was far away ao my dog was safe:) Unfortunately, they will stop allowing dogs soon. This is a beautiful area and it is amazing. A great place for some exercise and relaxation.

April C.

Yelp
It is a very cool place to visit if you are a fan of the movie The Notebook, or are a fan of alligators. The entry fee is very reasonable and then you are free to wander the buildings and trails. The butterfly house is fantastic and beautiful. The building with creatures was very cool too... we saw some nice large alligators too. The trails around the swamp were beautiful and the boating was also awesome!

Renee T.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, a must experience if visiting Charleston SC. It's $10 each person entry but it includes hiking, butterfly room, and paddling around the black water swamp. If you have seen The Notebook then this is a must 45 minute paddle through beautiful landscape and views. After the boat ride we walked the loop and loved every bit of it. Highly recommended

Yelp
We came on a hot summer day. Some say, don't come when it's 95 degrees (F). But given the option of coming when it's hot and not coming, I'm going to pick sweating every time. The gift shop here is small, but it does have AC. I think that's your only AC option in the park. We had a good time. The favorite was taking a boat ride, powered by oars, through the black cypress waters - the same waters shown in the movie " The Notebook"

courtlin l.

Yelp
This place is absolutely wonderful! It is just gorgeous. They have a boat ride through the swamps but sadly we got there too late so we hiked the trails instead. They had a "swamparium", a history room, a butterfly garden, alligators, birds, and more. They have some lovely gazebos and all kinds of sights to see.

Candace L.

Yelp
"If you're a bird, I'm a bird" Ok! I had to say it, and this review isn't really about birds but it is about The Notebook and Cypress Gardens. A literal dream! The birds were trained here for the movie but obviously no longer here after migration and to my knowledge not native to the area. I'll admit I love a good swamp experience. Alligators, insects, snakes, animals, boats, row boats, you name it. I'm a big fan of checking these places out if we have the chance. If we're somewhere where we can take in a swamp, I'm all about it. I knew we'd be in the area, and while my definition of area may be a bit different than most peoples I'm a firm believer in exploring and making the most of wherever you are when you're there. We were going to be in Columbia, so I knew Charleston was a given and that's when I remembered that Cypress Gardens was also near by'ish. I'd planned our day with visiting Cypress Gardens first, because who doesn't want to come row around in a swamp in 85 degrees before strolling around Charleston ;) not me! I won't be making the US Olympic rowing team anytime soon, let's just say that but I LOVED having the chance to be here. If you're a fan of the Notebook or any of the other movies filmed here it's a super fun spot to come and enjoy. We rowed around the swamp, then walked around the gardens (not much was in bloom in May) but it's still a very lovely experience. We didn't actually see any alligators but we did see several snakes. I'd highly recommend a visit. It obviously screams "date" spot but since I'm single and not dating I wasn't going to let that stop me, let's get romantic with my bestie, Mom and my son's girlfriend. It's still a totally fun experience and an absolute not to be missed if you find yourself anywhere near by this area. I'm not certain what the entry was, I paid at the gate. Maybe $36... for the 4 of us, since I'm catching a break with my Mom being Senior now. I was so elated to know I'd made it here to finally view this place in person. I'm not a big fan of movies/TV or anything that requires sitting still for long periods of time and paying attention, I'd rather be active but this is definitely a place I'd always wanted to experience. Of course, because it's an activity! Great date spot for anyone you'd like to bring. Wear a hat/sunscreen and bring water! We forgot the bug repellent but I didn't get a single insect bite here. PRO TIP: wearing espadrilles may not be the best foot wear choice, pair of flats or closed toe may be a better idea ;) me running from snakes in heels is a sport I wasn't aware I'm good at. Magical.

Yelp
Being raised in Berkeley County , Cypress Gardens has always taken center stage growing up whether it be from field trips , high school club events , prom or family events . Cypress Gardens has always been there to host events and support the community. I have seen it grow and change from when I was a kid and although I'm sad some aspects are no longer there (like the alligator pit) I am grateful this special place has overcome obstacles to continue to thrive today. Our most recent visit was to the Halloween event that featured a haunted swamp canoe ride and haunted trail and house . While the props and actors were cheesy , we really enjoyed the event and supporting the park . We liked the storyteller , Bruce Orr and also enjoyed the vendors . There is plenty of parking and Cypress Gardens often offers free admission to Berkeley County residents on special dates (call to check when the dates are) . This place is a gem and the Lowcountry is so fortunate to have them !

