Arrival is awesome. You get to deplane directly on the tarmac - which is factually the best way to get off a plane. When you walk in, there is rum everywhere and the bag belts are right there in front of you. Leaving is crazy. The lines for customs can get huge. And they just wrap around willy nilly. They seem perpetually understaffed and there is no climate control. At least they warn you about it when you arrive. Once you do eventually get through customs and TSA, the terminal is...cozy. All 8 gates are in one big room. There is one set of dirty bathrooms and no water fill station at all.

The arrival experience was pleasant, enhanced by live music performed by some young musicians. However, the departure was quite crowded, lacking air conditioning and seating. Fortunately, we arrived just in time to secure a seat, as some other passengers were departing for their flights, and it happened to be near a fan.

Cyril E. King Airport (STX) is a decent airport for those visiting St. Thomas. The locals greet people and are very kind and welcoming. While it may not be the most modern or spacious airport you've ever experienced, it serves its purpose well. The check-in process is usually smooth, and the security lines are manageable, even during peak travel times. The airport offers a limited selection of shops and restaurants, but you can find the essentials like snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. The baggage claim area is well-organized, and the rental car companies are conveniently located. Overall, Cyril E. King Airport is a functional and efficient airport that provides a good starting point for your St. Thomas adventure. It may not be the most luxurious or exciting airport, but it gets the job done.

Google
Arrival is awesome because your on the first part of your vacation or journey ... Coming home . Horrible . DO NOT take Cape air if you can avoid it. Rudest attendants with little to no respect for their paying customers. . Supposedly they only honor America airlines. Overcharged us for all our checked baggage. The best part is that we were the first people here , maybe she missed her morning coffee but this lady was having a foul moment ... Leaving St Thomas they definitely take every last penny including CAB rides . I have to say I will think twice next time.coming to St Thomas and pick a different Caribeaan island next time.. flying is a big part of your trip be it vacation or business, thanks Cape Air for ruining that . Hopefully our next leg is better..Airline industry is definitely going downhill . Good bye won't be back

Google
Okay so this review seems low, but I travel a lot. Airports are never comfortable and this one seems to try. Couple of portable fans setup around because there doesn't seem to be AC. Lots of food choices considering how small the airport is. I did not enjoy customs, I get that the employees have to deal with hundreds and thousands of people, but their demeanor and attitude was gruff and uninviting, kind of feels like punishment for leaving St Thomas. Food and everything else is expensive, but by now you are used to the costs around here. All plane boarding is stairs at the airplane, so nothing like getting a little sweaty before settling in for a flight. Be aware of what you're flying into, this isn't the states and this is a small airport. Make the best of what you can

Kyle Barton

Google
There is no air conditioning, no where to sit. Be prepared for a very hot and sticky experience. We were told to arrive 3 hours early to get through customs only to sit in the lobby for 3+ hours.

Google
This airport has Been pretty good. Lots of vendors for making wait bearable. Food here is More ok than some.

Mark Sen Gupta

Google
I've flown through third world airports better run and more comfortable than this. People were experiencing heat exhaustion waiting in security because the air conditioning wasn't running. The customs and TSA lines were SO SLOW it took almost 2 hours to got through them. (Global Entry allows you to skip most of the lines.) Food is really pricey (but good) even for airport food (it is expensive on the island already). The seating area is inadequate for the volume.
google avatar

Jackie S.

Yelp
St Thomas Airport- Global entry is a MUST when you're going back to the states. Ideally don't check any bags because you'll be waiting forever. TSA staff are very friendly. Gated area is 1/5 for cleanliness, bathrooms missing TP, no active cleaning staff, not totally surprising... With our rental car drop off, with global entry, carry ons only, we made it through in 35 mins passing a ton of people. Bring your global entry ID!!!! They'll check it to put you in the short lines. I didn't have mine, but my husband did have the global ID and our passports- that was enough for them. Plenty of places to get food inside, just grab seats before the place gets packed. ((4 stars for the staff and the quick TSA)) They do say to arrive 3 hours early so do what you please with the above info. Oh, and if you're checking a bag, it might get totally soaked if it's raining while your luggage is being toted around. Everything at this airport is outside minus TSA and the gate area. We are departing on a Monday and the inside area is completely packed within an hour of us getting to the gate. Arriving to St. Thomas airport isn't too bad, you get off directly on the tarmac, stairs only, so be aware of that as well. Walk around the side of the building to the baggage claim before you leave, get your bags, a car, or a taxi. Plenty of taxis are waiting but the price for 1 way to your hotel is the same as a 3 day car rental. If you're cool with driving on the opposite side of the winding, unmarked roads- get a rental. Just be careful. Rental cars are always overbooked, we had to wait 45 mins for our car. Some people were waiting 1-2 hours or were told to come back the next day.

