The Best Dog-friendly Hotels in the U.S.

"Late Hollywood icon and animal activist Doris Day was a co-owner of Northern California's Cyprus Inn, and she reportedly agreed to purchase the 1929 Spanish-Moroccan landmark only if it allowed dogs. Today, the Cyprus Inn offers blankets and bowls, a glamorous patio to hang out on, and an outdoor shower just for rinsing off those four sandy legs after a romp at the beach." - Travel + Leisure Editors

I chose this inn because of the historical connection to Doris Day and the pet-friendliness. But I found it to be an utterly lovely place to be. The room was very comfortable. The staff was super friendly. The ambience was so calm and lovely. Even the light was soft. We thoroughly enjoyed being there. It is possible we might not have been as comfortable if it had been hotter, as I didn't see any kind of air conditioning. But this was July and the temps generally stayed in the upper fifties/lower sixties, so it may not ever really be a problem.

A 10! Best location...love all the dogs, which is never an issue! (no fights or messes). I love the Doris Day movies playing! Staff is beyond helpful & friendly! Love the live music & cocktails! Location is perfect for easy access to the Beach, all the great Galleries & shopping, plus tons of dining options that are close! Go have a nightcap at Sade's Bar...just 300' away...they've been around for 99 years and Parker the owner is a very cool guy! Cypress Inn - a can't miss!

Staying at The Cypress Inn in Carmel feels like stepping into a storybook—one where your dog is not only welcome but treated like royalty. This charming boutique hotel, co-owned by the late Doris Day, blends timeless elegance with cozy, coastal comfort. Nestled in the heart of dreamy Carmel-by-the-Sea, it's just a short stroll to the beach, galleries, and cafes. It’s rare to find a place this beautiful and genuinely dog-friendly. We didn’t want to leave—and honestly, neither did our dog.

Everyone was so kind and happy and helpful! We loved beingy able to bring our pups into such a welcoming environment. Cute dogs everywhere!! Love the ambiance of the property and the courtyard spaces within the room areas. Thank you!

Google
A really lovely hotel with a central location that is also dog-friendly, the Cypress Inn in Carmel-by-the-Sea is a real gem. This historic hotel has smaller, cozy rooms, a great breakfast (including warm popovers, a nice bit of nostalgia), a lively bar and restaurant, and fantastic service. The bed was comfortable and linens were very comfortable. The dogs staying here were all well-behaved and it was neat to see so many of them making the trip with their owners. The only small drawback is the fact that parking can be a bit of a bother on a busy weekend, but that appears to be a town-wide struggle rather than something Cypress Inn can control. We hope to be back sometime when we have a little more time!

Google
Beautiful hotel in a perfect location, just a short walk to the beach and shops. The rooms are charming and cozy, and the jet tub was amazing after a day out. Loved everything about our stay.

My wife i and our beloved pooches have been staying at the Cypress Inn for 35 years. We visit about 3 x a year, and we always have a wonderful stay, it's a ritual at this point. Sure, some of the rooms are small , but you can't replicate the both upscale and intimately homey vibe. The people who visit are folks you will enjoy being around it's a communal dog loving atmosphere shared by all including the wonderful staff. Our Christmas holiday is not complete without an evening in what feels like a giant living room, huge fireplace burning, music playing, and people with their dogs everywhere, and we always have at least one meal at Terry's. I hope we will have 35 more visits..

Delightful atmosphere, like a step back in time. Staff was friendly and efficient. Terry's was very good and a great place to interact with other travelers. Music was good. Location is excellent, close to everything. Great experience!

Yelp
Terry's lounge was fantastic. We went there twice in one week for a glass of wine and appetizer between lunch and dinner. Our dog loved it. The service was attentive and friendly. We had the calamari along with glasses of chardonnay on our second visit (the first time we only had wine, which was tasty). The calamari was light, tender and well seasoned. We had been there many years ago (at least 15?) with our Golden retrievers. They loved it too. It was consistently good then and now.

Yelp
This is an update to my review of 2021. The Inn has maintained its ambiance and great service. We reserved the same room as our previous visit. I was able to reserve a parking space in their secure lot located on the next block by calling the morning of our check in. On this visit there must have been as many dogs as people. It appears to be the most pet friendly place to stay. Every dog we encountered was well behaved. We love the variety of live entertainment in the Living Room on most evenings.