Misty R.

Yelp
It's such a cool place to visit. My sister and I loved it. Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe this place. We took the guided boat tour and enjoyed it very much. Nice walking trail around the water. Butterfly house, birds, and reptile display. It's worth a stop in. I highly recommend checking it out.

Ashley L.

Yelp
Cypress Gardens is an absolute dream. A hidden Gem located in Moncks Corner, it's filled with serene views and breathtaking wildlife along with a friendly staff. The gorgeous grounds were part of the filming for "The Notebook" and my husband and I really felt like we got to live our own version of the boat scene. It's so peaceful out on the water even with the gator population. They are majestic creatures and they were basking in the sun as we rode by. We also got to stop in to the butterfly room and the aquarium to see some other animals. The cherry on top of this whole trip is that this experience can be had for a low cost. Just pay a modest entry fee and the entire site is yours. The have great parking, a playground for littles and the bathrooms are very clean. We will definitely come back again before the year is out.

Glennda B.

Yelp
What is not to love? History, nostalgia, nature all wrapped in one beautiful place. If I could give any suggestions. it would be to find extra boats and personnel for the canoe rides.

Cecilia P.

Yelp
I've lived in Charleston for a few years and love taking visiting friends and family to all the awesome Lowcountry sites. We finally made it over to Cypress Gardens, and it will forever hold a place on my "48 hours in Charleston" itinerary. You need to go, especially in the colder months! It's a ways out there, but a beautiful drive. It's $10 an adult to get in, which is extremely affordable compared to other, similar tourist spots around Charleston. All of the employees were kind, informative, and funny! There is plenty of parking and not too much walking required. The row boat trip is included in the entrance fee. There is also a "swamparium", with some massive gators fenced in near by. It would be a great trip with kids!

Beverly M.

Yelp
Our family really enjoyed the visit to Cypress Gardens this week. We toured the butterfly house and the swamparium. Then we took a self-guided boat ride of the swamp. It was just like the boat ride in the Notebook movie with Noah and Allie! It was a great experience unlike any other. Plan to visit for at least three hours to see everything (maybe longer depending on the wait for a boat)!

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Wonderful local aquarium and swamp for both adults and children. The walking trails are beautiful and stroller friendly! They offer a free Saturday for Berkeley county residents, too. The whole space is just a wonder, regardless of how old you are. They are limited on the amount of boats they have for rowing through the swamp so I'd advise showing up early or during a slow period if that's the main thing you're excited for!

Trena S.

Yelp
Cypress gardens is definitely a gem of South Carolina. If you go and want to take the boat ride not only to avoid the line but also to avoid the heat. When we got there it was 8:58 and they had not opened the gates yet but there was a line of cars. Luckily we did not have to wait but by the time we were leaving the gardens the line was at least 2 hours long. The boat ride was serene but it definitely is a workout so be prepared for that. We also enjoyed the butterfly garden and the little coi fish pond they had. We had a great time looking at all the birds especially the peacocks.

Barrie P.

Yelp
We stopped by on our way to Charleston. The Gardens are beautiful. My son loved the playground and seeing the animals. We missed the boat tour but we plan to take it in the future. They said to get there early to get a guided tour. We also enjoyed the butterfly house.

Caden M.

Yelp
Went here with my family and the park is absolutely stunning! Upon arrival, you are able to start your adventure off on a beautiful self done boat tour through a swap area for no cost! And fun fact: scenes from the classic hit movie and book "The Notebook" were filmed and you can even be where the actors were! After your personal tour, you can get out in nature and walk along the stunning paths that run throughout the park. Then, you can finish your journey with a stop at the gift shop where they offer tons of different trinkets and souvenirs. This is truly a must see place to go to on your vacation to South Carolina. Recommendation: I would recommend going sometime in the spring to avoid the summer heat!

Nicole B.

Yelp
Big bang for your buck! This is a very special place. The swamp was so beautiful and peaceful--the water was like glass. It was my favorite thing there. We even got to see a gator swimming, turtles, and an egret. Took a walk around the swamp and saw a couple more juvenile gators. I'd visit again in a heartbeat. We spent nearly three hours there.

