Cypress Hills Cemetery

Cypress Hills Mausoleum in San Diego is a beautiful, and peaceful place to lie your loved one’s urn. It is surrounded by beautiful statues and stained glass. Axel did a great job helping us arrange the celebration of life and ceremony for my mom He put us ease in helping us make decisions. Sandra was amazing with details in assisting us with setting up my mom’s alter, flowers, videos, and seating. Sandra set the stage for our celebration and it all flowed very well. We are so joyful that we chose this place knowing my mom will rest peacefully here.

I got to finally go to my grandmother’s grave and visit some of my ancestors, including James McCune Smith my great great great grandfather. A little overgrown but not bad. I also went to Jackie Robinson’s grave and saw several others around the cemetery.

No bathroom, on a hill. My great , great grandfather is buried here. Kinda beautiful place. But some grave stones in the grounds has sinked into the earth, only partly visible. Some only a corner is left is visible. Still easy access.

Visiting my Loved one whom are buried here. Visiting my Mother's grave on which would had been her 91st birthday.

Unfortunately I had to move 3 hrs from where my loved one is buried.This is the second time I have come up on this situation. The bathrooms provided are disgusting to say the least. The first time, there was feces on the floor next to the toilet... A lot. The floor was wet and tissue was all over. Today the second time, there seems to be bodily fluid of the red kind on the toilet I ran again but after 3 hrs drive I had to try the men's bathroom and to my dismay it was just as filthy. Please management, do you even look in there? You have to do better than this , yes the public can be disgusting but if you cannot keep the bathrooms clean, I suggest you close them permanently.

I recently called Cypress Hills Cemetery to locate my loved one. The person that answered was absolutely awesome. She was very patient, understanding and caring. She gave me the information and said when I did come to visit they would give me a map and show me how to get there. I asked if I could ask for her when I do go, she said yes and that her name is Olga. A couple of weeks later I did visit the cemetery and found Olga working in the office. She remembered our conversation and gave me a map with the directions, she was very kind and offered her condolences for my loss. I was actually thinking I would be given the information and be on my own. However it was totally opposite, she was very helpful, knowledgeable, and her voice and tone was that of an Angel. She made what was for me a very difficult situation totally manageable. Thank you Olga for all your help, you're a very special person.

I called for the location on behalf my uncle who is buried there. He was in the USA Navy and died after WWII in 1946. The Lady was so kind to give me the information. Her name is Olga. Excellent customer service.

First off, this is not a happy place. It is a place of the afterlife where your loved ones is housed. To my family, what was important was the kindness of the Director and her staff's willingness to guide us through the whole plot purchasing process along with options provided. My mom passed away a few years back (f*ck cancer!) and we were not in the right headspace. We were first timers and really needed guidance and patience. Landscape, Upkeeps, Grounds are all clean. The staff are very nice. It can be quite hectic at times during traditional Chinese cultural visits like during Cheng Ming, which coincides with Easter. The staff keeps it going and are usually helpful. If you have the money, this location is best for any family living in the 5 borough. Otherwise, it's Jersey or Upstate NY. The only 2 issues I have with Cypress Hill is 1) we paid for perpetual care but often we see lots of weeds & trash around my moms' grave. So we end up cleaning it ourselves. 2) WHY is there ONLY 1 bathroom?!? It's horrible and that bathroom is quite gross... so you might want to hold your bladder... Good luck friends.

My family and I have been visiting CHC nearly yearly since 1990 when my grandmother passed away. The land has been consistently well cared for. They even have trash receptacles just in case. I normally bring a large jug of water because the water spigot is a bit of a walk from where my grandmother is buried. I'd also imagine that the spigot is shut off during winter to prevent water from freezing and damaging the pipes. Normally I go to Glendale Florist about a few blocks away from the cemetery for a bouquets of flowers and cemetery cones but there are many other similar businesses in the area too. For those who might be wondering why there are large evergreen bushes planted next to graves in the Asian section, it's a symbolic cultural ritual that a number of people cherish. I respect other people's beliefs but my family and I don't participate in this particular activity. I had to ask about the beliefs behind this practice since I was not knowledgeable and also wondering. It was explained to me that these evergreen bushes are connected to the thought of eternalness which is probably why these bushes aren't shaped or pruned either. The sections are well marked. I don't know how much a plot costs because a family member made these arrangements so contact CHC for answers to your questions.

The old bone yard... People are just dying to get in here - literally. Ok, so that may be in poor taste but it is a cemetery. Aside from the fact that there are no plots available, the place is interesting if only for the fact that on a recent visit there to pay some respects to my dearly departed, I was amused by the entrepreneur who was working the place with his hand-pushed ice-cream and ice cart. The guy was making a killing as it was hot day. At least he wasn't ringing the bells...

I buried my daughter here back in 2000. It's very clean. The workers are nice and respectful. There's not much to say it's a cemetery.

We buried both our parents here. Today We buried our 66 yo brother, next to them. The grounds are sprawling and well- kept. However- it is incredible and poor planning to have ONLY ONE STALL FOR men and one for women!!! Funeral ceremonies usually include many folks: we had approx 25 today. ONE toilet ?? And: the grounds might be nice , but NO TOILET PAPER in the women's room. Somehow, I guess the management thinks not many of the cemetery residents plan to ever use the bathroom, so why build more toilets? Not a welcome way to experience bereavement- standing on a long line in the hot mid day sun, and folks scrounging around for tissues to use.

This is my uncle's resting place. The area is beautiful. Open space and airy. Lots of worker around. accessible by public transportation--by bus or subway.

Insane in the membrane....Insane in the brain! This is the cemetery on the album cover for the rap group "Cypress Hill" Black Sunday album. I don't think there are any plots available. The section by the intersection of Pennsylvania Ave and Bushwick Ave where the Jackie Robinson Parkway starts us really old. As you get toward the Grand Central Parkway, there are newer sections.