Yelp
We got so lucky and got the last room available on New Year's Eve, a last-minute cancellation. Cannot recommend this hotel enough for any night but especially New Year's Eve! A hotel packed with our kinda people, dog lovers, dogs everywhere, a special place for people who love charming inns and dogs. Our boy Gerbert had the best time! Overfloweth with warmth, delicious breakfast included (eggs popovers oatmeal fruit sausage coffee), and four hours of music on New Year's Eve from a cabaret singer right in the living room. Celebrated at midnight and it was such a happy party. Everyone dancing and singing. So fun, hilarious, classy, unlike any place you've been. Even had a fireplace in our room. Can't rave about it enough. And then you get to wake up by the ocean! Thank you for such a special New Year's! 5 stars!!!!

Yelp
I recently stayed at this hotel white attending a wedding that took place in Salinas. My party actually reserved a large room on the first floor + the outdoor patio for the wedding reception. The hotel accommodated our guests almost perfectly. The hotel is clean, cozy and elegant. The customer service was spectacular. The hotel bar does a fantastic job with their breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. When making reservations for rooms, the restaurant patio and their gathering room, the hotel did a great job at making everything look amazing and they stayed organized the entire time. We booked everything months in advance and upon arrival we had absolutely no worries that our requests would be met. Cypress Inn will definitely be the hotel I use to stay at whenever I visit Carmel by the sea.

Yelp
I've been going to this iconic hotel for about 15 years. The bar tenders will go out of their way to make special drinks. One rainy winter night a cook went out of his way to accommodate a vegan. Sitting in the lounge, listening to music...lovely. Definately dog friendly. One criticism. currently the hummus is spicy hot! Please just make it "regular".

Lori D.

Yelp
The hotel has its charm. The room looked clean and smelled clean. We stayed in the standard room #109, the restrooms were right across from our room. It was noisy, with people chatting right outside our door, not mention the slamming of the toilet seat If we stay here again, we are going to pay extra attention to the room location prior. Although, the noise is inevitable because the windows are very old. We could hear dishes, employees talking ect right outside our room. It was also hot at night time with no AC. I want to add that the employees are friendly and attentive. Parking is an issue. Any parking close to the hotel has a 2hr limit. Unless you park it in the residential area which is further down the street. We stayed two nights and often went to check on it, nothing happened to it. After all, it's Carmel I would have given it 5 stars if I would sleep well without all the noise.

Yelp
Probably our most favorite spot to stay in Carmel. We have 2 doggos and one is a senior blind dog. The place is so accommodating for them. Not to mention their puppy hour and the fact that dogs are allowed practically everywhere. On and cherry on top is food at the restaurant there is amazing and included breakfast for the win!!!

Larry L.

Yelp
Been here many times. We really enjoy the live entertainment, especially performances by singer Debbie Davis. Terry's lounge serves excellent food and drinks. Our golden retriever also loves this place.

Yelp
We had a delightful stay! The staff is exceptional. Any request is cheerfully fulfilled. Everyone who works here seems to love being part of the hotel. Our room was small and cozy. But, except for the bed, which was beyond firm, was clean and nicely appointed. Breakfast is included and there is plenty to choose from--popovers, bagels, pastries, eggs, sausage, hot and cold cereals, yogurts, juices, coffee, tea, and lots more. There are stacks of various morning newspapers. Dogs are welcome in the rooms, the breakfast area, and the courtyard. The staff goes out of its way to accommodate pets and their people. There is a dog shower, but you need to ask about it and request dog towels. The key to having an incredible stay is asking the staff for what you need. You'll get it. Also, if you're used to chain cookie-cutter hotels with microwaves, mini-friges, and coffee makers in the room, you need to adjust your expectations. This is an elegant hotel where your needs will be met by asking the staff. Service is exceptional.

Yelp
Great place! We 4 people had dinner there and everyone had a great time. The food was good quality and it was great ambiance.

Yelp
This is our second time staying at Cypress Inn. We stayed in a standard room last time and opted to stay in the King Deluxe this time. Each room is a bit different as it is a boutique hotel. We stayed in 112 with a private entrance, loved that. There was a jetted bathtub that we did not put to use because there were ants. I did tell the front desk when we checked in and they had someone go clean it up but unfortunately the ants came right back. The bed was cleaned when we checked in but all the decorative pillows were still on the ground. There was still food in the fridge from the last guests as well. I still gave it 4 stars because we LOVE how dog friendly it is, staff were kind, and the location is great.

