20 Epic Places to Ring in the New Year | Condé Nast Traveler

"A quirky counter‑celebration has taken root here, where thousands gather for a film screening and then “cry” into the early hours of the new year—an homage to a scene in Vive l’amour that turns midnight into catharsis." - Elissa Garay

Google
Big park with lots of areas like kids playground, skating, pond, pavilion, restrooms, and a cafe. You can also see many beautiful birds, squirrels, and more. Great place to walk, relax, and hang out with friends or family. With some snacks and nice weather like today, this place is just perfect!

Tita P.

Google
Since the weather was nice today, we decided to visit Nice place to chill and enjoy the weather while people watching There are restrooms around the park too which is nice Saw remnants of autumn leaves - I think this place would be nice to see peak of autumn and spring if ever

Google
many benches to sit and enjoy the scenery and cool breeze. went there at noon around 1-2 pm and no problem at all, even though the sun is strong, the greens and shades make it enjoyable to walk around.

Google
My friend and I went for a small flea market at the station itself. But I know the park is a great place to visit around the area but we did not as it was our last day and the sun is scorching hot that day. But it is a beautiful place in terms of scenery

Google
Really nice at late evening. Dark, yes, but less people and you have more space for yourself. Sit by the big pond, choose the open area (the west side) where you can find 2 wooden benches each lit by a bright lamppost. You'll see trees with the white birds (I don't know what species are they) resting on the branches. While they're resting, other birds are making loud noises, like flock of Donald Ducks speaking to each other.

Sharleen V.

Google
Brilliant park for a nice walk, it has a small pond with turtles.. variety of birds can be seen.. it's a gem in the heart of the city. Can get lost in time..

Google
Daan park provides a variety of amenities that cater to different visitors.A clean and wide playground area. The restrooms were also clean and easy to find.Plus a coffee shop named Louisa coffee is a nice to have a good coffee time I love their cinnamon bun and apple pie.Definitely a worth to visit.

Google
We couldn't help but be disappointed by the temporary closure of the children's playground, which the little one was looking very much forward to, for maintenance/ upgrading works. I don't know how this could've been avoided, though. Otherwise, it would've been five stars for the beautiful setting and unexpectedly close-up encounters with the birds of the ecological pond.

Yelp
What a delightful place! Right in the middle of Da'an. An oasis of greenery, bird life i.e. cranes, egrets (common here in the East), hundreds of different plant life, lingering jasmine fragrance and meditating platforms. Met two delightful Tibetan monks who were visiting Taiwan, who blessed us. Lord knows we need their prayers! This Park is referred to as "The Lungs of Taipei"! Lots of seniors doing tai-chi, mothers and their kids strolling around. Spectacular place.

Yelp
Beautiful park! Kids playground, adult physical fitness areas including skating rink, bikes, and plenty of walking grounds. Came on a morning and saw many locals young and old. Central Park of Taipei!

Yelp
I loved going to this park early in the morning and going to the pond. I saw Night Herons' hunting, Malayan Night Herons, etc. It was nice seeing so many people exercising early in the mornings. Felt safe and it was a nice start to my day! Free, no admission.

Yelp
Daan Forest Park / Da'an District (Taipei) - Park strolling has become a prerequisite for any major city Jamie W and I visit, and Taipei was no exception. Reflecting a brief respite of conscience, it usually occurs after a gluttonous meal on our way to another gluttonous meal. Sure enough, after we finished our egg and salty soybean milk soup at Yong He Soy Milk King, we leisurely walked through this park between cloudbursts of persistent rain. We could see why it was referred to as a forest park because the pathways were lined with trees that blanketed most of the open greenery. Established as recently as 1994 when it was in a state of decay populated with the city's homeless, the 64-acre space has turned into a tranquil oasis interrupted only occasionally by squawking waterfowl of loudly attired jogger. The modern MRT station sits at the edge of the park, so civilization is mere steps away. RELATED - Exploring Taiwan? Here's my collection of places l've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/3YNkL5j

Yelp
Da'an Park is apparently one of the largest parks in Taipei City (like Central Park in NYC). There's plenty of shade, trees, and benches where you can just sit and admire the view. I went on a weekday, so it wasn't packed, but not sure if it gets packed weekends. It's definitely a nice park to check out and stroll around in evenings.

