On the Grid : Da Cimino

"The oldest and for most people probably the best pizzeria in Frankfurt. Enjoy a first-class pizza, made in a wood oven according to traditional recipe. The variety of different pizza is astonishing and all other dishes, like pasta and italian specialties are splendid as well. Nothing for a fancy candle light dinner with your feyonce though, but what you'll get is great food for moderate (almost little) money. If you going to visit Bockenheim, Da Cimino is a must!" - made in

Pork chop pasta came with 3 pieces of pork but pork was on the tough side. Cream spinach was decent. Tiramisu was more like cream cake than tiramisu. Only cash is accepted.

After all these years, this place still refuse to accept card payment. When the world is changing, they still prefer CASH only. The food, the people and the drinks are great options for lunch. The crowd are usually locals. Approach the younger one to speak English (speak good English too). The food is awesome…totally no doubt about it!

Affordable price with decent food. Indoor seating is quite a limited space and outdoor seating can accommodate bigger group. A wide range of menu to choose. A local joint where there are always local having their pizza here.

UPDATE 25Sep2024 Still as good! Although slight portion reduce on the food. All pizzas made to order right in front of you. Will always support this place. After 26 years of patronizing! Da Domino serves one of the Best Pasta in the world! Mushroom spanich is superb. And their pizza are all freshly baked on orders infront of u… you couldn't be more fresh on that! Pictures showed are my most fav Seafood pasta and Mushroom Spanich... Enjoy!

The pizza I ordered tasted very very mediocre with big broccolis which I felt was not even cut. Toppings could have been better. Otherwise everything is fine with nice staffs and also it’s self service. Ambiance is okay.

This place serves Napolitano style pizza and it is delicious. First time here. I had the Champions League pizza. They only accept cash. It's a very inexpensive Pizzeria with SO MANY options for pizza and pastas. I'm definitely coming back!

Small authentic pizza spot with some of the best pizza in town. Small space for indoor seating, outside patio when weather permits in the summer. I'm personally not a fan of the pasta dishes and salads, but the pizza is legendary. Extremely fast service and very reasonable price. Their wines are actually pretty decent considering price. Parking is terrible, but this place is worth circling the block for a couple times in search of parking.

Da Cemino is one of the oldest and best-known pizza places in Frankfurt. The pizza is classically baked in a stone oven. The crust is always crispy and the pizza is a real treat. You order your food directly when you enter the restaurant and pay for it straight away. Then you can start looking for a seat or order to go. It should be noted that this is not a restaurant. There are seats inside and outside, but on a first come first served basis. The food is ready relatively quickly and is announced over the loudspeakers. Very good pizza for little money. Only the pasta dishes are not good. A visit is definitely recommended

Yelp
This place is dope. This is a cash-only business so bring some euros and order up. The staff is friendly and it seems to be a genuine family-owned Italian business. For about 10 euros, you can get an excellent meal. I ordered pasta with pink sauce and a beer (little over 10 euros altogether). My friends ordered a white cream pasta & the other ordered a pizza. Everyone's portion was the perfect size. We are visiting from California and if I ever come back to Frankfurt, I'll definitely stop here. Pics to be added later :)

Yelp
Best pizza in Frankfurt Neapolitano style with thin crust. Prossuto topping with parma cheese and cherry tomatoes. Thank you guys

Yelp
This place is very crowded during meal timing.. Seating are limited but once out of the peak periods, it will be alright. Pizzas are excellent. Spaghetti are also good. Portion are good and the price are cheap.. Staff are all very friendly...