Yelp
Gracious and hospitable staff. Excellent service! The friendly people who are always ready to be helpful and to go beyond. We love it here. Stylish and quiet ambiance.

Yelp
Love Cypress inn! It has such an old school vibe to it. We stayed in the Tower suite, which was super cool for us but probably not great for anyone older because of the two flights of stairs to the bedroom. Its such a dog friendly hotel which we absolutely love. It was a bit weird when the reservation desk guy told us we should have been charged $30 a night for our pup. Who is actually a service dog, but we didn't get a chance to explain this. Overall its such a special place. A must visit in Carmel!

Yelp
I was really disappointed with the state that this hotel was in. The employees were all kind and I can give them that. The hotel however was rundown and didnt live up to the price of the suite we got. This used to be a beautiful hotel. It's now rundown, ridden hard and pit away wet. In addition the finishes and furniture were cheap. From the plastic patio chairs to the piecemeal furniture and finishes in the rooms, it was all just meh. This hotel needs help desperately from a designer.

Yelp
Cypress Inn in Carmel, perhaps most known for being co-owned by Doris Day for 30 years. It feels British, it's old and classic, but best feature -- dog friendly. They are everywhere. * Location (5/5): It's not on the beach, but it's still perfect. 1 block away from wonderful restaurants and shops on Ocean Ave, and about 6 short blocks walk to the beach. Because it's not on Ocean, it has less foot traffic. * The rooms (3.5/5): well, it's a tale of 2 rooms. The older feels 50+ years old (bathrooms, A/C...meh), but there's newer rooms made to resemble the same design, but better bathrooms and tub. I tried both, and prefer the new for sure. It also featured a ceiling fan, which was welcomed. Bed/bedding was fine. * Breakfast buffet (4/5): a few hot items (eggs, bacon or sausage, potatoes), assorted pastries, bagels, yogurt. The "pop overs" are like an oversized out-of-control roll in a muffin-liner, warm and semi-sweet...delicious with butter! * Terry's Lounge (n/a): didn't eat here, but everyone and every table for 3 days seemed to love it. Burger, fish, pasta, chicken, short ribs, steaks. Looked really good! * Service (4/5): Kind of quiet and reserved, but when you need them, they come thru. We had a couple of problems with our first room, and they offered to move us to another, which we accepted, for our last night. * Dog-Friendly (5/5): As mentioned, nearly every person has a dog here. So did we, and we had no issues. The rooms are spotless and have tiled floors, perfect for mishaps if they occur. * Parking (2/5): Street parking 8a-6p is for 2 hours. 1.5 blocks down, Eighth Street, is unmonitored all-day parking. In summary, I liked it...but not loved. If I had the pooch, I would absolutely stay here again. If not, I'd like to think there's other options.

Yelp
What's happened to a great local favorite? Food prices have almost doubled in last two months. Servings are smaller, prices are bigger, and a great old favorite is not so favorite any more. Perhaps tourists will keep it going for awhile, but doubt they will want to return. Please, please new management, rethink what decisions you've made. An old local that misses the old Cypress Inn.

Yelp
Amazing little hotel in downtown Carmel. Absolutely love the staff. So accommodating to every need you have. Breakfast is included. They have eggs, sausage, yogurt, fruit and muffins. Juice and coffee as well. Rooms are very small, but clean and comfortable. It's definitely a boutique style hotel. Terry's lounge is a great place to get a cocktail and appetizer. Only complaint is that the garbage trucks and deliveries start at 6 am so sleeping in is not an option.

Yelp
Beautiful property....if you enjoy animals this place is for you. Great food drink options and a nice breakfast in morning. The only drawback was our room was located above a service area and somewhat nosier than needed. The hotel staff was very helpful, which is a great change of pace.

Tom Eberhardt ..

Yelp
Great Classic Hotel, pet friendly and a terrific location. We have been coming to this Inn for years with our dog. I left a coat in my room after we checked out. A week later the hotel contacted me and the made arrangements to have it shipped to me. I didn't even realize I had lost the coat. Excellent customer service at every level by their staff. They make you feel like you are at home. There are a lot of poor quality, high priced hotels in this area that take advantage of tourists. Avoid the disappointments and stay away from the tourist traps, book your room at the Cypress Inn in advance for relaxing experience.

