I really wanted to love Da Mimmo, but it fell just a tad short for me.
1) The location of Da Mimmo is very central and easy to find. The inside of the restaurant is very nice and the has a nice atmosphere.
2) Service was okay. We had reservations toward the end of lunch service and it was very noticeable that they wanted to get us out of there as quickly as possible. The waiters were very nice, but seemed a bit distracted (also probably because of the timing)... after we ordered, the waiter brought us a bag of bread that contained one small slice of bread for both of us. I wasn't mad because I honestly didn't need anymore bread this trip, but it was funny. He said he would bring us some more... and he did, a few minutes before we got or check.
3) Food was good but not spectacular. The pasta was perfectly cooked, but very fatty and very salty. I got the rigatoni "amatriciana" -- which was there take on my favorite pasta dish. The ration was about 1/3 pasta, 2/3 bacon. The fattiness was overwhelming. I also got the rabbit--which was extremely dry and over cooked, but the polenta was the best I've ever had. My sister had a ravioli dish that was very good but was missing just a little something. Her second course was the braised beef. Perfectly tender but lacked flavor.
Overall, it was good, not great. I think that perhaps we just ordered the wrong thing and I would be willing to give it a second shot if I lived close by, but unfortunately, don't have that option.
Overall, I think if you have a few days or more in Bergamo, definitely worth eating here, but if you only have room for one meal, it's going to be a toss up. Reservations are a must.