Yelp
For the amount of people that travels in and out of this airport, it is considerably tiny. At arrival, it's difficult to ascertain the size as you don't actually get to go in the airport aside from when you're getting your luggage where everything is chaotic with minimal space but it is open to the outside which makes it feel less crowded. No jet bridge so you do have to disembark via a set of stairs. It's a process especially for going into the plane but they do have 2 going at the same time for departing flights which makes it a little less time consuming. The airport itself is bustling with activities. Upon arrival, there are people playing live music and dancing to greet visitors and welcome them to the island. Great concept but with the confusion and size of the airport, it can add to the chaos as well. We waited for a bit to get our luggage. There was a flight that arrived slightly earlier than ours did which was using the same baggage carousel for our flight so we had to wait a bit until we saw our luggage come out. No clear signage for car rental companies that aren't on-site or where to wait for them but fortunately, people are holding signs out and direction visitors to the offsite car rental vans. On our return, we read and were told that you had to be 3 hours early due to the lines. Yes, can confirm this to be true. There are hundreds of people in line to first go through the luggage check in ordeal, then you go into the line to scan your bags for agriculture things, then you stand in yet another line for customs (yes, everyone has to go through this line), then another line to drop off your checked luggage and finally, another long line for the TSA and the line to the gates/xray scans. After you deal with the lines, you will be greeted with very little room to move in the gates area as streams of people slowly make their way to finding any available seats. We didn't find any so we went to a bar (figured no kids there because they didn't serve food), found a couple of seats to squeeze into (and I mean this in a very literal way), and ordered drinks to basically buy us a place to hang before our flight starts boarding. Of course, after a while, even people with children started bringing them into the place due to the lack of space. While the island was beautiful and our time spent there was fantastic in every possible way, the airport situation is only a hop and a skip away from being a scary nightmare. I hope someday they'll actually explore some options to better and expand the airport.

Yelp
I'm sorry, but you can't "lock" people in a seemingly un-airconditioned waiting room, where they can't bring their own liquids in, and NOT provide a water fountain. Instead you have to spend $6 on a bottle of water or test your luck at the bathroom sink. This seems inhumane and I've never seen this before in my 32 years of flying all over the world. Never have I found an airport that doesn't have a water fountain. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth for this place and the greed of making you buy overpriced water instead of filling up your own water bottle like you can everywhere else. Got through checking a bag and to a seated spot inside security in under 25 minutes on a Monday afternoon.
google avatar

Tessa M.

Yelp
Super cute airport. You will be greated by the friendly staff and free samples of their legendary drinks upon walking into their airport from arrivals. Definitely been up and running for awhile, but it is efficient nonetheless. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. The airport could definitely use a revamp, and I hope it gets one in time because the employee definitely deserves better than the equipment they've been dealt with. Need to declare firearms, or book a last minute rental? Fear not, they got you. for ear Overall pleased with our experience here.
google avatar

Maria A.

Yelp
I think it's ridiculous that they don't have a lounge in there. That's a any decent size and for as many people as go that go through that airport they should have something and so no it's very poorly laid out. It's a hot airport. They don't have any AC in the airport and they don't have enough chairs at the airport.

Logan M.

Yelp
This is by far the worst airport experience I've ever had! All the airport staff was super unfriendly from the TSA agents to the gate staff and I don't blame them! There is no AC in the airport and everything is super crammed. Airport security took three hours to get through and the airport wasn't even that busy. The whole process is super poorly managed. There is no place in the terminal to fill up a water bottle so you have to buy their overpriced bottled water. Keep this in mind when deciding whether or not you want to travel to the USVI.
google avatar

Xenia M.