Opal D.

Yelp
Our family enjoyed the private boat swamp tour. The line was awfully long... with young kids that is rough and I would've preferred an appointment system. There is a good sized playground with vending machines which helps. The staff were all absolutely wonderful. Would come again and 100% recommend to locals.

Erika W.

Yelp
We had family come to town and decided to finally venture out to Cypress Gardens. You pay for admission at the entrance and parking is free. We arrived around 9:30 am and there were not many cars in the lot. We first headed over to the bird exhibit. They have some beautiful birds here. Next was the butterfly house. A previous review, a month ago, mentioned that there weren't many butterflies but we saw a lot. They also have a breeding program so we saw caterpillars crawling around on plants and butterflies that had just emerged from their chrysalises. Very cool! Loved this exhibit. We then headed over to the Swamparium. They have some huge snakes, turtles, fish, a baby gator and more. The kids loved looking at everything. Next up was the boat ride!! We had nine in our group so we had to wait a little bit for an available self guided boat. Anyone under 16 has to wear a life preserver, which is great, but I didn't see them spraying them down after use. It was so hot out and everyone was sweating so kinda gross. Maybe I just missed them doing it though?? Anyone know for sure if they do or do not sanitize after each use? We were just told to put them back in the same place we picked them up at. Anyway. The boat ride was fun and I was surprised that there weren't any mosquitoes attacking us. The two in our group paddling the boat probably didn't enjoy it as much since it was so hot. They were both pretty tired after so if you don't want to put in the work I'd definitely recommend signing up for the guided tour or doing the boats when it's not 91 degrees out. They have some nights where they do torch lit rides which would be super cool. Check their website or Facebook for event dates. After the boat ride, we let the kids play at the playground for a little bit before heading out. I will definitely be back when it's cooler bc I didn't even walk the trails so I'd love to do that and do the boat again with other family members. Great experience!!

Catherine M.

Yelp
This is a little bit outside of Charleston and I saw this place on a TikTok. It was so cool and I would highly recommend. The gardens are very big and have a lot of trails you can walk around. It's $10/ person to enter the park. You can definitely spend some time here. There is a boat tour though the swamp. You can pay $5 for the guided tour. There are also a limited boats for a self guided our, which is free. Our tour guide Dickey was great! I was glad we did the guided tour, as we are not from the area. He gave us a lot of information about how the swamp was created and about the different animals and plants that live in the swamp. The tour was about an hour. We saw an alligator and several birds. They also have a small aquarium on the property as well. While it was a small aquarium, the animals inside were not small. It featured a 50 pound catfish and a huge cobra snake. The eels inside were my favorite.

SK K.

Yelp
Cypress gardens is a great place to visit for any age. The entry price is low enough that a young family can spend the day and not break the bank. We packed a lunch & had a terrific time walking the trails, riding the flat bottom boats & relaxing.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Will always be one of my favorite places to just walk the trail and enjoy the beauty or pack a lunch and take a boat ride

Edna S.

Yelp
Beautiful, so beautiful! We went here for vacation to visit our relatives and went to Cyprus gardens for fun! It was so beautiful it looked like a fantasy world! It was fun seeing crocodiles and gross seeing a beheaded fish, but it was the best trip ever in the perfect weather! I also loved the butterfly gardens, even though I am a bit scared of butterflies! 100% recommended! The BEST place for tourists!!

Karolynne M.

Yelp
We decided to get tickets for the self-guided boat tour to try and see some gators but we were instead blown away by the beauty of this place! It was never a bucket list item for me to rowboat through a swamp but now it should be for everyone! My only issue was rowing under one of the bridges (not the one pictured). The bridge was very short and we had to duck really low to avoid hitting our heads but it was all part of the experience and not a tricky maneuver to manage. Tickets are only $10 a person and I recommend coming earlier in the day so you won't have to wait long for a boat as there are only about 8 boats they have in rotation for you to use for the self-guided tour.

Brenna K.

