D is for Doggy - Daycare & Grooming

I have been using this 22nd location for years and our dogs Jersey and now Lola ( both Frenchies) have always loved it - however i have concerns for the past few months about cleanliness, cots and equipment and on going renovations. I believe there is new management - but i don’t get any clear answers and the cameras do not work any more. So while i will give it a little more time to transfer - i am doing so with caution.

We dropped off our lil guy at 9am for a full bath & groom for the first time at this location and they were done and he was ready to be picked up at 11am! Super punctual and efficient. They asked a ton of questions in advance of the cut and was able to accommodate everything! He looks so happy and handsome. Would def recommend. Our groomer’s name is Ashley. Thank you, Ashley! We’ll be back!

Great grooming service and wonderful staff at D Is for doggy Chelsea. Compared to other New york groomers, they are reasonably priced and you can even save money if you bring your own shampoo and conditioner. Lady at the desk is such a doll and so informative about the dog and communicating everything. I’ll definitely be returning.

We recently returned back to Manhattan after 12 years in Cape May, and found D-is-for-Doggy the optimal place for our 3 Stooges Japanese Chins! Marco & his Team couldn't have been more understanding, gentle & helpful with our Fuzzy Boys!

My dog likes going here. However, I can’t recommend this place if the cameras are important to you. Their cameras have been down for weeks. Before then, they were only on for limited hours. I emailed the management about this and the issue still exists. It’s not that hard to have a camera and live stream in this day in age

I love taking my dog, Sophie, to D is for Doggy on 6th Ave in Chelsea. I have full trust in the staff that they will take care of Sophie and the other dogs she plays with. Going to D is for Doggy is Sophie’s favorite day of the week as she runs the entire block there to get inside. Thank you for all that you do!

We have had our Coco at the 22nd Street D is for Doggy since October of 2021. Coco is a 4 year old rescue Rat Terrier Border Collie. She was in 10 foster homes in the first 12 weeks of life. We adopted her and have had her since she was a young pup. She is very sweet and super smart but overanxious and restless in most new settings. The staff at D is for Doggy have cared for Coco with very individualized attention. Most of the staff has had her both in day care and onboarding experiences. They know her routines. They let her thrive. They are loving to her and spoil her! 🙂 So may folks have been involved. She adores Deasia. But everyone is loving to her. Thank you Sabrina, Destiny and everyone who have loved her. The staff here is top notch. I recommend with no hesitation.

Grooming is good. But their online reservation system is broken. You can select one location and they book another which wastes people’s time. It’s happened to me twice. Along with one other reservation error where they once booked us and had no groomer show up. The smallest amount of attention to their reservation process would make things smoother. That said, I still like the service they offer and think prices are fair (not good but fair).

13 years after posting about having to leave work to pick up my (now long deceased) dog because I observed other dogs humping her on the webcam and the people who answered my calls did nothing, the owner, Motty Gutflais, texted me and offered me $50 to delete the review. I found this attempted bribe offensive and disgusting, and I have reported it to Yelp.

Took Lucy to this location on my visit back to NYC. Staff was amazing, outdoor playground was a huge bonus. Highly recommend.

It's always nerve-wracking to leave our anxious pugs behind when we leave town, but D is for Doggy has always taken excellent care of them, no matter what weird new pills they need to take or eye drops they need twice per day. The team is super responsive, and I can spy on the dogs during the day with their cameras, where I usually see the team doing something extra nice for my dogs. Strongly recommend!

I have a 7 year old Maltipoo and after my previous groomer moved, I was ambivalent to find a new groomer that was going to be as detail-oriented, meticulous and gentle with Lucy. Can say without hesitation the groomer at the 22nd street location gave my dog the best groom possibly ever. That says a lot after paying top dollar for grooming in Manhattan going on 8 years. I'm reluctant to give this business a 5-star review after scheduling was easy, quick and the accommodated to my wacky schedule but this business deserves it and have a new loyal customer with Lucy and me.

D for Doggy23rd Street is fantastic! My dog Nora has been going for 5+ years and loves it. The staff are so sweet and their backyard is a great amenity to have in the city.

We couldn't survive without D is for Doggy. Our dog has separation anxiety so leaving him at home while we both work in-office is out of the question. We have the utmost trust in knowing that Owen spends his day surrounded by loving staff who are keeping an eye out for his and all of the other dogs' wellbeing. We also get cute pictures of him emailed to us ocassionally in the middle of the day which is always a sweet touch. Highly recommend D is for Doggy!