Yelp
It seems that this airport has done some upgrades recently. It's a small airport, which makes sense because it's a small island. We had to wait a while for Delta staff to begin checking bags in. Once they give you a tag for your bag you have to walk it over to a different section for them to scan the bags. There are a few souvenir shops and places to eat. However I recommend brining your own food because the prices here are astronomical! $50+ for two burgers and fries. Total rip off.
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
Nice little airport! I loved the free shot of Cruzan rum as we entered the airport. The best part of the airport hehe It's a very small airport, but they have exactly what you need if you need it. The first thing I did was grab a local craft beer before we attempted to get a rental car which didn't happen because too many tourists on a small island. Supply and demand is high here. The rental car service here is a mess, but it was a lesson learned for our next trip here. Pro Tip: Book before you get here Also, the taxis here are very expensive and charge per person and per bag so be prepared to pay a lot for a short drive. Another lesson learned. The employees here are very friendly and their customs and tsa are much better than most airports. I'll see you again soon St Thomas :D
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
It's OK, not a lot of good food. The lines don't take a long time and security isn't that bad. The people are always friendly! It's a small airport, so don't expect a lot from it. The bathroom is always being cleaned, so that is good. The location is great, right by car rentals and stuff like that. Overall, 3 Stars
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
Not the worst but not the best! Expect chaos upon arrival and they really aren't kidding when they say arrive three hours prior to departure on busy days. You do get a free shot of rum upon arrival (great) but you also get heat, confusion, crowds, and a confusing taxi system. They will throw you into a taxi with other folks headed to many different places and charges in the VI are always per person. I did not check a bag so we were able to move pretty seamlessly through the arrivals process, which was good since we had a ferry to catch an hour later. We had to circle around the airport for 40 minutes upon arriving near the airport because there was a pothole on the runway. This is VERY common I guess so do not plan for easy, delay-less travel when heading into or out of this part of the Caribbean. There is a few "okay" cafe options and sitting and waiting the two hours for our flight to depart was fine. Have a great trip to the Caribbean but don't expect lovely service and any glamour here at Cyril King.

Nancy R.

Yelp
American airline ticket agent was the worst I've encountered. Jakira needs an attitude adjustment or a different job. Security and customs also awful. Not one friendly face until we got to the coffee shop On the other side. FYI ticket counter doesn't open til 845 We travel extensively and have never encountered such nasty Treatment.
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
This place is a hot mess, literally. The only relief from the heat is when you go though customs it's nice and air conditioned in there. Then you get stuck with a few hundred sweating tourists waiting to get out of the oven onto their Air Conditioned planes. I know they are building a possible new terminal. But do better with A/C and more space with seats available, they give you Rum when you arrive and sweat when you leave
google avatar

Melanie S.

Yelp
On arrival we got off the plane outside and walked inside where we got greeted. There was bathrooms, baggage claim, bar and car rental places. On the way back we were told to arrive 3 hrs early and thought TSA would take forever but maybe because it was a Tuesday we went through TSA without major issues. The airport was pretty small maybe 10 gates or less. There was a store to get water snack and last minute souvenirs. There were also a few places to get food and a bar but I didn't visit any.
google avatar

Tiffany P.

Yelp
This is the worst and unfriendliest airport we have ever travelled through! We'll never be back! I can't believe how we were treated by everyone from TSA to the bar tender. What a terrible experience after spending $1000's in St Thomas. And we are kind and friendly!
google avatar

Londa S.

Yelp
United Airlines arrived early. St Thomas Airport currently under construction pay attention to arrival and departure paths
google avatar

Catherine B.

Yelp
Clean and bright airport -- arrival, bathrooms, and baggage check.Nicely decorated. Friendly welcomes by employees. Quick and seamless baggage claims. And, shuttles waiting to bring travellers to ferry right outside exit doors. No complaints at all. Great start to vacation.
google avatar

Christie B.

Yelp
This is a easy airport to travel through. Get there early before your flight because you will have to go through customs. There is nowhere to refill your water bottle and the water is $3.49 -$7.50 a bottle, ouch! You can check in outside and then just go through customs and then check your bag.

Heidi ..

Yelp
Disorganized. Staff have no work ethic. AA cancelled our flight and told us to come back at 6 in morning But no one even at ticket counters til 715. Second time flew thru STT and flight got cancelled; crews are unhelpful and could care less when passengers get stranded.
google avatar

Michelle O.

