I've been looking for a spot like this downtown Toronto that's along my usual travel loop, so seeing this place open was exciting! Reminiscent of Demetre's that I've grown up with in Richmond Hill, they've got colourful murals all over the walls, a fun menu with cute names for the extensive amount of options they've got.
I got a waffle with Black Forest ice cream to share, one of the items off the menu. It was a reasonably sized portion, nothing over the top, decently well presented, and I was excited to try this ice cream flavour I haven't encountered before! First impressions were: my fudge sauce is cold, the ice cream is frosty, and I'm skeptical that I'm getting good value for money. I was very disappointed the sauce was cold - that's laziness for a dessert café when this is really a primary component to their products! If they weren't going to warm it up, just give me the Smuckers' bottle. The ice cream being frost was not ideal - I wasn't sure if the flavour was unpopular or if they mixed ice into the ice cream to lower cost, or if something was wrong with the freezer. I liked the flavour of it though, unique! But not completely sold on the overall product.
There were lots to explore on the menu, at a variety of price points. Knowing now that the plate size is smaller than I may imagine, it's actually less off-putting as I can anticipate being able to finish what I order! Not completely convinced by how slow the service was however - couldn't tell if it was a service on the floor issue or a kitchen issue. If I'm in the area and craving dessert I might be back, but it doesn't come off as outstanding. Another chance is warranted, eventually.