Our pup literally jumps for joy every time she visits. She loves all of the staff, and receives extremely high level care and attention. We deeply appreciate the staff's expertise and proactivity, how well they know and how deeply they care for all the pups.

I have a 2 year old English Cream Retriever named Archie that comes here 3 days a week for daycare, or is boarded here for a night or two when I have to leave town on business. Archie loves coming here, and I can tell he also loves the staff. He has a great time interacting and playing with the other dogs. I feel confident that he is being well cared for, and staying active and engaged throuout the day. I highly recommend this place!!

We've been taking our dog to D is for Doggy in Chelsea for daycare and boarding consistently over the last 12 years. We have nothing but positive things to say about it. All the team members we've gotten to know over the years are so good - they are friendly with us and more importantly, take good care of our dog and the others who are there. In fact our dog loves hanging out with the team there more than he likes being with the other dogs!

Best place to bring your dog in New York City. The staff is absolutely amazing and very knowledgeable about dogs. This location has a sizable backyard for being in the city and the dogs absolutely love it! I will always recommend and/or have my dogs under their care. The staff treats your dogs as family, they're very thorough about keeping the facility clean and smelling nice. I honestly couldn't say more great things about this facility, the staff and the owner. Long overdue review.

I'll update my review if my sentiments change, but it's a pretty bare-bones facility. That said, I'm sure it's not any worse than the average doggy day care establishment. The people here are nice, but I feel like it's a chaotic place to leave your dog for the day, especially given how crowded with dogs it usually is.

We brought our 15-month old pup to D is for Doggy to try out daycare. Previously, we'd been bringing him to work with us or using a walking service here in the city but wanted to get him a bit more stimulation. We did our research beforehand, and this place has some of the best reviews, so we decided to try it out. To start, we had some difficulty with registration. We were sent improper instructions, and they failed to answer the phone a couple of times during normal business hours with a voicemail that isn't setup. Not good... Upon entering for the first time, we were pretty underwhelmed. This place is tiny, drab, and lacks the aesthetic of what a fun doggy daycare facility should look like. The entryway is extremely narrow and intimidating, especially if you're a cautious dog entering a scary new place for the first time. Our pup was promptly placed inside the Small Dog room for a full day of daycare. We nervously left, hoping that everything would be alright. D is for Doggy conveniently offers a Nest webcam to check-in on how your dog is doing. This is where things got really bad. Between 8am when we dropped him off and 9:30am when we checked the webcam, the population of the Small Dog room had swelled from ~8 to well over 20. These conditions (see picture below) are inhumane and borderline NEGLIGENT. Our dog was given no water, no attention, and hardly any room to stand let alone play. When not texting, the lone attendant split their time between cleaning up pee on the floor and breaking up dogs that were playing too rough. Watching this on the webcam ruined our morning and forced us to stop what we were doing and pick him up immediately. If there's someone at D is for Doggy reading this, I sincerely hope you use this review to improve the conditions of your daycare facility because what we saw is pretty shameful.

Got my dog back from boarding with a bit of a limp and vomiting; ended up with hundreds of dollars of vet bills. Oh, and they lost the bag I brought the food in... what did they feed my dog? Who knows

I was referred to D is for Doggy from a neighbor after my extremely horrible experience at AKC Canine retreat (see my other yelp post about how Max got bit and they didnt pay for his vet bill nor refund my membership). Anyways i kept Max home for awhile after that debacle, but when his dog walker got violently ill over the holidays i had to have a backup plan. D is for Doggy treats all the dogs like their own. Maxwell is a rescue and can be nervous in new situations and they handled it wonderfully. He has made new friends and gets to go in their backyard and play throughout the day. It's not fancy or polished but the dogs are happy, and there is a lot of attention and time given to the dogs.

Samson loves going to doggy daycare and on days when we have to work late, this place is a godsend. He always comes home happy and tired after playing all day. We love that we can peek in once in a while on the live cam, and that he can get some fresh air in the outdoor area.

I take my puppy here for day care and grooming. Couldn't say enough of how kind, accommodating and helpful the staff is. Anna the groomer was great and made sure my Westie first cut was perfect.

My pup loves D is for Doggy so much that whenever we walk within a block of it, he starts to go crazy and pulls on the leash to try to go there. He has so much fun playing with the other dogs and loves running around in the back yard, and he comes home every night completely tuckered out. I love that I can watch him on the webcam (although I wish they had one in the backyard too, so that I could see him when they're outside). The space itself feels a little dingy and run-down, but don't be turned off by that. The staff are terrific and keep everything super clean.