Elana S.

Yelp
We loved our stay here and Winnie our Jack Russell can't wait to go back. Great location and staff. We especially loved all the cool people and their dogs staying there.

Yelp
What an absolute treat to be able to stay here. Room 117 was a dream. Totally quiet, with AC, a mini fridge and an entrance directly out to the street. Bedding and bed is comfy and the robes are super soft. When we come back to Carmel, we will definitely come back. No parking was available with the hotel, but parking just down the street was never a problem.

Yelp
This is more a place marker for me than an actual review. I didn't get enough time to spend here as I perused this tiny boutique hotel whilst waiting for friends to meet up. If there's nothing more to say though is this hotel is filled with personality. Formerly co-owned by Doris Day her exploits can be seen through many of the large movie posters she's starred in to her films being played on multiple televisions at the bar. There is a touch of that old Hollywood style in everything from the cushions to the wallpaper. The courtyard seemed small but a delightful place to hang around. The lobby/lounge also felt like a snap to a 1950s Hollywood set. I asked about the place to one of the bellman and he's the one that gave me some history of the place as I shared above. I only took a sneak peek at the rooms but it looked like it was made back in the earlier half of the 20th century. The rooms looked more like guest rooms you would find at the homes of the rich and the famous from that time era than the modern styling of most hotels. It is quaint but has personality which is what you look for from a boutique hotel. I don't have much to say aside from first impressions and a brief walk around but if you are in Carmel-by-the-Sea and want to enjoy the eclectic nature of this coastal town Cypress Inn might add to your vacation story more than take away.

Yelp
This is our third year spending new years here with our friends (who also had rooms). An amazing experience, especially with the music of Debbie Davis and the warm reception of so many well behaved dogs. If you are dog lovers, this is your place hands, down. Dogs can join at a delicious breakfast buffet and in the lounge for New years. If you are not a dog lover, you might feel a bit out of place. Cats allowed too though! Strengths: Central location, amazing service, great entertainment, super dog friendly, excellent food, very fair value. Cons: Rooms getting to be a bit aged which happens with fine older hotels (but it is still very clean). If you are not a dog lover, you might be overwhelmed (or maybe inspired to get a dog?). I would have rated a 4.5 but upped to a 5 as we love our overall experience and that is what matters most to me.

Yelp
Charming hotel right in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea, built in the 20's and once co-owned by Doris Day, easy walk to the beach, super dog friendly, nice complimentary breakfast spread, great shopping and restaurants nearby...BUT not sure I would stay there again. We stayed on the Tower Suite (room 220) it is a two story suite with the bedroom upstairs and living room and bathroom downstairs. While the weather was very nice and cool the bottom floor of our room was unbearably stuffy and hot. The did give us a portable AC (no central air) but it did little to keep the room cool, and it was extremely loud...which meant we had to turn up the TV, which then could be heard from the hall (because the TV was right next to the door). We felt bad about this so ended up turning it down and using closed captions instead. The bathroom was a good size with a skylight that provided great natural light, but it also seem to act like a magnifying glass, when the sun was out the bathroom was a good 10 degrees hotter than the already hot living room and it never cooled down. It was almost unbearable to get ready in there. The bedroom upstairs was nice, but small, it had windows on three walls and is the tallest point of the hotel. The bedroom temp was cool because you could open all of the windows and get a nice breeze, the only problem with that was that some of the windows were right over the outside area of the attached restaurant (Terry's) so noise from the kitchen and outside area started around 6am. You also have to navigate a winding, narrow staircase... so if you needed to go to the restroom in the middle of the night, it's not ideal, but in fairness they did warn of us the fact that there was no bathroom upstairs when we booked. We got to the hotel a bit earlier than the posted check-in time, but they said we only needed to wait 10 minutes until it was inspected after being cleaned and they would call my cell when it was ready. So we decided to sit in the car and wait to eat lunch until we could get into the room with our stuff and our pup. We ended up waiting over a hour, with no proactive updates from the front desk. No parking lot and no valet, so you have to park on the street and most spots right around the hotel are 2 hour parking...we had to park a few blocks away so that we weren't in a timed spot. They do have a loading zone right in front of the hotel so that you don't have to tote you luggage from blocks away.