Yelp
This was such an amazing experience especially if you are a notebook fan! We came here for my bachelorette trip weekend and we all loved it! We got here right when they opened and had no issues getting a boat. When we were finishing it was starting to get crowded so I would recommend going early! We did see a couple gators but they weren't interested in the boats. The staff were all so friendly.

Brandy G.

Yelp
On a visit back home to the South Carolina Lowcountry, I decided to spend a few hours at Cypress Gardens enjoying the scenery. It was my first time visiting since I was in high school (so about 11 years in between visits) and it was just as magical and serene today as it was then. There have definitely been some changes (I miss the gator boardwalk/pits!) but the breathtaking beauty of the black cypress swamps still remained. Entry to the site is extremely reasonable ($10 for adults) and it's a great place to spend a few hours. Make sure to visit the Butterfly House to enjoy the magic of butterflies native to SC floating in the air all around you as well as stop in for a visit to the small aquarium on site for an up close look at native reptiles and amphibians (and a few out-of-state critters as well.) PRO TIP - if you're in to pressing those souvenir pennies -there's a penny pressing machine located inside the aquarium. The true showstopper of Cypress Gardens is heading out in a canoe to get up close and personal with the swamp itself. If you want to row yourself, there's no additional fee but the option to go with a guide for a small fee is possible. My friends and I opted to do the solo route. It's very easy to navigate the swamp even for novice rowers and can be done in less than an hour. (and if you fall in - don't worry - the water in the areas you row only gets to about 4 feet so you can just stand up) In addition to the canoes and attractions, there are several trails that you can walk to further explore the swamp and for those with little ones - a pretty fun playground (judging from all the squeals and laughter heard coming from the area.) The next time you're in the SC Lowcountry, stop in to spend a few hours at this underrated gem.

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
My out of town friends and I visited and were so excited to row our boats in the cypress swampy gardens. There is a water path to follow. Instagram worthy views around every corner. Calm waters (with sneaky gators). You will have to go with another person if you want a ride (hard to row by yourself) or they have guided rides! There are several trails that we didn't get to do due to time but I can't wait to go back. The butterfly greenhouse was a delight.

M L.

Yelp
An amazing experience, definitely pay $5 per person for the guided tour (honestly don't know why they charge so little because it's so awesome). Rick aka the Cowboy aka the Legend took us on such an unforgettable guided tour - his love and passion and knowledge of the area is so impressive. He only works Wednesdays through Saturdays so if you're lucky you will get a tour with him! We saw gators and turtles and he provided so much tidbits about the area :)

Kayla H.

Yelp
What an amazing day!! You could easily spend 2+ hours exploring. We chose to do solo boat rides but you can choose to have a tour guide. So beautiful!! We saw a few baby alligators which was super neat. Most of the swamp was shaded and the bugs weren't bad at all! There is also a butterfly garden and a reptile exhibit. Admission was only $10 or $6.50 with a military discount. Definitely worth it!!

Byron D.

Yelp
Excellent place to spend a day, take a leisure walk. Show the kids history and wildlife!

Andrew W.

Yelp
My wife is a huge fan of the movie The Notebook. Although I haven't seen the movie "yet", I found out that one of the iconic scenes was filmed at Cypress Gardens, so I decided to surprise her and go for a visit. We went on a weekday morning and, thankfully, it wasn't crowded. The admission fee with a military ID was only $6.50, which is nothing for how much they offer and the great experience you'll have! One of the workers greeted us before we started on the first trail and was extremely friendly. He shared some behind-the-scenes stuff with us from the movie and pointed us in the direction(s) of where the filming took place. We enjoyed the walking/hiking paths which overlook the water and gardens. The original dikes from the rice-growing era and the butterfly gardens were beautiful. We saw many different butterflies, birds and even a friendly little gecko. The self-guided boat tour was the highlight of our visit. It was a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the world, and it was amazing to see several gators up close in their natural habitat. I recommend checking out Cypress Gardens! It's a great place for couples, families and even solo trips if you need some R&R.

Jarrett F.

Yelp
My wife and I love going to Cypress Gardens. It's a great getaway from the world, and to be in nature.

Natalie H.

Yelp
This place was the highlight of our trip. It was worth every penny to row across the water. It was honestly like a dream and the perfect way to spend our 5 year anniversary. It's 1000000% worth the 40 minute drive outside the city.

Chrissy F.