I can't say enough good things about D is for Doggy. I live in San Francisco and my 27lbs dog was too big for me to bring on the plane (no way to the cargo) so I asked my vet for a recommendation and they suggested D is for Doggy. Not only is it located 3 blocks from my apartment, but the place is absolutely gorgeous. When you walk in you are greeted with a nice smell, not like other dog care places where it smells terrible once you walk through the door. Theo my dog is very playful, so I loved that there were no cages and the dogs interact all day and sleep together at night. I watched the online video camera for about 2 hours each day and noticed how many regulars there were. I think that was great for theo to see familiar faces to feel more comfortable. As for the staff, they kept the place very clean and all the dogs seemed happy. They do not charge for administering medications or extra walks. Besides, they walk the dogs every 2-3 hours! They even rearrange the rooms daily to give variety for the dogs. Gina the owner personally called me to update me on Theo. She also set up an online album with over 10 pictures of Theo on his stay (look how happy he looks above!) You can tell your dog is in good hands when he is at D is for Doggy. If you go to their website you can learn all about there services and what they charge. They have great explanations for why they do what they do.

This is an update of my review for this store. My second experience improved a lot. The store was very eager to make a customer happy, so I received a credit after I wrote a review about my negative first experience. Since they had a new groomer, I took my dog to this store again, and she did a good job. Unlike my last experience, my dog did not get a red eye or cut.

I just took my goldendoodle here to get his hair cut. I provided a picture and left instructions with someone of what I wanted. When I picked him up he looked nothing like I asked for. They buzzed his body and left his tail and head very long and fluffy. I found out that they gave the photo to the bather and not the groomer for some reason. I will say that the staff was very friendly and accommodating when they realized I wasn't satisfied. Unfortunately the groomer only spoke Spanish and my limited fluency made it difficult to tell her what I wanted. The owner of D is for Doggy contacted me afterwards and apologized for the miscommunication. He offered to put me in contact with a different groomer that he employs who comes highly recommended at no cost. I really appreciated his concern and interest in providing quality services, so I'll definitely be returning to D is for Doggy next time.

ana is the newest groomer at this location and though I was worried to create a new relationship for my 2 dogs who don't love grooming at ALL 00 I can't tell you how adorable they have been looking since she got there! Artie came back this weekend handsome as hell and SO HAPPY!

This place is amazing! The location was perfect and really easy to get to. The people inside were so helpful and patient with all of my questions. I tried out their 3 hour playdate to see how my dog would like socializing with other dogs and decided to leave her for a little longer ($25 flat rate for the rest of the day). I was pleasantly surprised when they were so helpful, despite it being a trial, and actually waived the fee for the rest of the day when I went to pick her up. It was also convenient to use the webcams to see how my dog was doing during the day. I was relieved to see someone always with the dogs. I will definitely be back and refer this business to my friends&family!

After a long research, I decided to take a chance to D is for Doggy for my puppy first grooming. This place is really surprised me, staffs are very friendly and helpful. The groomer is super nice, and my puppy love his new haircut :)

All I need to say is that it's 9pm, we've been home from daycare for about an hour, and my pup is sound asleep next to me not even slightly engaged in this pizza I'm eating! Laura was amazing and sent me photos to keep me updated on my pup and I loved being able to watch him on the webcam. Each and every single one of these people care about your puppy and it shows!!! Worth every penny.

Really everyone? This place packs the pups in like sardines. That can't be healthy or sanitary. If you have a small dog and are considering this place I suggest stopping by on a holiday weekend so you can see what kind of "care" they give here: it's called 20 dogs in a small room. When asked why they keep the so many dogs in one small room, the response "well, I mean, it's a holiday weekend." Really? Maybe since you're a business owner you should expand your business to accommodate your overwhelming inventory of animals. I was appalled. Never again.

Bought a 12 pack to try out. Usually when I would pick my puppy up, he would be in time out and I wasn't really sure why. Seems like a lot of dogs just sit around all day, which it can do for free in your apartment. My dog may have been too hyper for this place.