Yelp
This place is commonly referred to as the best pizza in Frankfurt. I came in with high expectations, yet still suspicious as to whether a German city could do Italian right. I walked in and immediately felt the fire from the brick oven and the smells of the pizza cooking. It was a great sign and perfect foreshadowing for a delicious meal. I ordered the #10 - pepperoni sausage, onions, red peppers and tomato sauce. The flavors were incredibly balanced - a little sweetness from the tomato sauce and onions mixed with the salty pepperoni. But the star of the show is the thin crust. WOW. It is the perfect texture, bread so thin and perfectly cooked that melts in your mouth. I expected leftovers for the fridge but ended up finishing the whole pizza..oops! It's thin crust makes it crushable for a single hungry person but more ideally shared between 2 people. I see the hype. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I had read so many reviews raving about this pizza place in Frankfurt. My family and I decided to check it out today for dinner. The place was packed with folks either ordering in or getting takeout. We walked in to see a growing line and behind the counter where you place your order, you can see the kitchen where the pizza is being made fresh in front of you. My family & I do not speak German so I initially thought this would be an issue as they just line up the pizzas when they're ready or call out orders in German. The staff was very friendly and pizzas do not take much time before they're ready to pick up. I waited up front and picked up our pizzas. There are a few tables behind the line and a few tables upstairs as well to dine in. We ordered two pizzas which was more than enough for 3 people. Would highly recommend the vegetable pizza (#25). It was filled with bell peppers, spinach, broccoli and eggplant! It had a fresh earthy taste to it. The bread was on the heavy dough-y side instead of light/crispy crust. It was delicious with the red chili peppers they had available near the line to order your food. The classic mozzarella and basil (#30) was delicious as well! Would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Best pizza in Frankfurt. Period. I have gotten pizza from them at least two dozen times over the past 5 years and didn't have a single bad experience. The place is always packed - no matter the day of the week - but lines are moving quickly, so I never had to wait more than 15 minutes max. The staff is very friendly and if my son comes along they always have a lollipop for him. :)

Yelp
Authentinc Italian place, italian chefs, great tasty food and amazing price. I had a sea food Pizza and let me tell you that I have never tasted fresher sea food, the pizza was very delicious. For only 10 Euros, I got to have this amazing pizza and a Sprite with it. I also had only 10 minutes waiting time which is always great. I will definitely visit again!

Yelp
Sadly, this place was a major disappointment. It was our first visit to Frankfurt and first eatery we found when searching online for good pizza, but unfortunately the service here was terrible. First and foremost this sad soul you see in the picture was very rude and childish when simply asked for their wifi password. In the US, he would be known as a POS. He made a remark in German that made himself and 4 other young immature workers laugh out loud. For such a popular and respected local establishment, this place should be ashamed to have such workers. This place only takes cash, and they speak little to no English.

Yelp
I should have ordered the pizza. Instead, I wanted pasta and ordered the Pasta Carbonara. Don't make my mistake. Stick with the pizza, which looked good and was reasonably priced. All everyone says is correct. Don't expect any service. Its take out, with some tables to sit at.

Yelp
I saw some of the other reviews of this restaurant and decided to go. It's a short walk from the Marriott and is worth trying. To start the pizza was some of the bast I've ever had, it had good crust, sauce and wasn't too greasy like some pizzas. I got the basic Käse and Salami as well as the Käse and Peperoni Wurst both being delicious. When you walk in to Pizzeria Da Cimino you go straight up to the counter and order, there are no waiters. It would definitely help if you knew more German( the menu is in German) but that's to be expected, we are in germany. Now for the only downside, the seating. The seating is very limited and we had to wait ~5 minutes for a seat which wasn't bad but it was a little strange standing there with food in your hands. Overall you should definitely try it, just brush up on your German.

Yelp
One of the best pizza I have had, easily compare to those I have had in Italy. Great crust, great flavors. Great choices and just the right amount of toppings to make it a unique piece. Not to mention service was on point, delivers, open late. 5 stars and a must try when in Frankfurt, especially as you are not always associating pizza with Frankfurt and here we are :-) to try a must !!

Yelp
This is my second trip to Cimino and dangggg.... does it not disappoint. Having lived in Norway for the past few years, good pizza was always very hard to come by. So, it is an absolute relief to find good stuff in Frankfurt, and at an affordable cost! While I'm not entirely a fan of the ambiance inside (it's crowded and loud), it fits the place well. It is casual, quick, and just utterly delicious. I stay pretty basic with pizzas because I believe if one has to put more than three toppings on a pizza they are masking the flavors of the crust and sauce, so I just ordered a simple pineapple and pepperoni (sausage) pizza. I covered it in red chili flakes for some heat. Every bite was pure heaven. And only costs around 7 or 8 Euros. I will be back. Over and over and over and over.