Yelp
09/25/23: Landed at this St. Thomas airport as St. John doesn't have an airport. Exit was outside. Wow that heat and humidity was a lot. Couldn't wait to get indoors. Not the largest of airport but very efficient and got the job done. Few food courts and a duty free shop as you waited for luggage. The normal car rental, tours etc. As my group and I were staying at Westin St. John Villa they had their own desk for checking in and shuttle and ferry arrangements to the resort. Process seamless.

Yelp
This review is for arrivals to St. Thomas, disembarking the plane, and navigating the airport. Most of the reviews here describe the departure process (which is generally rated pretty low). Enjoy your travels to the U.S. Virgin Islands! I've been traveling to St. Thomas for quite sometime now and the arrival process overall has generally been very efficient. As of April 2022, please have your mask on when disembarking plane. Remember that the USVI is a territory and has implemented rules that may be different from the states. You will walk down the stairs and primarily be outside, dress appropriately as you'll be outside in 80-85 degree weather. Prior to travel (at least 5-days out), the USVI Department of Tourism requires all travelers to the Territory to use the "USVI Travel Screening Portal" to submit the required COVID-19 vaccine or test results prior to traveling to the Territory. When you are cleared to travel to the USVI, you will receive an email with a green QR Code. You will need to print the QR Code ahead of time and carry it on you, or you will need to have it accessible on your phone for scanning after disembarking the plane. The military reservists will need your photo ID and the QC Code to scan. Head past the nice dancers greeting you towards the baggage claim, this is a great opportunity for you to get a free shot of Cruzan Rum (produced in St. Croix, VI). Once in the baggage claim area, you will receive your luggage relatively quickly compared to the larger airports in the U.S. There's only 2 baggage claim conveyor belts, I generally just head to the area and eventually your luggage will be there. For transportation: If you need car rental the options, then are Avis, Budget, and Hertz, but I try to support local family businesses by scheduling a rental ahead of time. There is also a taxi stand with clear taxi rates posted on a blue and red. I would recommend taking a picture of it.

Yelp
I saw a lot of negative reviews for this airport, and I kind of liked it. But you have to know what to expect, or you could get easily frustrated. For starters, they are on "Island Time." Nothing is very urgent. If you understand this and can calm your OCD brain, you'll be much happier. I'll start with the arrival information. You will be deplaning down some steps and onto the tarmac. I'm not sure how you get off if you're WC bound or can't do stairs, so this is something you'd want to look into if you are. They deplane through both the front and the back of the aircraft so this process is pretty quick. You may want to consider getting a seat on the back of the aircraft on the way there. The other thing is...it's hot. I don't mean a little warm, it is hot. So if you are coming from somewhere cold, dress for the heat. Or plan to change on your lay over or in the tiny airplane bathroom. I suggest taking off any layers before you land. Oh, and the area where you go for your luggage is not air conditioned. It is open to the elements and even hotter than outside. When you deplane, its already gorgeous. Already, you have a beautiful view. You walk in and are greeted by Caribbean dancers and wonderful music. I did not take pics because the locals believe pictures can steal their soul. Then you get a complimentary shot! take it! It's time to relax! There are only 3 luggage claim areas. So be patient. There is a bar right there. Stop and enjoy a drink before getting worried about your luggage! Once your luggage is there, you're good to go! Departing is a bit tricky. Being there 3 hours early is not a suggestion. It is a necessity. Some of the airlines do not get started until 11 or so. And then it's island time. You are standing outside waiting. If you have an early flight you're going to get through all of this much faster! You check your luggage and then YOU take your luggage through customs. Even though it is the US VI, you still go through customs, even if you're American. This is a lengthy process. Then you get into another line and drop off your luggage. If you pack like me, then be prepared to lift that heavy thing onto the conveyer. They don't help you. Then you go through TSA line. I have been told that it's cold in there but the air was not working. That place is crazy busy, and you may not find a seat. Don't worry about sitting by your gate, it won't likely happen. Just pay attention. The line to the bathrooms is really long too. Pull up a chair at the bar and start sipping on your drinks. Just keep in mind the long line to the bathroom.

Sharon M.