Yelp
Think mini version of Central Park in Taipei. I popped out of the beautiful MRT station Daan Park into this fabulous forest-like environment in downtown Taipei. Trees like camphor, cajuput, ficus and maples filled the space. And because I was there just before Christmas, there were several beds of various colored poinsettias. I have never seen them in the outdoors before. As I wandered from the west edge heading east I passed dome green green open spaces, the large roller skating rink, some basketball courts, and then the pond. At the pond I slowed my stroll to watch the fish swim by, the birds land and take off, and even a few artists gathered on one side to paint the pond and its collection of birds in the mid morning sun. Then past the outdoor pavilion, and in and out of more shading trees and past past many bright flower beds. Truly a great space to be outside in and enjoy a different kind of Taipei. Amazing the trees are so mature, the park was only opened in 1994. There are several public toilets available throughout the park if you need one. The park is well shared by joggers, dog walkers, and baby strollers so pay attention not to step in front of them. Grab a milk tea from nearby and enjoy, I did !!

Yelp
Nice park with a children's playground, bamboo forest, water pond, lots of birds in the trees around the pond, and this exercise thing where I saw people doing physical rehabilitation for walking. I saw little turtles and fish in the pond, too. Unfortunately, it was very hot when we went in early May, and my toddler was a little bit miserable in the heat.

Yelp
I love this park! It is huge; there is something for everyone. I like the stationary bikes. As you peddle, water comes out of the spout! The ecological pond has so many different species of birds! It is an amazing sight to see the birds in the trees. There were beautiful water lilies in the pond. The pink and white petals look like they are glowing!

Yelp
The park is a very good size park. A lot different plants and flowers. There are also playgrounds and flat auditorium. I ran the whole perimeter of the park, it's about 1.75 mile. It provides a good morning run by distance with plenty of spacing between the runners, cyclists and pedestrians. Will use again.

Yelp
In A Nutshell: -Da'an Park is a tranquil place to relax & use free Wi-Fi. -Who doesn't love a green space in the middle of a bustling city. -I like the mini ponds which has much life. Overall, this is the perfect place to relax.

Yelp
Da'an Park is simply a nice park. It's got nice greenery, nice water, nice paths, nice nature. It's got it all! If I had a capybara, this is where I'd take it for a walk but alas I have no capybara so that's that.

Yelp
love this park! it's a neighborhood park and definitely good for morning jog or just a stroll through the park!

Yelp
This park is one of the largest parks in Taipei city, and it's one of our favorite go to places for long walks! Super family friendly! Pros - paved paths around the park (you can take multiple routes around the park) - lots of signs so you know where you're going and where the restrooms are - lots of restroom stops and they're pretty clean considering the fact that it's a public park - they have small areas where you can ride a bike that pumps water into a small man made pond - lots of nature and birds around - the park has many kinds of trees that shade your walk - the park has multiple exits which gives it easy access, but it can also cause you to get lost easier! - multiple benches around the park If you're looking for an easy stroll in the park in a bustling city, this is the place to go!

Yelp
Awesome park with everything you'd want - trails for jogging and walking, space to throw frisbees/tai chi/dance, playground, basketball courts, a lake to watch water fowl, trees, greenery...a lovely respite from busy Taipei to exercise and people watch.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful! I suppose Da'an Park is sort of a getaway point for most people. Whether to meditate, tai chi, dance, frisbee, or just walk, everyone seems to come here to get temporarily away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a very large park (by my Southern California standards, where these types of parks are very few and far between unless it's a regional or national park), and the amount of green is absolutely astounding to me (again, by my drought-y Southern California standards). We saw plenty of dogs being walked by their owners, and plenty of wildlife (huge birds!!) sending stinkeyes to any dog or human getting a little too close to them for comfort (I was one of these humans, as I wanted a picture!). The pathways are fairly smooth/consistent; we didn't trip too much from any rocky part of the pathways, and there's a good number of them that are well worn or under maintenance. The park is also large enough where some demonstrations and general education (with stalls) may be put up. There is a large lake on the northern part of the park that seems popular; again, big birds, and lots of them! A walk from the nearby university, you can also get here via MRT.