Yelp
And a little teaser for the international guests: Da Cimino is a small, crowded and real real real italian pizza 'restaurant' in the very center of Bockenheim, the bohemian quarter of Frankfurt. I don't know, if the staff speaks english, but you can order by numbers - the wide menu is placed at the wall above the order counter. Your pizza or pasta will be made in front of your eyes and after the numbers of your dishes are shout out by a Robby Williams Look-A-Like waiter. You can have your meal in the very unintimate restaurant or kind of outside, in a very unintimate 'garden' You won't be served at place - but the quality of the pizza you'll get there beats everything and is it worth to bear a litte discomfort!

Yelp
This pizza oh my god this pizza. Its great and understandably the queue can be longer than long. I remember the first time I went to this place my mate drove me across town saying this is the best pizza in Frankfurt and I doubted him thinking it cant be that great (mainly because he knew and still knows very little about good food, sorry Al if your reading) but for once in his life he wasn't lying this place was great, I had the rocket and Parma ham pizza and it was great. I still order it to this day and I have been back many times! I even took my girlfriend here early during our dating times as I knew that this pizza would keep her interested. Inside is nice and simple with as many tables as they possibly can fit as well as an outside area for warmer weather. they also have family pictures everywhere and a large quantity of football memorabilia. Like I stated though the queues can be long and you are not always guaranteed a place to sit inside, but I promise you its worth it! I also suggest to get the parma ham and rocket pizza you wont regret it (unless you're veggie then you probs wont enjoy it at all, the pizza is not the place they have veggie options).

Yelp
Good fresh and cheap pizza in Frankfurk. They have a very extended menu with many different kinds of pizza and pasta.I order the salami pizza which was cooked very good the crust was crunchy and the salami was good.If you are by the area try it !!

Yelp
Simply the best pizzeria in Frankfurt. I have been ordering pizzas and pastas here for more than 10 years now and it has always been a pleasure to eat here or to take away. Simple yet genius place! Just love it!

Yelp
Very good, authentic Italian food. I ordered a pizza with mushroom and pepperoni & the lasagna. Delicious! Great and fast service!

Yelp
Best Pizza in Town :-)) Wood Oven Pizza - thin and crusty - not to expensive. Not a real restaurant - more like a take out - only a few tables w/ bar chairs or benches. But the food is worth the journey.
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
I use this restaurant almost exclusively as a take away, if eating in be prepared for an intimate meal of rubbing shoulders with table neighbours and collecting your food yourself. Be aware that your order will be called out from the counter. Da Cimino has the most deserved, unofficial title of The Best in Town so be prepared for crowds, if the crowds spilling from the door put you off walk the extra 20 yards to Mario & Lino, to my mind equally good :)

Yelp
I loved this place and went fairly often while I was living in Frankfurt in 2016. The pizzas are delicious, the food comes out fast (even if there is a line which there often is), the prices are very reasonable, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. You don't get much better than this. If you are looking for a good pizza in Frankfurt, I would recommend Pizzeria Da Cimino to anyone.

Yelp
The pizza really was fantastic - the sauce was a little spicy, which I liked. It is thin crust, but not new york style. A 12 inch pepperoni pizza was ready is about 6 minutes and it cost me 6.8 euros for that fantastic pizza AND a beer. If you're looking for ambience, go someplace else. If you're looking for great pizza, made by the same guys for the last 20 years, go here. When I was there, the wood was delivered for their wood-burning pizza oven. It is the real deal.
google avatar

Rob D.

Yelp
Thin crust pizza out of an old wood fired oven, can't go wrong. They also have a long list of pasta dishes. The few that I saw looked very good.

Alex J.