Yelp
Phenomenal stay! Fantastic with and without dogs. Service was amazing, hotel staff very pleasant and frequently checks in and is very helpful even with little things like helping with the door or helping carry items. The room was very clean and everything was in working order. The hotel lounge is very cozy and there is live music at the designated times which brings in a good crowd. In the evenings, alot of guests are in the lounge and all very friendly and sociable. The staff and guests were all friendly and sociable and this hotel stay was so fun and comfortable! Our dog had a blast

Yelp
Stopped by for a drink and to experience the historic landmark location. Finding a pet friendly location that has great food and drinks was the best. Will totally be back!

Yelp
The hotel is a little run down, but the friendly and helpful customer services makes all the difference! We enjoyed our stay

Yelp
- the front desk long blond hair women was cold, very cold. - the room is outdated and very noisy. - the mattress is super soft. i had a fantastic experience one decade ago, that's why i brought my husband and dog back to celebrate his birthday, what a mistake!

Yelp
we stayed for poodle day weekend and the inn was wonderful. the amenities are not fancy in the rooms, but the hospitality is incredible. also the housekeeping staff is super! with all the coming and going they did a beautiful job of freshening our room during our stay. the sunday morning brunch music was lovely, the breakfast generous and nicely presented. it has the authentic carmel vibe of elegance that's easy.

Yelp
Cute little inn by Carmel by the Sea, owned and created by Doris Day, super pet friendly. The front desk staff were nice and pretty helpful in giving advice on whats around the town and where to park etc. We were able to check in a couple hours early which was really nice. Barstaff in the evening were quick and well seasoned in pouring their simple cocktails (heavy pours). Rooms were cozy but definitely had seen their fair share of wear and tear. Walls/doors are thin, so we could hear everything going on outside (for our case, 5 kids were running around and screaming early in the morning, banging doors) we were in a good mood and getting ready for breakfast so we didn't mind too much. Would happily return for more stays

Chris H.

Yelp
This stay was truly wonderful, three nights of cozy comfortable hospitality; our home away from home. I'm sure Doris Day meant to have her guests here feel that level of peace at her hotel. So dog friendly, an amazing array of dogs & owners. Our room is small but perfect but in every way, so many small touches that make it extra special. We've traveled the world but this is one of our favorites. We spend mega time in the 'living room' enjoying the fireplace and their amazing cocktails as well as the wonderful conversation with others staying here. Just lovely, we are regulars and highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to immerse yourselves in this gorgeous seaside area of CA. It is unmatched. Only downside, and this has nothing to do with the hotel, was the people all set up, working in the hotel outside their rooms, work/conferencing at full tilt, like it's their private office, with their laptops, talking LOUD for hours on the patio upstairs outside our room and also downstairs in the living room by the fireplace ALL morning. BEYOND RUDE to other guests on vacation relaxing in these areas. No one wants to hear that #%*# nonstop, IMO it should not be allowed. Other than a few obnoxious humans, a perfect four day stay.

Eileen B.

Yelp
Although the building is beautiful, the rooms are tiny and very loud. I heard every conversation in the hallway and every bottle being thrown out and conversation outside of my closed window. Given the high price, we were very disappointed and would not return.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Perfect location to restaurants, shopping, 5 minute walk to the beach. Easy parking options. Nice breakfast included- fruit, potatoes, baked goods, etc. Outdoor lounge and seating, full bar.

Diana C.

Yelp
I would rate this a 3.5, but I'll round up. Pricey, but if you want someplace clean to stay in this area, it's average. The room was very small, so be warned! But it was clean and had nice toiletries and is dog friendly. The bed is so soft and thin, so it wasn't great in that aspect. They have free breakfast and a singer that comes into the lounge, which was enjoyable but loud, so it depends on how you feel about it. Ask where your room is because there are some rooms in awkward places (i.e., right by the outside seating of the attached restaurant . The walls are thin, so noise is prevalent. I wished this place was more themed, but overall, it was a nice stay. The service was nice, the staff was very friendly, which was great. My husband would rate it a 4.

Colin H.

Yelp
I paid for one of their large suites last December for a 2-night reservation this September. Days before the reservation we came down with COVID. I called them 4 days ahead of time - as soon as I knew we were sick and shouldn't attend - and simply asked to MOVE my reservation to the future, NOT for a refund at all. The manager Abrin wouldn't budge and said since we were within 7 days of the reservation that they would keep payment for 1 night. These are expensive rooms. Talk about a business with the wrong mindset. Customers remember forever how you treat them. You could have had a repeat guest forever. Instead you prioritized keeping $740.