Yelp
What a natural wonder the Cypress Gardens is! I went back in October and was so spooktacularly surprised by the lovely decorations and touches around the grounds!! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays so this really stood out for me. The walking trails are doable -- just be mindful of critters and mosquitos. There's a playground for kiddos, a butterfly garden, a reptile exhibit, and gators to say hi to! I liked the bridges and gazebo and feeling timeless when amongst the ancient bald cypress trees. A reminder to stay present in the moment, no day like today. Very grateful for this nature spot!

Lindsay G.

Yelp
Such a beautiful spot to visit right out of Charleston! I took the boat tour and throughly enjoyed it. Yes, it's the location where the boat scene from The Notebook was filmed in 2002-2003. While Ryan Gosling was nowhere to be found on my trip, it's still a place that I would highly suggest visiting.

John B.

Yelp
It certainly lives up to the name. Massive trees with knobby knees are all about at this park, which also offers bits of history and a menagerie. The option was available to row a boat through the main body of water, which looked appealing but which I did not do, mainly because walking the length of the park took longer than I thought it would, over an hour at a brisk pace. I kept the pace up not so much because the views weren't nice, but because I'd forgotten my bug repellent. Miraculously, I only picked up a couple of bites. Wildlife also included a small alligator, a befuddled turtle, and a spider that looked like the sort I'm used to seeing in Australia: large, angry-looking, and building a web across the footpath. You definitely want to keep your eyes out around here. The aesthetic of the place was nice; I'm not sure that it beats being closer to the shore on one of the barrier islands, but it is a good way to access some nature without needing to go too far off the beaten path.

Nicole G.

Yelp
Loved it. Perfect afternoon with my husband and kids. The swamp boats were picturesque and everyone working for the gardens were kind and caring.

J E.

Yelp
While visiting Charleston we wanted to break up the stay in downtown so we took a trip here for a couple of hours. This is a really nice place to visit, but plan on walking! Take in all the beauty of the ponds, boggy marsh, wildlife and foliage. It's very inexpensive, only $10 per person (and they offer discounts to military and 1st Responders). Highly recommended!

Karen C.

Yelp
What a beautiful place to visit. The boat ride was amazing. You can take 45 minutes out there! My friends and family were enthralled with the photos. My son thought it was so fun. In addition to the boats they have a swamparium, butterfly house and a big playground. My husband loved the walking trails. We saw some baby alligators. They take safety seriously here so they will block off the areas with mommy gators. So worth the trip. Another review called it a hidden gem. It certainly is.

Yelp
The highlight of our four-day vacation to Charleston was Cypress Gardens, which is 30 minutes from town. We'd been some years ago, but the place was unrecognizable in that it has completely changed. The aspect we really enjoyed was the self guided boat tour in the swamp (no extra cost, by the way). At first, we were bumping into trees, but soon figured out how to propel the little row boat. The white lotuses and Huckleberry Finn-like ambience was a knockout. On our walk around the paths, a baby alligator crossed right in front of us and later we spotted a giant gator chilling in the water. This would be a five-star attraction except for the Swamparium, where melancholy reptiles, like a giant Argentinian anaconda are trapped in not nearly large enough terrariums. If you must display snakes for human gratification (not that I'm for that at all), at least give them ample space to do the snaky stuff they like to do.

Yelp
I've been to Charleston many times and seen many attractions and I can't believe it's taken me this long to visit this place! We are celebrating our 18 year anniversary and since we love The Notebook so much, this was a no brainer. My husband reserved tickets online a few weeks ago but we accidentally left them at home. The lady at the ticket booth was very helpful with getting us in. We got there early because the main thing we wanted to do was the row boats. We were surprised and happy when we found out that the row boats are free if you want to row yourself. If you do a guided tour it's only $5 per person which is very reasonable. It took us about 40 minutes to finish and it was getting ridiculously hot. We got bottled water in the gift shop for only $1 and they had snacks and packaged ice cream. We walked around the grounds for a little while before escaping the heat. My suggestion would be to visit in the spring or fall and pack a picnic. There is a nice playground too. Stop by the bird cages too...the white one talks!