Yelp
I tried it today with friends and was very disappointed. Truly overrated. The caprese pizza was undercooked and two of us got stomachaches. The second pizza was OK but nothing special.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was GREAT! The reason for the 5 stars is because of the tentativeness of the manager who served us. The me u is in French and they do not have a English version of it however our server (who I believe is a manager) went through the menu with us. That was very appreciative although his English wasn't he greatest but his attempt to help us understand it far exceeded my expectations. The place is a popular place for the locals in the neighborhood but luckily there was a table ready for us. We had the white pizza and pepperoni pizza for our entrees and a the Nutella cremé brûlée for dessert. I recommend the both. The pizza came out freshly done within 10 minutes. The manager kept checking to make sure we were okay and also gave us lemonchello shots on the house! Our bill for 2 pizzas, Coca Cola, beer, dessert and cappuccino was around 40 Euro's. I'd definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Living just around the corner of Da Cimino is a good excuse to gave a pizza more often than once per month... usually I take 33a or with prosciutto crudo. Fair prices. Fair service. The place is packed almost at all times, but I always find a place to sit there. Not good for big groups though. You can order for take away, might get the pizza faster than for in. Remember to clean the table after your meal, kind of self service there :)
google avatar

Keith W.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza by this american's standards! I ordered the pepperoni pizza to go and it was ready in about 5 minutes and only cost 8,00€. The flavor and crust were awesome and it's got a nice wood burnt crust thin style. The place was pretty crowded so plan on waiting in a confined space, seating is also limited.
google avatar

Lila K.

Yelp
Best take-out Pizza place in Frankfurt! I used to live down the street from here and Da Cimino was always my go-to pizza place. Me and my friends describe it as the best "dirty pizza" as it's probably not the healthiest thing in the world, but it's really tasty, cheap, and the staff is friendly. The dough is nice and thin, plus tastes great. There's something about the cheese they use that i love, because there's not too much, so it's not thick and stringy, and it's a got a salty taste to it. I wouldn't recommend getting a pizza with too many toppings, otherwise the thin crust gets too gooey from it and compromises the structural integrity if you want to hold the pizza in your hand. But if you like to knife and fork it like most Germans, be my guest.
google avatar

Marco B.

Yelp
The pizza of Cimino, considered an institution in Frankfurt by the locals, is a true nightmare for the Italian pizza lover. Low quality ingredients, poorly baked, too many toppings, really not even acceptable for take away. Just look at the pics and you will realize how much the pizzas made there are conceived to suit exclusively the uneducated local taste.
google avatar

Alexandra D.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place...Though it's more of a pizza factory than a restaurant to be honest! Every time, I've ever been it's absolutely packed. You choose your pizza from a list of close to 100, and watch as the team makes it from scratch in no more than 10 minutes. The food is delicious and the prices are super reasonable. Do yourself a favour and go there :)
google avatar

Tomos W.

Yelp
Great pizza, freshly made, good reliable backup place for quick meal, probably best to stay away from the pasta

Yelp
By far the best pizza place in Frankfurt. Pretty close to real NYC pizza. Prices are pretty economical and quality great. A must go to place for pizza.

Qype User (Gee_20…)

Yelp
Best pizza in town! their fire wood oven makes amazingly fast and super delicous pizza. Also their pasta is very good. recomendable is a plate of freshly cooked spinach as a side order, yummy. Great also their working hours everyday until 1am. Not as good and even more expensive is the other restaurant by the same owner on Berger Str "rucola".

Victor B.

Yelp
A nice place for pizzas. Foods gets prepared very fast (although there can be many people waiting) and the pizza pasta is very good. A bit disappointing that quality sometimes vary (same past plate can be very good one day and very ordinary the other) and that they don't use better ingredients. Value for money is indeed very good, but sometimes you would like to get the choice to put better ingredients in your dish (for instance real black olives).
google avatar

Atom B.

Yelp
best pizza I've ever had (including home in NYC & also Rome). inexpensive and unpretentious too, though it's popular so don't be surprised if you have to wait for a seat.

Aly H.

Yelp
I think this place is fantastic. The service is extremely fast and you get to see your pizza made right in front of you. The pizza itself is also some of the best I've ever had, and many friends of mine here consider it to be the best in town. I wish I could find pizza like this in the states - costs 5 euro, ready in no joke 5 mins and absolutely delicious.

Qype User (Jay201…)

Yelp
Simply the best pizza in town! It's rather a take away than a restaurant, so don't expect service or a place to have a cozy dinner.