So these guys accused my bulldog of being a typhoid mary of sorts and I haven't been able to let it down... Let me back track a bit. While things mostly went well here, I felt like there were a few times that the attendants were not incredibly friendly or customer service oriented. One time, my dog had a suspicious mole. And not only did they temporarily ban him because they said he might potentially be contagious (even though the vet said it couldn't be contagious) but they said it had to be removed before he could return! Excuse me? I know this is Chelsea, but requiring elective surgery on our pets for purely aesthetic purposes seems a bit much... I feel like when you are paying this price, part of that should guarantee better customer service. My little guy is super well kept, taken to the vet regularly and lives the life of leisure I wouldn't mind for myself. I felt judged by the people here both for the way I kept my dog (even though he lives like a king) and also for the implication that he was contagious and their refusal to listen to my vet saying that the little mole was in no way contagious. How rude.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I totally would. My husbands grandma passed away the day before Christmas Eve...AND we just moved to New York so we did not have a doggy day care/boading place. Everything was booked for the holidays and we needed to fly out the next day. We called D is for Doggy and they were so overly nice and able to fit Toby in to be boarded. We arrived at D is for Doggy the next day and were greeted by the owner. She immediately remembered our conversation, welcome Toby to play time and offered her condolences. The place was SUPER clean and actually did not smell of dog at all. They have 3 separate rooms as well as a backyard area. The dogs are separated by energy level. There are play structures in each room as well as various beds and couches for the dogs to sleep on. This is a cageless boarding facility so that means that the dogs are supervised 24/7 and able to sleep in rooms vs. cramped boarding cages. They also have webcams so you can check on your pooch whie you are away. When we went to pick up Toby today I don't think he even missed us. You could tell he had so much fun and that they treated him so well! I would definetely take a cab just to take Toby back to this place.

There's a groomer named Henny. She is the one I used when I went back to D is for Doggy few years later and Teddy came out happy and beautiful.

I have only been to D is for Doggy for grooming services and chose them after a horrible experience at another place based on the great Yelp reviews. The first time we went, my puppy's cut was phenomenal. Just the right length, his legs were still fluffy and not cut too close, and he looked like had layers rather than a straight even cut all over. He looked great and I was impressed. The second time, I asked if they could give him the same cut as before. But they don't take pictures so they didn't really know and I ended up just having to ask them to leave an inch all over. This cut was eh...they did exactly what I asked but he didn't have that layered look. Third visit was not good at all. I think they have changed groomers and whoever cut this time did an amateur job. The base of his tail was not trimmed and now it's grown out too long, his head had patches of uneven lengths, and his nails weren't trimmed. I never met any of the groomers or was told their names. The grooming area is not visible from the check in desk. If the groomer who did the first cut is still there, I'll go back and ask for him/her. Otherwise, their grooming is about the same level as other places that you could pay less for. The staff has always been friendly & seems genuinely nice which I appreciate. Update: I never did go back and went to another grooming place.

Our dog (a puppy not too long ago) doesn't warm easily to strangers and hates it if she's ever left alone. We were worried about whether we would ever be able to leave home. Well, she is CRAZY about D is for Doggie, and I get the impression the staff shares the same fondness for her. She has also vastly improved her socialization skill around other dogs. The service is incredible, and the personalized attention is the sort of top-notch business practice you rarely see anymore. You can find day-care and boarding businesses that are less expensive, but you get what you pay for. What I get is complete peace of mind that my little girl is one of the happiest dogs in the world.

I took my Shih Tzu puppy here for his first grooming appointment and Anna did a wonderful job! I was probably more nervous than him but she cut his hair exactly the way I wanted it to be. The staff here are very friendly. We will definitely be back!

One of the Managers (or owner, not really sure) of D is for Doggy contacted me only hours after posting my review. He was sincerely sorry to hear that Sandy had picked up an eye infection during her stay with them. I let him know that we plan on continuing to board Sandy here, but that they should watch closely for dogs that are showing signs of sickness or infections and immediately quarantine them and/or call their owners.

There's a lot of options out there when it comes to doggy daycare...and a lot of them are fine. But for me, when it comes to my dog, fine isn't acceptable. I want to know that the people watching after my dog actually care about dogs...not just took a job at a doggy daycare place. The people at d is for doggy do indeed love dogs...maybe even more than I do (if that's even possible). I can leave my dog there and know he's getting treated just as well as he does when he's at home. They also did a great job grooming him.

My toy terrier Yorkie loves staying here when we go away for a long weekend or just play with his friends for few hours during the weekend. Staff is extremely friendly and majority of them are pet owners. There are always many small dogs here so your pet will never be in the play room by itself. Five stars!

My "Big Tony" is a rescue dog with anxiety but the staff at D is for Doggy treats him wonderfully. Everyone that works there is super friendly and you can see your dog playing via a Drop Cam right from your smartphone. Its so comforting to know that my dog is in such good hands while I am out of town. You can tell they take pride in what they do.