Yelp
During a recent visit to Carmel, my daughter and I stayed at the Cypress Inn that is a block off of Ocean Avenue. It was within walking distance of all of the places we wanted to visit and the restaurants where we had reservations. The very charming Cypress Inn opened in 1929 and was co-owned by Doris Day. Carmel is a dog friendly town and the Cypress Inn was no exception. I think my daughter and I were some of the very few people staying at the inn without a dog. We had a good time dog watching as there was a great variety of breeds represented. All of the dogs were very well behaved and there was no telltale signs that so many dogs were on-site. The inn has beautiful gardens and potted plants around the property. The inn also has a restaurant and lounge and due to COVID everyone is served in the lovely courtyard. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and provided exemplary customer service. I left my iPhone charger in the room and received a call from an employee asking me if I was still in the area so I could pick it up. In most situations hotels wait for you to call about forgotten items, so I really appreciated the call. The weekend we visited Carmel was packed with people. Finding parking around the hotel was going to be an issue, fortunately the inn has a small lot a half a block away and we gladly paid the $20 a night fee. We were also relieved that we wouldn't have to move the car every two hours as there is a two hour limit on parking in downtown Carmel. We had such a nice stay at the Cypress Inn and we can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Our visit was incredible! The hotel is charming and the staff were professional. The complimentary breakfast was also very good. I saw some reviews complaining about sound. There was an unfortunate mother/daughter duo that got into a huge fight in the middle of the night (possibly drunk) and that was the only disturbing part of our stay. We saw them the next morning making a big fuss about a charge for some room damage and then suddenly remembering their room was broken into. So more drama with a policeman in the lobby. Was peaceful again as soon as they left! I think they both left one star reviews here but I would believe none of it.

K S.

Yelp
This review is about the front desk agent that checked me in, as well as in response to Leigh's review (for the record, Leigh made so many false accusations in both her original review (which was taken down) and her new review it'll be too time consuming to tackle them all, but I'll highlight a few of her blatantly false claims). It should also be noted that Leigh stalked me in the hotel lobby during my stay and sent me the utmost malicious private message on Yelp. I truly believe if it wasn't the hotel staff that stole my belongings that it was my neighbor, Leigh, who committed the crime. It should also be noted that Leigh goes by Judith and Alison on Yelp. Upon checking in, the front desk agent quoted me nearly triple what I was quoted over the phone. I quickly realized she was trying to take advantage of me, but I kept that to myself and simply told her I knew I could get a better rate. The front desk agent had the audacity to say "I know you're looking for a deal so let me see what I can do." I wasn't looking for a deal, rather respect and the price I was quoted over the phone. My card was in plain sight and ready to be charged, but I didn't say anything because the joke was on the front desk agent who said she was "looking for a deal" when in reality she was trying to get out of attempting to financially take advantage of me. She got me a better deal, but that wasn't my main objective. What I was going for was fair treatment and respect. I checked into my room and left for dinner at a nearby restaurant down the street where I know the owners. I had a lovely time, as always. Shout out to the owners of the restaurant for providing great food, good conversation and excellent customer service. To say I left the restaurant in good spirits would be an understatement. Unfortunately, I couldn't fall asleep when I got back to my hotel room largely due to my noisy neighbors (after reading Leigh's review, I realize she and her sisters were likely the culprits). I was finally able to get a couple hours of sleep, but guess who woke me up? Leigh and her sisters. I overheard them laughing, chatting nonstop and talking about getting wine and drinks. I don't know about you, but I certainly don't drink in the morning. Evidently 8am is 5 o'clock somewhere for Leigh and her sisters. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY STAFF/MANAGEMENT AND IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR NEIGHBORS THROUGH PAPER THIN WALLS, THEN AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!