Yelp
United Airlines It has no one at any counter ( to assist ) until an hour before departure. The airport is very disorganized and lacks adequate sineage I'd rather swim, then go to that airport again. A perfectly sweet magical visit to the Virgin Islands...destroyed. Fly in on another island
google avatar

Angela F.

Yelp
This is a small airport with just a handful of gates. There were not enough seats as apparently I flew out at a busy time. Note that you have to go through customs as well as the regular TSA security so give yourself plenty of time when leaving. There is a gorgeous view out the windows. There is a convenience store type kiosk, a gift shop, coffee shop and perfume store. Oh I almost forgot... free flavored rum samples on arrival!
google avatar

Lynndel F.

Yelp
It's a fine airport. There was an emergency on our plane they did a fast job to help the guy. They are doing so much building too. It's good that they are trying to keep up with the growth.
google avatar

Jas S.

Yelp
Small airport. There's about 4 areas to eat. Of course it is overpriced. They have an area to buy duty free drinks with some free tastings. You must walk outside in the schorting heat to get into your plane. There is no indoor tunnel. Seems like only Delta and United fly from here.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
One of the most unbearably hot airports I have ever been in. No air conditioning. Tons of people. Certainly makes you eager to get on your air conditioned plane to get out of there!

Maggie H.

Yelp
Small airport, didn't make me lose my sunglasses though so a plus. The TSA lady was handy
google avatar

Susan P.

Yelp
This airport has the absolute worst customer service and the absolute worst process of trying to get you on the plane that I have ever seen in 50 years of travel. There is zero accountability and they demand that you arrive three hours early so you can stand in a huge line with hundreds and hundreds of other people spreading Covid willy-nilly. Entire system is a disaster. The people that work here moving slow motion every last one of them it's like the island disease they just don't care because what are we gonna do about it? Nothing. They basically ruined our entire vacation because the end was so shitty three hours of absolute disaster and then getting bumped off our flight because they were too lazy to get our bags to the plane when we got here two hours before our flight. There are other choices in the islands you should choose something else.

William H.

Yelp
terrible experience. customs a joke. security horrible. Takes 2-3 hours to check bag and clear security. lines a mile long, outside and inside. Sure is bad for tourism.
google avatar

Yelp
There is literally no information about this airport online. Yelp to the rescue! Our flight was delayed 6 hours AFTER we got here for the "required" 3 hour window prior to departure. Not blaming the airport for that. But what would have been really nice is if the airline communicated this information to airport employees as it was happening, and then if the airport employees communicated this information to passengers that ALL restaurants and shops (limited as it was) close at 5 PM, 5 hours until our new departure time. We found out accidentally as we wandered around about an hour after we got here and discovered we had 20 minutes to grab all of the food we would need for the next 5 hours. Props to the Hibiscus Cafe for staying open to serve us past their quitting time, but even then they stopped cooking food and basically only offered chicken tenders and fries. The kitchen staff all walked out as we were still standing in line. The manager worked with the cashier to get all of our airline food vouchers processed but the line took forever and our food was cold before we got out of line. There are not even any gate agents for any airlines here. We would have left and come back, but we had already bought a big bottle from duty free that we couldn't take through security. Departures Info. What they have here--there is a coffee stand that serves coffee and snacks but it closes at 4:30 PM so we missed that window once we saw them pull down the shades covering the shopS There is a duty free shop with a bar--it only has alcohol, but it also closes at 5 PM. There is a small gift shop/sundries shop but it also closes at 5 PM. And there is the Hibiscus Cafe which closes at 5 PM. That's it, folks. The waiting area for all gates is about the size of the end of one of Dulles' terminals (read: not that big for 8 gates). UPDATE: The manager of Hibiscus opened up one of their small stands so all of us passengers would not be completely stranded for hours! As some others have suggested. Bring your own food to the airport if possible, and for sure for a late flight after everything closes. Arrivals info. You de-plane outside so be prepared to go down a flight of steps to get off your plane. The only shop in the tiny baggage claim is a duty free shop selling alcohol. No sundries shop that we saw. Ground transportation. You can't miss the rental car company desks at baggage claim. Taxis can be found at the taxi stand outside and be prepared to share a passenger van with strangers. Expect to spend about $25 per person cash (plus tip) from the airport to your destination.