I only used these people for grooming, which i did six weeks before writing this review. When calling for the apt, I was told that there were two groomers - each equally good - one charging $75, the other $85. Asking about dental policy was told that their policy wast that came from free with the groomer, with either groomer. When I got there, I was told, by another person, that the lower groomer had just raised her rates, both at $80. I went along with it. Made an apt. couple of days ago for another visit. This time I was told - by Yet another parson there is only a new groomer, with a higher rate, $90, and that dental cleaning was extra, another $10 - they were running a Special in July, this one said, it was Never there policy to have that as part of the usual grooming fee. I started a ruckus The very first person came out - one Moby, was his name - and offered to do the Whole shebang for just $75, knowing full well that my whole story was true. I told him that I could not be bought of by bait and switch artists. Watch out for this gang. Get a promised deal sent in Email, or faxed before you do nothing with them - or, better, go elsewhere, as their haircutting isn't all that great, and you'll have have to go back before you thought. I am returning to Doggy style. the are expensive, but they are honest about it. And the haircuts are better, with less frequent returns needed. This Review applies to the Chelsea branch one 6th Avenue, between 15 and 16th streets. Somehow it got put over here, with reviews for the branch on 22nd street. it should be relocated by Yelp - thought I would be wary of ANY branch of what is now evidently at least a pretty shady Franchise outfit.

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!! How many other doggy day care centers can boast a 600 square ft outdoor space? ( at the 22nd street space) My dog Scarlett comes back SO HAPPY and the staff are amazing with me and with her!! We have been going there since in opened and it only has gotten better. We also go to the newer one on 15th street when the weather is bad as it doesn't have an outdoor area and is closer to our home. REGARDLESS.. This is not the only day care place we have tried but when we came here, we never considered going anywhere else The Place is spotless, never smells of dog and most of all my dog practically drags me there.. Staff is attendant to the point that if my dog sees one of them on the street she runs to them GREAT place!!! L & D Fusco

I absolutely LOVE this place and so does my little man! Everyone that works there is such an animal lover and my guy is sooooo in love with them!! If you're looking for a place to leave your baby for a bit - this is the only place to know!! Thanks do much for all you do!! Thor got a groom from Henny and it's the best cut he has ever had in his 10 years!! Run, don't walk to book a groom with her!

Great place. Professional staff. Very clean. Live webcam is a plus! Can easily watch your poochie and check in on them. Five stars and two thumbs up!

I have been going there for many years. That said, they don't have voicemail and extremely disorganized and overcrowd the little dog room. Recently I made a grooming appointment which I had to change as I didn't feel well. Of course, I couldn't reach anyone after hours, and had to wait till 9am to change a 1pm appointment. They arbitrarily told me, it would cost me $40. I explained that during this time of covid, they should be happy that I cancelled. But understanding that the groomer needed to keep to her schedule, I offered $20 since they don't post cancellation or change fees. When I came in a few days later, the groomer refused to come out to look at my dog and what I wanted done. Still I went ahead with the appt. As soon as I arrived, they demanded I give them $40. I refused, since there was no posting, and I demanded for them to contact the owner of D is for Doggy. He waived the fee. However when I came to pick my dog up, they told me not to bring my dog in for grooming again.

I have a mini maltese puppy and she got two grooming services in the past two months, and I feel we need to go again soon even though we've just been there two days ago. Girl at the front desk is amazing, very nice and helpful and you can tell she really loves dogs! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because the groomer didn't really follow my instructions and I feel we will need to revisit soon.

This place is incredible. Our 16 month old labradoodle Huxley has been going to D is for Doggy on W22nd street for a year now, despite us having another doggy day care place directly opposite our apartment. The staff are bat 5hit crazy, but in the best possible way. They truly are lovers of dogs, first and foremost - their role as a day care service business for other peoples dogs feels kind of arbitrary. They welcome our little guy with enthusiasm and love at the start of each day and via the magic of nest video cameras, I can observe (stalk) their continued attention throughout the day. I feel safe leaving Hux there and he really enjoys being there. The groomer is also very skillful and listens carefully to instructions.

Anna the groomer is great. She makes sure what i want exactly and executes the cut perfectly. My dog had a horrible cut from Sal (6th avenue store) so I'd recommend going to the 22nd street location for any grooming. Anna is super.

This place is great, every time we leave our tiny miniature dachshund Lucy here for boarding she comes home ready to sleep for days like she had been partying it up the whole time there... although she prefers to be spoiled at home it's clear they give her the attention she needs and that it is a safe, fun, and clean environment. She has never brought home fleas or any communicable diseases. They do require 6 month Bordatella vaccinations for admission as well as the basics on most health certificates. While these are only so effective, that's the best you can do really. Did I mention there is a backyard???

Love them! Happy I had my puppy boarded here. Love the cameras and how I'm able to see my baby whenever I want!