Yelp
Great place to come for exercise and to clear up your mind

Yelp
Serenity now!! This place is such an unexpected surprise right in the hustle and bustle that is Taipei! We were staying across the street from here so we had easy access and there's also tons of bus stops and the MRT station if you want to come here. It's the Taiwanese version of NYC's Central Park including a roller skating rink, playground, bike paths, walking/running paths and horticulture galore! I really felt like I was transported to a tropical paradise at some points thanks to the beautiful palm tree lined paths. I walked with a hot coffee in my hands and took in the sights and sounds, you really can't ask for more at a park!

Yelp
A large park in the middle of Taipei. We stayed closed to the park and it was very nice to go and stroll around the park. There are play areas for kids along with paths to run on. There is an MRT station as other Yelpers have mentioned, and there is also a coffee shop close to the MRT station. There are plenty of trees to provide a respite from the sun as you walk around the park. Worth a visit if you want to get away from Taipei without leaving the city.
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
Taipei's most prominent public park has its own dedicated MRT station (finally), which in itself is a place worth visiting as it has its own sub-level fountains and is popular with wedding photographers. Da'an Forest Park has a lot of trees, but is really too developed to contain any real patches of "forest". Most of the park's main walkways are paved with concrete; the smaller pathways are either cobblestone or well-worn dirt. Despite its large size, expect a dense crowd during sunny weekends in the winter and spring--when fair weather is rare in Taipei. If you make the mistake of ignoring the signs at the many entrances, do remember that bicycles--including uBikes--are prohibited inside the park in order to protect the safety of the pedestrians on the walkways. Though not strictly enforced, this rule is something that many regular locals will unapologetically remind you of should you violate it.

Yelp
a gorgeous oasis in the city. When the park was being built in 1994 it was controversial because the land was once an eye sore. It was the city's skid row filled with poverty stricken and destitute people. After the park was built the area begin to experience a rebirth with companies moving in and new high priced condo being built. Today some of the city's most expensive real estate surrounds the park-some reportedly as much as 14 million USD. The park itself is about 64 acres and has two ponds with turtles, ducks and geese. In the mornings its filled with elderly doing Tai-chi and on nice days you can find people not only strolling the parks but you'll find people on the benches playing a game of Cheese or Go. It's a great place to picnic if the weather isn't too harsh.... 957th review 12/12/2017

Yelp
I'm giving this place a 4 star because it is conveniently located with a great setup that reminds me of Boston parks. Very lush and people love coming here for picnics and post-dinner strolls. Definitely wish there was a locker system either in the MRT station or in the park to make it more friendly to those who are working out after a day at the office. This happened because a friend of mine was meeting us for a run and couldn't find anywhere to store her bags/belongings. Thankfully someone drove so she could leave her stuff in his car in the parking lot which is located under the park. Overall this park is decent and one of my favorites to visit.

Yelp
After having brunch with friends at a Vegan place nearby, this park seemed like a good idea to get in some greenery from all the city. It's a larger park, so it's nice to feel like there is plenty of place to stroll. And, the landscaping is quite pretty with the pond definitely being my favorite spot in the park. While we were here, there were groups of Boy Scouts practicing for something. So cute! Many people were also there to walk their dogs or have a picnic/ lunch. There were even some kids playing basketball in the blistering heat! Whew! Plenty to do here in this lovely park!

Yelp
Come here a lot with my parents or alone. Enjoy the walk in the park. It's quiet and enjoy the nature for a bit. The fish bond has a lot of cool birds relaxing there. Also, there are always some concerts on weekend nights. Great to hang out and enjoy some music/show. But there r mosquitos in summers...booo

Yelp
Daan Forest Park is one of the biggest park in town of Taipei. I was lucky enough to stay at a hotel right in front of this park. It is beautifully maintained and there are lots of people doing exercise in the morning (but not too crowded at all). The running/walking tracks are in good conditions and it is so pretty to see lots of green while running. There is a MRT station by the park, so it would be an easy access even if you stay in a different area.

Yelp
Da'an Forest Park is my go to park. Located in the center of Taipei city, Da'an is 65 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland that offers a little bit of something for everyone. Some of my fondest memories come from days at the park. It's bordered by Heping road on the south and Xinyi road on the north. It's easily accessible by bus or MRT. To access by metro, take the red line to Da'an Park Station, which exits to the northern edge of the park. Da'an is a perfect place for a jog, some tai chi or simply to go do some people watching.