Yelp
This place doesn't get enough reviews it's amazing. There is a reptile house where you can see all the different kinds of snakes (GIANT ANACONDA) native and non-native species. They also have two giant alligators in double fenced spaced off areas where they lie in the grass. The butterfly garden has a koi pond and all the kinds of life cycles of butterflies, caterpillars in the plants and their chrysalises. The parrots and peacocks are a bit quiet most of the time but lovely to look at. The best part they're known for is their boat rides through the cypress forest swamp. They do a bunch of holiday events when you do a group guided tour and a self guided tour (self guided was more of a wait time max is probably 6 to a boat). There are gators in the water but they pose no threat they are actually super cool to see when they swim or surface.

Yelp
I really used to love coming here. But the staff is not very friendly anymore :/ Wanted to share that fun boat experience with my partner for the first time and wish they had just told us when we bought tickets that there was a long line for the boats. That's really why people come here anyways. So we paid $20 to stand in line and sweat just in the hopes of maybe catching one. Sad that such a beautiful place has turns into a bit of a rip off. Times are hard for people and it's wrong to take their money for nothing. Please do better, especially for the people who have supported you for years.

Yelp
Wow! Such a cool place. The property is so well maintained. I loved the animal exhibit. The butterfly house was a little lame and had very few butterflies but the other exhibit made up for it. We took a leisurely stroll around the swamp to check it out and then bought two tickets (5 a person$) in the gift shop for a guided tour in the swamp. They do sell out so id stop there when you arrive to buy your time slot, I think they're hourly. It's free to row yourself in a boat but then you don't get all the interesting info from the staff. I can tell the staff is passionate about the swamp! The scenery is so pretty! I didn't think it was as buggy as I thought it would be. We spent a few hours here, it was a good day. You could do more of the walking trails to explore more. Admission into cypress park is $10 a person and the parking is free, not a bad deal :)

Yelp
A hidden gem for sure! Came during our vacation and it was the highlight of the trip. The boat ride is an absolute must. Our tour guide was a young man who kept us entertained while educating us all things "swamp". The swamp- arium was fantastic! They have a crazy stuffed alligator on display, toads, gators, an anaconda that was huge, rattlers, water moccasins, several species of catfish of various sizes and a weird fish what we named "the missing link", a lung fish with leg appendages that needs to cup up for air. So wonderful a place like this exists. Very kid friendly and super clean restrooms to boot.,

Yelp
So thankful Cypress Gardens was able to reinstate their facilities! This has been a staple since I moved here in the mid 80's. It's so beautiful it's no wonder the movies Patriot and The Notebook filmed on this property. Renting the boats is always something that gives you new things to look at and appreciate. Ample parking is also a plus. But again, this is someplace I enjoy bringing out of state visitors and just going to with my now adult daughter who still loves the butterfly house. If you haven't been, it's a nice distraction from our everyday lives. Go and unwind, bring a picnic lunch and don't forget to find as many butterflies as you can.

Yelp
My husband and I had an hour to kill before we had to head to the airport and so we came here! We realized that 1 hour was NOT enough time to see everything. If you have more time than we did, this is a MUST see! Absolutely stunning and the boat was free! All in all, you all have to go here!

Yelp
I was dragged to Cypress Gardens and ended up having to be dragged out by the end of the day. I was really pleasantly surprised by this place. I'm not a fan of mosquitoes or The Notebook and Cypress Gardens means both things. So that's gives you a glimpse into my previsto feelings towards this place. And then I actually went there...and I was so ready to buy the tshirt and the mug and even one of those overpriced commemorative bricks. The prices for admission are really reasonable like a little too reasonable, which further lowered my initial expectations. After parking we went straight towards the included-in-the-admission canoe ride in the blackwater swamp. We saw plenty of gators, some insanely close, some who may or may not have tried to court us, and some who looked to be on vacation themselves. It was a really cool experience to see them in their natural habitat. We also saw and heard lots of birds and some pretty cute adult and baby turtles. We really didn't want the canoe ride to end. My non-existent biceps got a real workout too. The butterfly house and Swamparium were so much fun and the animals all seem well-cared for. We even got a little history in the rice field and dikes and gravesites areas. I really really enjoyed this place and I highly recommend it to everyone. Oh and make sure you try out the Charleston Joggling Board by the canoes. Looks rickety but it's brilliant.