Yelp
Worst airport in the universe. On Wed, Dec 29 we had a flight leaving at 5:55pm. We arrived before 3pm - 3 hours before takeoff - and we barely made our flight. There are two lines you have to make through: 1) US Customs and Immigration 2) TSA They all DGAF. Give yourself 3.5+ hours. It's so bad that Delta has a separate US Customs and Immigration line that they pay a lot of money for. I found this out after watching Delta customers go straight from the Delta counter to the front of the line. Pay extra for Delta flights from USVI back to the US - it will save you ~1.5 hours.

Jason S.

Yelp
So you have to dump out all of your water to go thru TSA and then there is nowhere where you can get free water. No water fountains no bottle filling stations nothing. You are forced to buy water from them (cheapest is from island grind for 3 dollars). Other than that it's a clean and effective. It's pretty small but does the job. But come on put a water fountain in.

Michael P.

Yelp
No air conditioning in 100 degree weather! Only one deparure area for all flights. Totally overcrowded. The worst airport in the Americas. It gets worse: men's bathroom one stall no door, others no toilet paper and no dand towels. Two of the wash faucets do not work. Unbelievable!
google avatar

Dang N.

Yelp
So I guess I got lucky? Came in and we were the only people in the airport. Got our rental, no issues. Flying out, not a lot of people. Waited 10m to go through customs then went to the bar and bought a recommended rum that was really good.
google avatar

Deanna D.

Yelp
Well, this airport is....interesting. It is small, I mean tiny. You literally get off of the same plane and walk from the tarmac to the terminal. The staff is friendly enough, the food selections are non-existent and the duty-free liquor depot is a joke. They definitely need to focus more on cleanliness and customer service. But, hey, they have TSA pre-check!

Yelp
Concise Review Nice Airport; great chicken tenders ----- Longer Review We visited St. Thomas, USVI, for the first time in 2021, and had a great time. We flew through Atlanta (ATL) to Cyril E. King St. Thomas Airport (STT). Arrivals The airport has one runway, which is quiet much of the day, then busy with inbound flights early afternoon, and then busy with outbound flights later afternoon. There are no jetways, so when you arrive, you descend the mobile staircases, and when you depart you climb the mobile staircases (truly awesome!!). It's nice to be on the tarmac, seeing the planes from the ground level (have your camera ready for some pix (don't dawdle) as you make your way into the terminal. Once inside the terminal it's a short walk to baggage claim, then outside to your van/taxi (we recommend reserving ride in from airport to hotel before you leave - Dohm's Taxi and also Prince - 340-513-7117). or Stay inside for a rental; based on what we heard, there are relatively few rental vehicless, they are pricy. Taxis are all over the island ready to drive you day and night; we recommend just getting taxis/vans. There is a snack bar with a gracious host/bartender; our daughter recommends the under-21 Pina Colada. Departures While the seating area is enclosed, the airline check-ins are not, and the US Customs area is partially enclosed. St. Thomas and the rest of the US Virgin Islands are all part of the United States, so you unfortunately can't / won't get a passport stamp, but you will need to go through TSA, with all your bags... and then you'll hand your checked bags to TSA for scanning... and then proceed to your gate. The snack bar... so nice... there are several flights on all the airlines departing within a short time of one another, so there was a long line for food. They have burgers, chicken tenders, and even some entrees. Most were in line for burgers and tenders. To speed things, the cook in the back was making items and pushing them through the window, and the waitress would call what it was and the next person/people in line would take their turn to say "I want that." If you wanted something else, when it's your turn you tell the waitress what you want and wait a couple minutes and then you have your food. While it was pricy the tenders were incredibly good; we finished them all before our flight. Thank you, STT airport, for welcoming us to and from St. Thomas. ----- ----- -----

Yelp
This airport is relatively small as you would imagine, but it is air conditioned! Praise the Lord!!!

Yelp
be prepared to wait outside at arrival and departure for hours - it is typically very hot. workers are somewhat friendly. customs has been easy for us. airport itself is small and a bit dirty.

Yelp
Very tiny airport but it gets the job done. Food and drinks overpriced similar to any other airport. Staff was friendly enough.