Yelp
Daan Forest Park is a lush green space in the middle of Taipei City. The park sprawls over 250 square meters and has an MRT station located just beside it. We took the Taipei MRT red line to Daan Forest Park MRT station and left from there. The park is a dynamic space comprised of different landscapes and activity areas. There is a tree-house type of structure on stilts, where kids play. Though I've also seen couples making out here late at night. There is a playground, a basketball court and a man-made lake. This park is a favourite for picnickers on sunny days. There is also a running track encircling the park, so we saw a lot of joggers bouncy around the park. This is a really well-maintained beautiful space. The amphitheater in the middle of the park also hosts musical acts occasionally. Definitely worth visiting! I'd go again.

Yelp
During my time at Taipei, this is one of my most frequent places I go to for my exercise. It is an interesting park with family activities often spotted during the weekends! As it's located in the central of Taipei, you see landscapes around the park, giving you a very nice feeling while walking or jogging, enjoying the scenery while attempting to lose those calories! It's certainly good for my pair of eyes and my stomach which is in need of sliming down in size due to all the good food in the city. As there are not many parks in Central Taipei, it's good to have one just like this to escape for the heavy traffic which may occur from time to time especially during peak hours. Absorbing the fresh air does good for all of us. So it's worth dropping by here to see how much the residents appreciate this park. From time to time, there will be musical performance from bands which attract the crowd and making the park an even more relax place to sing and dance! As a big fan of parks, this gets my vote!
google avatar

Wei C.

Yelp
Da'an park is the Central Park of Taipei, the biggest park in the Taipei city. It is really a good place for jogging and picnic, a little space for people to escape from the seriously polluted air in Taipei city. You can do whatever you want there as long as it is legal. Drinking in the park is ok too. One of the fabulous Taiwanese law is allowing public drinking, people won't give you a bad eye on it. Picnic is also really cool. From time to time in the weekend music festival would take place there! Park is open 24/day and it is really safe inside. There is also a lot of nice cafe around the park in the tiny lane waiting for you to explore! Go grab urself a drink and enjoy the time there!

Evan G.

Yelp
This park not just the touchstone for all Taipei residents but also, and more importantly, the lungs of the city. If you have walked around the city at any length you may have noticed that there isn't a whole lot of greenery; which is what makes this park an essential part of the city. It didn't start out this way, however. Originally, the area that we know as Da-an park was home to thousands of squatters. In the early 1990s however, they were evicted, and the lands were converted to the park that we know today. A couple of key points to keep in mind: 1. You are not allowed to ride your bicycle on park grounds. This may sound silly, but if a police officer catches you, he will cite you with a ticket (even though cops are allowed to drive in the park with their motorbikes, which is fine for some reason). 2. You must dispose of your garbage after you are finished with it. This one might sound like common sense, and yet there are still many who don't get this. The best time to go is during the week. On the weekends, people come out in droves, which makes it particularly inconvenient time to enjoy the outdoors. Overall, if you are in Taipei, Da-an park is a must see.
google avatar

Lillian W.

Yelp
Love this place. Lots of paths to walk around. Plenty of shaded areas for resting. Easy to get to via MRT. There's also a carpark underneath the park, though it's often full on weekends. There are also lots of pokestops in the park too! I'd recommend walking around the whole park as each section is quite unique, with different plants and decorative designs. There are often special exhibitions on, so keep an eye out :)
google avatar

Sergio P.

Yelp
The place for all seasons to sit on the grass, drink, and think for a while, or for working out, if you're into that kind of thing. Perhaps the quietest place in Taipei. Also, the amphitheater hosts late-afternoon jazz or classical music concerts from time to time...
google avatar

Cola V.

Yelp
I spent a couple of hours in Da'an Park. I took my time walking different paths and meditating in certain spots. There are tons of places to sit down, the park is incredibly clean and restrooms throughout. The huge pond in the middle was filled with exotic birds I'd never seen. Old men gathered around barking stories at each other, kids played on the structures, people were singing, exercising and walking their dogs. A busy park, but not crowded. I really enjoyed the peacefulness here.
google avatar

Jay H.

Yelp
A beautiful park rivaling if not better than central park in NYC. The ecological pond in the center has all kinds of wildlife to observe and is quite peaceful. The station entrance is enchanting as well.