Yelp
I was a guest, for a third time, at this establishment. It's unfortunate as they allow dogs and the restaurant is lovely. On this visit we left the hotel room locked and came back to the room open. We, the guests, were upset for a matter of minutes, before leaving to our car, so as not to wake others. We returned and requested another room. Wine spilled on one bed and the bedding was stripped by the us. The staff would not assist or help to replace the bedding that evening. Isn't that their job? We have been charged $250 additional. This amount was based on cleaning the sheets and comping guests for noise. In the second room I heard snoring from another room. The walls are paper thin. I did not complain then but will now. The police were called in the morning by management, due to their hotel policy for claims of theft. We were also told, by friends, to file a police report. A win, win there. There was no manager on duty and we had to request he/ she be present. Once he arrived, and verbally flew at us with the charges, the officer escorted him away. Comping guests and washing sheets are part of the hotel business. One of our items was turned in to the police but the other two remain missing. Sheets can be washed and we did our due diligence by paying for another room and stripping the bed in the original room. The manager was highly unprofessional, rude and the front staff curt with her tone. The post from Judith P contains total misinformation. She should have also removed herself from our personal and private business with police involvement.

Yelp
Love your dog?? Sit in the bar or outside courtyard and you will be surrounded by "good dogs" -- Almost as important, the food is surprisingly good. Cozy and warm and feeling welcome, I was delighted with my French 75 and Doris's chicken salad.

Yelp
This is what the carpet looked liked in a King Suite when we checked in. Very disappointed for a $1,897.00 3 night stay. Had front desk come and look but they offered no other room or solution other than making a note that it wasn't our dog that did this.

Yelp
Went for a long weekend getaway with my husband and our pup and had a wonderful stay. The first night we were put in a relatively noisy hallway room and then upgraded to a lovely king room with jacuzzi and fireplace for the last two nights of our stay. I absolutely adore how dog friendly the establishment is. Breakfast was included and was incredible. Location can not be beat. One block away from ocean avenue and a short walk to the beach. We had the best time and will definitely be back!

Yelp
I was so excited to go to Cypress Inn, the Doris Day memorabilia the cute look of the building. But WOW, it started with having to pay an additional $25 to park down the street? On top of the $329/a night? We go to the room, super small, no frills at all inside, very old but not in a good way. Windows have a gap, heater did not work well and it was a cool evening, 1 ply toilet paper, and so loud! Busses started up at 6:45, people out in the hallways by 7am talking at full volume. Bed just not that comfy. This will be a one and done visit. We did eat at Terry's and it was pretty good. The people that work there are very nice, but as a whole, the Inn needs a bit of upgrading and soundproofing.

Yelp
This little inn is so cute! Wanting to bring our dogs on vacation with us, we made reservations to stay here. It's location is a short walk to the beach and to town. I also liked that it was so pet friendly. When we got here, it was the early evening and their Christmas lights were on. The lights on the inn and their Christmas tree were just beautiful. I loved how everyone was sitting by the tree with their dogs in the lounge. It was so charming! Rooms were tiny but very cute. Thank goodness we got a suite because there was just enough room for the entire family (3 people plus our 2 sweet dogs). The fireplace and the small balcony were nice. The only problem with the room was that we were shut out from turning up the heat on a very cold night. We had to have a staff member bring up a room heater in the middle of the night. Another downside was noise. It was coming from the kitchen, the sidewalk right outside our hotel, and even a power tool from another room during the night. Sleeping was a bit of a challenge here. Although this hotel is cute, we also found our neighbor's dirty mattress and headboard set out in front of our room when we left our room to go to lunch. I'm not exactly sure what was wrong with it, but the dirty black spots on the bottom were very concerning. I think this hotel is just beautiful, but there is definitely room for some improvement. We couldn't have asked for a more pet friendly hotel or a cuter inn at Christmas. I even thought the hotel's restaurant was wonderful here as well. We had a nice stay, but I was pretty sleep deprived during our visit here. This inn is especially cute during the holidays and very dog friendly. With some small changes, Cypress Inn could be really great!

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere and service. This hotel is owned by the famous actress Doris Day and her son. Doris Day loves animals so this place is dog friendly. You'll see art work and pictures of their pets on the wall. The restaurant was great. They also had a fun piano player. The burger is delicious. I'll definitely be back with my dog next time

Yelp
We just had dinner at the restaurant. The food was good, but they insisted on seating us at a tiny table in a walkway next to the bar. It was incredibly noisy, and got louder as the bar flies next to us poured down drinks. There were four large dogs within 10 feet of us (they must advertise as the dog bar of Carmel), and a lot of hotel traffic brushing by our table as we tried to eat. Bottom line, they put us at this terrible table while at least half of the normal tables in the restaurant were empty the entire time we were there.