Yelp
It is was it is for a small island airport but it is one of the worst airports I've been to. Hot, packed with people and nowhere to sit. Super expensive and one bathroom. Fine when you arrive but when you're leaving it stinks.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst customer service EVER!!!! This is my third and last time attempting to fly with spirit. My first time going from Orlando to ATL they had no pilot, canceled the flight leaving everyone stuck at the airport with no means or place to stay for the night. Now I'm in VI and have been told 3 stories by the staff and "customer service reps" Spirt does not care about customers and I will not be flying with them again. I will just pay the extra money to delta or AA.

Yelp
I don't want to give anyone a false sense of confidence, but we had no issues quickly getting through the lines at approx 10:30 am on Friday, July 8. Our flight was departing at 2 pm, so we came straight to the airport after checking out of our condo at 10. We were anxious after reading some of the other comments, but it seems we hit a less busy time/day. Closer to noon the gates became busier, but I'm not sure how quickly the lines were moving after we arrived. Keep in mind that even if you are a US citizen, you are still required to go through customs. We returned the rental car (Budget) to the same lot where we picked it up at the airport & returned the keys to the same desk in the baggage claim area. No issues there, but you do have to use stairs going to/from the rental car parking area.

Yelp
The 3 hour recommendation is stupid. It took me less than 15 minutes from start to finish. Then I just had to wait. No good duty free shop. Food options limited. Also my luggage was mistreated.

Yelp
Painful! Old and super small waiting area when departing to get wait at your gate. No A/C and buckets catching water dripping from the ceiling. It's been a year since the hurricane, so no excuses! Only one tiny place to buy sandwiches or salads while you wait at your gate and it is pricey, but the food tasted fresh. Sweating like crazy, I was so glad to get on my plane and get the heck out of that terminal!

Yelp
Our flight is was wonderful. Everything was organized, and everyone was polite. The process of getting through TSA and checking on the way back was horrid. I have never in my life experience such rude people. They TSA employees were not clear when providing direction and were yelling at people the entire time. It was not the way to end a wonderful vacation.

Yelp
This airport looks like the remnant of a Godzilla vs. Mothra fight post hurricanes. Blue tarps cover massive holes in the sides of the building and the roof, the chairs in the waiting area look like Godzilla used them as chew toys, and nothing really works anymore including TSA which is just a hot mess. My recommendation if you are coming in or leaving is to add an hour to the normal three hour "get to the airport early time". The scanners don't work for TSA so the search process is MANUAL for your stuff and you. I bet a lot of you haven't been through that before, we haven't and it was so confusing, so long, and so frustrating, it makes you want to swim to your destination. The restaurant inside is gone, (which isn't a bad thing- they were rancid), so they are trying to sell items off of kiosks that should be dog food for waaayyyyy too much. The duty free shop looks like it was wiped off the face of the planet and the main pillars holding up the structure, are just metal beams wrapped in plastic. The airport is a construction zone, things go boom all around you so it isn't a peaceful wait for your flight. They still are operating a bar here, which you may need to hit up to take the edge off. Keep expectations low, expect people to be rude, don't plan on getting anything here (food, last minute travel items, souvenirs etc.) and you will be ok. This is a solid two stars, one for getting people on the island and then one for getting people off the island again. #St. Thomas #USVI

Yelp
The first time that I flew into this airport was in 2007 and through the years every visit is about the same. A lot is expected from this airport but you can not expect the same standards of comfort and ease as you get from airports that are not located on a small island. They do not have the same resources and are ok with that fact. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection screening line was long but moved quickly. The officer asked all of the usual questions. When did you arrive? Where did you stay? Why were you here? Did you make any purchases during your visit? After customs we flew through security and ended up in our waiting area. This area has a restaurant, quick snack kiosk and a very small open air store. The store sold a limited amount of souvenirs, books and snacks. The intercom was clear and they have plenty of seating.

Yelp
Yeah, I know it's kind of rough to review an airport in the Virgin Islands and think of it as a positive but this one was pretty bad. We've been coming down here for the better part of a dozen years now and I always gave them a free pass after the double hurricanes of 2017 but I can no longer do so. They had a golden opportunity to upgrade the facilities here and did not. It's hot, security and Customs are slow, and once you do clear all of that and are waiting for your flight there isn't any good food or beverage options. You've been warned, make sure you grab a bite to eat before you come here. ProTip, make sure you give yourself at least two hours before your flight.
